What does it mean to travel somewhere new and not be able to see it? That question led me on a 10-day journey through northern India with Traveleyes, a British tour company that pairs visually impaired (受损的) travelers and sighted travelers.
I was paired with Candie, a blind woman from Seattle. “The whole sights thing doesn’t excite me,” she said. “Tell me what people are doing even if it’s just someone sleeping on the sidewalk — that is more interesting to me than, ‘There’s a tree over here with yellow leaves.’” I looked out of the bus window. Along the roadside were hairdressers who’d hung mirrors on trees, shaving customers on low chairs. I told Candie how cars here drive on the left, and how clearly marked road lines were almost universally ignored.
I was beginning to notice how speaking these details aloud made me more observant. Things I might have otherwise overlooked or skimmed past became more visible to me when I put them into words. In naming them, I also saved them into memory.
We eventually arrived in Ranthambore, one of the best places in India to spot wild tigers. Touring the park in an open-topped bus, we spotted tiger tracks — but no tiger. Admittedly, I was disappointed. Candie wasn’t. Just moving through the wilderness in the open air, she said, holding tight the handlebar, had been exciting enough.
These words reminded me of the difference between how blind and sighted people experience travel: For sighted travelers, it’s more like watching a film as they tend to rely on immediate visual cues to form quick and vivid impressions. For blind ones, the world reveals itself more slowly, through layers of sound, touch and smell. It’s a more immersive (沉浸式的), interpretive process — just like reading a novel, where the story unfolds through detail and imagination. And the book is often better than the film.
24. Why did the author start his journey?
A. To satisfy his curiosity. B. To spend his vacation.
C. To help disabled people. D. To heighten his senses.
25. What appealed to Candie most during the journey?
A. Traffic rules. B. Local customs.
C. Beautiful scenery. D. People’s activities.
26. How did describing details affect the author?
A. It refreshed his memory. B. It boosted his social skills.
C. It sharpened his perception. D. It encouraged him to speak up.
27. What message is conveyed in the text?
A. Don’t judge a book by its cover. B. Every cloud has a silver lining.
C. Actions speak louder than words. D. Slow tasting reveals true flavor.
C
The slang (俚语) term “6-7” became nearly unavoidable for anyone interacting with children and teenagers last year. Originating from a rap song in 2024, it quickly gained steam on TikTok and other social media platforms, turning into a shout in response whenever the numbers 6 or 7 cropped up in casual conversation. It has become so widespread that some schools have even banned its use. Dictionary.com named “6-7” as its Word of the Year for 2025, referring to it as something “empty” while acknowledging its usefulness to young users “due to the connection it creates.”
Slang is more than a linguistic (语言的) feature for people of all ages. Slang use serves as a powerful cultural marker for strengthening belonging. “It tells you who is similar to you, who is different from you, which is something that all language does,” said Ryan Boyd, PhD, a social and personality psychologist at the University of Texas at Dallas. Boyd uses computational methods to measure, study, and understand linguistic patterns and the psychological processes behind them.
Young people are often the key creators and innovators of slang because they use language as a way to define themselves and draw boundaries between their own group and perceived outsiders. Slang is a creative way for them to demonstrate how their social world feels different from that of their parents or other adults. Slang use contributes to self-definition, peer (同龄人) bonding, and even theory of mind — the understanding that others have intentions, desires, beliefs, perceptions, and emotions different from one’s own that affect their actions and behaviors.
Understanding how slang functions in the lives of young people offers psychologists a window into how they connect, express themselves, and manage complex social worlds. For doctors and school psychologists, showing curiosity about the terms their patients use can build trust and create a space where they feel they can be their true selves.
28. Which of the following best describes the slang “6-7”?
A. Useful and logical. B. Regional and shallow.
C. Simple but expressive. D. Popular but meaningless.
29. Why do young people love slang?
A. To avoid serious talks. B. To build social identity.
C. To impress their peers. D. To follow online trends.
30. What does the last paragraph stress about slang?
A. Its role in restoring trust. B. Its function as an analytic tool.
C. Its value for a certain profession. D. Its effect on youth’s mental health.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Rise of Online Expressions B. Slang: A Marker of Age Boundaries
C. ”6-7”: Word of the Year for 2025 D. Psychological Secrets Behind Teen Slang

Low- and no-calorie sweeteners are often seen as a healthy alternative to sugar. Aspartame, saccharin, acesulfame-K, erythritol, xylitol, sorbitol, and tagatose can be found in foods like flavored water, soda, energy drinks, yogurt, and low-calorie desserts. According to a study published in the Neurology, a medical journal of the American Academy, some sweeteners may come with unexpected consequences for long-term brain health.
The study included 12,772 adults from across Brazil. The average age was 52, and participants were followed for an average of eight years. Participants completed questionnaires about diet at the start of the study, detailing what they took over the past year. Researchers divided them into three groups based on the total amount of artificial sweeteners consumed. The lowest group consumed an average of 20 mg/day, and the highest group 191 mg/day. Researchers tested the participants at the start, middle, and end of the study to track their memory, language, and thinking skills over time.
After adjusting for factors such as age, sex, and diseases, researchers found the group who consumed the highest amount of sweeteners showed faster declines in overall thinking and memory skills. They suffered a decline that was 62% faster than those who consumed the lowest amount. This equals roughly 1.6 years of aging. When researchers broke the results down by age, they found that people under 60 who consumed the highest amounts of sweeteners showed faster declines, and they did not find links in people over 60.
“While we found links to cognitive (认知的) decline for middle-aged people,” study author Claudia Suemoto said, “more research is needed to confirm our findings and to investigate if other refined sugar alternatives, such as applesauce, honey, maple syrup or coconut sugar, may be effective alternatives.”
32. What does the author show by listing the foods in paragraph 1?
A. The wide use of sweeteners. B. The impact of sweeteners.
C. The popularity of sugary foods. D. The risk of unhealthy diet.
33. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The purposes of the study. B. The procedures of the study.
C. The analysis of the participants. D. The interpretation of the results.
34. What can we learn about the group consuming the most sweeteners?
A. They appeared much older. B. Their cognition weakened faster.
C. They suffered from more diseases. D. Their memory was less stable after 60.
35. Why is more research needed according to Suemoto?
A. To address aging problems. B. To study people’s eating habits.
C. To explore sugar replacements. D. To confirm the benefits of sugar.

The whole accident began with a simple question: Were we going to be boat people or RV (房车) people? Our family had moved to Alaska and wanted to spend as much time outside in this beautiful, wild land as possible. What we weren’t sure of was whether to invest in a boat or an RV. We decided to try both options by renting first.
We rented a drift (漂流) boat for the upcoming weekend at the local Air Force base where my husband Henry worked. Our two-day trip included tent camping on an island, and the family looked forward to our grand adventure.
My husband is a brilliant man. The military trusted him with a multimillion-dollar aircraft, and only a few could do his job. However, he was not quite as experienced with boats. So, when he rented the boat, he wasn’t as knowledgeable as he wanted to be. He noticed two small holes in the bottom of the boat as the young employee explained everything he needed to know. “Shouldn’t there be plugs for those holes down there?” he asked. “Oh, no. Those are for allowing any water that gets in the boat to flow out. They sit above the water line,” said the man. Henry was doubtful but didn’t question the answer. After all, he was a trained employee. Or at least, we believed so.
Then the day came, and we set out with our two oldest children. Putting on life jackets, we pushed off into the current. Splendid mountains towered over us while an eagle flew high in the clear blue sky. We knew we would make unforgettable memories.
The first part of the river was calm and peaceful. Henry, after watching numerous YouTube videos, rowed (划船) the boat expertly while the rest of us oohed and aahed at the scenery. Pretty soon we came to the first section of rocks and faster water. No problem. We made it through and continued down the river.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
However, it wasn’t long before the boat started filling with water.

I really wanted to volunteer at a national park, but I missed the application deadline, so I ended up helping out at a diving centre instead, though IT might not have been as good as the teaching role i'd been considering at a local school. Then how did I stay in touch with family? I started off writing weekly letters, but they took well over a month to arrive. Later, I met a traveller who was running a blog and IT done on me that that was the way forward. I did call my parents now and again, but the time difference made that difficult. Living abroad means adJusting to all sorts of things. The language, of course, but luckily most locals could speak english, and I knew i'd struggle with the hot food. M: When I was a little boy, I loved the night sky. I remember I looked up at the stars and asked my parents many questions, such as how many there were, how far away there were and whether we could visit them. I was amazed by their beauty and that’s why I became an astronomer. But now, in most big cities, kids can’t see the stars like I did.
W: So, do you have any suggestion to tackle this problem?
M: Yeah, actually there is a method that is inexpensive and has immediate benefits. If we shine lights down at the ground instead of up into the sky and use lower brightness levels, we can preserve the beauty of the night sky.

A 25. D 26. C 27. D

根据第一段“What does it mean to travel somewhere new and not be able to see it? That question led me on a 10-day journey through northern India with Traveleyes, a British tour company that pairs visually impaired (受损的) travelers and sighted travelers.(去一个新地方旅行却无法亲眼见到它,意味着什么?这个问题让我与英国旅游公司Traveleyes展开了一次为期十天的旅程,该公司将视障旅客与正常视力的旅客配对。这次旅程带我走遍了印度北部)”可知,作者开始这段旅程是为了满足他的好奇心。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段““The whole sights thing doesn’t excite me,” she said. “Tell me what people are doing even if it’s just someone sleeping on the sidewalk — that is more interesting to me than, ‘There’s a tree over here with yellow leaves.’”(“我对整个风景之类的东西没什么兴趣,”她说,“告诉我人们在做什么,哪怕只是一个人睡在人行道上——这对我来说比‘这里有一棵叶子发黄的树’更有趣。”)”
根据第三段“I was beginning to notice how speaking these details aloud made me more observant.(我开始注意到,大声说出这些细节让我变得更加敏锐)”可知,描述细节提高了作者的感知力。
根据最后一段“For blind ones, the world reveals itself more slowly, through layers of sound, touch and smell.
D 29. B 30. C 31. D
根据第一段中“It has become so widespread that some schools have even banned its use. Dictionary. com named “6-7” as its Word of the Year for 2025, referring to it as something “empty” while acknowledging its usefulness to young users “due to the connection it creates.” (它已经变得如此普遍,以至于一些学校甚至禁止使用它。Dictionary.com将“6-7”评为2025年度词汇,并称其为“空洞之物”,同时承认其对年轻用户“因其所建立的联系”而具有实用价值。)”可知,该俚语非常流行,被称为“empty (空洞的)”但又承认其对年轻人“useful (有用的)”,因此“6-7”是流行但无实际意义的。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Young people are often the key creators and innovators of slang because they use language as a way to define themselves and draw boundaries between their own group and perceived outsiders. Slang is a creative way for them to demonstrate how their social world feels different from that of their parents or other adults. (年轻人通常是俚语的主要创造者和创新者,因为他们用语言来定义自己,并在自己的群体和 被视作“局外人”的群体之间划清界限。俚语是他们展示自己的社交世界与父母或其他成年人有何不同的一种创造性方式。)”可知,年轻人使用俚语是为了定义自己、划清与外界的界限,即建立社交身份。
【30题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“For doctors and school psychologists, showing curiosity about the terms their patients use can build trust and create a space where they feel they can be their true selves.

What is Creative Chaos?
Many people who work in creative fields often prefer a chaotic or disorderly environment around them while they work on new ideas or projects. The painter Pablo Picasso once said, “An act of art begins as an act of destruction.” ____36____
Creative chaos occurs when established patterns are broken, with the hope of something new arising from the positive chaos by the destruction. ____37____ They often gain fresh and surprising achievements when getting through a creative deadlock.
According to an old saying, one cannot make an omelette (鸡蛋饼) without breaking some eggs. ____38____ One cannot create an exciting new dish without burning several pans and breaking dozens of eggs. People who do well in such an environment are most comfortable at the moment of discovery and beyond. They are less interested in the weeks or months of experimentation that lead up to it. This explains why creative people’s offices are often filled to the ceiling with a mess of papers and materials. ____39____ The excitement of a new discovery matters more.
The practice of creative chaos in the workplace has long been debated. Some employees whose jobs require significant creativity often find themselves in conflict with their bosses. These bosses fail to understand their need for disorder. An artist working alone in a studio or a writer working in an office may be able to work in chaos. ____40____ Maintaining a balance between order and disorder can be challenging for companies that need employees with creative backgrounds.
A. The theory remains to be proved.
B. It can be applied to different situations.
C. For them, order and tidiness come second.
D. But company employees may lack that luxury.
E. This idea goes even further with creative chaos.
F. Creative people see this moment as a breakthrough.
G. It well describes the phenomenon known as creative chaos.
G 37. F 38. E 39. C 40. D
上文“The painter Pablo Picasso once said, “An act of art begins as an act of destruction.” (画家巴勃罗·毕加索曾说过:“艺术行为始于破坏行为。”)”引用毕加索的名言,说明艺术创造始于破坏。下文开始解释“Creative chaos occurs when established patterns are broken, with the hope of something new arising from the positive chaos by the destruction. (创造性混乱发生在既定模式被打破之时,人们期望通过这种破坏性的积极混乱过程催生出新的事物。)”。空格处需要承上启下,G项“It well describes the phenomenon known as creative chaos. (它很好地描述了被称为创造性混乱的现象。)”中的“It”指代毕加索的这句话,与上文一致,同时“the phenomenon known as creative chaos”引出下文对创造性混乱的定义。
上文“Creative chaos occurs when established patterns are broken, with the hope of something new arising from the positive chaos by the destruction. (创造性混乱发生在既定模式被打破之时,人们期望通过这种破坏性的积极混乱过程催生出新的事物。)”说明创造性混乱的含义。下文“They often gain fresh and surprising achievements when getting through a creative deadlock. (他们在突破创意僵局时常常获得新鲜而令人惊喜的成就。)”说明结果。F项“Creative people see this moment as a breakthrough. (有创造力的人把这一刻看作是一个突破。)”中的“this moment”指代上文“something new arising from the positive chaos”,“breakthrough”与下文“fresh and surprising achievements”相呼应。
上文“According to an old saying, one cannot make an omelette (鸡蛋饼) without breaking some eggs. (根据一句老话,不打破几个鸡蛋就做不成鸡蛋饼。)”引用俗语说明创造需要付出代价。下文“One cannot create an exciting new dish without burning several pans and breaking dozens of eggs. (不烧坏几个锅、不打破几十个鸡蛋,就做不出一道令人兴奋的新菜。)”进一步举例说明。E项“This idea goes even further with creative chaos. (这个想法在创造性混乱中更是如此。)”中的“This idea”指代上文的俗语,“goes even further”引出下文更进一步的例子,说明创造性混乱将这一理念推得更远。
【39题详解】
上文“This explains why creative people's offices are often filled to the ceiling with a mess of papers and materials. (这就解释了为什么有创造力的人的办公室常常堆满了纸张和材料。)”说明创意人士办公室的混乱状态。下文“The excitement of a new discovery matters more. (新发现的兴奋感更为重要。)”说明他们更看重什么。C项“For them, order and tidiness come second. (对他们来说,秩序和整洁排在第二位。)”中的“For them”指代上文的creative people,“order and tidiness come second”与上文的“mess”形成对比,同时与下文“The excitement of a new discovery matters more”构成递进关系。
上文“An artist working alone in a studio or a writer working in an office may be able to work in chaos. (一个在工作室独自工作的艺术家或一个在办公室工作的作家可能能够在混乱中工作。)”说明个体创意工作者可以在混乱中工作。下文“Maintaining a balance between order and disorder can be challenging for companies that need employees with creative backgrounds. (对于需要有创意背景的员工的公司来说,在秩序和混乱之间保持平衡是具有挑战性的。)”说明公司层面的挑战。空格处需要转折,D项“But company employees may lack that luxury. (但公司员工可能没有那样的奢侈。)”中的“But”表示转折,“that luxury”指代上文个体工作者能在混乱中工作的自由,与下文公司需要平衡秩序和混乱相衔接。

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
However, it wasn’t long before the boat started filling with water.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We finally made it to the island without further incident.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
However, it wasn’t long before the boat started filling with water. Cold river water rushed in through the two unstopped holes rapidly. Panic swept over us at once. Henry’s face turned pale; he instantly realized the rental clerk had lied. We grabbed every bucket and bottle we brought to scoop water out, yet the water level kept rising. The kids clung tightly to the boat sides, eyes wide with fear. Henry steered hard toward the nearby shore, struggling against the running current. We all bailed water nonstop, praying we wouldn’t sink halfway.
We finally made it to the island without further incident. We dragged the half-submerged boat onto the sandy bank and stuffed the holes with thick towels to stop leaking. After calming the frightened kids, Henry called the rental store to complain about the careless staff. Though our boat adventure turned chaotic, we laughed over the scary experience as we set up our tent that night. Later, our family reached an agreement: we would choose an RV instead of a boat, for we’d learned a valuable lesson from this frightening river accident.
