阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Four Olympic Stadiums with Unexpected Afterlives
Signing on to host the Olympics is a big investment. Most buildings built for the Games are left empty afterward. Here are four locations that have repurposed their Olympics structures for creative uses.
Lake Placid, New York
Most people entering the now remodeled 1980 Olympic Village in Lake Placid are in a lot of trouble. It no longer welcomes athletes but instead houses prisoners. This Olympic Village was built with a prison in mind, as planning a secondary purpose was the only way to get funding from the government.
Los Angeles, California
When the 1932 Olympics were held in Los Angeles, the Grand Olympic Auditorium hosted weightlifting, boxing and wrestling matches. Later it also hosted concerts. The venue was so well known around Hollywood that a documentary was made about it called “18th & Grand.” Today, it is home to a Korean church.
Beijing, China
Half of the National Aquatics Center, built for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, is now Asia’s largest waterpark with 13 waterslides, a lazy river, a wave pool and a spa. The second floor has a hall with 17,000 seats. There’s also a theater, several restaurants and bars and a museum of Olympic history.
Helsinki, Finland
Originally constructed in 1937, the Tennispalatsi was never used for Olympic tennis, but it did host basketball when the Games finally came to Helsinki in 1952. In 1957, the city bought the building. Now, the Tennispalatsi has the Helsinki City Art Museum, a movie theater and several restaurants.
21. What can we learn about the Olympic Village in Lake Placid?
A. It was designed by the government. B. It was originally built to make profits.
C. It was used to house athletes in trouble. D. It was planned as a prison to secure funding.
22. What is the Grand Olympic Auditorium currently used for?
A. A cinema. B. A church. C. A sports venue. D. A concert hall.
23. What do the National Aquatics Center and the Tennispalatsi have in common?
A. They offer water sports experiences. B. They have a museum of modern art.
C. They have been sold to the city government. D. They serve cultural and entertainment purposes.

Before it made me lose my mind, I loved X — the social platform formerly known as Twitter — where I spent some of my happiest time: I developed lasting bonds, laughed a lot and launched a new career.
When I joined Twitter in 2009 I was bored, doing an office job while blogging off hours, desperate to be a writer. Twitter made that happen: I posted my writing, gradually people liked it and eventually some asked me to write for them, for money. It made my professional dreams come true. I also met my best friend on Twitter, where we joked around a lot, like it was a fun break during work hours.
All of this made Twitter addictive. For over a decade, I opened it on waking and only stopped scrolling (滚屏) when I went to sleep. I reasoned it was a work necessity: the place to post my writings, connect with professional contacts, and access ideas and happenings.
Yet not just the pure pleasure. Reading about so many of others’ brilliant careers gave me professional insecurity and frequent FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). The platform gradually grew noisier and more annoying. It was once a happy place, where I would thoughtlessly post any old nonsense; now, it felt uncomfortable and unfriendly.
Eventually, I stopped using my account. It felt like applying first aid to myself. At first, it was hard as life without constant updates felt empty and working from home without any virtual conversations could be really lonely. Now, my mind is far quieter. I am less productive, maybe, but I feel calmer and more functional; it even turns out easier to focus on my tasks without thousands of strangers shouting at me.
Recently, someone messaged me to join her on a fun Twitter-like product. I considered it for a second. Then I realized: I am never going back.
24. How did the author benefit from Twitter?
A. It helped achieve her career goal. B. It made her instantly popular.
C. It released her from heavy work. D. It enabled her to make a living.
25. Why did the author decide to stop using Twitter?
A. It raised posting requirements. B. It became a source of her anxiety.
C. It didn’t guarantee information security. D. It didn’t bring her a sense of achievement.
26. What has happened to the author since she quit her addiction to Twitter?
A. She’s found her inner peace. B. She’s become less lonely.
C. She’s felt life more convenient. D. She’s lost interest in the internet.
27. How does the author sound in the last paragraph?
A. Proud. B. Hopeful. C. Determined. D. Satisfied.
C
While we race into a future where we outsource most of our problem-solving to artificial intelligence, the greatest threat is not super intelligent machinery. It’s mindlessly putting too much trust in Big Tech and not enough trust in the power of our own minds.
A philosophy of artful thinking is a good way to avoid this. To think artfully means to solve problems using not just our brains, but also our hands, eyes, and ears, along with our emotions. This approach taps into the cognitive (认知的) resources that are spread throughout our bodies but often go unused.
Changing how we think is hard work. And it starts with a mindfulness practice. Accessing artful intelligence requires being mindful of how we think with our body, how we use our limbs (四肢), organs, and emotions to make sense of the world. Be mindful of all the different messages your body is sending you as well as the different roles and functions your bodily actions can play. For example, gesturing (做手势) in conversations is not just communicative. These movements often help the speaker to smooth out their thought process and assist in getting the words out.
Today, Big Tech is pushing a message of artificial-intelligence craziness and fear. What makes you stuck in it? It’s seeing the same things wherever you look. Big Tech gives you screens, hoping that your attention will always be attracted by their devices. If you want to find more freedom in this AI-filled world, improve your ability to mindfully shift your attention between different objects or levels of focus. Remember everything is born of a choice.
Artful thinking demands effortful mindfulness to ensure that what we do, what we hope to achieve by using these technological tools, will not weaken our humanity. As Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Mindful living is an art, and each of us has to train to be an artist.”
28. What can we learn about artful thinking?
A. It simplifies problem-solving. B. It focuses on developing our brains.
C. It prevents us from over-relying on AI. D. It helps promote high-tech machinery.
29. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. Benefits of artful intelligence. B. Mind-body awareness in thinking.
C. Significance of being mindful. D. Social interaction through movements.
30. What does the author suggest we do in the AI-filled world?
A. Enhance the flexibility of attention. B. Adapt to the rise of AI.
C. Avoid the interruptions from Big Tech. D. Improve the levels of focus.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Artful Thinking Advances Big Tech B. Too Much Trust in AI Harms Our Minds
C. Physical Actions Better Cognitive Functions D. Mindfulness Keeps Us Human in the Age of AI
D
Some years ago, I was in a diner on a rural Maryland highway and struck up a conversation with the fellow working there. He was in his early 40s, I’d guess. He had been an All-State linebacker on his championship team. He got married right after graduating… Here was a man at middle age, still looking back fondly at his time as a boy. Was it all downhill from these peak experiences of high school?
It turns out he’s not alone in his vivid recollections of young adulthood. Most middle-aged adults, though, men and women, have the similar “memory bump” when they look back on their past. This memory phenomenon is so common and well-established that psychological scientists believe it has biological and cognitive roots.
However, new research is challenging this widely accepted view. A different explanation is that the phenomenon is cultural, reflecting shared expectations about the order and timing of life events. Bohn and Berntsen tested this idea in a clever way, by having children imagine the futures that lay ahead of them. Imagining the future, however, obviously has nothing to do with memories.
The scientists asked a large group of school children aged 10-14 to write their future life stories. They were not instructed about the kinds of events they should include; they were merely told to imagine the life ahead of them.
The results were clear. The majority of events that the children imagined were significant life events concentrated in young adulthood: buying a home, getting married, and so on. Young kids use life blueprint as an outline for what to expect, and when. It gives the future some certainty and structure.
The man I spoke with in the diner was using the same life blueprint as a guide for selecting which of many past events to include in the life story he tells himself, and others passing through.
32. Why does the author mention the man in the diner?
A. To generate a discussion about aging.
B. To show how memory works in society.
C To present a common memory pattern among adults.
D. To explain why experiences in youth are very important.
33. What does the underlined phrase “memory bump” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Loss of memory after childhood. B. Clear memory of early adulthood.
C. Cognitive change of middle-aged adults. D. Ability to remember minor details as a kid.
34. What method did Bohn and Berntsen use to test their idea?
A. They studied adults’ common life events. B. They asked adults to recall childhood events
C. They tracked children’s memories over time. D. They had children write imagined future life.
35. What does the author imply about the man’s life story?
A It tends to be a product of imagination. B. It comes from significant personal events.
C. It reflects cultural expectations about life. D. It has roots in biological memory functions.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Several schools are trying to cut back on the use of slang (俚语). The Harris Academy in Upper Norwood is one school that’s taking action. Students there are banned from using terms such as coz (because) ain’t (isn’t/ aren’t, etc.) and yeah (yes). Signs have been put up with a list of banned words. ____36____
But why? The big problem is that many of these terms are appearing in written work. ____37____ The school explained that they don’t want the children to lose their identity, but to be able to communicate properly with people and be understood. “We are going to teach them the rules. ____38____ But we want them to know that when they are filling in application forms and speaking in a formal situation they should use Standard English,” said a teacher.
So, what’s causing the problem? Firstly, slang is just about everywhere these days: in TV shows, songs, films, etc. And with more and more people using it in conversations with friends and coworkers, it’s becoming more acceptable. ____39____ Texting often involves using abbreviations or phonetic (语音的) forms of words, such as wot (what), dat (that), n (and), and gonna (going to).
____40____ It’s argued that the very nature of English is its flexibility and it’s a ban that would be impossible to achieve as there’s no official language police. The type of language that people use can’t be controlled. “The reason why English is so popular is that it develops and adapts well to fit the way it’s being used,” a language expert explained.
Is the “war” on slang worth fighting?
A. This puts many children at a severe disadvantage.
B. No doubt the strength of English lies in its diversity.
C. The increasing use of social media also has an effect.
D. If they decide not to use these rules with friends, that is fine.
E. A letter has also been sent to parents explaining the decision.
F. The role of schools in developing language skills has raised doubt.
G. However, many see any attempts to control language as pointless.

In 1986 journalist Carlo Petrini launched the Slow Food movement as a protest against the opening of a McDonald’s restaurant at a historic Roman site. That Tuesday started out just like any other summer day. Mom dropped me off with Gram and Gramps before going to work. The morning was already steamy and sticky. My shirt was damp against my back.
For the millionth time I wished Gram and Gramps had air conditioning. But if I complained, Gram would just say, “Nonsense to pay an arm and a leg for something people have survived thousands of years without.”
Gram stood at the sink looking cool while Gramps sat with me at the kitchen table staring at the sports section. “Come on, you two, why don’t you go sit on the porch (门廊) so you can feel a light wind?” said Gram. I jumped up, pulling on Gramps’s arm. I didn’t think he had heard Gram.
“George!” Gram rushed to pull her massive husband to his feet. “Are your hearing aids turned up?” She began digging around in Gramps’s ear like she was changing a radio station. Even though Gram liked to act tough, I saw the way she looked after Gramps, like Mom looked after me.
Once we were settled, Gram got us both ice creams. I laughed as a big drop landed on Gramps’s shirt. Gramps chuckled (咯咯笑), too. “Your mother will be after me for that.”
“You mean my gram,” I corrected. I was used to Gramps thinking I was Mom. Mom told me Gramps had something in his brain that made him forget things, so he needed extra reminding. I know now it’s called Alzheimer (老年痴呆症).
Gram stepped out as we finished our ice creams. “We’re going to take a trip into town to do some shopping,” she announced. “Here, Melanie,” she said, handing me the shopping list. “You’re in charge of the list and telling me what I need.”
Inside the house the phone rang. Gram left her purse with Gramps, instructing him to clean himself up with tissues in it. Then she disappeared into the house, and Gramps began digging in her purse. When he took out Gram’s car key, he smiled.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。
“Why don’t we two go to the store and surprise her?” Gramps said to me.

【原文】W: Hello everyone. I’m talking to Daniel Davis, who is a big fan of horse riding. Daniel, why did you start horse riding?
M: Well, as a small child, I never had much interest in horses, though I wasn’t scared of them. My older sister started horse riding lessons. I used to see the look on her face when she came home really cheerful, so that’s why I decided to try it.
W: Then, do you think horse riding makes you fitter?
M: Actually, I was always pretty fit because I liked walking, but being with horses so much has made me calmer, more willing to wait for things.
W: Do you take part in horse riding competitions?
M: Yeah, I thought they were just for people owning their horses, but you can borrow or even hire one easily enough. I went with a group of friends from the horse riding club. There was so much to do both before and while we were there. I was really tired afterwards.
W: Will you carry on writing when you’re older?
M: I watched the little kids having their lessons at the club and I wonder about teaching, but I’m not sure whether it’s for me. What really attracts me is the idea of training horses, you know, the ones they use for races.
W: Thank you, Daniel.

B. First impression matters greatly.
C. Preparation turns interviews into jobs.
【答案】18. C 19. A 20. C
【解析】
【原文】Graduates, listen up. Your degree helps you get an interview, but getting the job depends on how well you prepare. First, learn about the company. Don’t just look at their website, read their news, find out their problems and think about how your skills can help them. So if they ask why us, your answers should show you really know the company. Second, use the star method to answer questions. That means situation, task, action and result. Don’t just say I work well in teams, say something like once our team was behind schedule. I started daily meetings and we finished early. The more details, the better. Finally, ask good questions. For example, what does success mean in this job? Or how do you help your workers grow? These show your thinking about the future. Remember, an interview is a two way talk. You’re also seeing if the job is right for you. Don’t rely on luck. Prepare well and you’ll do great.

Before it made me lose my mind, I loved X — the social platform formerly known as Twitter — where I spent some of my happiest time: I developed lasting bonds, laughed a lot and launched a new career.
When I joined Twitter in 2009, I was bored, doing an office job while blogging off hours, desperate to be a writer.
A. Proud. B. Hopeful. C. Determined. D. Satisfied.
【答案】24. A 25. B 26. A 27. C

It was once a happy place, where I would thoughtlessly post any old nonsense; now, it felt uncomfortable and unfriendly.(然而,这不仅仅是单纯的乐趣。
根据文章倒数第二段中“Now, my mind is far quieter. I am less productive, maybe, but I feel calmer and more functional; it even turns out easier to focus on my tasks without thousands of strangers shouting at me.(现在,我的内心平静了许多。或许我的效率变低了,但我感觉更镇定、状态也更好了;事实证明,没有成千上万的陌生人对着我叫嚷,我反而更容易专注于自己的任务。)”可知,自从作者戒掉对推特的依赖之后她已找到了内心的平静,故选A项。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Recently, someone messaged me to join her on a fun Twitter-like product. I considered it for a second. Then I realized: I am never going back.(最近,有人给我发消息,邀请我一起参与一款类似推特有趣产品。我犹豫了一下,然后突然意识到:我再也不想参与了。)”可知作者最终意识到她再也不想参与类似推特的有趣产品,由此可见作者在最后一段中的语气是坚定的,故选C项。

【答案】28. C 29. B 30. A 31. D

【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“If you want to find more freedom in this AI-filled world, improve your ability to mindfully shift your attention between different objects or levels of focus.(如果你想在这个充满人工智能的世界中找到更多的自由,提高你自觉地在不同物体或注意力层次之间转移注意力的能力)”可推知,作者建议我们在充满人工智能的世界里增强注意力的灵活性。故选A。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Artful thinking demands effortful mindfulness to ensure that what we do, what we hope to achieve by using these technological tools, will not weaken our humanity. As Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Mindful living is an art, and each of us has to train to be an artist.”(巧妙思考需要努力保持正念,以确保我们所做的,以及我们希望通过使用这些技术工具实现的目标,不会削弱我们的人性。正如一行禅师所说:“正念生活是一门艺术,我们每个人都必须训练成为艺术家。”)”结合全文内容可知,文章主要论述了在人工智能时代,保持正念的重要性,它能让我们保持人性,不被技术所吞噬。D选项“正念让我们在人工智能时代保持人性”最适合作为文章标题。故选D。

C. To present a common memory pattern among adults.
A. It tends to be a product of imagination. B. It comes from significant personal events.
C. It reflects cultural expectations about life. D. It has roots in biological memory functions.
【答案】32 C 33. B 34. D 35. C

Several schools are trying to cut back on the use of slang (俚语). The Harris Academy in Upper Norwood is one school that’s taking action. Students there are banned from using terms such as coz (because), ain’t (isn’t/ aren’t, etc.) and yeah (yes).

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Version 1:
Travel: Exploration or Relaxation?
Travel is a mix of exploration and relaxation. Exploring new places lets us experience different cultures and see amazing things. But relaxation is equally important. Taking time to rest and enjoy peaceful moments can make travel more fun.
My suggestion is to find a balance. Plan some exciting activities but leave time for leisure. Maybe spend a quiet morning or take a peaceful walk. Travel should be about creating meaningful memories, not just ticking off destinations.
So, pack your curiosity and a desire to relax. The magic of travel lies in combining adventure with calm.
Version 2:
Travel: Exploration or Relaxation?
Travel isn’t about picking sides. It’s most fulfilling when blending both. Exploration satiates curiosity, thrusting us into unfamiliar culture and terrain. Yet, relaxation — reveling in a quiet café or basking on a beach — prevents burnout.
My advice? Slow down and unwind. Allow room for serendipitous adventures. Focus on experiences, not just ticking off sites. The allure of travel lies in being wholly present. Whether you’re navigating a bustling market or simply admiring a flaming sunset, do savor each instant. Travel isn’t about a singular purpose — it’s about embracing life’s beauty in each moment.

Even though Gram liked to act tough I saw the way she looked after Gramps, like Mom looked after me.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

【答案】
Why don’t we two go to the store and surprise her?” Gramps said to me. Before I could respond, he was already heading towards the car, key in hand. I hesitated for a moment, but the thought of seeing Gram’s surprised face made me follow him. As we got into the car, I realized that Gramps might not remember how to drive properly. “Are you sure you can drive, Gramps?” I asked nervously. He chuckled and said, “Of course, I can, Melanie. I’ve been driving for years.” But as we pulled out of the driveway, I noticed that he was driving much slower than usual, and he seemed a bit confused about which way to go.
Fortunately, Gram and a police officer showed up just in time. Gram rushed over to the car, looking worried. “George, what are you doing?” she exclaimed. The police officer explained that someone had reported a car driving erratically, and they had tracked it down to us. I explained what had happened, and the officer nodded understandingly. “It’s okay, kids,” he said. “Your grandpa just needs a little help remembering things sometimes.” Gram hugged Gramps tightly, and I could see the relief in her eyes. She thanked the officer and then turned to us, saying, “Let’s all go home and have some lemonade together.” As we walked back to the house, I knew that even though Gramps forgot things sometimes, he would always remember how much we loved him.
