Dotty covered her face sadly. “Your singing is like screaming,” Frank told Carol. Carol ran away angrily. Everyone was upset, and Frank wasn’t happy either. So, he walked to Grandpa’s house. Frank told Grandpa what happened. Just then, Mrs. Peacock walked by, wearing her hat. She asked Grandpa if he liked it. “Well,” Grandpa said, “there are an awful lot of flowers up there. But my favorite is the purple one.” Mrs. Peacock smiled and thanked him. Frank said Grandpa lied. “No, Frank, I told the truth. I do like the purple flower best. I talked about the good things instead of the not-so-good things,” said Grandpa. Later, Mr. Pickles came with some relish (酱料) and asked Grandpa to try some. It was so spicy that even Grandpa’s eyes watered. Mr. Pickles wanted to sell the relish, so he asked Grandpa to be honest. “More… sugar… less… pepper!” Grandpa coughed as he said. Frank was surprised that Mr. Pickles wasn’t angry! Grandpa explained, “He asked me for the truth… and I gave it to him.” “So I shouldn’t give the truth unless someone asks for it?” Frank was confused. “You should always give people the truth,” said Grandpa. “You just have to find the right way.” The next afternoon when Frank saw Carol practicing singing, he said, “You sure can reach those high notes.” Carol smiled at Frank. In Frank’s mind, honesty was still the best policy, but he also knew it was best served with “more sugar and less pepper”! 6. Why did Frank make his schoolmates upset? A. Because he told lies. B. Telling the truth properly. B. Hiding his true feelings. C. Helping people in need. D. Sharing love sincerely. C Research has shown that adults undervalue the influence of random (随机的) acts of kindness. They consider that their actions won’t make too much of a difference. But small acts of kindness have a bigger effect than they think. In 2023, researchers Margaret Echelbarger and Nick Epley published a study in the Journal of Experimental Psychology. It described a study they had run to find out if the same is true for kids. The study was held at a science museum in Chicago. Researchers talked to 101 children who visited the museum. With their parents’ agreement, the kids were offered two free, museum-designed pencils. They could take both pencils home or perform an act of kindness: allowing the researchers to give one of the pencils to a stranger. The kid could point out the person who should get the pencil. Before giving the pencil away, the researchers asked the children how happy they thought the receiver would feel. Would the person be very happy? Or would it seem like no big deal? Many kids found it hard to guess. Some said, “I’d like to give my pencil, but I’m not sure how they will feel.” The receivers were happy to get the pencils. In fact, they were much happier than the givers had predicted. “Like, ‘You could have chosen anyone, but you chose me. I feel I’m luckier than anyone else.’” Echelbarger says. Also, the givers reported that they had a sense of satisfaction after doing a good deed. The study shows that doing good feels good — for both the giver and the receiver. Echelbarger hopes it will encourage children to pass around kindness, even in small ways like saying hello or holding a door. We all like getting such kindness, so we should give it too. 11. What’s adults’ opinion on random kind acts? A. They don’t care about them. B. They expect thanks from them. C. They treasure their influence. D. They consider them unimportant. 12. What did researchers ask the children to do? A. Exchange pencils for gifts from a stranger. B. Give away both pencils to anyone they like. C. Give a pencil to a stranger they chose. D. Keep both pencils and write down feelings. 13. Why were the receivers happier than the kids had predicted? A. Because they offered help to givers. B. Because they felt specially chosen. C. Because they received valuable gifts. D. Because they found their own strengths. 14. How did the children feel after giving away things? A. Cheerful. B. Relaxed. C. Surprised. D. Embarrassed. 15. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To prove that kids undervalue kindness. B. To encourage small acts of kindness. C. To show that random kindness is useless D. To introduce a study about kindness. D Have you heard of the famous ship Titanic? On April 14, 1912, the ship hit an iceberg on its way from Ireland to New York City and sank. The disaster caused the deaths of more than 1,500 people. For decades (a decade = ten years), the ship sat on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. At that time, underwater technology was very limited (受限的), making it impossible for humans to search the dark deep ocean. Even so, lots of ocean experts never gave up the wish to find the wreck (残骸) and learn the hidden facts of the terrible accident. In 1982, two scientists began their difficult search across a 100-square-mile sea area. They first used SAR, a sonar tool to find objects on the seafloor, but found nothing after covering 75% of the area. Later they changed to Argo, a machine with sonar and cameras pulled behind their ship. Following pieces of broken ship from videos, they found the Titanic in 1985, the first discovery after its sinking. One year later, another research group carried out close underwater visits with new technology. They took Alvin, a small submersible, and Jason Jr., a tiny robot fixed to Alvin. The robot could explore narrow, risky spaces that Alvin could not get into safely. Their first two dives failed: Alvin had battery trouble on the first trip, and Jason Jr. nearly got lost on the second. Luckily, the third dive succeeded. Altogether, they finished 12 dives to take plenty of photos and videos. Scientists are trying to visit the Titanic wreck as often as possible before metal-eating bacteria (细菌) cause the wreck to collapse (倒塌). At the same time, these dives led to important developments in science and technology. They proved the abilities of new camera and sonar systems, underwater robots, and submersibles. In addition, scientists also made discoveries about the deep ocean ecosystem. Nowadays, scientists continue to explore the wreck of the Titanic. With each dive, they contribute to the development of research and keep the history of the ship. 16. What made it difficult to find the Titanic wreck for decades? A. True danger of the deep sea area. B. Total unknown location of the wreck. C. Few records of this accident. D. Poor underwater technical conditions. 17. What tools did scientists use in the close visit to Titanic? A. A sonar and a camera. B. A robot and a submersible. C. A camera and a robot. D. A sonar and a submersible. 18. What can we infer from paragraph 4? A. Bacteria helps protect Titanic. B. Titanic wreck destroyed local ecosystem. C. Old technologies were useless. D. Searching for Titanic wreck brings benefits. 19. What does the underlined phrase “contribute to” mean in paragraph 5? A. Care about. B. Help with. C. Get over. D. Take back. 20. How does the writer organize the passage? A. List machines→ introduce special points→ show their good things. B. Tell a story→ compare different sea areas→ draw a simple mind map. C. Ask a question→ give several examples→ offer advice to scientists. D. Show the accident→ describe the search→ find the value of exploration. 第二节 阅读七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 A new trend (风尚) called “Becoming Chinese” is popular among foreigners on social media like TikTok in 2026. From New York to London, many foreigners post videos of their “Chinese-style daily life”. Some even joke that people are living in a “highly Chinese time”. Different from earlier cultural trends, this one is not about Chinese symbols like pandas or the Great Wall. ____21____ More foreigners try Chinese ways of keeping healthy, such as washing feet before sleep and practicing Baduanjin. They think these easy habits help them stay healthy and relaxed in busy lives. Some also love drinking herbal tea and eating goji berries (枸杞) to keep away some illnesses. These simple changes show foreigners understand Chinese culture better. In the past, they only watched Chinese culture online or visited famous places. ____22____ They never want to change their own nationality. They just love and follow simple Chinese living ways. For example, lots of young foreigners carry thermoses (保温杯) and drink warm water every day. ____23____ And these changes are also simple, low-cost and easy to keep. Three reasons explain why this trend becomes hot. The biggest cause is people’s growing need for health and relaxation. First, people around the world are tired of fast life and hope to keep healthy mentally and physically. ____24____ They change foreigners’ outdated (陈旧的) ideas about China. Third, easier visa-free trips let more foreigners visit China. They share their real experiences online, which makes more people interested in Chinese daily life. The changes show that these daily habits are, in themselves, a form of quiet cultural influence. ____25____ And big cultural shows usually cost much money and effort. This trend will help people from different countries understand each other deeper. A. It works better than big cultural shows. B. It focuses on Chinese daily living habits. C. They buy many gifts during their trips in China. D. They say such small habits make them feel comfortable. E. Schools in foreign countries open Chinese culture classes. F. B. Because he said hurtful words. C. Because he was selfish. D. Because he broke school rules. 7. What did Grandpa say about Mrs. Peacock’s hat? A. He said it was ugly. B. He mentioned the nice part. C. He said it was cheap. D. He joked about its colour. 8. Why wasn’t Mr. Pickles angry? A. Because Grandpa gave advice. B. Because Grandpa liked pepper. C. Because Grandpa forgave him. D. Because Grandpa sold the relish. 9. Which word can describe Grandpa best? A. Brave. B. Wise. C. Proud. D. Thankful. 10. What does “more sugar and less pepper” mean to Frank in the last paragraph? A. Telling the truth properly. B. Hiding his true feelings. C. Helping people in need. D. Sharing love sincerely. 【答案】6. B 7. B 8. A 9. B 10. 【10题详解】 根据最后一段“In Frank’s mind, honesty was still the best policy, but he also knew it was best served with ‘more sugar and less pepper’”说明Frank明白了诚实是最好的策略,但要用正确的方式。“sugar”代表甜蜜委婉,“pepper”代表辛辣直接。这句话意味着要用恰当、温和的方式说出真相(Telling the truth properly)。 C Research has shown that adults undervalue the influence of random (随机的) acts of kindness. 【答案】11. D 12. C 13. B 14. A 15. B 【解析】 【导语】本文通过介绍一项针对儿童的随机善举研究,证明小善举会给施予者和接受者都带来超出预期的快乐,旨在鼓励人们多做不经意的小善举。 【11题详解】 根据第一段第二句“They consider that their actions won't make too much of a difference.”可知,成年人认为随机的善举不重要。 【12题详解】 根据第二段最后一句“The kid could point out the person who should get the pencil.”以及中间提到的“give one of the pencils to a stranger”可知,研究人员让孩子选择将一支铅笔送给他们指定的陌生人。 【13题详解】 根据第三段引用接收者的话“You could have chosen anyone, but you chose me.”可知,接收者感到自己被特别选中了,因此比预测的更开心。 【14题详解】 根据第三段最后一句“the givers reported that they had a sense of satisfaction”以及第四段“doing good feels good”可知,孩子们有满足感,对应的感觉是积极的、快乐的。 【15题详解】 文章最后一段提到“Echelbarger hopes it will encourage children to pass around kindness…We all like getting such kindness, so we should give it too.”可知,文章的主要目的是鼓励人们进行小小的善举。 D Have you heard of the famous ship Titanic? 【答案】16. D 17. B 18. D 19. B 20. F.
