Its price. B. Its location. C. Its size. B 12. B 13. W: I think the third flat is the best we’ve seen so far. They’re all quite expensive. Rents seem to be getting higher and higher. But this one is the least expensive and it’s the nearest to the city center. M: But it’s the one with the fewest rooms and the least space. I’m not sure whether it’s got enough space for us, especially with our kids. W: So you prefer the second one in a worse location with higher rent? M: The location isn’t as bad as you think. It’s farther from the center than the other two, but you can get to the train station and the kids’ school more easily. Most importantly, it has much more space than the other two flats. W: Can we afford it? The more we spend on rent, the less we’ll have for other things. M: Actually, it’s less expensive than it seems because the rent includes all the bills. 14. When does the woman want the man to volunteer? A. On July 6th. B. A 17. W: Nick, our university will hold open days for future students on July 6th, 7th and 12th. About 45 volunteers are needed on each date, but we don’t have sufficient volunteers for the last date. Can you help? M: No problem. I remember volunteers wore a purple sweatshirt in previous years. Do I have to wear that too? W: Well, we’ve ordered a red T-shirt for each volunteer this year. M: OK. What’s happening on open days? W: First, visitors will report to the welcome desk to sign in. Then they’ll go to the Great Hall where there will be an opening speech. Afterwards, they’ll visit the departments which they are interested in. Actually, we also need several volunteers in the Student Services Room to answer visitors’ questions. M: What kind of questions? W: The admissions team will be there to explain the application process. The accommodation officers will talk about student housing options. We will also have an information desk on money management. You’re good at managing your money. So I was wondering if you could help with that. M: Sure. I’m sure many future students could benefit from my advice. 18. They provided them with lunch. 20. What impressed the speaker deeply about the experience? A. The students’ creativity. B. The government’s support. C. The college community spirit. A 19. C 20. Boys and girls, today, I’ll share my special experience in college with all of you. It was just at the end of the summer in 2013. It had been really dry and hot. Then toward the end of September, the rain came. At first, everyone was so pleased because the rain brought cooler temperatures. But then, it just kept raining and raining. It rained an entire week. Streams started flooding and roaring out of the mountains. The stream that went through my college campus flooded several resident buildings. Even though there was a lot of damage to the campus and the surrounding areas, there was a bright side. Students on the athletic teams served lunch to the flood victims in the community. Other students donated their clothes, shoes, and books to those who had lost their belongings. So even though the flooding was extremely severe, the supportive college community there made the experience unforgettable for me. A HYROX Global Fitness Races HYROX is a global fitness competition where participants complete 8 rounds of 1km running followed by 8 different fitness exercises in a fixed order. I stopped making time for new hobbies or trying anything new. Salsa lessons? No, thanks. Interactive theatre? Not for me. But my automatic “no” to anything that “wasn’t my thing” only kept me trapped in the same routine of work, sleep, eating, and that left me feeling listless and a little empty. So, in an effort to break the boredom, I began to question whether my taste was fixed at all, or whether it might be something I could train. I had read that children need 8 to 15 tries to accept a new food. Why shouldn’t the same principle apply to social activities for adults? I started small. When a friend invited me to a book club, I tried not to refuse it, despite my dislike of reading due to dyslexia But I went anyway. I listened to the first book and, to my surprise, enjoyed the discussion and the people. Now I spend mornings reading. Then came music and performance: jazz clubs, line dancing, performance — all things I had previously ignored. Most recently, I tried out my local library’s chess club. I was easily 30 years younger than everyone else, but that didn’t matter. Honestly, getting beaten by someone who had been playing since before your parents met was a special experience. I felt more connected to people here than at any social event for 20-year-olds. I made a weekly note in my diary to try new things, which helped me get out of the dull routine of studying, going home and feeling worn out every day. Now I simply count to five, approach the friendliest-looking person with a “hello”, and the awkward feeling goes away soon. Next week? Who knows. Maybe magic lessons. Maybe life drawing. Maybe both. 24. How did the author’s fixed idea affect her? A. It simplified her daily routine. B. It left her more time for work. C. It made her life dull and empty. D. It freed her from unwanted socializing. 25. Why did the author accept her friend’s invitation to a book club? A. To make an active shift in her life. B. To revisit a former interest in reading. C. To meet her friend’s repeated requests. D. To occupy a blank in her personal calendar. 26. How did the author feel when losing the chess game? A. Totally relieved. B. Slightly puzzled. C. Rather embarrassed. D. Somewhat delighted. 27. What message does the author try to convey? A. Learn to say no. B. Break out of your shell. C. Look before you leap. D. Let go of the past. C 25. A 26. D 27. 根据第一段“For most of my life, I treated taste as fixed. Sticking to that belief had left me in a bit of a standstill. (在我生命的大部分时间里,我认为品味是固定的。坚持这种信念让我有点停滞不前。)”以及“But my automatic ‘no’ to anything that ‘wasn’t my thing’ only kept me trapped in the same routine of work, sleep, eating, and that left me feeling listless and a little empty. (但我对任何‘不属于自己的事物’自动说‘不’,这使我陷入了重复的工作、睡眠、饮食的循环之中,这让我感到无精打采,有点空虚。)”可知,作者固有的观念让她的生活变得枯燥空虚。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“So, in an effort to break the boredom, I began to question whether my taste was fixed at all, or whether it might be something I could train. (所以,为了打破无聊,我开始质疑我的品味是否本来就是固定的,或者它是否可能是可以训练的东西。)”以及第三段“I started small. When a friend invited me to a book club, I tried not to refuse it, despite my dislike of reading due to dyslexia (阅读障碍症). (我从小事做起。当一位朋友邀请我参加读书俱乐部时,我试着不拒绝,尽管由于阅读障碍症我不喜欢阅读。)”可知,作者接受朋友的邀请是为了主动改变自己的生活。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Honestly, getting beaten by someone who had been playing since before your parents met was a special experience. I felt more connected to people here than at any social event for 20-year-olds. (老实说,被一个在你父母相遇之前就开始下棋的人打败是一种特殊的经历。我在这里感到与人们的联系比在任何20多岁的社交活动中都更紧密。)”可知,作者输棋时有些许高兴的感觉。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据全文内容,特别是第二段“So, in an effort to break the boredom, I began to question whether my taste was fixed at all, or whether it might be something I could train. (所以,为了打破无聊,我开始质疑我的品味是否本来就是固定的,或者它是否可能是可以训练的东西。)”以及最后一段“Next week? Who knows. Maybe magic lessons. Maybe life drawing. Maybe both. (下周?谁知道呢。也许是魔术课。也许是人体素描。也许两者都有。)”可知,作者试图传达的信息是突破自我,勇于尝试新事物。 C A new study published in the Journal of Applied Ecology revealed when, where and how most songbirds migrate offshore over North American coasts. This data can help wind energy managers cut down on birds dying from hitting wind turbines (涡轮机) while generating sustainable energy. The researchers studied 10 years of weather radar data from 16 sites and found that birds flying over the Atlantic Coast and the Gulf of Mexico gather more closely and move for a shorter time than those flying over land. More birds also migrate in fall than in spring. Shannon Curley, the study’s lead researcher, explained, “Birds migrate over the sea on fewer nights than over land. There’s no place to rest and refuel on the water, so birds may wait for ideal atmospheric conditions, such as favorable winds, before making an offshore crossing.” This short yet critical time window gives wind energy managers a chance to reduce collisions (相撞). Curley said they could pause turbine work on nights when migration is most intense-a practice that is currently more common in Europe than North America. “These peak nights of migration tend to have fairly nice weather and calmer winds, and are therefore not the nights when wind operators have a huge energy harvest,”Curley noted. “So there might be a sweet spot where we can target these big migration nights and give these birds safe passage.” The study also found that songbirds migrating offshore fly at lower altitudes than those migrating over land, potentially putting them at greater risk of wind turbine collisions. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says 140,000 to 327,000 birds die from land turbines each year. But no one knows how many die from offshore turbines, since dead birds’ bodies wash away easily. So using radar technology to identify high-risk areas is key. With one-third of all American bird species rapidly declining, data-driven decisions about turbine siting and operations can point the way to sustainable energy while also saving birds. “Our hope is that this work will help identify high-risk, high-use areas for birds and contribute to positive green energy solutions,” Curley said. 28. What can we learn about the songbirds in paragraph 2? A. They favor flying over open seas. B. They become more active on spring nights. C. They are particular about where to rest. D. They time crossings by weather conditions. 29. What does the underlined phrase “a sweet spot” refer to? A. An ideal balance. B. A moral dilemma. C. An opportunity for profit. D. A place without turbines. 30. Why is it difficult to identify high-risk areas offshore? A. Birds change their travelling routes. B. Wind strength at sea is unpredictable. C. Dead birds’ bodies are hard to trace. D. Radar technology is underdeveloped. 31. What does Curley think of the potential application of the new research? A. Risky. B. Promising. C. Productive. D. Challenging. D 29. A 30. C 31. 根据第二段“Birds migrate over the sea on fewer nights than over land. There’s no place to rest and refuel on the water, so birds may wait for ideal atmospheric conditions, such as favorable winds, before making an offshore crossing. (鸟类在海上迁徙的夜晚比在陆地上少。水面上没有休息和补充能量的地方,所以鸟类在进行近海迁徙前可能会等待理想的大气条件,比如适宜的风。)”可知,鸣禽会根据天气条件选择迁徙时机。故选D项。 【29题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段“These peak nights of migration tend to have fairly nice weather and calmer winds, and are therefore not the nights when wind operators have a huge energy harvest,”Curley noted. “So there might be a sweet spot where we can target these big migration nights and give these birds safe passage.” 故选A项。 根据第四段“But no one knows how many die from offshore turbines, since dead birds’ bodies wash away easily. So using radar technology to identify high-risk areas is key. 根据最后一段“Our hope is that this work will help identify high-risk, high-use areas for birds and contribute to positive green energy solutions, (我们希望这项研究能帮助识别鸟类的高风险、高频使用区域,并为积极的绿色能源解决方案做出贡献)”可知,柯利认为这项研究的潜在应用前景光明。故选B项。 D Literature students once read three books a week but today they struggle to make it through one in three weeks, Sir Jonathan Bate, a professor of English literature at the University of Oxford, has warned. Many young people entering university to study literature have not read extensively (广泛地), and they often have difficulty doing so during their time at university. This is a growing trend that many academics have observed, although it isn’t always the case. Bate told the BBC’s Today programme, “The currently fashionable answer is that it’s to do with the reduced attention due to smartphones, six-minute YouTube videos and instant TikTok hits.” “Actually it all begins in schools. You only have to look at the thinning of A-level syllabuses (教学大纲) and the tendency to assign works because they’re shorter,” Bate said. He added that it was also “an unintended consequence of the push in both the top British and American universities towards diversity and access… as some students come from schools where the teachers’ main task is crowd control, and so the demands in terms of reading long books are just not there.” State-funded charter (特许) schools in the US were an interesting phenomenon, however. “There’s a big comeback of classical education within these schools,” Bate said. Bate explained that his son was exposed to an extensive variety of works. “My teenager has just graduated from a charter high school called Great Hearts and there they read Iliad, Odyssey, Inferno, Crime and Punishment. He came home one day saying that they had been praised for studying Hegel because it’s really difficult. I’m amazed that 17-year-old American kids are reading Hegel. So there is some hope.” “If you haven’t got readers, what are writers going to do? The deep, thoughtful, quiet reading of great books is good for mental health. It’s also good for developing skills, for concentration and critical thinking, and if that falls away, that is problematic for society and individuals.” 32. How does the author present the topic? A. By stating a worrying change. B. By citing a research finding. C. By explaining a cultural concept. D. By describing a typical professor. 33. Which of the following does Bate think is a reason for the trend? A. Overuse of smartphones. B. Limited access to literary works. C. Insufficient school education. D. Poor learning ability at university. 34. What does Bate imply by referring to his son? A. Classical education is not a lost cause. B. The young are no strangers to classics. C. Charter schools deserve more attention. D. Great books are within teenagers’ reach. 35. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Literary Taste Gives Way to Screens B. Deep Reading Benefits Mental Health C. Literature Students Face a Reading Crisis D. Traditional Education Makes a Comeback 【答案】32. A 33. C 34. A 35. 根据第一段“Literature students once read three books a week but today they struggle to make it through one in three weeks, Sir Jonathan Bate, a professor of English literature at the University of Oxford, has warned. 根据第三段“Actually it all begins in schools. You only have to look at the thinning of A-level syllabuses and the tendency to assign works because they’re shorter,” Bate said. 和第四段“He added that it was also “an unintended consequence of the push in both the top British and American universities towards diversity and access… as some students come from schools where the teachers’ main task is crowd control, and so the demands in terms of reading long books are just not there.” 根据第五段“State-funded charter schools in the US were an interesting phenomenon, however. “There’s a big comeback of classical education within these schools,” Bate said. 通读全文,并结合第一段“Literature students once read three books a week but today they struggle to make it through one in three weeks, Sir Jonathan Bate, a professor of English literature at the University of Oxford, has warned. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) If you have ever added an extra item to your cart just to get free shipping, you have fallen victim to what is known as “spaving”, defined as the act of “spending more to save more”. ____36____ Here are some tips and tricks you might turn to next time you are tempted to spend a little more just to secure some savings. Take a second to do the math. The language of advertising may lead you to believe you are about to-get a great deal. ____37____ For example, for some “buy more, save more” deals, the percent discount is often the same. However, the original price of a product acts as an anchor, making the discount appear more valuable than it actually is. By doing the math, you’ll quickly realize that the savings aren’t as significant as they seem. ____38____ You won’t feel the impulse to shop sales if you don’t know about them. Consider taking yourself off the email lists from favorite brands so you are not getting informed every time a special is happening. Similarly, don’t walk into a store if you know there is a sale going on. Stay focused on your shopping list. You can avoid adding extra items to your cart if you have a shopping list in hand that you’ve created ahead of time. ____39____ Keep a full list of products that you intend to buy at some point and refer to it when you come across a sale. Pause before purchasing. ____40____ Carry out a 24-hour waiting period before making a purchase as well as to shop around, compare prices or even look for a renewed option. This gives you time to ensure you don’t already own the item or something similar, helping to avoid unnecessary repetition. A. Tum off sales alerts. B. Spave with a purpose. C. But the numbers tell a different story. D. But consider all the potential ways to save the money. E. It can also help you to use sales more to your advantage. F. Just take a moment to decide whether the buy is needed or not. G. To avoid such a trap. it matters quite a lot to interrupt the urge. G 37. C 38. A 39. E 40. 以及下文“Here are some tips and tricks you might turn to next time you are tempted to spend a little more just to secure some savings. 可知,上文提出“spaving”这一概念,即“为了多省钱而多花钱”,下文则给出避免该陷阱的建议,G选项“To avoid such a trap, it matters quite a lot to interrupt the urge. 【37题详解】 根据上文“The language of advertising may lead you to believe you are about to get a great deal. 可知,此处应是在描述广告语言的迷惑性,以及通过计算可以揭示真相,C选项“But the numbers tell a different story. Consider taking yourself off the email lists from favorite brands so you are not getting informed every time a special is happening. You can avoid adding extra items to your cart if you have a shopping list in hand that you’ve created ahead of time. 可知,此处是在建议制定购物清单以避免冲动购物,E选项“It can also help you to use sales more to your advantage. 以及下文“Carry out a 24-hour waiting period before making a purchase as well as to shop around, compare prices or even look for a renewed option. It was a peaceful spot where the sunlight danced on the water and birds sang in the trees above. At the far end of the lake was an old wooden bench (长凳). Emma had made it her spot since moving to the neighborhood five years ago. Now in her early sixties, Emma had recently retired from teaching. Her days were slower and quieter. Sitting by the lake brought her comfort and reminded her of the beauty in stillness. One spring morning, she noticed someone on “her” bench — a teenage boy sat there, with earphones in, eyes fixed on the ground. Emma paused, unsure whether to approach. She walked slowly around the lake, hoping he might leave. But when she returned, he was still there. She sat at the edge of the bench, careful not to interrupt him. The boy didn't respond. After a while, Emma spoke, “It's a beautiful place, isn't it? ” He said nothing at first. Then, without turning, he replied, “I guess. ” From that Saturday on, the boy kept showing up. Emma adjusted. Sometimes they said nothing. Other times, she asked soft questions, and over the weeks, he gave short replies. His name was Theo. He was 16 and had just moved in with his grandparents after his parents' separation. One day, without her asking, he said, “I come here because it's quiet. Everything else is just loud. ” Emma nodded, “The lake has always helped me think. ” Their quiet company continued into summer. One day, he showed up with a sketchbook (写生簿) and drew the lake. Emma watched, amazed by his talent. “You're an artist,” she said. “You should enter the art contest in the community.” Theo gave a small smile. Then one hot Saturday, Emma didn't come. Days later, still no Emma. Worried, Theo couldn't wait to know what had happened to Emma. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Encouraged by Emma in hospital, Theo entered the contest. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Worried, Theo couldn't wait to know what had happened to Emma. He walked to the small grocery store nearby and asked the cashier if she had seen Emma recently. The woman told that Emma had a fall and was in hospital. Theo visited her the next day, awkwardly holding a bouquet of wildflowers from near the lake. Emma's eyes lit up when she saw him. He held out the flowers toward her and said shyly. “I thought you might miss the lake so I brought my sketchbook too. ” She beamed and said, “Great! Your lake sketch should be seen by more people. Why not enter the art contest in our community? ” Encouraged by Emma in hospital, Theo entered the contest. Theo eventually won the second place. The sketch of the lake, with the old wooden bench and a small figure seated at one end, was displayed at the community center. When Emma recovered, they returned to the bench together. Fall leaves had begun to scatter, and the lake mirrored the golden sky. They sat in silence, two different lives crossing at just the right moment. And as the wind stirred the water and leaves danced at their feet, neither of them felt lonely anymore. 1】He walked to the small grocery store nearby and asked the cashier if she had seen Emma recently.(运用了if引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型 2】The sketch of the lake, with the old wooden bench and a small figure seated at one end, was displayed at the community center.(运用了with的复合结构) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $高二英语听力部分,请看听力部分第一节。 Were you are taking pictures? B For most of my life, I treated taste as fixed. Sticking to that belief had left me in a bit of a standstill. C A new study published in the Journal of Applied Ecology revealed when, where and how most songbirds migrate offshore over North American coasts. D Literature students once read three books a week but today they struggle to make it through one in three weeks, Sir Jonathan Bate, a professor of English literature at the University of Oxford, has warned. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
