“You!” said the Caterpillar (毛毛虫) coldly. “Who are you?”
Alice replied, rather shyly, “I — I hardly know, sir, just at present — at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I have been changed several times since then.” She felt cross and decided to leave.
“Come back!” the Caterpillar called. “I’ve something important to say!”
This sounded hopeful, so Alice turned back.
“Keep your temper,” said the Caterpillar.
“I will!” said Alice, trying not to be angry.
“No,” said the Caterpillar. It smoked without speaking. At last it took the hookah (水烟袋) out of its mouth and said, “So you think you’re changed, do you? How tall do you want to be?”
“A little taller, please,” said Alice. “Three inches is such an awful height.”
In silence, the Caterpillar smoked its hookah. Then it got down off the mushroom (蘑菇), saying, “One side will make you grow taller, and the other will make you grow shorter.”
“One side of what?” thought Alice to herself.
“Of the mushroom,” said the Caterpillar, as if she had asked it aloud.
Alice looked at the round mushroom carefully. “No sides at all!” she said to herself. At last she broke off a piece from each side. She ate a little bit of the piece in her right hand nervously and she became smaller right away. So she took a bite from the left-hand piece. This time, her head was as high as the tallest tree in the wood and her neck was much longer. A sea of green leaves was below her.

Zhang Xue cried in excitement, dancing and waving a Chinese flag — acting like a teenager living out his dream. He was watching a French rider Valentin Debise make history on a motorcycle (摩托车) built by his company (公司).
At an international motorcycle race in 2026, Debise won on a ZXMOTO bike. He finished 4 seconds faster than others and set a new record. This was the first time a Chinese motorcycle company won this race, ending the rule of big companies like Ducati and Yamaha.
But this dream didn’t come easily. Zhang Xue’s love for motorcycles started when he was a 17-year-old mechanic (机修工) in a mountain village in Hunan province. In 2003, after finishing middle school, he worked in a repair (修理) shop. He loved motorcycles so much that he practiced riding on dirt roads, even if he fell and got hurt. At 19, he had a chance to show his skills on TV. Although he failed first, Zhang Xue didn't give up. He followed the TV team for 100 kilometers in the heavy rain. Moved by him, the team gave him a chance again. Later, he joined a racing team and became a racer.
Later, Zhang saw that China couldn’t make good motorcycles. So, he moved to Chongqing in 2013 to build his own. In 2017, he started Kove Moto with others. But in 2024, he left to start his own company, ZXMOTO, because he wanted to make powerful engines (发动机). Almost a year later, the company started selling its motorcycles. The motorcycles sold well worldwide, with over 10,000 units in four months.
Zhang said, “Follow your dreams! Because I was brave, my life is amazing!” His story shows that by working hard and never giving up, you can realize your dreams.
52. The writer starts the passage by _________.
A. telling a story. B. asking a question. C. singing a song. D. describing a situation.
53. When was Zhang Xue one of the most famous people in the world? _________
A. 2003. B. 2013 C. 2024. D. 2026.

A. Because Kove Moto was not a success. B. Because he had a strong engine dream.
C. Because money mattered much to him. D. Because he gave up his hope for it.
55. What does the writer want to tell us through the story? _________
A. Winning a race is the only way to success. B. Good motorcycles need powerful engines.

①Imagine you are in an autonomous vehicle (AV, 自动驾驶车辆) and face this terrible choice: The car must either turn left and hit an 8-year-old girl, or turn right and hit many walkers. On top of this “moral dilemma”, if the car doesn’t turn, you could be in danger. What decision would you want the car to make?
②When AVs face dangerous situations, should they save people in the car first or walkers? Should they put the greater good above one person’s safety? These questions have been under discussion for years, but there is no perfect answer.
③“A moral dilemma is a dilemma; it has no clear answer,” wrote Derek Leben, a professor at the Tepper School of Business, US, in his paper.
④Iyad Radhwan, an MIT scientist studied these questions. He found out that people often think about their own safety first. “People buying these cars, they want cars that protect the passengers. But they want other people’s cars to protect walkers instead.”
⑤AVs bring not only moral dilemmas but also problems with rules. If there is an accident, who should be responsible?
⑥In July, 2024, a self-driving taxi by Baidu hit a walker in Wuhan, Hubei, who ran a red light. Baidu worked with the police and took the walker to the hospital. In another accident in Seattle, US. in April, 2024, it was decided that the “driver” should be responsible because he was on his phone while in the full self-driving mode (模式).
⑦The situations of different accidents caused by AVs are so complex (复杂的) that “now there are no very clear laws about it”, said Ji Xuehong, a researcher from North China University of technology.
56. Which of the following sentences can we put “dilemma” in?
A. His biggest ________ was forgetting to bring lunch to school yesterday.
B. She faced a ________ when accepting the job abroad or stay with her family.
C. The broken computer caused a serious ________ for his work project.
D. The teacher gave us a fun ________ to solve in groups during class.
57. What is Paragraph 6 mainly about?
A. Real-life examples of AV accidents in China. B. The best ways to deal with the moral dilemma.
C. Different situations of accidents caused by AVs. D. Rules of driving AVs in big cities like Seattle.
58. What might be Ji Xuehong’s opinion in the last paragraph?
A. AVs remain difficult to drive. B. AVs can replace human drivers.
C. AVs can cause a lot of trouble. D. AVs require better traffic laws.
59. Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?
A. B.

The “Backbasket Ferry” (背篓渡轮) on the Yangtze River
Every dawn, when the sky is still dark, the red ferry YuZhong Ke 2180 blows its horn (号角) at Yangdu Dock (码头) in Chongqing to Xishan Dock. For 14 years, this boat has been the last “water bus” on the Yangtze River. It is not for rich tourists, but for elderly farmers wearing straw hats. Their bamboo baskets, full of fresh cabbages and green vegetables, are piled (被堆叠) high on the deck. These farmers depend on this boat to cross the wide river to sell their goods at the city market.
However, in 2022, the ferry faced a big problem. Fewer young people lived on the island, and passenger numbers dropped. The old ferry was breaking down and the company almost stopped the service. The farmers were very worried because they would have no way to make a living.
Luckily, a video of the old captain and the farmers went viral online. Millions of netizens (网民) were touched by this simple lifestyle. Donations poured in from all over the country, and the local government gave a big subsidy (补贴) to build a new ship.
On March 31, 2026, a brand-new white ferry started its first trip. Compared to the old one, it is bigger, safer, and equipped with air conditioning, which keeps the farmers cool in summer. Although the facilities (设备) are better, the ticket prices remain the same — only ¥5 to ¥12.
Captain Qin Dayi, who has sailed for 30 years, smiled and said, “This ferry is not just a boat; it is the farmers’ hope.” Now, the new ferry continues to carry not only vegetables but also the warm love from people all over China.

When you fail a test or lose a chance in sports, you may feel upset. Luckily, self-complexity (自我复杂性) can help you out.
Li Ming used to think of himself only as a top student. Every time he failed the exam, he felt upset. Now he sees himself as a student, a painter and a big brother. When failing a test, he said, “It’s okay. I’m still a good painter and a helpful brother.” He felt much better soon. He learned to have “self-complexity”. It means he sees himself in different roles (角色), not just one.
With self-complexity, when you have trouble as a “student” role, you won’t feel bad about the other roles. So you can stay calm and keep going. Also, if you have a role like “a home cook”, you may develop your planning skills like managing time well. If you see yourself as a “good pet owner”, you may quickly learn the skills of looking after animals. These skills can help you know yourself better.
However, some people don’t think so. But a study by Dr. Lee proved (证明) this wrong. He asked two groups of students to try a science project. One group had high self-complexity (with many roles), and the other had low self-complexity (with only one role). The result shows if people have high self-complexity, they are more active in the project. They also have strong minds when dealing with challenges.
Finally, how to build self-complexity? First, if you are not clear about what roles you have, just write them down like “friend” or “family helper”. Second, spend a little time on each role every week like playing basketball for 30 minutes after school. Third, when you feel upset about one role, say out loud, “I’m more than just this.” It will help you remember your other roles.
If you often feel upset about failures, you can feel much better by 74 . It means seeing yourself in many different roles, not just one. With it, you can stay calm to face failures. Also, 75 so you can know yourself better. Some people disagree. However, a study shows that 76 because they’re more active and strong-hearted. Finally, some useful tips are suggested like 77 , spending time on each role and reminding yourself of your roles.
