Think of a world without traffic rules. Cars drive wherever they want. Bikes move quickly on sidewalks. People cross busy streets anytime, anywhere. Things would be out of order and dangerous!
Thankfully, our real world is not like that. We have traffic rules and everyone must follow them. People make these rules not to make our lives more difficult. They are here to create order and, most importantly, to keep everyone safe.
▲ Red means “stop”, green means “go”, and yellow means “slow down and be ready to stop”. They stop cars from running into each other and keep walkers safe too. Crosswalks give people a safe place to walk across the street. Drivers know they should stop to watch for walkers there.
Different places sometimes have different rules. In the UK and Thailand, people drive on the left side of the road. However, in the US and China, drivers use the right side. But the most important rules, like stopping at a red light, are the same almost everywhere in the world. The goal is always the same: safety and order for all.
