The world scientific community is sad about the loss of Chen-Ning Yang, a great man in modern physics and a loyal son of China, who passed away (去世) in Beijing on October 18, 2025, at the age of 103. As a Professor of Tsinghua University, he left valuable treasures to both science and his motherland.
Born in Hefei, Anhui Province, Yang studied at the National Southwestern Associated University, got a master’s degree from Tsinghua, and a Ph. D.from the University of Chicago. After his outstanding studying experiences, he returned to Tsinghua University in 1999, spending his later years training the younger talents in his homeland.
Yang’s scientific work stood among the very greatest in the 20th century. He worked with Robert Mills on the “Yang-Mills gauge theory (杨-米尔斯规范场论)”, which became an important part of particle physics (粒子物理学). His work with Tsung-Dao Lee on a great study earned them the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics, making them the first Chinese to win it. He also found the “Yang-Baxter equation (杨-巴克斯特方程)” and started new fields in math and physics.
Besides his study, Yang loved his country deeply. In 1971, he started academic exchange (学术交流) between China and the US by visiting China, inspiring a large number of scientists to connect with their motherland. He also raised money to help nearly 100 Chinese students study in the US and many of them later played an important role in China’s science.
Chen-Ning Yang’s life is the story of a man who aimed for the best and loved his country sincerely. (2026·山东烟台·二模)Du Mengran, a great Chinese scientist known as “Deep-Sea Diver” by Nature, has become a role model for many young people. She was born in a small city in Shandong Province. From an early age, she was curious about the ocean and often asked her parents questions about sea creatures and the deep sea. This childhood passion planted the seed for her future scientific career.
Du’s love for science led her to study hard. She did well in math and biology at school. After graduating from high school, she went to a famous university to study marine science. During her college years, she not only mastered professional knowledge but also joined the school’s marine exploration club. She spent countless weekends in the laboratory, analyzing seawater samples and studying the habits of deep-sea organisms. Even when experiments failed repeatedly, she never lost heart.
Du Mengran’s success comes from her hard work. Her work focuses on deep-sea diving and how to explore the ocean. She studies the systems of fluids that seep from the sea floor, and even came up with a new idea about how deep-sea creatures live. This idea has helped make underwater technologies better. Up to December 2025, she has gone on over 30 deep-sea dives. She has used China’s own underwater vehicles like “Jiaolong”, “Shenhai Yongshi” and “Fendouzhe”. In 2022, she started a program to explore the deepest parts of the world’s oceans. She led teams from China and Indonesia to discover two new hot-water activity areas in the Java Trench. In 2024, she helped create a machine that can read DNA in the deep sea. In 2025, she also tested China’s first deep-sea gamma radiation detector.

Double victory! On March 28 and 29, a motorcycle made by the Chinese brand ZXMOTO won both races at the Portuguese round of the Superbike World Championship (WSBK).
WSBK is not only a competition where riders race for speed, but also a stage for companies to present their production ability. The victory marks the first time a Chinese motorcycle brand has won this event. For many years, the sport was dominated by big motorcycle brands such as Italy’s Ducati, Germany’s BMW and Japan’s Honda.
Zhang Xue, 39, founder of ZXMOTO, told Xinhua that the winning motorcycle has a more powerful engine and lighter body than other motorcycles in the race.
Years ago, it was almost impossible for a Chinese brand to build such high-performance motorcycles. That’s because there were no powerful China-made engines. Key technologies to improve engine performance were also locked by leading foreign companies.
Zhang has seen and taken part in the development of China’s motorcycle industry. As a motorcycle lover, he has worked as a repairman and a racer. In 2013, he went to Chongqing, China’s motorcycle capital, where he began building his first motorcycle.
In 2024, Zhang founded ZXMOTO and focused on researching and developing engines. His aim matches China’s goal of high-quality development and innovation (创新).
Today, Chongqing is home to more than 40 motorcycle makers and over 400 components (零部件) producers. “In only one market, you can find all the components you need to build a motorcycle,” Zhang told Xinhua. “I believe our victory will make China’s motorcycle industry more confident, and force the international community to reconsider how they view us.”

4.What does Zhang Xue say is special about Chongqing?
A.It is famous for being the home of racing.
B.He used to work as a repairman there.
C.It offers the best business environment.
D.It has a complete motorcycle production chain.
5.How might ZXMOTO’s victory influence China’s motorcycle industry?
A.China will control global motorcycle production.
B.China will face more competition worldwide.
C.China’s motorcycle industry will get more confidence.
D.China’s government will focus on producing race motorcycles.
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.B 4.D 5.C
