W: Yes. It’s unfortunate we don’t have a bigger school gym.
M: Well, quite. And it worries me that the students aren’t exercising regularly. A middle-school teacher recently has become popular on social media for creating “desk dances” for students.
W: And you want to do the same?
M: Yeah. A five-minute “warm-up” dance at the start of each lesson will be a great way for students to exercise and release stress without leaving the classroom. And students can also do this on snowy and hot days in the future.
W: I think it’s a great idea! You have my permission to go ahead.

Before we all eat and drink too much, I just want to say a few words. And don’t worry, I’ve been told by my wife to keep this brief as she doesn’t want me getting all emotional! It’s funny, because when I was a child, I wanted to be a policeman like my father. Who would have thought that I’d actually end up in the same profession as his brother? I’ve been working for this department for 20 years now! There has been laughter along the way as well as some low moments, but what has always kept me going is the people in this room right now. I don’t just consider you my workmates, but I consider you family. But in all honesty, the time is right for me to finally relax and tend my garden. Thanks for all the memories! I’ll miss you all!
A
A group of highly accomplished schoolmates gathered at their old university professor’s home for a reunion. They had once been his favorite students, but now, as successful professionals, they looked tired and stressed. Soon, the conversation turned into a long list of complaints: endless work pressure, difficult bosses, financial worries, and the constant race for status.
The professor listened quietly, then smiled. He walked to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of steaming coffee and various cups. There were porcelain cups, glass cups, crystal cups, and plastic ones. Some looked plain and cheap, others were elegant and expensive, and a few were truly exquisite.
“Help yourselves to the coffee,” the professor said warmly.
The schoolmates eagerly lined up. Each of them reached for a beautiful cup. No one picked the plain ones. When everyone was seated with a cup in hand, the professor spoke again.
“Did you notice something? All the nice-looking, expensive cups were taken, and only the plain, inexpensive ones remain. That’s perfectly normal — we all want the best for ourselves. But that is also where your problems and stress come from.”
He paused, letting the words sink in.
The cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In fact, sometimes the expensive cup only hides the drink or makes us worry about breaking it. “What you all really wanted was coffee, not the cup.” He added. “Yet you consciously chose the best cups, and then started eyeing each other’s cups.”
The students once again looked at one another, thoughtful and silent.
Then the professor concluded softly, “So, stop focusing on the cups. Enjoy the coffee.”
Truly, life itself is the coffee — rich, complex, and fleeting. The jobs, houses, cars, money, and social positions are just cups. They hold their life but do not define or improve its essence (本质). People spend so much energy chasing the perfect cup that they forget to taste the drink. A humble cup held with gratitude still holds the same life-giving warmth. The real tragedy is not having an ugly cup, but letting the cup go cold and untouched. That evening, the schoolmates left the professor’s house in silence, not because they were disappointed, but because they were finally thinking.
21. How did the professor make his point?
A. By listing data. B. By describing a phenomenon.
C. By offering a quote. D. By making a comparison.
22. What advice did the professor offer for his students?
A. To enjoy coffee without cups.
B. To pay attention to life itself.
C. To stop complaining about the stress.
D. To choose the most beautiful cups they can find.
23. Which of the following words can best describe the professor?
A. Accomplished and proud. B. Thoughtful and wise.
C. Caring and determined. D. Generous and creative.
D 22. B 23. B
通读全文,尤其是根据第七段“The cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In fact, sometimes the expensive cup only hides the drink or makes us worry about breaking it. “What you all really wanted was coffee, not the cup.” He added. “Yet you consciously chose the best cups, and then started eyeing each other’s cups.”(杯子本身并不会增加咖啡的品质。事实上,有时昂贵的杯子反而掩盖了饮品本身,或者让我们担心把它打碎。“你们真正想要的其实是咖啡,而不是杯子,”他补充道。“然而你们却有意识地去挑选最好的杯子,然后又开始互相打量别人的杯子。”)”和最后一段“Truly, life itself is the coffee — rich, complex, and fleeting. That evening, the schoolmates left the professor’s house in silence, not because they were disappointed, but because they were finally thinking.(的确,生活本身就是咖啡——醇厚、复杂而又转瞬即逝。
根据倒数第二段中“So, stop focusing on the cups. Enjoy the coffee.(所以,别再盯着杯子了。享受咖啡吧。)”以及最后一段中“Truly, life itself is the coffee — rich, complex, and fleeting. The jobs, houses, cars, money, and social positions are just cups. They hold their life but do not define or improve its essence (本质). People spend so much energy chasing the perfect cup that they forget to taste the drink.(的确,生活本身就是咖啡——醇厚、复杂而又转瞬即逝。工作、房子、车子、金钱和社会地位都只是杯子而已。它们承载着生活,却不能定义或提升生活的本质。人们耗费太多精力去追逐完美的杯子,以至于忘记了品尝饮品本身。)”可知,教授建议学生们关注生活本身。
【23题详解】
推理判断题。根据教授耐心倾听学生抱怨、巧妙运用比喻引导学生思考人生本质可知,他是一位深思熟虑且充满智慧的人。
B
Freezers are essential technology, as they keep many different kinds of foods and medicines fresh. But they worsen climate change. Boris Rubinsky, a biomedical engineer at the University of California, came up with the idea for isochoric freezing (定容冷冻) while working on ways to preserve human organs. If the food industry worldwide were to switch over to this method, as Rubinsky’s team found, the drop in emissions per year would be the same as taking about one million gas-powered cars off the road.
To use isochoric freezing, you fill a special canister (金属罐) with water first, float food inside, near the top. Then you seal it up and place the whole thing in a regular freezer. The water begins freezing from the bottom and expands. This increases the pressure inside the canister. Eventually, the high pressure makes it impossible for ice to keep forming. The food at the top remains floating in water at “close to freezing temperatures, but without any ice in the food”, explains Bilbao-Sainz, a food scientist at the US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service in Northern California.
Why does this save electricity? The food never freezes solid, so it takes much less energy to get the canister cold enough. A typical food freezer runs at-20 degrees Celsius, but to use isochoric freezing with solid foods such as tomatoes or blueberries, your freezer needs to be at-5 degrees Celsius or higher.
To use the new technique, the food industry wouldn’t have to change out their current freezers, just set them to run warmer. Bilbao-Sainz and her team are working on ways to produce and sell canisters of different sizes.
If all that weren’t exciting enough, this new method also usually results in fresher, tastier foods. Regular freezing forms ice that damages many foods. If you put a tomato into a regular freezer, for example, it will go bad when you thaw (解冻) it. In an isochoric freezer, though, “tomatoes got really, really good results,” says Bilbao-Sainz. “They taste fresh.”
24. What do we know about isochoric freezing?
A. It was originally developed for a commercial purpose.
B. It has been applied in the food industry worldwide.
C. It reduces the stress on the environment.
D. It can help reduce gas-powered cars.
25. Which aspect of isochoric freezing is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The influential benefits.
B. The working principle.
C. The potential application.
D. The technical challenges.
26. What might the food industry do according to the passage?
A. Run the freezing industry. B. Replace their current freezers.
C. Produce canisters of different sizes. D. Set the temperature of the freezers higher.
27. What is the author’s attitude towards isochoric freezing?
A. Supportive. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
C 25. B 26. D 27. A
根据第一段中“If the food industry worldwide were to switch over to this method, as Rubinsky’s team found, the drop in emissions per year would be the same as taking about one million gas-powered cars off the road.(正如Rubinsky的团队研究发现,如果全球食品行业都改用这种冷冻技术,每年减少的碳排放量,相当于路上减少大约一百万辆燃油汽车。)”
根据第二段中“To use isochoric freezing, you fill a special canister (金属罐) with water first, float food inside, near the top. Then you seal it up and place the whole thing in a regular freezer. The water begins freezing from the bottom and expands. This increases the pressure inside the canister. Eventually, the high pressure makes it impossible for ice to keep forming. The food at the top remains floating in water at “close to freezing temperatures, but without any ice in the food”, explains Bilbao-Sainz, a food scientist at the US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service in Northern California.(定容冷冻的操作步骤如下:先向特制金属罐中注水,再把食物放在水中,浮在上层。接着密封罐体,把整个容器放进普通冷冻柜。水会从底部开始结冰并发生膨胀,使得罐内压力不断升高。最终,高压使得冰无法继续形成。食物在顶部保持漂浮在水中,“接近冰点温度,但食物中没有任何冰”,北加州美国农业部农业研究服务局的食品科学家Bilbao-Sainz解释道。)”可知,第二段主要阐述了定容冷冻技术的具体操作步骤和原理。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“To use the new technique, the food industry wouldn’t have to change out their current freezers, just set them to run warmer.(为了使用这项新技术,食品工业不需要更换他们当前的冷冻设备,只需将它们设置为在更高的温度下运行。)”
根据第三段中“Why does this save electricity? The food never freezes solid, so it takes much less energy to get the canister cold enough.(为什么这会节省电力?食物永远不会冻成固体,所以让金属罐足够冷所需的能量要少得多。)”、第四段中“To use the new technique, the food industry wouldn’t have to change out their current freezers, just set them to run warmer.(为了使用这项新技术,食品工业不需要更换他们当前的冷冻设备,只需将它们设置为在更高的温度下运行。)”以及最后一段中“If all that weren’t exciting enough, this new method also usually results in fresher, tastier foods.(如果所有这些还不够令人兴奋,这种新方法通常还能产生更新鲜、更美味的食物。)”
C
For much of the year, the main attraction of Zhuji, a city in Zhejiang province, is its status as the birthplace of Xi Shi, a woman of great classical beauty who lived 2,500 years ago. But since 2023 tens of thousands have been to Zhuji around the new year for the Xi Shi Music Festival. More than 133,000 visitors stayed overnight during this year’s event, a 29% increase over the one in 2025.
China is enjoying a concert boom. Last year the box-office intake from performances totalled 62 billion yuan, up from 20 billion in 2019, according to figures from the China Association of Performing Arts. Not only are there more offerings, but better ones, too. On a concert of Mayday, a rock band from Taiwan, band members popped up as giant avatars on a huge 3D screen. They also wowed the crowd on a bus, on which a stage was set up, as it circled its way around the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing.
What is striking is that almost everywhere else consumers have been unwilling to spend since the pandemic (流行病), yet concerts have roared back to life in China. Visitors lift the economies of the spots they go to as they splash out (挥霍) on food and accommodation. Some places have started introducing policies to attract artists to perform. The Performing Arts Association suggests that one yuan spent on concert tickets can bring nearly seven yuan of additional spending.
Some fans are particularly hardcore. Last year Ms Wang, a 35-year-old, followed Mayday to different cities to watch their shows, together with her husband, spending 20,000 yuan on tickets and the same again on flights and hotels. Going to shows is one of the things that she looks forward to most. She also recalls sobbing uncontrollably during her first Mayday concert after the pandemic.
Chinese commentary has come to call this kind of spending “emotional consumption”: paying for experiences to comfort the soul, rather than collecting material possessions. This kind of spending is rising in spite of, or perhaps even because of, a discouraging economic situation. Some may regard the trend as a one-time thing; if it gets young people to consume, though, you might just rock and roll with it.
28. What can we infer from the first three paragraphs?
A. Better stages have been set up for artistic purposes.
B. Zhuji is visited all year round for Xi Shi Music Festival.
C. Concerts are bringing more economic benefits than ever before.
D. Art performance is gaining increasing popularity around the world.
29. What does the underlined word “hardcore” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Devoted. B. Fortunate. C. Emotional. D. Experienced.
30. According to the last paragraph, which of the following might lead to the concert boom?
A. Energetic youth. B. Weak economy. C. Wealthy audience. D. Social development.
31. What might be the best title of the passage?
A. Music Festival: A Booming New Year Tradition
B. Music Festival: A Technological Wonder on Stage
C. China’s Concert Boom: Spending on Experiences
D. China’s Concert Boom: Lifesaver of the Art Industry
C 29. A 30. B 31. C
根据前三段内容尤其是第二段中“Last year the box-office intake from performances totalled 62 billion yuan, up from 20 billion in 2019, according to figures from the China Association of Performing Arts. (根据中国演艺协会的数据,去年演出票房收入达620亿元人民币,较2019年的200亿元大幅增长。)”以及第三段中“Visitors lift the economies of the spots they go to as they splash out (挥霍) on food and accommodation. (游客们纷纷在餐饮和住宿方面大手笔消费,带动了所到之处的经济活力。)”可知,从前三个段落中我们可以推断出演唱会带来的经济效益比以往任何时候都多。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段中“Last year Ms Wang, a 35-year-old, followed Mayday to different cities to watch their shows, together with her husband, spending 20,000 yuan on tickets and the same again on flights and hotels. Going to shows is one of the things that she looks forward to most. She also recalls sobbing uncontrollably during her first Mayday concert after the pandemic.
根据最后一段中“This kind of spending is rising in spite of, or perhaps even because of, a discouraging economic situation. Some may regard the trend as a one-time thing; if it gets young people to consume, though, you might just rock and roll with it. (尽管经济形势令人沮丧,甚至可能正是因此,这类消费正日益增长。有人或许认为这只是暂时现象;但如果能激发年轻人的消费热情,那你或许就可以顺势而为。)”可推知,低迷的经济形势反而可能是推动演唱会热潮的原因,人们转向“情感消费”慰藉心灵。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及最后一段“Chinese commentary has come to call this kind of spending “emotional consumption”: paying for experiences to comfort the soul, rather than collecting material possessions. This kind of spending is rising in spite of, or perhaps even because of, a discouraging economic situation. Some may regard the trend as a one-time thing; if it gets young people to consume, though, you might just rock and roll with it.

She treated countless patients who were trapped in hardships and never cared about personal wealth or fame. Instead of choosing an easy and comfortable life, she always put patients first and served ordinary people with great kindness and responsibility.

It was a Saturday. My mother had left the house to buy some eggs from a nearby supermarket, and my brother and I were the only ones at home. As I had an upcoming examination, I sat down at my desk and started revising for it.
“James, can you stop watching cartoons? The noise is distracting (干扰) me. How about you come over and do some of your homework?” I suggested. My brother readily agreed.
A while after, I felt a sharp thirst in my throat and longed for a drink. As I was in the middle of solving a hard math question, I asked my brother to help bring me a cup of water. My brother went to the kitchen and I revised my work.
“Argh!” Out of the blue, an ear-piercing (刺耳) scream broke the silence. Without hesitation, I got up from my seat and rushed to see what had happened.
Upon entering the kitchen, I gasped. I could not believe what I saw. The newspapers that my mother had collected for recycling were on fire! I grabbed my brother by his hand and made sure he was safe before I hurriedly splashed water on the papers to prevent the fire from spreading further. Despite my best efforts, the fire was growing rapidly. Soon, the orange beast had cornered both of us. We backed away to the toilet.
“Help! Help!” my brother opened a window and screamed. The fire alarm started ringing, fueling our fear. Racking my brains for a solution, I turned on the shower and started to spray water at the fire. Suddenly, a spark (火花) managed to land on my brother’s right sleeve, but I reacted quickly and put it out. Alas, the heat made us feel like melting ice cream. The fire was getting closer and about to engulf (吞没) us.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
At that moment, we heard loud sirens (警笛声) approaching from a distance. A wave of relief washed over me as I realized help was finally on the way. We screamed for help at the top of our lungs and waved our hands desperately, hoping the firefighters could see us. Minutes later, a powerful stream of water rushed into the room and the violent fire gradually died down. Two brave firefighters climbed through the window, lifted us up quickly and carried us to safety downstairs. We were shocked but grateful, trembling in each other’s arms.
After the fire was put out, my mother rushed to us with tears in her eyes. Looking extremely worried, she hugged us tightly and checked if we were hurt. A paramedic came over in no time and treated my brother’s minor burn gently with some medicine. James apologized nervously, admitting he had played with a birthday candle and accidentally started the fire. I also felt regretful for not looking after him well. This terrible incident taught us a priceless lesson about fire safety and the importance of staying calm in dangerous situations.

A. Supportive. B. Concerned. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
