Last summer, I volunteered at a local children’s hospital. I was nervous at first because I didn’t know what to expect. But soon I found that the experience changed my life in many ways.
Every Saturday morning, I went to the hospital and spent time with the children. Some of them were too sick to leave their beds, so I read stories to them. Others could play games in the activity room. We played chess, drew pictures, and even had small talent shows. The children’s laughter filled the room, and their smiles were the best reward I could ever get.
One girl named Lily touched me deeply. She was only eight years old and had been in the hospital for three months. Although she was weak, she always tried to cheer up others. She would say, “Don’t worry, I will get better soon!” Her courage made me realize how lucky I was. I learned to value every moment of my life.
This volunteer experience taught me an important lesson: helping others is not just about giving—it is also about receiving. I received warmth, friendship, and a new understanding of life. Now I understand why my teacher always says, “The more you give, the more you get.”

Shadow puppet plays (皮影戏) are an ancient form of performance in China. They began in China over 2,000 years ago. Now shadow puppet plays are still popular in some parts of China, especially in Shanxi and Gansu provinces.
In a shadow puppet show, the puppets themselves can’t be seen. Only their shadows can be seen. How does it work? Let’s find out.
How to prepare the stage (舞台)
●First, cut out an opening from the center of a large piece of board (木板).
●Then, cover the opening with a piece of white cloth.
●A bright light is set up behind the puppets.
●When the light is turned on, black shadows are shown on the white cloth. When the puppets move, the shadows move.
How to make shadow puppets
●Choose a story with two or three characters.
●Draw the shape of each person or animal on a piece of black poster board. Use a white pencil so you can see the lines clearly.
●Cut out the puppets carefully.
●Make a drinking straw (吸管) connected to the back of each puppet.
●Use it to control each puppet across the stage.
Today, many young people are learning to make and perform shadow puppet plays. They want to keep this traditional art alive. The Chinese government also helps protect this cultural treasure. 【
take…as an example为固定搭配,example意为“例子”;idea“主意”、opinion“观点”、education“教育”不能匹配这个固定短语。
trust between humans and robots表示人与机器人二者之间的信任,between意为“(两者)之间”;among“(三者及以上)之间”、in“在……
nobody knows that for sure是常用表达,knows意为“知道”;agrees“同意”、feels“感觉”、helps“帮助”语义不通。
take over意为“接管、掌控”,对应人们对于人工智能的担忧;come over“过来”、turn over“翻转”、look over“检查”不符合文意。
