In Britain you may often hear “Drop in any time” or “Come to see me soon”, but you can’t really do that. People just say those things to make you feel welcome. It is better to telephone before visiting someone at home. If you receive a written invitation to an event that says “RSVP”, you should reply to let the person who sent the invitation know whether you plan to go or not.
You should never accept an invitation unless you really plan to go. You may refuse by saying, “Thank you for inviting me, but I will not be able to come.” If after accepting, you are unable to go, be sure to tell those who are expecting you as soon as possible that you will not be there.
Though it is not necessarily expected that you give a gift to your host, it is considered polite to do so, especially if you have been invited for a meal. Flowers, chocolate, or a small gift are all appropriate (合适的). A thank-you note or telephone call after the visit is also considered polite and is an appropriate way to express your appreciation for the invitation.
21. What can you do when a British friend says “Drop in any time”?
A. Visit him or her at any time. B. Say no time to him or her seriously.
C. Visit him or her soon. D. Telephone him or her before visiting.
22. What does the underlined word “RSVP” probably mean in Chinese?
A. 请自便 B. 请回复 C. 请接受 D. 请来访
23. What should you do if your British friend sends you an invitation but you do not want to go?

①Have you ever imagined a farm where machines do most of the work? Thanks to high technology, farming is changing in amazing ways. Here’s how modern farming works.
②The key to smart farming is special tools and machines. Small machines in the soil check how much water and nutrients the plants need, telling farmers the best time to water or add nutrients. Flying machines go over the fields, taking pictures to find sick plants early. Smart computers in greenhouses change heat and light by themselves, helping vegetables grow faster.
③However, smart farming isn’t without challenges. High-tech machines cost a lot of money. Many small farms can’t afford them. Farmers also need to learn how to use these machines. In places with bad Internet, the smart tools might not work well.
④China is already doing well in this area. In Xinjiang, cotton farms use flying machines to water plants, saving half the water compared to old ways. In Shandong, farmers pick fruits by using smart machines, which work fast but never get tired.
⑤As you can see, high technology is so widely used in farming. We grow more food with less water and land by using smart tools. Will smart machines one day take the place of farmers completely in the future? Probably not—but they’ll certainly make farming easier and greener!

四、(共10分)

Zhang Xue was born into a poor family in a village in Hunan. At the age of 14, he left school and became an apprentice (学徒) in a small motorcycle repair shop. His hands were always covered with oil, but he never gave up his dream—to become a motorcycle racer.
In 2006, at the age of 19, Zhang Xue did something that seemed crazy. He heard that a TV program team was coming to his town, so he called them many times, asking them to film his motorcycle skills. When they came and filmed him, he failed again and again. The team felt disappointed and decided to leave. But Zhang Xue didn’t give up. He rode his old second-hand motorcycle—which was older than himself—for over 100 kilometers through cold rain and winding mountain roads, chasing (追赶) the team’s car for three hours. When he finally caught up, he was wet through and covered in mud. A reporter asked him, “Is being on TV really that important?” He said, “I don’t care about being on TV. I just want a racing team to see me and give me a chance.”
That TV program was shown, and a racing team finally noticed him. Zhang Xue became a professional rider, but life did not become easy overnight. His salary was low, and he often got hurt during training. Once he broke three ribs in a crash, but he returned to the track just two weeks later. “Pain is nothing compared to the feeling of riding a motorcycle,” he said. He kept improving his skills and learning from every failure. Later, he started his own motorcycle brand, but the company almost went bankrupt (破产) twice. Many people advised him to give up, but Zhang Xue refused. He sold his house and borrowed money to keep the company running.
After many ups and downs, in 2026, his motorcycle brand won the world championship in Portugal. When he watched his bike cross the finish line, he cried. It was the first time a Chinese motorcycle brand had won a world championship.
Years later, someone asked Zhang Xue what he was thinking when he chased the TV team’s car in the rain. He smiled and said, “I just wanted to get closer to motorcycles. Because if I didn’t try when I was young, I would regret it when I got old.”

阅读下面的短文,完成下列小题。
