Are you looking for a simple way to get stronger and healthier? Try incline (斜坡) walking. It is a kind of walking exercise. It’s great for all ages and super easy to start.
What’s even better is that incline walking brings you a lot of health benefits. Firstly, it strengthens your muscles and bones. Studies show that incline walking builds important leg muscles, which are key for daily movement. Secondly, it helps manage weight. Research shows that incline walking burns nearly twice as many calories (卡路里) as walking on the flat ground, because your body has to work harder against gravity (重力). It can even help you burn more calories after you stop walking. Thirdly, incline walking may help people with weak knees. It safely raises your heart rate (速率) without putting much stress on your knees. This is quite good for older adults or people with knee problems.
So, how can you do it correctly? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises people to start with 150 minutes of exercise per week — for example,30 minutes per day, five days a week. Beginners should start on a gentle 2% incline at a comfortable rate, raising it by 1-2% each week. Over time, you can safely reach a 7–10% incline. After practicing for several months, you can try the popular “12-3-30” incline exercise: Set your treadmill incline to 12%, then walk for 30 minutes at 3 miles (4.8 km) per hour. To make your walking more enjoyable, try listening to music or watching videos while you walk.
In short, incline walking is a smart and fun way to improve your fitness. Next time you exercise, look for a hill or a treadmill.

Du Mengran is a Chinese deep-sea scientist. Though she looks like a girl next door, her work is amazing. Du has worked at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (中科院) for twelve years. During this time, she has dived more than 30 times in China’s deep-sea submersibles, like Fendouzhe. In May this year, she received the China Youth May Fourth Medal for her amazing discoveries in the deep sea. This medal is China’s top honor for young people.
In 2024, she led a team to the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench, which is over 9,000 meters deep. At9,533 meters, the team saw something wonderful. The dark seabed was covered with long, red worms, moving like corals. Around them were clams and sea anemones. These deep-sea animals survive without sunlight, getting energy from chemicals (化学物质). This discovery was very important. It offered new clues to how life evolved (演变) on Earth.
After this success, in 2025, she went to the Puysegur Trench to explore more. The storms there are very strong, with waves as tall as two-story houses. But Du was brave and did not give up. She waited for the quiet times between the storms and kept diving. “When the pilot asked me why I didn’t back down,” Du wrote in her diary, “I said: the deep sea never turns away a visitor. It is just waiting for eyes curious enough to see.”
Du has many plans for the future. One is to explore the ocean under the polar (极地的) ice. Whatever challenges lie ahead, she said she would meet them with the belief she has carried for years:“I enjoy living with nature, and it always teaches me something new.”

Do you often feel tired during the day? Many teenagers do. And one of the biggest reasons is that they don’t get enough sleep at night. Here is some useful information about sleep.
Why Is Sleep So Important?
Sleep plays an active and important role in our lives. When you sleep, your brain organizes information from the day, helping you remember and learn better. Sleep also helps your brain deal with emotions, so you stay calm under stress. Finally, getting enough sleep keeps your body healthy and helps you perform at your best every day.
How Does Sleep Affect Us?
Poor sleep can cause many problems. First, poor sleep makes us less able to focus in class and remember what we learn. Second, it can affect our feelings. When we don’t get enough sleep, we may feel angry or sad more easily. Finally, poor sleep is also bad for our physical health. Teenagers who don’t sleep well are more likely to have poor eating habits and become overweight.
How Can We Get Better Sleep?
Here are some useful tips to help you sleep better:
□Stick to a schedule. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. This helps set your body’s clock.
□Limit (限制) screen time before bed. Avoid using your phone, pad or computer at least one hour before bedtime. The blue light from screens makes it harder for you to fall asleep.
□Create a sleep-friendly environment. Keep your bedroom cool, quiet, and dark. This will help your body feel sleepy and stay asleep.
□Take short naps (小睡). If you feel very tired during the day, take a quick nap. But don’t nap too late or too long, or it may be harder to fall asleep at night.
In short, sleep is very important for teenagers. Making sleep a priority (优先) will help you feel better, think more clearly, and deal with daily challenges more easily.

These days, some teenagers are putting down their phones and picking up “grandma” hobbies. These old-fashioned activities include knitting (编织), gardening, baking, and sewing (缝纫). And these screen-free activities are becoming popular nowadays.
55 First, social media has made them popular again. Many young people see influencers (网红) gardening or baking bread online and want to try these activities themselves. 56 Instead of watching short videos, they start baking bread. This hands-on activity helps them reduce stress and stay away from screens.
What are the benefits of these hobbies? For one thing, they can actually improve mental health. Studies show that people with hobbies feel less stressed and have fewer negative (消极) emotions. That’s because these activities offer a break from stress. 57 Teens who feel lonely can join a knitting club or a baking class to make new friends.
58 When you knit a scarf or grow a tomato, you can see the results of your work right away. This kind of achievement is very different from schoolwork, where results often take a long time.
59 And who knows — you might find a passion that lasts a lifetime.
A. Another benefit is quick results.
B. Why are teens taking up these hobbies?
C. Second, teens want a break from screens.
