Volunteering Warms Our Life
Last week, I took part in the volunteer activity at the old people’s home. I joined it because I wanted to do something meaningful to help others and learn to care for the elderly.
As a volunteer, I did many things. I sang songs and played music for the old people to cheer them up. I also talked with them and listened to their stories. Some of my classmates helped clean their rooms.
This experience taught me that volunteering is not only about giving help, but also about receiving love and warmth. When I saw the big smiles on their faces, I felt really happy and proud. I will take part in more volunteer activities in the future.

Last summer, I joined a two-week cultural exchange camp in New Zealand. It was my first time to experience foreign culture in person, and it left me an unforgettable lesson about cultural respect.
I lived with a local host family. On my first dinner there, I tried to be polite by picking up food for my host parents as I usually do in China. However, they looked a little surprised and gently refused my kindness. I felt confused and upset at that moment.
Later, the camp teacher explained the reason to me. In New Zealand, people value personal independence. They prefer to choose food by themselves instead of being served by others. My polite behavior in Chinese culture was regarded as unnecessary interference in local culture. I finally understood the cultural misunderstanding.
To solve the problem, I adjusted my behavior quickly. I stopped serving food for others and followed local dining rules. Meanwhile, I actively shared Chinese dining culture with my host family. I told them our manners show respect and care for others. They were interested and praised our warm cultural customs.
During the rest of the camp, I learned more local customs and shared Chinese culture bravely. I made many new friends and realized that cultural differences are not conflicts. With communication and understanding, we can bridge cultural gaps easily.

( ) 30. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?

Sometimes we may have a fever. And it makes us more worried. If we have a fever, there are some things that we can’t do. 36
Don’t drink soda or coffee. “Soda and coffee should be refused when you have a fever,” says Pauline, a doctor in family medicine. They can make us dehydrated (脱水的).
37 “It’s better not to put on too many clothes,” says Dr Marinov. Your body will work harder to change your body temperature to a proper (合适的) one and then it will just make your fever worse.
Don’t take too much medicine. 38 However, if you take too much medicine, you may get into trouble. “Some people take medicine too much and their body is hurt or even some of them lose their lives,” says Dr Marinov.
Don’t stay hungry. “A fever makes your metabolism (新陈代谢) faster. You need something more from food,” says Dr Marinov. 39 Food lets you have more energy to get better when you have a fever.
Don’t forget to drink water. “A fever will quicken the respiratory rate (呼吸频率), so there’s water loss. 40 It will finally cause serious dehydration. Drinking enough water can solve the problem well,” says Ralph, director of scientific research.
根据材料内容,从下面五个选项中选出能填入文中空缺处的最佳选项,使短文意思通顺、内容完整。
A. Don’t wear too much.
