Hi Yaming,
How’s everything going? I know you’re planning a trip during the summer vacation. Let me share some advice with you.
More people now choose short trips close to home instead of traveling far away. Why? Because they want to enjoy local life and relax. You don’t need to rush from place to place. Just take your time and feel the peace.
My friend Lin Keya from Urumqi, Xinjiang, spent a few days in a village nearby for May Day this year. It was only a two-hour drive. There, she woke up to the sounds of roosters and slept peacefully under the moonlight. “Although I was tired, being in nature saved my soul (灵魂),” She said.
Another traveler, Ms. Peng, travelled with her family from Guiyang to Leshan. She said short trips gave them more time to enjoy the place so that they could truly relax. Busy sightseeing tours only touch the surface — deep trips are much more meaningful.
Also, China’s high-speed trains now go to many cities. This makes short trips much easier, especially for older travelers.
So, why not try a short trip this time? I’m sure you’ll love it!
Yours,
Tina

Amy, 15, loved reading her first-aid book. One day, while walking down the road, she saw Roy, a boy in this village, trying to stand on a horse’s back. Suddenly, Roy fell heavily to the ground. The other kids ran towards him and didn’t know what to do. Amy rushed over and saw that one of his legs was out of shape—a broken leg!
She remembered what the first-aid book said. First, she called to one of the boys, “Victor! Go to get Roy’s mama, and find someone with a truck!” Then she turned to the others. “Give me your shirts. We need something to tie his leg with.” Amy found a strong, straight stick nearby. She carefully wrapped (缠绕) the shirts around Roy’s leg and the stick to hold it still (静止不动). Roy cried out in pain. “I know it hurts,” Amy said softly, “but this will keep it still until you get to the hospital.”
Soon Roy’s mother arrived with a truck, and they carefully lifted him in. The next day, Betty, the village nurse, came to Amy’s home. “I heard what you did,” Betty said with a smile. “You kept a clear head in an emergency. “Put on your winter coat! You’ll catch a cold!” I don’t know how many times my mom said this to me when I was a kid. I’d often go outside, even during cold winter months, wearing just a light jacket.
Of course, the idea that cold weather can make you sick is not completely true. After all, the things that really make you sick are germs and viruses (病毒). But I have noticed that in China, people always make sure to wear lots of clothes when it’s cold outside.
Since I came to China, many strangers, especially elderly people, have asked me why I don’t wear more. They think I wear too little during the winter.
I guess this might have something to do with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) beliefs (信仰). There is a TCM term called yuanqi, which means the basic energy that helps one’s body work and stay healthy. Anything that uses too much of this energy is not good. If you don’t wear enough clothing in cold weather, your body will have to use more energy to keep you warm. So Chinese people wear more clothes to stay warm and save energy.
But I still don’t like to wear too much clothing, even when it’s cold. I get hot very easily—I even sweat (汗) during winter months if my coat is too warm. I haven’t got sick because of this yet, so I don’t think I need to worry too much.
31. What did the writer’s mother often tell him to do when he was a kid?
A. To wear a light jacket in winter.
B. To go outside more often during cold months.
C. To put on a thick winter coat to avoid catching a cold.
32. What really causes people to get sick according to the passage?
A. Cold weather. B. Germs and viruses. C. Wearing too little.
33. Why do Chinese people wear lots of clothes in winter?
A. To save energy. B. To look good. C. To avoid sweat.
34. What can we infer (推断) about the writer from the last paragraph?
A. His own experience shows he is right.
B. He agrees with the Chinese dressing habits.
C. He has changed his habit after coming to China.
35. What is the main idea of the story?
A. The ways to avoid colds.
B. Cultural differences in winter clothing.
C. Misunderstandings of Chinese culture.
【答案】31. C 32. B 33. A 34. A 35. B

Today, many young people prefer watching movies to reading original (原版) books. ____50____ Movies can show us beautiful pictures, but they cannot replace the deep thoughts and feelings that come from words. As the famous saying goes, “A classic is a book that people praise but never stop reading.”

C. Modern technology has changed the way we read books.
D. It helps us understand the history and culture of a country.

In Northwest China lies the Taklamakan Desert — a huge golden sand sea covering 337,000 square kilometers. For centuries, the desert spread slowly, eating up fields and houses. Its strong winds covered villages with sand and forced farmers to leave their homelands. Now, local farmers and workers are planting a “green wall” — thousands of kilometers of trees, bushes and grass, to stop the desert growing. These plants act like glue, keeping the sand in place. This sand-fixing planting is turning the desert into a green wall. Rows of the green wall have now stopped 70% of moving sand in some areas. Farmers even grow wheat (小麦) and fruit behind the green wall, bravely fighting the desert’s terrible living conditions.
Workers use smart ways to fight the desert. For example, drones (无人机) fly over far-away places, dropping seeds (种子) and carrying water to help plants grow. Moreover, electronic tools under the ground check how wet the soil is all the time, like doctors keeping records of patients’ health. When it’s time to water, they send messages to farmers’ phones. At the same time, underground pipes transport water carefully to avoid waste. These technologies offer all the farmers a high level of service.
The green wall also brings life back. Birds return to their homes among the plants. Small animals like rabbits and insects find cover in the growing green spaces. China plans to build this wall across the whole of the Taklamakan. If it is successful, other desert countries may learn from it. Each seed planted becomes a brave fighter in the quiet war against the sand. Where nothing grew before, hope grows like a seed — a living wall whispers (低语), “This land will survive.”

B. 任务型阅读 (共5小题,每小题2分,计10分)
根据短文内容,按要求回答问题。
Inside the hall, the door was shut, and the key lay on the glass table. Poor Alice, who was about one foot high after taking some drink, found a cake on the floor. She went up and soon ate all the cake.
“How strange! How tall I am!” said Alice. She looked down at her feet — they seemed so far off. In fact, she was now over nine feet high, which meant she still couldn’t get through the door. She sat down, and had a good cry till there was a large pool all round her.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of feet not far off. It was the Rabbit that had come back, with a fan in his hand. Alice felt so in need of help from someone, that when he came near, she called out, “If you please, sir…” The Rabbit started as if shot, dropped the fan and ran off as fast as possible.
Alice picked up the fan and as the hall was hot, she fanned herself. “Dear, dear! How strange all things are today! I do wish to get out of the hall; I am tired of this place! ” she said.
Then she noticed herself in the glass — she was now not more than two feet high, and still shrinking quite fast. That was the fan! She realized this and dropped it at once, or she would shrink to the size of an ant soon.
Alice was in a sad fear at the quick change. “Things are worse,” said the poor girl, “I was never so small as this. How can I get out?” As she said these words, she lost her footsteps and was up to her chin (下巴) in salt water — her own tears.
Just then Alice noticed a mouse swimming towards her.
“Will it be useful now to speak to this mouse? All things are so strange here. I should think maybe it can talk. At least there’s no harm to try.” So she swam up.

Hi Yaming,
How’s everything going?
Yours,
Tina
21. Who wrote this letter and who was it for?

B. They are deep and meaningful.
C. They don’t help enjoy a place and relax fully.
24. What makes short trips easy?
A. Much more time. B. High-speed trains. C. Cheap hotels in villages.
25. What does the writer mainly want to tell Yaming?
A. To tell a story about a short trip.
B. To give advice on short trips.
C. To introduce the convenience of Chinese trains.
B
That’s a very important skill.” Amy’s face turned red. She realized that learning first aid from books could truly help people in real life.
