Sometimes, our minds can get mixed up. We may have a mountain of homework or we may not get along well with a friend. What’s more, from time to time, we may even feel sad about how we look. This feeling about our bodies is called body image, and it can affect our mental (心理的) health.
In Katowice, Poland, expert Kamila Czepczor-Bernat and her team studied how nature affects body image. They found that walking in the snow helps!
“We have already known that nature is good for our minds and bodies,” said Czepczor-Bernat. “We want to see if spending time in a snowy environment can also help people feel better about their bodies.”
To do this, they asked 87 women to take a walk in a snowy forest. Then they asked the women how they felt about their bodies before and after the walk. They found that the women felt better about their bodies after the walk. Spending time in the snow made them happier!
Earlier studies had shown that green spaces, like parks, and blue environments, like rivers, can improve body image. But this was the first time that snowy places were found to help. Czepczor-Bernat was very happy with the results. “Spending time in nature is good for us, even in winter!” she said.
