Are you tired of seeing the same problems in your neighbourhood every day? For example, there are too many cars, holes in the road, or pictures on the walls… Do you want your neighbourhood to be a better place to live? Don’t wait for someone else to do something. The best person to make the change is YOU!
StreetWorks is a charity (慈善组织) that helps you help your neighbourhoods. We give you support and advice at every step, and we are completely free. Here are some examples of projects that StreetWorks has already helped with.
Street libraries
People on Tamworth Street in London started their own library! There are shelves of books in an old phone booth (棚), and anyone can take one and leave another.
Slow zones (区域)
People in some towns did not like cars driving too fast in their streets. So they told the local government about the problem. Now there is a 20mph speed limit in the whole neighbourhood.
Fun runs
Many communities have organized running races. These races help raise money for the local area. Then the community decides how to use the money.

Do you know why the Earth is called the “Blue Planet”? Because up to 70% of its surface is covered by water! However, there are still millions of people who have to walk for over half an hour to get clean water. Why is it so difficult for them to get clean water? Will we run out of (用完) water one day?
Most of the water on Earth is too salty for us to use. In fact, only 2.5% of the water on our planet is fresh water. However, we are not able to use all of it. For example, we can’t get fresh water from rocks deep underground. In the end, the fresh water that we can use is only about 0. 007% of the water on Earth!
Luckily, our planet is very good at holding on water. When water turns into water vapor (蒸气), it doesn’t run off into space. Since the atmosphere (大气层) is very cold, the water vapor freezes and falls back to the ground.
The amount of fresh water on Earth stays about the same. However, the number of people on this planet is growing quickly. So, more and more people won’t get clean water. If we don’t change the way we use water, this will become even worse in the future.
