At Lingyun School, the sports day was coming soon. Lily, Tom, Amy, and David were on the class’s 4×100-meter relay (接力) team. But they argued (争吵) about their 1 from the very beginning.
Lily, the fastest runner, wanted to run the last leg (棒) to be the hero, while Tom thought he must run 2 to decide the starting speed. At the same time, Amy kept asking them to practise passing the stick, but nobody listened.
David kept quiet in the corner, 3 about making mistakes.
While they were practising, some 4 happened. Lily dropped the stick when passing it. Tom didn’t run as they planned, so the next runner couldn’t 5 the stick. They started to argue again and stopped practising.
Then PE teacher Mr. Zhang came over and said, “To 6 the race, we should work together as a team! Teamwork means more than just one person being the best. 7 each other.” After hearing that, they all changed. Amy showed an easy way to pass the stick 8 . David suggested that they shouldn’t slow down in the middle. Lily changed her mind and ran the second leg for the team.
On the race day, they shouted “Go!” for each other. Because of 9 passing and harmonious (协调一致的) running, they won second place! When we 10 everyone’s good points and listen to each other’s ideas, we become stronger. True power lies in listening and working together as one.

Have you ever seen a little penguin wearing a sweater? It sounds impossible, but it is true! Actually, a terrible accident long ago led to this.
In the late 1990s, a big oil spill (石油泄漏) happened near Phillip Island, Australia. Thousands of penguins were covered in thick oil. Though rescuers saved them, the penguins became weak. That is because penguins usually use their beaks (喙) to clean their feathers (羽毛). When oil sticks to them, they take in some harmful chemicals. Besides, oil makes their feathers fail to keep warm. Cold penguins cannot swim or hunt for food, which makes them weak, cold, and even lose their lives.
To solve this problem, the Penguin Foundation started a caring program. They called on people to make wool sweaters. These sweaters do three things: keep penguins warm, stop them from eating oil, and allow rescuers to clean them safely.
In addition, the sweaters must follow strict rules:
·Use 100% wool (other materials harm penguins);
·Make size 30cm × 40cm;
·No decorations or other things.
The penguin sweater program has been running for over 20 years. During this time, kind-hearted people worldwide have sent over 200,000 sweaters! With their help, 96% of rescued penguins have successfully returned to the wild. Today, the program keeps preparing sweaters even when no new oil spills happen.
16.What made the penguins wear sweaters?
A.The cold weather. B.An accident. C.A TV programme. D.Their interest.

A.They could not use their beaks. B.They didn’t get any help.
C.They faced the danger of death. D.They forgot how to swim.
18.How do the sweaters help the penguins?
①keep them warm ②stop them eating oil
③make them lovely ④help safely clean them
A.①②③ B.②③④ C.①②④ D.①③④
19.Which sweater follows the rules?
A. B. C. D.
20.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Oil spills used to happen every year.
B.The program stopped making sweaters.
C.More than 200,000 people gave a hand.
D.The program is popular and works well.

①In today’s world, scientists are developing innovative (创新的) solutions to environmental problems. Let’s explore three groundbreaking ones.
② Engineers in Amsterdam have invented a new birdhouse. It has computers inside and is powered by solar panels on its roof. When the air is clean enough, the birdhouse turns green and provides free WiFi to people nearby. If the air gets polluted, it turns red. People love this idea. They ride bikes more, so the air gets cleaner and they get free internet.
③In Chile’s dry desert areas, getting clean water is not easy. Scientists created a smart machine. It takes water from the air and works like this: when warm air touches its cold surface, water drops form — just like on a cold drink can. The machine collects the water and cleans it. One such machine can produce enough water each day for a family of four to drink. Best of all, it uses solar power, so it works even in places without electricity.
④A famous British band had cool ideas for their concerts (演唱会). They installed (安装) special floors on stage called “Kinetic floors”. The floors can make electricity when fans dance. The band also offer fans exercise bikes to ride, and this helped power the show! At one concert, the electricity fans made was enough to power 300 homes for an hour! Now, many other bands are following these cool ideas.
21.What can the birdhouse in Amsterdam do?
A.Test the air quality. B.Provide solar power.
C.Check WiFi speed. D.Make weather reports.
22.Why did the writer mention “a cold drink can” in paragraph 3?
A.To compare cold drinks with hot ones.
B.To show how the smart machine works.
C.To test the readers on what water cycle is.
D.To describe water shortage in desert areas.
23.What do the first two inventions have in common?
A.They make electricity. B.They clean polluted water.
C.They use solar energy. D.They reduce air pollution.
24.Which poster BEST matches the concerts according to paragraph 4?
A. B. C. D.
25.What is the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
D
Saving electricity can help stop the earth getting warmer and save money. Changing your habits is a good way to use less electricity. 26
Enjoy natural light. Open the window and let the sunshine in! Also, try to use natural light whenever possible. 27 The same is true when you work in an office. Natural light also makes you happier.
28 This is the easiest, most convenient way to save electricity, and it really works. Start paying attention to how many lights are on in your house at any time. Think about how many lights you really need to be using at once. When you leave a room, make a habit of turning off the lights.
Use less hot water. Heating water takes a lot of energy. It is not necessary to take cold showers, but paying attention to how much hot water you use, and how the water is heated, can save a lot of electricity and money. 29
Use the air conditioner only when needed. Sometimes it is necessary to use the air conditioner, but there is no reason to have it on from the beginning of spring to the end of summer without ever turning it off. 30 Doing so can save much electricity.
A.Turn off the lights.
B.Turn on the air conditioner in summer.
C.For example, take showers instead of baths.
D.Find other ways to cool yourself down when possible.
E.Here is some advice on how to save electricity at home.
F.This can greatly lower the amount of electricity you use during the day.
