Each spring, as strong winds sweep across the dry Gobi Desert in northwestern China, crowds of young volunteers travel to remote sandy areas to participate in local desert control work. In recent years, this voluntary practice has grown increasingly popular among Chinese young people, who are willing to step out of comfortable urban life and devote themselves to public ecological projects.
Minqin County in Gansu Province, surrounded by two major deserts, has long been threatened by frequent sandstorms and shrinking grassland. For decades, local residents have made continuous efforts to prevent desert expansion. What marks a new turning point is the massive participation of young volunteers from across the country, whose enthusiasm and energy have greatly promoted local ecological restoration.
Zhong Lin, a college graduate born in Minqin, chose to return to his hometown in 2021 rather than seeking a job in big cities. Aware that completely transforming deserts into farmland was impractical, he still believed that every tree planted served in protecting the existing fragile(脆弱的) ecosystem. He has since organized voluntary tree-planting activities and encouraged more young people to engage in desert protection.
Working in the desert is physically exhausting. Volunteers are exposed to burning sunshine, dry weather and frequent sandstorms. Water shortage also makes it hard for newly planted saplings(幼苗) to survive. Despite the severe living and working conditions, most young volunteers feel rewarded. They regard the tough experience as a precious opportunity to cultivate perseverance and social responsibility, which they can hardly gain from ordinary school life.
Beyond improving the local environment, the volunteer movement reflects a positive change among Chinese youth. Modern young people are increasingly willing to take on social responsibilities, pursue meaningful experiences, and contribute their strength to environmental protection.
24. Why is the participation of young volunteers regarded as a game changer?
A. It has ended the threat of sandstorms in Minqin.
B. It has brought new force to ecological protection.
C. It has persuaded locals to give up traditional ways of living.
D. It has completely changed the local ecological situation.
25. The underlined word “served” in Paragraph 3 most probably means ?
A. played a part B. waited on others
C. lasted for long D. moved forward
26. What do we know about Zhong Lin from the passage?
A. He aims to turn the whole desert into farmland in the future.
B. He thinks individual efforts matter to ecosystem protection.
C. He gave up his well-paid job in big cities to do volunteer work.
D. He doubts whether tree-planting can protect local environment.
27. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Planting Hope in the Sands B. Building Dreams in the Sands
C. Sowing Seeds in the Desert D. Discovering Beauty in the Sands
C
You had to be really unlucky to be on the China National Highway 110 on August 14, 2025. One of the longest traffic jams on record, trapping thousands of vehicles over more than 100 kilometers and lasting more than 10 days. Would it make you impatient? I strongly suspect that even the calmest would answer with a resounding “yes”! And yet philosophers and poets alike sell patience as a “virtue”, implying that having it is always a good thing. To me, it’s far more useful to think about patience as something we do rather than something we have.
Consider first what it means to be impatient. We all know the feeling: fingers drumming the table, leg bouncing. But why does this frustrating feeling arise? Most emotion researchers take it as a functionalist perspective. Our mind and body are trying to tell us to get moving, to find a way to bring the unpleasant delay to an end.
In a series of recent studies with more than 1, 400 participants, we found that people were more impatient when the thing they were waiting for was very appealing—and when the wait itself was unappealing. Being delayed for something you hate, such as an unpleasant work event, is easier than a similar delay for a much-anticipated performance by your favorite band.
If impatience is an emotion, what is patience? In technical terms, it’s a form of emotion regulation like reminding ourselves that the scary movie isn’t real. When we start to feel impatient, we can let that feeling rage—or we can regulate it. Are you waiting weeks to find out if you have got that job? Dive into your favorite hobby to distract yourself for a few hours.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about patience, including why some people seem to find it easier than others and how we can get better at it. Fortunately, those are simpler questions to answer when we reduce the challenge from virtue acquisition to emotion regulation,
Ultimately, it may seem like a sharp contrast to poetic descriptions of virtue, but I’ll take practical wisdom over virtue any day.
28. What is the author’s attitude to people’s impatience in traffic jams on the National Highway 110?
A. Understanding. B. Dismissive. C. Indifferent. D. Critical.
29. According to the text, which of the following situations would make people the most impatient?
A. Being stuck in a traffic jam in a comfortable car.
B. Being delayed by bad weather on the way to work.
C. Waiting for an important but unpleasant work meeting.
D. Waiting in a long queue for an expected football game.
30. The author views patience as ___________
A. an acquired virtue B. a born personality
C. a form of releasing emotion D. a behavior of regulating emotion
31. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To justify a virtue. B. To redefine patience.
C. To introduce strategies. D. To identify impatience.

Drug development has long been known as a high-risk and high-cost process. On average, only one in every ten drug candidates that enter human trials eventually reaches the market. The journey from initial discovery to a marketable drug often spans 10 to 15 years, and the cost for a single drug is estimated at roughly$2.8 billion. This high risk and cost, coupled with the eventual loss of patent protection, creates constant pressure on drug companies to find the next breakthrough treatment.
In recent years, generative AI has begun to change this picture. The drug industry is rapidly adopting AI technologies that can analyse massive biological data sets. These AI tools can identify promising drug targets and propose novel molecules(分子)that might interact with them. They can also screen libraries of data to predict the effectiveness and safety of candidates before any lab work begins. In addition, they can improve clinical trials by analysing health records to identify patients most likely to benefit from new treatments. Although the technology is still developing, early signs suggest it could make drug discovery faster, cheaper and more competitive.
One encouraging result is seen in early-stage trials.AI-designed molecules have shown success rates of 80-90% in early-stage safety tests, far higher than the historical average of 40-65%. AI is also improving efficiency in other areas of the industry, from clinical paperwork to human resources. Some analysts estimate that the drug industry can gain up to $110 billion each year if AI is fully used.
The rise of AI is transforming how the drug industry works. AI-native biotech businesses are emerging, especially in the U.S. and China. Drug firms are partnering with these biotech companies and also with tech giants like Amazon, Google and Microsoft. Some tech firms are even developing platforms to design drugs entirely through computer simulations. For instance, Google’s AlphaFold has already solved complex problems regarding protein structures.
However, challenges remain. Governments may need to speed up regulatory reviews as the number of drug candidates increases. Patient data sharing must also be encouraged in privacy-protecting ways. Furthermore, patent rules may require adjustment if AI reduces the cost and risk of innovation. AI brings good news for medicine, but ensuring it benefits both drugmakers and patients requires the industry and regulators to adjust to this new reality.
32. What is the primary challenge for traditional drug companies?
A. The shortage of breakthrough treatments.
B. Inability to discover effective drug candidates.
C. Limited access to cutting-edge research technologies.
D. Long duration and economic burdens of drug development.
33. From paragraph 2, how does AI benefit clinical trials?
A. By designing new molecules. B. By helping select suitable patients.
C. By discovering new effective drugs. D. By detecting proper drug targets.
34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. AI-driven changes in the drug industry.
B. The rise of AI-native biotech firms.
C. Google’s achievements in protein structures.
D. Tech giants’ partnerships with drugmakers.
35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Patent rules are fixed for AI innovation.
B. Faster reviews can protect patient data privacy.
C. Policies should be revised for the benefits from AI.
D. Advanced systems are essential for drug innovation.

What Can We Learn from Broken Things?
In my spare time, I’m a keen photographer. A while ago, my most treasured camera fell, breaking its back screen and buttons but its basic functions stayed fine. 36 . I decided not to repair it and have enjoyed this damaged state ever since.
Things break unavoidably, but brokenness brings totally different feelings. I genuinely like my broken camera and even take pride in using it, yet an unfixable door handle and the kitchen halogen(卤素) light that keeps going dark and is impractical to repair feed my sense of being burdened and middle-aged. 37 . A broken thing is a cracked mirror showing various reflections of a person.
38 . Japan’s wabi-sabi aesthetic(美学)values it: a shattered(碎的)teacup is mended with gold-mixed coating to fill cracks, turning it into a symbol of persistence and acceptance. German philosopher Martin Heidegger noted two ways we relate to objects: a working doorknob is used unthinkingly (“ready-to-hand”), while a broken one makes us examine and fix it (“present-at-hand”). 39 . This applies to social rules or relationships too, we find out their true nature only when they break.
Brokenness also pushes self-reflection. My wife’s uncle Bill, who grew up in the Depression, had two broken TVs (one no picture, one no sound) placed on top of each other to watch programs and used books to hold up his armchair’s broken footrest, refusing a new one. 40 .
Ultimately, broken things teach us about our broken selves. We might see our inner difficulties more positively. Adopting wabi-sabi for plans, memories, and self-conceptions helps. We benefit, occasionally, from accidents that seem unfortunate at first.
A. There are philosophies of brokenness.
B. Brokenness can have a variety of meanings.
C. This shows accepting broken things ties to self-acceptance.
D. Living with a broken thing becomes a challenge to overcome.
E. Still, fixing my son’s toy airplane to delight him brings true anticipation.
F. Broken things are often “there” for us in ways that working things aren’t.
G. Surprisingly, without advanced features, it became less distracting and more fun.

Elvis was a dog with a big personality. If there was a chance to be silly, he would take it without hesitation. He loved hiding toys, spinning in dizzy circles beneath the old oak tree while chasing squirrels, and running away just far enough to make people chase him. Whenever he put on one of his little performances, Mrs. Carter, the lady next door, would lean over the fence, watching the naughty dog and shaking her head. Yet all it took to turn this little rebel into a perfect gentleman was a spoonful of peanut butter(花生酱)or his old tennis ball.
Watching his playful nature every day, his owner Mikaela thought it might be fun to capture the world from Elvis’s point of view. So one day she bought a small GoPro camera(运动相机)and a special harness that a dog could wear. She imagined Elvis running happily while the camera recorded his little adventures.
Mikaela was excited to try it, but Elvis turned out to be even more excited. On a sunny afternoon, golden light spilled across the yard, catching the edges of the bushes. The old oak tree cast shifting shadows on the grass, and arow of wildflowers swayed gently by the fence. Mikaela took Elvis outside to play and brought out the new camera. The moment Elvis saw the shiny little device, his eyes sparkled. Mikaela had barely held it out before Elvis snatch edit away as quickly as a shark grabbing its food. “Oh no, not again!” Mrs. Carter called out from behind the fence.
Before Mikaela could react, Elvis was racing across the yard with the GoPro in his mouth. “ Hey! Elvis!” Mikaela shouted, running after him. But the more she chased him, the faster he ran. And the GoPro just stayed on the whole time!

Version 1
My Views on Fragmented Reading
Nowadays, fragmented reading-scrolling through short videos or browsing brief articles-has become increasingly popular. In my opinion, this trend has both advantages and disadvantage
On the positive side, fragmented reading saves time and allows us to acquire information quickly in our busy schedules. With just a smartphone, we can access diverse knowledge anytime, anywhere. However, the drawbacks are equally obvious. Constant exposure to short, scattered content weakens our ability to focus and think deeply. We may become accustomed to superficial understanding rather than genuine comprehension.
Personally, I believe fragmented reading should serve as a supplement, not a substitute, for traditional in-depth reading. While it satisfies our need for quick information, we should also reserve time for reading books that require sustained attention and reflection.
Version 2
My Views on Fragmented Reading
Fragmented reading, characterized by scrolling through short videos and brief articles, dominates our daily lives. From my perspective, though convenient, this reading style does more harm than good.
Admittedly, fragmented reading offers efficiency. We can grasp news highlights or learn practical tips within minutes. Yet the problems cannot be ignored. Firstly, it fragments our attention span, making it increasingly difficult to concentrate on longer texts. Secondly, the information obtained is often shallow and disconnected, failing to build a systematic knowledge structure.
Therefore, my attitude is clear: while we may occasionally benefit from fragmented reading for quick updates, we should prioritize deep reading of complete works. Only by immersing ourselves in books can we truly develop critical thinking and gain profound insights. Let's not sacrifice depth for speed.
One Possible Version
Paragraph 1:
Mikaela chased after him, worried a lot. The sight of his ears flapping wildly like two little flags was almost too much to bear. For fear that Elvis might chew the camera to pieces, she picked up her speed. But the dog ran even faster towards the bushes, with the GoPro clutched in his jaws, its red recording light still blinking.Huffing and puffing, Mikaela was about to pause for a break when Mrs. Carter entered the yard. “I think you need this,” remarked Mrs. Carter, passing her a jar of peanut butter. Mikaela grabbed the jar and walked over to the bushes. Peanut butter in hand, she crouched down and waved it at Elvis. “Hey buddy, trade?” The dog tilted his head, as if weighing his options. Then he bounded toward his owner and dropped the camera.
Paragraph 2:
When Mikaela finally got the camera, she quickly checked it. Thankfully, the camera was in good condition. While going through the recordings, she couldn't help smiling. Never in her wildest dreams could she imagine that she would achieve her goal in such an unexpected way. The footage was shaky but wonderful -blurry grass, sudden turns, and half of her body. She really saw the world from Elvis's height: the bushes towering like forests, the oak tree's leaves dancing above, the wildflowers swaying in the breeze. Every frame bounced with his joyful energy. Beside her, Elvis lay on his back, paws in the air, demanding a belly rub. Mikaela took the opportunity to fit the harness around his neck and secure the camera to it. "Go for your adventures and enjoy your big world, my Elvis."

M: True. Our busiest day is when people apply for their ID cards.
Text 4
W: How about we ask the driver where to go before we get off the bus? (4)

W: How many spheres are there? (7)
M: Nine in total. Only six are open to the public, one of which is rented by private businesses and closed to ordinary visitors. (7)

W: Yes, but Mr. McCollin texted everyone saying that his lecture will be given two hours later than scheduled, (8) (9) because he has another lecture 30 minutes later.
M: Oh, I missed that text. I only checked my email. Oh, wait. I have a social studies exam from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (10)
W: You should give Mr. McCollin a call to explain, or you may get points taken off your class grade. (10)
M: I’ll do that right away. (10) Thanks for reminding me.
M: Joanna, can we talk for a moment? I received a rather disturbing message from you during our morning meeting. I didn’t report it and thought we could iron it out ourselves. (11)
W: Hold on. What are you talking about? I didn’t send you anything.
M: Look. Here it is.
W: Oh, it was sent via Line. I do have this app installed on my phone, but I never use it during work.
M: The linked number is 408-917-7287. Isn’t it yours?
W: Yes. That’s odd. My account must have been illegally accessed. Fortunately, none of my social media or bank accounts are tied to it.
M: Well, that’s a relief. The confusion has been cleared up. I use a security app with two-factor authentication. You should also use it to prevent similar situations from happening again. (12)
W: Good idea. Send me the download link, please. (12)

W: Derek, have you thought about what you will do after graduation? (14) I left a college brochure on your desk. Have you leafed it through?
M: Yes. But honestly, I’m thinking of taking a gap year before getting back into studying. (14) (15)
W: Well, I don’t mind since I did the same thing when I was your age. (15) So, what’s your plan for the gap year then? Get a part-time job?
M: I want to travel somewhere far away. I’ve calculated the cost of living in South America, and I’m sure my savings can keep me going halfway through the year there. (14)
W: Interesting. What if I cover your travel expenses for three months? After you get back, you can learn a practical trade. You can choose to learn cooking, carpentry, or even plumbing. (16)
M: That’s a great idea. I’ve always liked working with wood. I can get certified first and then go to university with a fresh mind.

A篇
根据 Don’t miss 部分“B Tang dynasty figures (From the tomb of a general),Room 33(唐代人物雕像(出自一位将军的墓葬),第33号展厅2)”以及Gallery closures “* Rooms 7,9, 10, 19, 20 and 33 are open 11:00-15:00 on Monday, Thursday and Sunday.(7号、9号、10号、19号、20号和33号房间周一、周四和周日的开放时间是11:00至15:00)”可知,对于对中国文化感兴趣的游客来说,最佳参观时间是周日的12点。
根据依据地图标注,从主入口先到A(2a,最右侧),再到G(1,A上方),接着到D(24,G左上方),然后C(331,D上方)、B(332,C右侧),之后下到E(4,西侧中间),最后到F(10,西侧偏下)。
根据 Useful information for families部分You can leave fold-up pushchairs in the cloakroom(寄存处)free of charge.(你可以将可折叠的婴儿车存放在寄存处,免费保管)可知,博物馆为家庭游客提供折叠式婴儿车可免费存放。
“What marks a new turning point is the massive participation of young volunteers from across the country, whose enthusiasm and energy have greatly promoted local ecological restoration”,
根据 “every tree planted served in protecting the existing fragile
B项 “waited on others”,C项“lasted for long”,D项“moved
“he still believed that every tree planted served in protecting the existing fragile ecosystem”, J推断出钟林认为个体的努力对生态保护是有意义的,因此B项符合文意。A项与原文“completely transforming deserts into farmland was impractical”相7: C项中“well-paid job”在文中无依据:项与原文钟林积极投身治沙、相信植树护生态的态度相反,故排除。
故选A。
根据第三段中的“we found that people were more impatient when the thing they were waiting for was very appealing-and when the wait itself was unappealing”可知,当等待的目标非常吸引人,且等待过程本身令人不悦时,人们会更不耐烦。
根据第四段的第二句“In technical terms, it’s a form of emotion regulation ...”可知,在技术层面定义,耐心是一种情绪调节的形式;根据本段最后一句“Dive into your favorite hobby to distract yourself for a few hours."
Drug development has long been known as a high-risk and high-cost process. On average, only one in every ten drug candidates that enter human trials eventually reaches the market. The journey from initial discovery to a marketable drug often spans 10 to15 years, and the cost for a single drug is estimated at roughly $2.8 billion. This high risk and cost, coupled with the eventual loss of patent protection, creates constant pressure on drug companies to find the next breakthrough treatment.(药物开发长期以来被认为是一项高风险、高成本的过程。
In recent years, generative AI has begun to change this picture. The drug industry is rapidly adopting AI technologies that can analyse massive biological data sets. These Al tools can identify promising drug targets and propose novel molecules (子) that might interact with them. They can also screen libraries of data to predict the effectiveness and safety of candidates before any lab work begins. In addition, they can improve clinical trials by analysing health records to identify patients most likely to benefit from new treatments.Although the technology is still developing, early signs suggest it could make drug discovery faster, cheaper and more competitive.(近年来,生成式人工智能(AI)开始改变这一局面。
The rise of AI is transforming how the drug industry works.Al-native biotech businesses are emerging, especially in the U.S.and China.Drug firms are partnering with these biotech companies and also with tech giants like Amazon, Google and Microsoft. Some tech firms are even developing platforms to design drugs entirely through computer simulations. For instance, Google's AlphaFold has already solved complex problems regarding protein structures.(人工智能的兴起正在改变制药行业的运作方式。
However, challenges remain.Governments may need to speed up regulatory reviews as the number of drug candidates increases.Patient data sharing must also be encouraged in privacy-protecting ways.Furthermore, patent rules may require adjustment if Al reduces the cost and risk of innovation.Al brings good news for medicine, but ensuring it benefits both drugmakers and patients requires the industry and regulators to adjust to this new reality.(然而,挑战依然存在。
设空处上文提到my most treasured
camera fell, breaking its back screen and buttons but its basic functions stayed fine,下文则指出I decided not to repair it and have enjoyed this damaged state ever since。 Surprisingly, without advanced features, it became less distracting and more fun既呼应上文screen and buttons broken,又以Surprisingly引出“更有趣”的积极体验,为下文“不维修且享受”提供理由,与上下文形成“损坏→意外优势→接受”的递进关系,故选G项。
door handle and the kitchen halogen light... feed my sense of being burdened and middle-aged但无法修复的门把手和厨房卤素灯,加重了我的负担感和中年焦虑;下文则总结A broken thing is a cracked mirror showing various reflections of a person破碎的事物如一面破碎的镜子,能映照出人的多面性,暗示“破碎事物也有正面意义”。 Still, fixing my son’s toy airplane to delight him brings true anticipation中,Still表转折,brings true anticipation体现“破碎事物的正面体验”,与上文burdened形成对比,且契合下文various reflections,故选E项。
Japan’s
wabi-sabi aesthetic values it... turning it into a symbol of persistence and acceptance(日本侘寂美学珍视破碎,将修复的茶杯视为坚持与接纳的象征)和German philosopher Martin Heidegger noted two ways we relate to objects(德国哲学家海德格尔提出人与物品的两种关系),均围绕破碎的哲学观点展开。 There are philosophies of brokenness(存在关于破碎的哲学理论)中,philosophies直接统领下文侘寂美学和海德格尔观点,与下文构成“总述哲学存在→分述具体哲学观点”的总分关系,故选A项。
设空处上文提到a working doorknob is used unthinkingly (‘ready-to-hand’), while a broken one makes us examine and fix it (‘present-at-hand’),核心是“损坏物品比完好物品更易被关注”;下文则延伸This applies to social rules or relationships too, we find out their true nature only when they break,This指代上文损坏物品的特性。 Broken things are often‘there’ for us in ways that working things aren’t(损坏的事物往往以完好事物不具备的方式“存在”于我们的认知中)中,‘there’ for us呼应上文makes us examine and fix it,准确概括“损坏物品更易被感知”的理论核心,且Broken things...
Uncle Bill...had two broken TVs... placed on top of each other to watch programs and used books to hold up his armchair’s broken footrest, refusing a new one,案例核心是“接受破碎事物,不追求完美”;本段小标题为Brokenness also pushes self-reflection,设空处需总结案例意义,衔接“破碎”与“自我反思”的主旨。C项This shows accepting broken things ties to self-acceptance(这表明接受破碎事物与自我接纳相关)中,This指代比尔叔叔的案例,ties to self-acceptance直接呼应self-reflection(自我反思的深层是自我接纳),将接受破碎物品的行为升华到自我认知层面,与上下文形成“案例→总结→主旨”的顺承关系,故选C项。

固定搭配 a display of…,表示 “…… 的一次展示”,a remarkable display of conservation success 意为 “一次卓越的保护成果展示”,用 of 体现所属关系。

Elvis:顽皮(naughty)、机灵(quick)、爱表演(put on performances)、贪吃(peanut butter)。
Mrs. Carter:
伏笔与线索:“The GoPro just stayed on the whole time!”
Paragraph 1
开头:Mikaela chased after him, worried a lot.
动作链:狗的动作(zigzag, dodge, dash under the oak tree, circle around Mrs. Carter) vs 人的动作(pant, stumble, reach out)。
Paragraph 2
开头:When Mikaela finally got the camera, she quickly checked it.
动作描写:dart / dash / bolt / zoom(猛冲);dodge / weave(躲闪);stumble / trip(绊倒);wag(摇尾巴);pant(喘气)。
心理描写:heart raced / sank;a wave of panic / relief washed over her;on the verge of tears / laughter。
环境烘托:sunlight filtering through the leaves;the ground blurred beneath his paws;the world spun wildly。
Hardly had she taken a step forward when Elvis shot off like a bullet.
It wasn't until he crashed into the fence that he finally dropped the camera.
What greeted her on the screen was not the scenery, but a chaotic yet adorable version of the world through Elvis’s eyes.
