When you read a news article or a science textbook, the writer's aim is to educate—— to give you facts and explain how things work. When you see an advertisement for a new phone or a political speech, the writer wants to persuade you—— to agree with an opinion or buy a product. When you read a funny story or an interesting novel, the writer's aim is to entertain—— to make you laugh or take you on an adventure.
