Stray (流浪的) animals may look cute, but life is often dangerous for them. Most of them suffer from hunger, bad weather or illness on the street all year round. It’s hard for them to find enough food and safe places to rest. Luckily, many people, like a 14-year-old student, Zhu Shangyan from Suzhou, are trying to make a difference to these animals.
Lately, she held a charity sale at her school to help stray animals. The event was a big success. It raised 15,000 yuan and collected lots of pet food and medicine. All of these were given to the Suzhou Small Animal Protection Association (SSAPA).
The idea came from her own personal experience. She once visited a special cat café. Many cats there were badly hurt. Some even lost their ears or eyes after accidents. Seeing their poor situation, Zhu wanted to do something to help more stray animals. “But I didn’t know how to start,” said Zhu. “My school’s Service as Action project gave me the chance.”
To get the word out, Zhu and her team made colorful posters and a PowerPoint presentation in their free time. They also visited different classrooms to talk about the idea and ask classmates for support. The meaningful experience taught Zhu a lot. “You can’t learn teamwork and careful planning only from a textbook,” she said. “This is just the beginning. My team and I will keep helping these animals in our spare time.”
The 2024 China Pet Industry White Paper shows that there are about 40 million stray dogs and 50 million stray cats in China. That’s almost 100 million animals in total. If we don’t act quickly, the number of stray animals will grow and put public health and safety at risk.
6. How much money did Zhu Shangyan’s charity sale raise?
A. 15,000 yuan. B. 40,000 yuan. C. 50,000 yuan. D. 100,000 yuan.
7. What gave Zhu the idea to help stray animals?
A. The charity sale. B. The visit to a café.
C. The school project. D. The SSAPA speech.
8. Which of the following best describes Zhu?
A. Active but shy. B. Popular but lazy.
C. Kind and helpful. D. Quiet and lonely.
9. What can we learn from Zhu’s words in Paragraph 4?
A. She plans to stop helping animals. B. She spends free time with her team.
C. Practical experience is also valuable. D. Textbooks are important for teamwork.
10. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To introduce ways to keep pets healthy. B. To describe dangers to stray animals.

The Eye of the Sahara is one of the most amazing natural wonders on earth. It’s a special place in the desert of Mauritania, Africa. Looking from the sky, it looks like a huge, bright eye! It is as long as about 438 football fields. The Eye looks like a big round pizza with different coloured parts, which catches the eyes of lots of explorers and tourists every year.
How was it made? Millions of years ago, the ground under the sand started to rise up. Then, wind and rain slowly washed away the soft rocks, leaving the hard ones behind. Over time, these hard rocks made the beautiful circles we see today. From above, you can count about 20 circles. Each one has a different colour that comes from different kinds of rocks. The biggest circle is on the outside, with smaller ones inside. These colors show us how the earth changed little by little for millions of years.
But the Eye of the Sahara is in trouble. The desert is very dry, and sandstorms often blow over it. The sand can make the rocks difficult to see. Also, not many people know about this amazing place because it’s far from big cities. What’s worse, some tourists do not follow the rules and damage the old rocks with careless actions.
What can we do to help? Scientists are studying the Eye to find ways to protect the rocks from sand. Some people suggest building a small road or a simple visitor centre nearby. This way more tourists can come and see the Eye of the Sahara. Most importantly, tourists should follow visiting rules and avoid hurting the rock layers (层).
Let’s take small actions right now to guard this special “eye”, keeping this fantastic natural wonder alive forever.

When we think about good communication, we usually pay attention to the words we say. But sometimes, how we move our hands can matter just as much. A new study shows that hand gestures (手势) can make a speaker seem clearer, more confident and more believable.
Researchers from North America wanted to learn about how hand gestures influence the way people understand and feel about a speaker. First, they used AI tools to study over 2,000 TED Talks — popular educational videos where speakers give short talks on different ideas. The AI looked at how often speakers used gestures that matched their message. Then, the researchers looked at how popular each talk was — how many people liked or positively marked it online — and found that talks with more of these matching gestures usually got better effect from audiences. Next, more than 1,600 people watched short videos and marked the speakers. Speakers who used strong hand gestures were seen as easier to understand and seemed more skilled and confident, showing that meaningful gestures can make a message much clearer to an audience.
These helpful movements are called “illustrators” — hand gestures that go together with what the speaker is saying. For example, when someone says “the numbers are increasing” and moves their hand higher, or if a person says “we made a small change” and shows a small space between their fingers.
These kinds of gestures give a visual (视觉的) message that makes it easier for the listener to follow the speaker’s ideas. They help to turn difficult thoughts into something clearer and easier to understand.
And the researchers found that when people understand ideas more easily, they are likely to see the speaker as more skilled, confident and believable.
So, if you want to become a better speaker, don’t only think about your words — think about your hands, too!
16. What did researchers first do in the study?
A. They checked online likes of videos. B. They matched different hand gestures.
C. They asked 1,600 people to watch videos. D. They studied over 2,000 TED Talks with AI.
17. How is paragraph 3 mainly developed?

C. By providing examples. D. By asking questions.
18. What does “They” refer to in paragraph 4?
A. Ideas. B. Changes. C. Messages. D. Gestures.
19. What is the text mainly about?
A. Proper hand gestures improve speeches. B. AI helps people to give better speeches.
C. Listeners need to learn body languages. D. How people understand speeches quickly.
20. What does the writer think of hand gestures?
A. They are useless in communication. B. They are more important than words.
C. They are helpful for public speaking. D. They are difficult for people to learn.

Through her care, the yard becomes a living work of art that … with every season",后文反复出现yard指代她种花的场地,应选用yard,表示院子,和后文内容形成呼应。
根据后文"she read gardening books, searched online, and even … and sang to the tree",列举了多种解决办法,说明她尝试了全部可行方式,应选用everything,表示所有事物。
根据并列动作"sang to the tree",此处表达和果树交谈,应选用talked,表示交谈,talk to为固定搭配,意为和…… walked表示行走,walk to仅表示走向某地;rode表示骑行,语义无关;used表示使用,无法搭配to the tree构成通顺语义。
根据后文"and by autumn, its branches were heavy … fruit",先开花后结果是果树生长规律,应选用grow,表示生长、长出,描述花朵萌发的状态。

46. began
47. classmates
48. but 49. interested
50. to enjoy
51. from 52. himself
53. a 54. has created
55. is
根据“when he was in high school”可知是描述过去发生的事,用一般过去时,所以用begin的过去式began。
根据“Raydis could not understand a word... it deeply attracted him.”,空格前后为转折逻辑:听不懂中文却被深深吸引,故填转折连词but。
主语是He,此处修饰人,用interest的形容词interested;固定搭配be interested in意为“对……
固定搭配invite sb to do sth,意为“邀请某人做某事”,故填不定式to enjoy。
由标志词already可知用现在完成时,结构为“have/has+过去分词”,主语he为第三人称单数,所以助动词用has,create的过去分词为created,故填has created。
此处陈述客观情况,用一般现在时,that指代前文“a good laugh can bring people together”这件事,所以be动词用单数is。

B: ________________________.
58.

59.
A: How do you greet people in China?
B: ________________________.
60.
A: ________________________?
B: I’ve lived there for 10 years. It’s such a beautiful city.
56. What’s wrong/ the matter with Teng Fei?
57. It is 1620 meters deep.
58. She was doing/ writing calligraphy.
59. We/I shake hands (to greet people in China) .
60. How long have you lived in Jinan?
根据答语“He has a stomachache. He ate too much cold food.” 结合图片中男孩痛苦捂着肚子的动作以及名字“Teng Fei”,常用的询问病情的句型为“What’s the matter with...?”或“What’s wrong with...?”。
问句“How deep is Lake Baikal?” 因此,需要用一个完整的句子来回答这个深度,主语用It代指Lake Baikal,表述为It is 1620 meters deep.。
问句“What was Lily doing when the rainstorm came yesterday?” 结合后文“It made her relaxed.”,写书法符合语境。 She was doing/ writing calligraphy.
问句“How do you greet people in China?”
根据答语“I’ve lived there for 10 years.” 疑问词用How long。

A. The charity sale. B. The visit to a café.
C. The school project. D. The SSAPA speech.
8. Which of the following best describes Zhu?
A. Active but shy. B. Popular but lazy.
C. Kind and helpful. D. Quiet and lonely.
9. What can we learn from Zhu’s words in Paragraph 4?
A. She plans to stop helping animals. B. She spends free time with her team.
C. Practical experience is also valuable. D. Textbooks are important for teamwork.
10. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To introduce ways to keep pets healthy. B. To describe dangers to stray animals.
C. To share a teenager’s special adventure. D. To call on people to care for stray animals.

11. Where is the Eye of the Sahara?
A. In a desert in Africa. B. On a high mountain.
C. Near a big lake. D. In a big city in Asia.
12. Which order correctly shows how the Eye of the Sahara was formed?
a. Wind and rain washed away soft rocks.
b. The ground under the sand rose up.
c. Hard rocks formed beautiful circles.
A. a-b-c. B. b-a-c. C. b-c-a. D. c-b-a.
13. What does the underlined word “damage” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Clean. B. Hide. C. Destroy. D. Draw.
14. What is the most important thing for tourists to do?
A. Follow rules and protect the rock layers.
B. Help build roads around the desert area.
C. Learn to study ways to protect the rocks.
D. Work to set up more new visitor centres.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Ways to Visit Deserts Safely. B. Great Wonders around the World.
C. Huge Rocks in African Deserts. D. The Amazing Eye of the Sahara.

A. By listing numbers. B. By giving reasons.
Do you find it difficult to fall asleep at night? ____21____ Research has found that people who read before bed usually sleep better and longer than those who don’t. This simple, low-cost habit can make a noticeable difference to both sleep quality and daily energy levels.
In a study, almost 500 participants (参与者) were asked to read a book in bed for 15 to 30 minutes before trying to sleep. ____22____ Both groups were also asked not to eat or drink anything with caffeine (咖啡因) in the hour before bedtime, to ensure fair results. ____23____ They also felt more rested and less tired in the morning, which made them more focused during the day.
One of the reasons why reading a book could improve sleep is that it’s deeply relaxing. When you read in bed, your heart slows down a little, while your muscles relax. ____24____
For many people, reading a book also means they won’t be looking at a phone or computer screen. This is important, because the light from screens can negatively affect sleep quality.
Of course, this means that reading an e-book on a screen probably won’t have the same positive effect on sleep. Even devices (设备) made just for reading still give off blue light. It is known to make it harder to fall asleep.
____25____ It’s a simple way to turn your nights into restful ones and start your days with more energy.
A. Try picking up a book!
B. Drink a cup of warm milk!
C. It can also make your mind active and creative.
D. At the same time, a good book can calm your mind.
