Teaching Procedures
Further Preparation
Step 1 Warming-up & Lead-in (6 mins)
Greet the whole class.
Show pictures of ORBIS, UNICEF and Red Cross. Ask:
What are these? What work do they do to help people?
Invite several students to share their ideas briefly.
Lead in: Today we will review all knowledge of Unit7 Charities.
Step 2 Word Revision: Spell & Distinguish (10 mins)
Quick spelling: Teachers show Chinese meanings, students write English words individually first, then check answers together.
Key confusing word explanation: found (founded-founded 建立) vs find (found-found 找到), make simple sentences.
Word form practice: treat-treatment; operate-operation; dark-darkness.
Random spot check to memorize key nouns and adjectives.
Step3 Important Phrases & Sentence Patterns (9 mins)
Chinese-English match game: divide class into two groups for phrase competition (hand out, carry on with, on board, in addition to etc.)
Learn Pattern 1: three usages of be sure: be sure to do / be sure of sth / be sure + that clause with example sentences.
Learn Pattern 2: by + doing to express ways. Ask students to make their own sentences: We help poor patients by donating money.
Students exchange their sentences in pairs.
Step4 Grammar: Passive Voice Learning & Practice (12 mins)
Lead students to conclude two basic structures:
Present passive: am / is / are + done
Past passive: was / were + done
Explain three difficult rules one by one with examples:
(1) Phrasal verbs keep prepositions: listen to → be listened to
(2) make / see / hear sb do → sb be seen to do
(3) sell / write / wash active for passive meaning
Do 5 multiple-choice exercises on PPT, work out answers and analyze mistakes.
Small practice: change 3 active sentences into passive in notebooks.
Step5 Writing Guidance & Comprehensive Exercises (5 mins)
Introduce three-part writing structure: opening (volunteer meaning) → body (experience process) → ending (feelings). Show sample essay.
Students finish blank-filling exercises on the worksheet; teacher gives corrections.
