Dealing with Negative Emotions
Everyone feels sad, angry or stressed sometimes—especially teenagers. Here are four useful ways to deal with negative emotions, according to psychology teachers:
Look on the bright side
When something bad happens, don't focus on the loss. For example, if you fail an exam, don't think "I'm so stupid". Instead, think "I can find out my weak points and improve next time". This positive attitude helps you stay hopeful.
Put yourself in others' shoes
If you argue with a friend, try to understand their feelings. Maybe they are stressed about family problems, so they spoke rudely. Understanding others reduces anger and helps you solve conflicts faster.
Take a deep breath
When you feel too angry to control yourself, stop talking and take 3 deep breaths. Deep breathing slows your heart rate and gives you time to calm down before you say something hurtful.
Talk to someone you trust
Don't keep negative emotions to yourself. Talk to your parents, teachers or close friends. They can give you advice or just listen, which makes you feel much better.
Remember: It's normal to have negative emotions. The key is to deal with them in a healthy way.
( )1. Who is this passage mainly written for?

C. buy shoes for others D. compare your shoes with others'
( )4. Which of the following is NOT a suggested way to deal with anger?

C. Talk to a trusted friend.
D. Understand the other person's situation.

The Power of Forgiveness
Forgiveness is a superpower that can change your life. When someone hurts you, it's natural to feel angry or even want to hurt them back. However, holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It only harms you.
Learning to forgive doesn't mean you agree with what the person did or that you have to be friends with them. It simply means you choose to let go of your anger and move on. This is good for your mental health.
A study shows that people who forgive easily have lower blood pressure and less stress. They also have better relationships and feel happier. Forgiveness helps you save your energy for more important things, like your goals and dreams.
So how can you practice forgiveness? First, try to understand why the person did what they did. Maybe they were having a bad day or didn't realize they hurt you. Second, talk about your feelings. Tell the person how you feel, and then decide to let it go. It might be hard at first, but it gets easier with practice.
Remember, forgiveness is a gift you give yourself.
( )6. What does the writer think of holding onto anger?
A. It is helpful for your health.
B. It is harmful to you.
C. It can help you get what you want.
D. It makes you stronger.
( )7. According to the passage, what does forgiveness mean?
A. You must be friends with the person who hurt you.
B. You agree with what the person did.
C. You let go of your anger and move on.
D. You forget what happened completely.
( )8. What is the benefit of forgiving others according to the study?
A. Getting higher scores in exams.
B. Having more close friends.
C. Having lower blood pressure.
D. Becoming richer.
( )9. What is the first step to practice forgiveness according to the passage?
A. Forget what happened.
B. Try to understand the person's reason.
C. Tell the person you forgive them.
D. Never talk to the person again.
( )10. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The Importance of Anger
B. How to Apologize to Others
C. The Power of Forgiveness
D. How to Make More Friends

阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Last month, Lisa did badly in the physics exam. She felt very sad and stayed in low spirits for days. She even didn't want to talk to anyone, afraid that others would laugh at her.
Her physics teacher, Ms. Wang, noticed this. One afternoon, she asked Lisa to come to her office. "I know you're upset about the exam," Ms. Wang said ___1___ (clear). "But one exam doesn't decide your future. You are ___2___ (talent) in physics, and I've seen you work hard."
Ms. Wang also told Lisa that it's normal to make mistakes. "Even the best scientists get things wrong from time ___3___ time," she said. "The key is to learn from your mistakes, not to hide from them."
Lisa felt much ___4___ (relax) after the talk. She decided to look on the bright side and make a study plan. Her classmates also offered to help her with physics problems. There was plenty ___5___ support around her.

Dear Mike,
I was sorry to hear that you had an argument with your best friend James. I understand how you feel right now. It is normal to feel upset and lonely when there is a conflict between close friends.
Maybe it was just a misunderstanding, or perhaps James was under too much pressure and spoke without thinking. We all make mistakes sometimes.
Here is some advice for you. First, you should take a deep breath and calm down. Then, try to put yourself in his shoes to understand his feelings. It is also a good idea to send him a message or talk to him face to face. Clear the air and tell him how you feel. I believe he will understand you.
I hope you two can make up soon and your friendship will last forever.
Best wishes,
Li Hua
