读后续写:
The next moment I saw the woman slowly walking towards me.Each step she took
echoed like thunder in my terrified mind. What does she want?Is she going to hurt me?My
heart pounded so hard that I could feel it in my ears.As she drew closer,I noticed something
unexpected-her eyes,tired but not threatening,held a trace of concern.She stopped an arm's
length away and,without a word,held out a dusty old phone.I stared at it,torn between
desperate need and deep distrust. But the child in her arms giggled softly, and for some reason,
that innocent sound broke through my fear like sunlight through clouds.
I grabbed the phone with shaking hands and called my father to come pick me up.While
the line was ringing,I stole a glance at the woman, only to find she was gently wiping dirt off
her child's cheek.After hanging up,I mumbled a quiet"thank you",to which she simply
smiled and walked away into the darkness. It didn't take long before my father arrived and
wrapped me in a tight hug.On the drive home,I leaned against the window, the previous
nervousness giving way to shame.I had misunderstood the woman's good intention simply
because of her look.Unable to shake her face from my mind,I learned never to judge a person
by their appearance and that kindness shines bright from even the darkest corner.

“Additional answer sheet please.” As I raised my hand and made the request, all the heads in the hall turned towards me in awe. They were surprised to see an over 60-year-old, grey-haired, but confident-looking grandmother writing a Sanskrit exam along with all the other Gen-Z youngsters in the room.
I spent over two decades in the teaching profession. However, I had to resign from my career when my mother-in-law was diagnosed with dementia (痴呆) and needed constant care. But the passion to learn and teach always remained with me.
For a long time, I had wanted to study Samskrit, the mother of Indian languages. Hearing that all villagers in Mattur speak Samskrit further fueled my passion. Fortunately, I visited the village and felt thrilled to hear locals speaking this ancient language. Among them was a group of students studying at Veda Pathashalas, dedicated to preserving and restoring the language to its former glory. Their commitment deeply inspired me, so I immediately enrolled in an introductory Samskrit course after returning home.
Initially, it was challenging for me to remember the words and sentences due to age, but I overcame it with my determined approach. Eventually, with due planning and practice, I wrote the exam well. My friends asked if I was nervous while writing the exam after such a long gap. I told them that it did not feel like pressure or fear when I sat there in the examination hall. It felt like returning, a walk back through the years of my teaching days. In the end, I completed all four exams — Pravesha, Parichaya, Shiksha, and Kovida — successfully in a single attempt, securing distinction in all four exams.
After more than four decades away from exams, I realized something simple. The ability to learn never leaves us. It only waits for us to return to it. If you have a strong desire and unwavering passion, age is just a number.

D. The encouragement from her former colleagues and friends.
26. What can we infer about the author from paragraph 4?
A. She felt extremely nervous during the exam.
B. She relied on pure talent to pass all the exams.
C. She failed some exams due to memory problems.
D. She benefited from her previous teaching experiences.
27. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A. Every dog has its day.
B. Time waits for no man.

Nowadays, when asked about their life ambitions, a growing number of young people seek to gain fame and fortune as social media influencers. According to Morning Consult, 57% of American Gen Z hope to become online influencers, and 53% regard it as a decent career choice. Such pursuits are understandable, as numerous social media stars in fashion, comedy and gaming can earn huge sums from a single brand promotional post. With consumers spending increasing time on social platforms, companies’ investment in influencer marketing has boomed rapidly.
Businesses are distributing a larger proportion of their marketing budgets to influencers. Research firm eMarketer reports that American companies have nearly tripled (三倍) their influencer marketing spending to 7 billion dollars over the past five years. A survey by Influencer Marketing Hub shows that 86% of global brands plan to invest in this field this year, compared with only 37% in 2017, and nearly a quarter will devote over 40% of their marketing budgets to influencer campaigns.
Influencers, or content creators, have become essential to consumers’ shopping choices. Research from Northwestern University finds that almost 75% of American Gen Z and 35% baby boomer consumers depend on influencer recommendations when selecting products.
Nevertheless, the booming trend brings challenges for ambitious influencers. Goldman Sachs data indicates merely 4% of creators make an annual income of over $100,000. The rise of AI virtual influencers further worsens the competition. Meanwhile, the oversupply of influencers makes online fame extremely changeable. A viral (走红的) post cannot secure a long-term career, as new creators keep emerging. Many influencers thus diversify income by launching personal product lines.
Worst of all, consumers are fed up with advertisements claiming to be entertaining content. A McKinsey survey reveals 68% of global fashion consumers are dissatisfied with excessive (过多的) sponsored posts. Since influencers initially gained popularity for public trust, they now struggle to maintain a balance between commercial profits and authenticity, making it increasingly difficult to stay influential and popular.
28. What makes many young people long to be social-media influencers?
A. The stable income offered by marketing agencies.
B. The successful examples and high commercial returns.
C. Wide public recognition of all online creators.
D. Easy access to brand promotional resources.
29. What can we learn from the data in the second and third paragraphs?
A. Most brands spend over 40% of budgets on influencer marketing.
B. American firms’ marketing budgets have tripled in five years.
C. Influencers have wide influence on consumers of different age groups.
D. Fewer global brands hesitated to invest in marketing before 2017.
30. Why do many influencers launch their own product lines?
A. To beat AI-generated virtual influencers.
B. To secure a more varied source of income.
C. To improve their public authenticity instantly.
D. To compete against more online followers.
31. What is the biggest challenge for today’s influencers?
A. Losing appeal due to too many sponsored posts.
B. Failing to compete with celebrity influencers.
C. Lacking support from ordinary consumers.
D. Being unable to keep up with AI technology.
D
One day, I met a mother who laughingly called herself a “perpetual (终身的) student”. She meant she pursued learning for the sheer joy of inquiry. However, the term traditionally means a person who keeps taking more courses as a way of avoiding getting a job. I think that’s wrong. We should begin to see lifelong learning as a way for individuals to gain not knowledge but freedom.
There are many ways to be a student. Some try to find balance and harmony by fitting into the educational context. Others build intellectual muscle by challenging every move the teacher makes. In daring to be critical and competitive, they work harder and learn to think more deeply. Some students learn through imitation, eager to follow their classmates and teachers. The core of all these approaches is developing the capacity to think for themselves by leaning from others.
Equally, perpetual students also seek freedom by developing curiosity, judgement and creativity in the service of one’s own good and the good of their community. This is different from being trained by an instructor to do a task or earn a medal, and it is different from the satisfaction one gets through acquiring objects or experiences in the marketplace.
Also, for perpetual students, learning (as opposed to training) has no end. As they reach the end of one path of inquiry, they find themselves already on another. These paths cannot be defined in advance of opportunity to explore them.
That’s why it’s such a challenge to be a perpetual student. As our society becomes divided, the informal educational spaces for adults to learn from people with different viewpoints are fewer. It also gets hard to exercise the intellectual humbleness that being a student requires when one is supposed to have the authority of adulthood.
Perpetual students have the potential for freedom. They embrace this potential, exploring the world, absorbing its lessons, and creatively responding to them.
32. What’s a conventional attitude towards perpetual learning?
A. It’s a way to escape from employment. B. It’s a path to gain more knowledge and freedom.
C. It’s an approach to enjoying inquiry. D. It’s a shortcut to landing a job.
33. What is the difference between learning and training?
A. Learning focuses on inner growth and public benefit rather than task fulfillment.
B. Learning aims to gain material satisfaction instead of personal curiosity.
C. Learning requires professional instruction and standardized skill assessment.
D. Learning values short-term rewards far more than long-term freedom.
34. According to paragraph 5, why is it challenging to be a perpetual student?
A. Book clubs and online classes are not available anymore.
B. Adults feel it unnecessary to continue to learn new things.
C. Co-workers never provide valuable learning opportunities.
D. Society is becoming divided, reducing spaces for diverse learning.
35. What’s the best title of the passage?
A. To Be a Perpetual Student: A Traditional Way to Avoid Work
B. To Be a Perpetual Student: A Best Way to Be a Good Worker
C. To Be a Perpetual Student: A Chance to Seek for Knowledge
D. To Be a Perpetual Student: A Challenge for Adults to Overcome

Having “Boring” Conversations Is Actually Good for You
Many people avoid small talk with colleagues or strangers. They tend to skip casual chats, believing such conversations are dull and meaningless. 36 However, new research reveals that these so-called boring conversations bring surprising benefits to both mental and physical health.
The study, published in a social psychology journal, conducted nine experiments involving 1,800 participants. Participants were asked to predict their feelings about discussing boring topics, such as history, mathematics, daily routines and insignificant life matters. 37 Unexpectedly, most participants ended up enjoying the conversations far more than they had expected, whether the chats took place online or in person, with friends or strangers.
38 It is not the topic itself but the level of engagement that determines the quality of a conversation. Even an ordinary topic can become meaningful when both parties listen attentively and respond sincerely. As naturally social beings, humans gain valuable emotional connection from such simple interactions.
Besides bringing joy, boring conversations also help reduce loneliness. Loneliness has little to do with the number of people one meets. 39 Avoiding casual small talk only deepens feelings of loneliness. Moreover, long-term loneliness increases the risk of heart disease, depression and other health issues. Short daily chats can gradually ease loneliness and lower related health risks.
40 More social contact does not guarantee a better mental state. Only respectful, equal and emotionally safe interactions can bring positive effects. Negative or unfriendly conversations offer no benefits at all. Therefore, we should keep an open mind toward ordinary small talk and not judge a conversation by its topic in advance.
A. They thought these talks would be boring and unpleasant.
B. Not all social communication is beneficial to our health.
C. They are more willing to talk about interesting topics.
D. The study comes to an encouraging conclusion.
E. Instead, it lies in real emotional communication.
F. People have known the importance of daily chats.
G. They consider meaningless small talk a waste of time.

Last year, when I was in the 11th grade, my friend Rameesa and I were chosen to make a presentation at a school fair. The day before the event, we were asked to make some last-minute changes, which took a few extra after-school hours to complete. With home at least 30 kilometres away by bus, I called my parents from a teacher’s phone to let them know I’d be later than usual.
After saying goodbye to Rameesa, I boarded a direct bus to my neighbourhood and settled into a window seat for the long ride back. The bus was crowded with tired office workers and students like me, and the evening light outside was slowly fading.
At some point, lulled (使安静) by the steady movement of the bus, I fell asleep. When I finally woke up and looked around, my heart skipped a beat — I found myself in an unfamiliar area. The street names meant nothing to me, and nothing looked familiar. It was 7: 00 p.m. and getting dark fast. I had clearly missed my stop by a long distance. In a panic, I rushed out at the next stop, holding my schoolbag tightly, unsure of what to do next.
The place where I got off was nearly empty, except for a few construction workers walking around in the distance. There was a slum (贫民窟) not far away, with small shacks (棚屋) crowded together, but no shops or public phones where I could call home. The streetlights were weak and far apart, casting long, uncertain shadows on the ground.
As I stood there trying to figure out a way out of my difficult situation, I suddenly had the feeling that I was being watched. A chill ran down my back. I looked around and saw a woman holding a child in her arms, staring at me from the edge of the slum. Her appearance — short, thin and with untidy hair, her sari (纱丽) dirty and torn — did nothing to make me feel safe. Wild thoughts flooded my mind, and I convinced myself that someone who looked like her could only be dangerous. My mind told my body to run, but I couldn’t move.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph one:
The next moment I saw the woman slowly walking towards me.
Paragraph two:
I grabbed the phone with shaking hands and called my father to come pick me up.

Now the door on the right of the entrance hall leads into the gift shop and ticket center once we pick up our entrance tickets, i'd ask everyone to put their bags and coats in the storage area. Now once you come back into the entrance hall, the door on the opposite side to the gift shop leads into the art gallery. There is a special exhibition there at the moment. If you continue on up the entrance hallway that leads into the main exhibition center, on the back left hand side, there are some toilets. Beside the toilets, you'll find the three d theatre. I strongly recommend that you make time for the thirty minute presentation in the theatre running along the right hand side of the main exhibition center is the modern art studio. Here, not only can you view some of the most famous works of the twenty th century, but you can also attend a workshop run by a local artist. Okay, that's the art museum.
