He told Mary that her parents and all the servants were dead. Mary did not say anything. She did not know what to think.
“I know I should be sad,” she thought, “but I am not very sad. Maybe it’s because I didn’t see my parents often. They were too busy to spend time with me.”
For a short time, Mary went to live with a man who worked in a church and his wife. The man was a clergyman named Mr. Crawford. His main job was to lead people to pray or host weddings in the church. They had a son, Basil. Mary hated him, and he hated her.
Mary was not happy to live with the Crawfords. Then one day. Mr. Crawford said, “Tomorrow you will leave India, Mary, and go to England. You have an uncle there. Archibald Craven. He lives at Misselthwaite Manor in the countryside.”
Mary traveled from India to England by ship. When she arrived in London, a lady called Mrs. Medlock met her. She was Archibald Craven’s housekeeper.
“What a plain child,” Mrs. Medlock thought. “And what an unhappy child. I don’t know how she will fit in at Misselthwaite Manor.”

Nowadays, smart home devices (设备) have become a popular choice for more and more people. They allow people to manage their homes from anywhere, making life more convenient and enjoyable. However, they also come with safety risks that you may not notice.
Some smart home devices are often rushed to the market, without enough safety testing. As a result, some baby monitors (监视器) and cameras have been hacked (非法入侵). So hackers (黑客) could spy (暗中监视) on others and even control their devices. Many experts believe that with smart home devices, you shouldn’t ask “if” they will be hacked, but “when”, because many of these devices are easy to hack and don’t have strong protection.
If hackers break into your devices, they could get your Wi-Fi password (密码) or other saved personal information. Criminals (犯罪分子) might monitor your device activity to find out when you get up, when you’re not at home, when you come back from work and so on. What’s more, many people control their smart devices through smartphones, which means some important personal information could be at risk.
Although the risks of smart home devices might sound scary, there are several ways to stay safe. One of the easiest ways is to keep devices updated (更新). Companies often put out new versions (版本) to replace the old ones, so be sure to update your systems regularly.
Another important way is to protect your network. Use a strong Wi-Fi password, turn on network encryption (加密), and consider setting up a guest network for your smart devices. This will help stop strangers from visiting your network and devices.
32. Why do many people use smart home devices?
A. Because they are so cheap.
B. Because they are very safe to use.
C. Because they make homes more beautiful.
D. Because they make their lives easier to manage.
33. What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
A. How to keep your smart devices safe.
B. Why smart home devices are expensive.
C. How hackers break into your computers.
D. The dangers of using smart home devices.
34. Which is the way to protect the network?
A. Update the device systems on a regular basis.
B. Operate smart home devices with mobile phones.
C. Launch new system versions to take the place of old ones.
D. Set a complex Wi-Fi password and enable network encryption.
35. What is the structure of this passage?
A. B. C. D.
【答案】32. D 33. D 34. D 35. B

QR code stickers (二维码标签) are then sent to their addresses. The book owners should stick them on the books before donating books and readers can know where the books are from with the help of QR codes.

The Fair, an online publishing company, put over 10,000 books on the underground, planes and taxis to advise people to be more interested in reading. This project is called “Mobook”.
“Mobook” gets its idea from “Books on the Underground”, a community project in London. The purpose of “Books on the Underground” is to encourage people to read more. Zhang Wei, the CEO of the Fair, also wanted to do something in China. He sent an e-mail to Ms Cordelia Oxley, the leader of “Books on the Underground”, describing his plan and explaining the rules of “Mobook”. The leader replied to him in just two hours, saying that she thought the idea was fantastic and she would offer help if needed.
But the “Mobook” project in China is a little different from that in London. It has its own online system. People who want to donate books must give their information online. QR code stickers (二维码标签) are then sent to their addresses. The book owners should stick them on the books before donating books and readers can know where the books are from with the help of QR codes.
“Mobook” is a hot topic. Now thousands of bookworms have already taken part in the project. Zhang Wei said, “I am happy to see more and more people share their opinions about the books online and enjoy the happiness that reading brings to them.”
