Shortening the pilots’ night flying time. 20. How do most people find the changes? A. Wise. B. Useless. C. Unscientific. B 18. C 19. A 20. M: This is the local daily news. More than half of British airline pilots say they have fallen asleep during flight, a survey said yesterday.According to BALPA, the British Airline Pilots’ Association, 300 out of 500 pilots surveyed admitted being asleep during work. And one third of these sleeping pilots said that they had woken up to find their co-pilot also asleep. Pilot exhaustion became the headlines and aroused public concern this week when a newspaper reported two pilots on a British flight fell asleep, leaving the full plane traveling automatically in the air. The survey came before the European governments decide on the air rule changes. The rule changes would mean that pilots could work a total of 110 hours in a two-week period, more than the 95-hour limit under the current regulations and at night pilots could be expected to fly for up to 11 hours, against a current 10-hour limit. Many people are worried about the changes. Tiredness is already a major challenge for pilots who are deeply concerned that the new EU rules will increase levels of tiredness, which is believed to be the leading cause for air accidents, beating mechanical faults and natural threats such as storms or fogs. A On her third Christmas, my daughter Jillian didn't have the energy for opening presents. At 23-months, she had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive tumor. I didn’t know how challenging the holidays could become until Jillian died. Being sorrowful became my full-time job in the following days. The pain was a wildfire in my chest and nothing could put it out. A week before the fourth Christmas, Tom and I bought a three-foot plant that slightly resembled a Christmas tree. My adult nephew Frankie came along. We were busy decorating the tree and Frankie reached into a Christmas decoration box and pulled out a toy angel with a white gown that my aunt had crafted years before. As he lifted the angel, her hair fell out in one big bunch, just like Jillian's. We burst into laughter. In between gasps, Frankie looked up with the angel in hand and said, “Hi, Jillian.” Tom emerged from the bedroom and saw our tree, “It’s small, bald and beautiful! Just like Jilly-boo. I like it.” I moved closer to Tom and he put his arm around my shoulder. Looking at the angel, I knew it would help us through the holidays. Like us, it was sad and pitiful, but full of beautiful memories of Jillian. “Do something new.” said a minister who ran a support group I went to. It’s as if you must create a new space in your heart to keep it beating, despite the bleeding hole. Tom and I were eventually able to experience the wonder of a four-year-old at Christmas. On the one-year anniversary of Jillian’s death, I discovered I was pregnant. Our second daughter, Cadence, brought us back to joy and hope. Cadence is nine now, and hoping Santa will bring her a dog this year. Eleven years after Jillian’s death, Christmas is almost Christmas again. 21. What does the author say about herself after Jillian’s death? A. She went on her life as usual. B. She was drowned in tears. C. She decided to start a new life. D. She quit her full-time job. 22. What can we infer about the toy angel? A. It was a beautiful decoration. B. It was a gift from Jillian. C. It was a relief to the author. D. It was a symbol of strength. 23. What does the author mean by “Christmas is almost Christmas again”? A. Her family can reunite again. B. She has been out of sadness. C. Santa will bring them gifts. D. She has another daughter. 24. What can we learn from the passage? A. Mother’s love is forever strong. B. One should depend on himself. C. Family is everything for people. D. Life goes on despite misfortunes. B 22. C 23. B 24. 根据第一段中“I didn’t know how challenging the holidays could become until Jillian died. Being sorrowful became my full-time job in the following days. The pain was a wildfire in my chest and nothing could put it out.(直到Jillian去世,我才知道这个节日会变得多么具有挑战性。在接下来的日子里,悲伤成了我的全职工作。疼痛像野火一样在我的胸口燃烧,没有什么能把它扑灭)”可知,作者每天被失去女儿的痛苦包围和折磨,沉浸在悲伤中。故选B。 【22题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“Looking at the angel, I knew it would help us through the holidays. Like us, it was sad and pitiful, but full of beautiful memories of Jillian.(看着这个天使,我知道它能帮我们度过假期。和我们一样,悲伤和可怜,但却充满了对吉莉安美好的回忆)”可推断,玩具小天使给作者带来了安慰。故选C。 【23题详解】 句意猜测题。根据最后一段中“On the one-year anniversary of Jillian's death, I discovered I was pregnant. Our second daughter, Cadence, brought us back to joy and hope. Cadence is nine now, and hoping Santa will bring her a dog this year. Eleven years after Jillian's death, Christmas is almost Christmas again.(在Jillian去世一周年的时候,我发现自己怀孕了。我们的二女儿Cadence,给我们带来了欢乐和希望。Cadence现在九岁了,希望圣诞老人今年能送她一只狗。Jillian去世11年后,圣诞节又快到了)”可推知,作者再次怀孕有了第二个女儿Cadence,重新获得了快乐和希望,所以“Christmas is almost Christmas again”这句话的意思是作者已经走出了悲伤,圣诞节在他们心中又恢复了往日的涵义。故选B。 【24题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“On the one-year anniversary of Jillian's death, I discovered I was pregnant. Our second daughter, Cadence, brought us back to joy and hope. Cadence is nine now, and hoping Santa will bring her a dog this year. Eleven years after Jillian’s death, Christmas is almost Christmas again.(在Jillian去世一周年的时候,我发现自己怀孕了。 D。 B Scientists from Imperial College London have found that using virtual reality(VR)headsets can reduce sensitivity to pain, by immersing(沉浸)people in icy Arctic scenery. In a study published in Pain Reports, a team from Imperial used VR video to reduce people’s sensitivity to ongoing pain and sharp shooting pain. According to the researchers, the findings add to the growing evidence for the potential of VR technology to help patients with long-term pain. Beyond the distracting effect, they think VR may actually cause the body’s own inbuilt pain-fighting systems to start working. Dr Sam Hughes, the first author on the paper, said "Our work suggests that VR may be getting involved in processes in the key parts of our inbuilt pain-fighting systems and are helpful in regulating the spread of increased sensitivity to pain. To test their theory, researchers applied a cream containing capsaicin(辣椒素)-the chemical that makes your mouth bum-to 15 healthy volunteers. The capsaicin makes the skin more sensitive to painful stimuli(刺激)like a very small electric shock. In the first trial, participants were then asked to rate the pain caused by the capsaicin cream on a scale of 0-100 (from 'no pain' to 'worst pain possible' )while either watching a VR scene of Arctic exploration through a headset, or looking at a still image of an Arctic scene on a monitor. Under the same conditions, they were also asked to say when a stimulus applied directly to the skin area is considered as painful. The team found that ongoing pain was reduced following VR immersion, and that sensitivity to painful stimuli was also reduced. However, the same effect was not seen in people who looked at still images of the polar environment. They explain that while the findings made at the beginning are encouraging, the study is limited by the small number of healthy participants, without long-term pain. However, the researchers believe VR could hold a bright future to treat patients with long-term pain who have poor inbuilt pain fighting systems. 25. How can VR possibly help long-term pain sufferers? A. By making their pain-fighting systems function. B. By drawing their attention to fighting pain. C. By controlling the spread of pain sensitivity. D. By slowing down their brains' reaction to pain. 26. Which step comes first in their theory testing? A. Making a capsaicin cream. B. Putting on virtual reality headsets. C. Applying capsaicin cream to the skin. D. Looking at pictures on a computer screen. 27. What conclusion can be drawn from the trial? A. Still images helped to ease people's pain. B. VR immersion was the key factor in pain reduction. C. Healthy people were less sensitive to VR than pain sufferers. D. Capsaicin cream brought people more pain than electronic stimulus. 28. What does the last paragraph imply? A. The team feels confident about future VR treatment. B. The researchers will work on the side effect of VR. C. VR treatment can be applied in other medical fields. D. The trial only has an effect on short-term pain patients. 【答案】25. A 26. C 27. B 28. A 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇说明文。伦敦帝国理工学院的科学家发现,使用虚拟现实(VR)耳机可以让人沉浸在冰冷的北极景色中,从而降低对疼痛的敏感度。虽然目前的研究不够完善,但研究团队认为VR可以为治疗长期疼痛且内置止痛系统不佳的患者带来光明的前景。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“According to the researchers, the findings add to the growing evidence for the potential of VR technology to help patients with long-term pain. Beyond the distracting effect, they think VR may actually cause the body’s own inbuilt pain-fighting systems to start working.(研究人员表示,这一发现进一步证明了VR技术在帮助长期疼痛患者方面的潜力。除了这种分散注意力的效果,他们认为VR实际上可能会导致人体自身内置的止痛系统开始工作。)”可知VR可能会导致人体自身内置的止痛系统开始工作,由此可推知VR是通过让止痛系统发挥作用来帮助长期疼痛患者。故选A项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“To test their theory, researchers applied a cream containing capsaicin(辣椒素)-the chemical that makes your mouth bum-to 15 healthy volunteers. (为了验证他们的理论,研究人员对15名健康志愿者使用了一种含有辣椒素的乳霜——辣椒素是一种会让你的嘴巴变得不舒服的化学物质。)”可知在理论验证过程中的第一步是在皮肤上涂抹辣椒素霜。故选C项。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“The team found that ongoing pain was reduced following VR immersion, and that sensitivity to painful stimuli was also reduced. However, the same effect was not seen in people who looked at still images of the polar environment.(研究小组发现,沉浸VR后持续的疼痛减少了,对疼痛刺激的敏感性也降低了。然而,同样的效果在观看静止的极地环境图片的人身上没有看到。)”可知VR沉浸感比观看普通的静止环境图片减轻疼痛的效果更为明显,由此可推知VR沉浸感是减轻疼痛的关键因素。故选B项。 【28题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“They explain that while the findings made at the beginning are encouraging, the study is limited by the small number of healthy participants, without long-term pain. However, the researchers believe VR could hold a bright future to treat patients with long-term pain who have poor inbuilt pain fighting systems.(他们解释说,尽管开始时的发现令人鼓舞,但该研究受到健康参与者的限制,且没有长期痛苦。 但是,研究人员认为,VR可以为治疗长期疼痛且内置止痛系统不佳的患者带来光明的前景。)”可知研究人员认为VR可以为治疗长期疼痛且内置止痛系统不佳的患者带来光明的前景,由此可知本段内容表明该团队对未来VR治疗充满信心。故选A项。 C Having a microchip implanted in a man’s brain may be common in sci-fi movie plots, but it may soon become an actual possibility. Elon musk, founder of Space X and co-founder of electric car maker Tesla — has been working on this technology. On Aug 28, Musk gave display of the chip, which was implanted into the head of a pig named Gertrude. The chip, developed by Musk’s company, is the size of a coin. But don’t let its size fool you. The tiny chip has over 3,000 electrodes attached to flexible threads, which can monitor about 1,000 neurons (神经元). It collects neural signals from an area of the brain, and then transmits those signals wirelessly to nearby computers. In the display, Gertrude could be seen walking around her pen sniffing the ground while a monitor showed her brain activity. Though the technology is still in its early stage, it is encouraging for humans. This technology would solve a lot of brain injuries, which will allow the human brain to combine with an artificial intelligence. When the device can be applied to humans, its main goal will be to help those who have mobility issues. Musk hopes this technology can also be used to help those with hearing and eyesight issues and one day lead to a cure for epilepsy (癫痫). Although such a device could, in principle, repair those problems, putting it into practice is by no means a piece of cake. Currently, the device can transmit signals from about 500 neurons in the pig’s brain. Compared to 80 billion neurons in a human brain, this number is tiny. And to cover the whole human brain also means the electrodes have to be much smaller. Also, implanting the chip into the brain poses a potential danger. There is a risk of the immune system attacking this foreign body. Right now, the hope of controlling the brain via controlling a few neurons seems overly optimistic. “There are many technological challenges to overcome before Neuralink can put its devices to the purposes,” Yuan Lanfeng, an associate professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, told China Daily. 29. What do we know about Elon Musk’s microchip according to the first three paragraphs? A. It was inspired by sci-fi movie plots B. It is able to collect wireless signals. C. It is tiny in size but powerful in function. D. It has been implanted into a human’s brain. 30. What do paragraphs 6-7 mainly talk about? A. Potential problems in applying the chip to human. B. Key differences between pigs’ and humans’ brains. C. The amount of time and money implanting the chip could cost. D. How the immune system is the major obstacle to the implant. 31. What is the major target of the microchip in human application? A. To monitor animals’ brain activity. B. To help people with difficulty in moving freely. C. To develop a cure for epilepsy. D. To contribute to the research on Al technologies. 32. How does Yuan Lanfeng feel about implanting the chip into the human brain? A. Worried. B. Excited. C. Optimistic. D. Cautious. 【答案】29. C 30. A 31. B 32. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。介绍了在大脑在植入芯片听起来很科幻,但是马斯克的公司已经开始实施这样的实验了。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。由文章第三段中的句子“The chip, developed by Musk’s company, is the size of a coin. But don’t let its size fool you. The tiny chip has over 3,000 electrodes attached to flexible threads, which can monitor about 1,000 neurons (神经元). (这个芯片是由马斯克的公司开发的,只有硬币大小。但别让它的尺寸愚弄了你。这种微型芯片有3000多个电极连接在柔性线上,可以监测大约1000个神经元)”可知,这种芯片虽然小但是功能强大。故选C项。 【30题详解】 主旨大意题。由第六段中的“Although such a device could, in principle, repair those problems, putting it into practice is by no means a piece of cake.(虽然这种装置原则上可以修复这些问题,但将其付诸实践绝非易事)”和第七段“Also, implanting the chip into the brain poses a potential danger. There is a risk of the immune system attacking this foreign body.(此外,将芯片植入大脑也有潜在的危险。免疫系统有攻击这个异物的危险)”可知,芯片运用于大脑绝非易事,对大脑有风险,可得出第六、七段主要讲将芯片应用于人类可能存在的问题。故选A项。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。由第五段中的“When the device can be applied to humans, its main goal will be to help those who have mobility issues.(当这种装置能够应用于人类时,它的主要目标将是帮助那些行动不便的人)”可知,芯片应用于人类的主要目标是帮助行动不便的人。故选B项。 【32题详解】 推理判断题。由最后一段中的“‘There are many technological challenges to overcome before Neuralink can put its devices to the purposes,’ Yuan Lanfeng, an associate professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, told China Daily.(中国科技大学副教授袁兰峰在接受《中国日报》采访时说:“还有许多技术挑战需要克服,才能使Neuralink的设备达到预期目的。”)”可知,袁兰峰认为在Neuralink的设备达到预期目之前,需要克服许多技术挑战,可得出对将芯片植入人脑一事,袁兰峰很谨慎。故选D项。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 When I was asked to take part in a forest bathing, I packed a swimsuit, assuming it must involve a refreshing swim in the water. ____33____ I met Forest Therapy (治疗) guide Melanic Choukas- Bradley and several other women who’d come along for the adventure at an urban forest. Here, I began to get it. Forest bathing isn’t a bath. We sat on the banks of the river, but we did not get in the water. ____34____ We did walk the forest tracks, but we wandered with no destination in mind. The aim of forest bathing, Choukas-Bradley explained, is to slow down and become fully bathed in the natural environment. She helped us tune in to the forest’s smells, tastes and sights. ___35___ As we passed through the trees, we touched their trunks, feeling the roughness beneath our fingers. We smelled the flowers, each breath being a celebration of nature’s beauty. There’s a growing body of evidence that shows forest bathing can help boost mood and reduce stress. ____36____ A 2011 study comparing city walks to forest walks found the forest environment led to greater reductions in blood pressure, despite both activities requiring equal physical effort. ____37____ Most of human history was spent in environments that lack buildings and walls, and our bodies have adapted to living in the natural world. But today most of us spend much of our life indoors. Perhaps the new forest bathing trend is a recognition that many of us need a little nudge to get back out there. A. It’s not a hike, either. B. It turns out that my interpretation was literal. C. The benefits of nature can be accessed simply. D. Forest bathing frees us from worldly engagements. E. The idea that spending time in nature is good is not new. F. Indeed, medical researchers have demonstrated its benefits. G. We took in the peaceful surroundings by using all our senses. 【答案】33. B 34. A 35. G 36. F 37. E 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了什么是森林浴以及森林浴的好处等。 【33题详解】 根据上文“When I was asked to take part in a forest bathing, I packed a swimsuit, assuming it must involve a refreshing swim in the water.(当我被邀请参加森林浴时,我带上了泳衣,以为一定是在水里游个痛快)”可知,上文提到作者以为森林浴就是去游泳,即从字面上理解了这个概念。故B选项“原来我理解的是字面意思”符合语境,故选B。 【34题详解】 根据上文“We sat on the banks of the river, but we did not get in the water.(我们坐在河岸上,但没有下水)”以及后文“We did walk the forest tracks, but we wandered with no destination in mind.(我们确实沿着森林小径走了,但我们漫无目的地徘徊)”可知,本句主要是在介绍森林浴的特点,不是下水游泳,只是漫无目的地徘徊,说明是无目的的散步,不是有目的地徒步旅行。故A选项“也不是徒步旅行”符合语境,故选A。 【35题详解】 根据后文“As we passed through the trees, we touched their trunks, feeling the roughness beneath our fingers. We smelled the flowers, each breath being a celebration of nature’s beauty.(当我们穿过树林时,我们触摸着树干,感受着手指下的粗糙。我们闻着花香,每一次呼吸都是对大自然之美的赞美)”可知,提到了触摸、感受、闻着、呼吸,都是在强调感官体验。故G选项“我们运用一切感官感受这宁静的环境”符合语境,故选G。 【36题详解】 根据上文“There’s a growing body of evidence that shows forest bathing can help boost mood and reduce stress.(越来越多的证据表明,森林浴可以帮助改善情绪,减轻压力)”以及后文“A 2011 study comparing city walks to forest walks found the forest environment led to greater reductions in blood pressure, despite both activities requiring equal physical effort.(2011年的一项研究比较了城市散步和森林散步,发现森林环境更能降低血压,尽管这两种活动都需要同样的体力)”可知,本句为过渡句,指出有研究证明了森林浴可以帮助改善情绪,减轻压力,同时引出后文的研究内容。故F选项“事实上,医学研究人员已经证明了它的好处”符合语境,故选F。 【37题详解】 根据后文“Most of human history was spent in environments that lack buildings and walls, and our bodies have adapted to living in the natural world. But today most of us spend much of our life indoors. Perhaps the new forest bathing trend is a recognition that many of us need a little nudge to get back out there.(人类历史的大部分时间都是在没有建筑和墙壁的环境中度过的,我们的身体已经适应了在自然界的生活。 One night in Reykjavik, Thorleifsson was wandering around the main street with his wife and kids. One warm spring day, a little dog followed them home after school. It had short legs and long lovely ears, with a fawn-colored coat. It was the cutest dog I had ever seen and the girls begged me to keep it. The dog was barely twelve weeks old. It had no collar or identifying marks of any sort. I didn’t know what to do. I thought about running an advertisement in the lost-and-found but I really didn’t want to. It would break the kids’ hearts if someone should show up. Besides, its owners should have watched it more closely. By the end of the week the dog was part of our family. It was very intelligent and good with the girls. The following week something told me to check the lost-and-found section in the local paper. One particular advertisement jumped out at me and my heart pounded with fear at what I read. Someone was begging for the return of a lost dog in the neighborhood of our grade school. They sounded desperate. My hand shook. I couldn’t bring myself to pick up the phone. Instead, I pretended I hadn’t seen the advertisement. I quickly put paper away in the drawer and continued with my dusting. I never said a word about it to the kids or my husband. By now we had named the dog. It looked like a Molly, so that was what we called it. It followed the girls everywhere they went. When they went outside, it was one step behind them. When they did housework, it was there to lend a hand. There was only one problem with this otherwise perfect picture: my conscience (良心) was bothering me. I knew in my heart I had to call that number and see if our Molly was the dog they were desperately seeking. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. 注意: 1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: I asked the woman to come in and she quickly bent over and hugged Molly tightly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone. Anxious yet determined, I dialed the number, my fingers trembling slightly. It didn’t take long before a young woman’s voice came through the receiver. No sooner had she heard my detailed description of the fawn-colored puppy than she choked up, insisting on coming over at once. Thirty minutes later, the doorbell rang, with Molly’s excited barks echoing through the house. Reluctant though I was, I opened the door, forcing myself to face the moment of goodbye. I asked the woman to come in and she quickly bent over and hugged Molly tightly. Tears of joy streamed down her face as Molly licked her cheeks. The girls, who had been peeking from behind the sofa, stepped out slowly, their eyes glistening with tears. Much to our relief, the woman promised she would bring Molly to our home at weekends. Before they left, the woman extended her heartfelt gratitude. This experience served as a constant reminder that doing the right thing — even when it hurts — brings the peace that comes from following our conscience. 词汇激活 行为类 ①打电话:dial the number/make a phone call ②过来:come over/come along ③离开:leave/depart 情绪类 ①兴奋:excited/thrilled ②高兴:joy/delight 【点睛】[高分句型1] No sooner had she heard my detailed description of the fawn-colored puppy than she choked up, insisting on coming over at once. 21. B Scientists from Imperial College London have found that using virtual reality(VR)headsets can reduce sensitivity to pain, by immersing(沉浸)people in icy Arctic scenery. C Having a microchip implanted in a man’s brain may be common in sci-fi movie plots, but it may soon become an actual possibility. A. Worried. B. Excited. C. Optimistic. D. Cautious. When I was asked to take part in a forest bathing, I packed a swimsuit, assuming it must involve a refreshing swim in the water. ____33____ I met Forest Therapy (治疗) guide Melanic Choukas- Bradley and several other women who’d come along for the adventure at an urban forest. Paragraph 1: With mixed feelings, I finally picked up the phone. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一节听下面5段对话。 It's already six o'clock.
