After I started reading, I really couldn't keep my eyes off it. It is always inspiring to read a story of someone who has gone through obstacles to reach his goals.     Jason Lester is a disabled (残疾的) extreme athlete. When he was twelve years old, a fast car ran a red light and hit him. Then he was sent into the hospital with twenty broken bones and a seriously injured arm. Jason had always wanted to become a famous baseball player, but at that time that dream was gone.     However, Jason loved sports and he still wanted to be a good athlete. He began running and taking part in duathlons (铁人两项) in high school. Years later in 2004, he decided to start training for the Ironman, and has competed in many extreme races since then. In 2008, Jason became the first disabled athlete to complete the Ultraman (320 miles of biking, swimming and running), and it led him to an ESPY award (奖项) for Best Male Athlete With a Disability in 2009.     If you are in a bad situation and don't know what to do, now, Running on Faith is a good book for you. If you love running and want to reach some race goals, this book is good for you, too. Anyway, this book is worth reading for everyone who loves reading and wants to turn dreams into reality. 21.What happened to Jason Lester when he was 12? A. He ran a red light and got injured. B. He was seriously hurt in the accident. C. He lost the courage to be an extreme athlete. D. He decided to play baseball after the accident. 22.What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 3 refer to? A. Taking part in duathlons. B. Training himself in running. C. Competing in many extreme races. D. Completing the Ultraman. 23.Why does the author write the last paragraph? A. To show how dreams can come true. B. To explain why Running on Faith is popular. C. To recommend reading Running on Faith. D. To explore the way to be a good athlete. Jason Lester is a disabled (残疾的) extreme athlete. When he was twelve years old, a fast car ran a red light and hit him.(Jason Lester是一名极限残疾人运动员,他十二岁时,一辆快车闯红灯撞了他)可知,作者在第二段中写了Jason Lester12岁时在事故中受了重伤,故选B。 2. In 2008, Jason became the first disabled athlete to complete the Ultraman (320 miles of biking, swimming and running), and it led him to an ESPY award (奖项) for Best Male Athlete With a Disability in 2009.(2008年,Jason成为第一个完成Ultraman (320英里的自行车,游泳和跑步) 的残疾运动员,这使他在2009年获得ESPY最佳残疾男运动员奖。) If you are in a bad situation and don't know what to do, now, Running on Faith is a good book for you.(如果你正处于一个糟糕的情况下,不知道该做什么,那么Running on Faith对你来说是一本好书)可知,作者写最后一段是为了推荐阅读Running on Faith这本书。故选C。 B Born and brought up in a small family in Kaliwal village in India, Veeranna Madiwalar had a childhood full of struggle. Even as his parents struggled to make ends meet, it was very difficult to pay his school fees. It was his uncle who supported his education. “He used to say that he saw a changemaker and artist in me, and he wanted me to complete my education,” he says. After receiving his master’s degree in English and Kannada, he moved back to his hometown because he wanted to make education better for future generations. “I worked for four years before being made the headmaster of a school in 2016,” he says, adding that the old and poor building and lack of infrastructure (基础设施) made him think of his own school’s state. Using his own money, he started small—he planted a few trees across the campus, and started repair work on the building. But he knew he could not fund the repair of the school alone and would need more help. So he used the power of social media (社交媒体) to raise money. “I started posting pictures of the school with my repairs on social media. Word spread and, surprisingly, many people came forward to help me,” he says. Today this school is a far cry from what it used to be—with colourful walls, lots of infrastructure, trees, a garden, and a library with picture books and audio-visual resources (视听资源) in English and Kannada. And the number of students has grown from 76 to 136. “The change is amazing,” says Suleman Sheikh, an official from the school. “It didn’t happen overnight. It was a slow journey, and everyone, even students, played a part in it. Today, the school stands proudly, and the students have a place they truly enjoy studying in.” 24.What led Veeranna to go back to Kaliwal village? A. The plan to complete his degree. B. The wish to improve local education. C. The post of headmaster at a school. D. The decision to change his old school’s state. 25.How did Veeranna solve the problem of shortage of funds? A. By planting trees by himself. B. By selling pictures to newspapers. C. By working part-time as a repairman. D. By turning to web-based communities. 26.What does the underlined part “a far cry” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Quite far. B. Completely different. C. Very similar. D. Obviously sad. 27.What does Suleman want to stress? A. Well begun is half done. B. More hands make light work. C. Actions speak louder than words. D. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart. 根据第二段中“After receiving his master’s degree in English and Kannada, he moved back to his hometown because he wanted to make education better for future generations.” 根据第三段中“So he used the power of social media (社交媒体) to raise money.” 根据第四段画线词后文“with colourful walls, lots of infrastructure, trees, a garden, and a library with picture books and audio-visual resources (视听资源) in English and Kannada”可知,今天这所学校与过去完全不同了。 根据最后一段中“It was a slow journey, and everyone, even students, played a part in it.” C In the desert in Peru, over 300 new ancient drawings were discovered by using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drones (无人机). The Nazca people, who lived in the area over 2, 000 years ago, made the drawings by removing the reddish top layer (层) of rocks in the desert. The drawings are called “geoglyphs (地画)”. The Nazca Lines, which are a famous group of huge ancient drawings, include many different kinds of geoglyphs, from simple shapes to pictures of animals and plants, usually drawn with a single long, winding line. The first geoglyph was discovered in 1927. Since then, scientists have found around 430 geoglyphs in the area. Now, using AI and drones, scientists have found 303 new geoglyphs. The discovery of one geoglyph used to take three or four years, but now may be done in two or three months. However, the AI program also made lots of mistakes—for every 36 possible geoglyphs the program found, the scientists discovered only one actual geoglyph. Even so, the new method of turning up geoglyphs was much faster than the scientists could have managed without drones and AI. To find the new geoglyphs, the scientists trained a special AI program to analyze satellite images for potential geoglyphs. They spent over 2, 600 hours looking at places the AI had advised. They took lots of pictures with drones and worked on the ground in Peru to check out the locations. Most of the new-found geoglyphs are smaller than the ones already discovered, and are about nine meters in length. Many of them seem to show humans as well as animals. The scientists are still trying to figure out what the geoglyphs mean. For one thing, the scientists discovered paths in the Nazca Desert. The scientists believe these paths were made by the Nazca people walking through the desert, and that the smaller geoglyphs were meant to be seen by these travellers. The scientists also believe the larger geoglyphs are different and may have been used for celebrations or other special events. 28.How were the Nazca geoglyphs created? A. By adding red rocks. B. By carving in the soil. C. By copying winding lines. D. By clearing rock surface layers. 29.Why does the author list the figures in paragraph 2? A. To stress the efficiency of the new method. B. To show the drones’ imperfection. C. To argue for more funding. D. To prove AI’s accuracy. 30.What can be inferred about the process of discovering new geoglyphs? A. Drones were used for initial checks. B. Fieldwork confirmed AI suggestions. C. AI identified all geoglyphs precisely. D. Satellites ignored some new geoglyphs. 31.What do the scientists think the larger geoglyphs were likely to be used for? A. Wildlife adoration. B. Desert decoration. C. Special occasions. D. Road signs. 根据第一段“The Nazca people... are called ‘geoglyphs (地画)’。” 根据第二段“The first geoglyph was discovered... in two or three months.”和“Even so, the new method of turning up geoglyphs was much faster than the scientists could have managed without drones and AI.” 故选A。 3. 根据第三段“To find the new geoglyphs... about nine meters in length.” 根据最后一段“ The scientists also believe the larger geoglyphs are different and may have been used for celebrations or other special events.” C。 D Wouldnˈt it be wonderful to travel to a foreign country without having to worry about the headache of communicating in a different language? In a recent Wall Street Journal article, technology policy expert Alec Ross argued that, within ten years or so, we would be able to communicate with one another through small earpieces with built-in microphones. Thatˈs because technological progress is extremely fast. Itˈs only a matter of time. Such is the belief among certain parents that the technology is imminent and theyˈre wondering if their kids should learn a second language. Itˈs true that an increase in the quantity and accuracy of the data loaded into computers will make them cleverer at translating “Noes Bueno dormir mucho” into “Itˈs not good to sleep too much”. Replacing a word with its equivalent(对等词)in the target language is actually the easy part of a translatorˈs job. But even this seems to be a difficult job for computers. Itˈs so hard for computers because translation doesnˈt—or shouldnˈt—involve simply translating words, sentences or paragraphs. Rather, itˈs about translating meaning. And in order to infer meaning from a specific expression, people need to understand a lot of information all at once. Think about all the related clues that help us understand what someone is trying to say: volume, gesture, situations, and even your culture. All are likely to convey as much meaning as the words you use. Therefore, we should doubt a machine that canˈt understand our world like we do. If people from different cultures can upset each other without realizing it, how can we expect a machine to do better? Unless engineers actually find a way to breathe a soul into a computer, undoubtedly when it comes to conveying and interpreting meaning using a natural language, a machine will never fully take our place. 32.What does the underlined word “imminent” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Ready. B. Confusing. C. Unpractical. D. Coming. 33.Why is it hard for computers to replace a word with its equivalent? A. The real meaning of words can vary. B. Their data is not rich enough. C. Their accuracy needs big improvement. D. A manˈs soul hasnˈt been breathed in them. 34.What view does the author hold about translation? A. Proper translation can be difficult for computers. B. Slight differences donˈt matter in translation. C. Machines will translate our world properly. D. Cultures need more attention than words used. 35.What is the best title for the text? A. An Expertˈs Prediction. B. Travel without Headaches. C. The Pleasure of Translation. D. Will the Language Barrier Actually Fall? 由第二段“Thatˈs because technological progress is extremely fast. Itˈs only a matter of time. Such is the belief among certain parents that the technology is imminent and theyˈre wondering if their kids should learn a second language.(那是因为技术进步非常快。消除语言障碍只是时间问题。部分家长便是持这样的看法——他们认为这项技术imminent,并在思考自己的孩子是否应该学习第二语言)”可知,因为技术进步非常迅速,(消除语言障碍)只是时间问题,新技术即将到来,家长才会思考孩子是否应学习第二语言,可推断imminent意为“即将到来的(Coming)”。故选D。 2.  推理判断题。由第四段中“Itˈs so hard for computers because translation doesnˈt—or shouldnˈt—involve simply translating words, sentences or paragraphs. Rather, itˈs about translating meaning. And in order to infer meaning from a specific expression, people need to understand a lot of information all at once.(这对计算机来说太难了,因为翻译不——或者不应该——只涉及翻译单词、句子或段落。相反,它是关于翻译意义。为了从一个特定的表达中推断出意义,人们需要同时理解很多信息)”可知,翻译不仅仅是翻译单词、句子和段落,确切地说,它是有关意思的转换,为了推断一个具体短语的意思,人类不得不同时理解很多信息。故可推断出,计算机很难用一个词的对等词来替换该词是因为单词真正的意思是会随着语境的变化而变化的。故选A。 3. 由第四段中“Itˈs so hard for computers because translation doesnˈt—or shouldnˈt—involve simply translating words, sentences or paragraphs. Rather, itˈs about translating meaning. And in order to infer meaning from a specific expression, people need to understand a lot of information all at once.(这对计算机来说太难了,因为翻译不——或者不应该——只涉及翻译单词、句子或段落。相反,它是关于翻译意义。为了从一个特定的表达中推断出意义,人们需要同时理解很多信息)”和最后一段中“If people from different cultures can upset each other without realizing it, how can we expect a machine to do better?(如果来自不同文化背景的人在意识不到的情况下彼此冒犯,我们怎么能期望机器做得更好呢?)” 故选A。 4. 结合文章,第一段“Wouldnˈt it be wonderful to travel to a foreign country without having to worry about the headache of communicating in a different language?”和最后一段中“Therefore, we should doubt a machine that canˈt understand our world like we do. If people from different cultures can upset each other without realizing it, how can we expect a machine to do better?” Music is an important part of many people’s lives. It can be an enjoyable way to relax or to express emotions.       (36)      Understanding how music stress works and what can bring it on can help individuals better manage it. Music stress is a term used to describe a feeling of tension, or unease that can arise from listening to or playing music. This can appear in different ways, ranging from physical reactions to mental disturbances. Music stress can be caused by many factors.       (37)       For instance, certain types of music can call forth an emotional response, such as nostalgia (怀旧) or sadness.        (38)       Likewise, certain kinds of noise-like music, which makes disharmonious sounds, can cause people to become overwhelmed While this can be helpful for some special purposes, in some cases it can be difficult to handle and even add to stress. In addition to being caused by musical elements, music stress can also result from the psychological context where the music is heard or played. Take those who feel overwhelmed as an example.        (39)      Similarly, if someone takes listening to music as a way to escape current problems, the music can create a feeling of disappointment due to its failing to provide the desired effect.        (40)       Thus, the best way to prevent it is to ensure that the music being listened to or played is appropriate for one’s current mood and state of mind. Alternatively, if one is already feeling stressed, it may be better to focus on relaxation exercises or to take a break from music entirely. A. This can lead to increased stress levels. B. However, it may also lead to high stress levels. C. Music stress is caused by a specific type of music. D. And it can produce very specific types of reactions. E. Music may give them the feeling that they are not in control. F. Generally, music stress is determined by one’s mental state at the time. G. In some ways, music stress is similar to more general experiences of stress. 36.A. A B. B C. C D. D E. E F. F G. G 37.A. A B. B C. C D. D E. E F. F G. G 38.A. A B. B C. C D. D E. E F. F G. G 39.A. Qualities will determine what you can achieve. The quality I attach great importance to is the spirit of craftsmanship. From my perspective, the spirit of craftsmanship, which includes devoting ourselves to work, sharpening our skills and overcoming difficulties with perseverance, is the necessary and significant quality for us human beings. Take the clock restoration master, Wang Jin, for example. With skillful hands and a modest heart, he spent his whole life restoring clocks dating back to hundreds of years. The spirit of craftsmanship is what has helped a great number of achievement makers, and it is well worth possessing. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route(路线) through thick evergreen forest.     I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn't with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.     What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event!     I quickly searched the crowd for the school's coach and asked him what had happened. "I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him," he explained uncomfortably. "I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide."     I bit back my frustration(懊恼). I knew the coach meant well—he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.     David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer—that's all. David had not missed a single practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination. Paragraph 1:     We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn't look at me. ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2:     I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ 【答案】We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn't look at me. I said gently and quietly, "No one can change your mind, except yourself. If you desire to challenge yourself, there is nothing to do with others' thoughts." He sat still and took a deep breath. "You have full preparation before this event, which is the most important reason why you show up here, " I added with a sincere tone. Hearing my words, David turned to me. Trembling and with tears in his eyes, he expressed his firm determination to finish the cross-country run. His coach heard what David said and gave me a look—the kind that was more determined than anyone else's. I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The race started. It seemed that the runway was extremely long for young children, not to mention a child with a heart disease. David insisted on running as if he had forgotten all his weaknesses, though he was tripped over within a few kilometers. It didn't take long before he picked himself up again and continued his mission. Classmates all appeared on the racing track, cheering for him. "Come on! You can make it! We are proud of you! " they shouted enthusiastically. To everyone's joy, he reached the final line and ranked 20th. Whether he won first place or not no longer mattered. It was his brave heart and strong faith that could make something unusual happen finally. 【续写线索】 劝大卫正视自己与挑战——鼓励他别在意他人看法——真诚提醒他已充分准备——大卫落泪表达坚定决心——他起跑参赛奔向终点——跌倒后又爬起继续奔跑——同学们出现为他加油——最终完赛展现非凡勇气 【词汇激活】 行动类: ①深呼吸:with a deep breath/breathe deeply ②坚持做:insisted on doing/stick to doing 情绪类: ①热情:enthusiastically/with great passion ②骄傲:be proud of/take pride in 【高分句式】 ①"You have full preparation before this event, which is the most important reason why you show up here," I added with a sincere tone. It is always inspiring to read a story of someone who has gone through obstacles to reach his goals.     Jason Lester is a disabled (残疾的) extreme athlete. B Born and brought up in a small family in Kaliwal village in India, Veeranna Madiwalar had a childhood full of struggle. C In the desert in Peru, over 300 new ancient drawings were discovered by using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drones (无人机). D. Road signs. D Wouldnˈt it be wonderful to travel to a foreign country without having to worry about the headache of communicating in a different language? E. ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ 第1页,共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
