As a child,I used to spend summer weeks with my Granny and Grandaddy in Waycross,
Georgia.Though poor, they spoiled me with love. Both of them were very special to me,
especially my Grandaddy.
He became blind around 20 years of age,yet his blindness never slowed him down.He
served as a county commissioner for several years, worked the concession stand (at
the courthouse,cooked lunch,and washed dishes while my Granny worked.As a boy.I would
wateh him closely, studying how he moved around the house from room to room as if he could

see.I was impressed by how he transitioned from cooking to washing the dishes, never missing
a'beat.
At the concession stand, customers would give him money, and he would return the
correct change and provide them exactly what they ordered. When things were slow,he would
put his hands together and twiddle()his thumbs, which I found fascinating.I enjoyed
helping out, feeling grown-up as I handed customers their drinks and snacks.
It seemed like every time I stayed with him,in the evening we would visit someone who
was sick or pay our last respects to someone who had passed away.Despite his blindness,
nothing will slow him down or stop him from working and caring for others. His love for
people was boundless.During those weeks,he taught me many lessons that still resonate with
me today.I often think about him and sometimes catch myself when I am pondering at the
beach, putting my hands together and twiddling my thumbs,I'm grateful for the time I spent

If you want to embarrass yourself in front of a young person, try asking what "6-7"
means-a phrase repeated in schools like a magic spell. You'll likely be told it has no real
meaning-it's just funny.And isn't it a bit awkward that you're even asking?
"There's not really a meaning behind 6-7,"said Ashlyn Sumpter,10,from Indiana.Carter
英语试题第5页共12页
Levy,9,from Georgia,added,"I just use it randomly."Dylan Goodman,16,from Pennsylvania,
called it an inside joke that gets funnier every time an adult fails to understand it.Months after
"6-7"appeared in classrooms and online, confused parents and news outlets tried to explain it.
Dictionary.com even named it"word of the year",calling it "impossible to define".
This isn't new.Young people have long used silly phrases to confuse adults. But today,
such trends spread quickly online, helped by social media algorithms and content aimed at
explaining youth culture to adults."6-7"feels like a nonsense bomb thrown at this system-a
way for-youth to say:You can't figure us out.Some dismiss it as "brain rot".But maybe it's a
form of playful rebellion.Having grown up constantly being watched online, young people
may be creating inside jokes to protect their privacy and identity."I think they know everyone
is watching them,"said Alma Fabiani,29,of youth media company Screenshot.Turning the
joke back on the adults can be more fun-and more mysterious.
In 1992,a New York Times article on"grunge speak"included fake slang invented by a
young music employee. She later admitted she made up words to make fun of adult curiosity.
Now,with TikTok and Instagram, youth culture more visible than ever-and so is adults'
anxiety'to understand it.Newsletters and social media accounts make a business of decoding
teen slang:But the harder adults try,the more abstract the jokes become.
Kristen Choi,22,says her generation uses humor to deal with a confusing world. For Gen
Alpha, the next generation, the desire to be unknowable may grow even stronger. As one
middle-school teacher noted:"They have to go on to the next thing. It's not going to stop."So
if you finally understand"6-7",don't celebrate too soon-the next phrase is already on its way.
28.How did Dictionary.com describe the phrase"6-7"?
A.As a clear and useful new word.
B.As a phrase widely used by adults
C.As'a word originating from a music trend.

29.The term "brain rot"is used by some to express
A.their rejection of online games
B.their dislike of social media algorithms
C.their concern about social media's effect
D.their criticism of meaningless youth trends
30.What can be inferred about the future of teen slang?
A.Teen slang will continue to be abstract.
B.Younger generations will abandon teen slang.
C.Social media platforms will regulate its content.
英语试题第6页共12页
D.Teen slang will become commercially valuable
31.What is the main idea of the whole passage?
A.The specific meaning of the phrase"6-7".
B.How social media affects slang trends.
C.Teens'strange phrases as a form of identity protection.

Time flows in a continuous stream. As time unfolds, people need to group information
since there is too much to remember. Two courses appear to be involved in turning experiences
into.memories over time:The first integrates our memories, linking them into individualized
episodes;the other expands and separates each memory as the experience disappears. There's a
constant tug of war (between integrating memories and separating them, and it's this
push and pull.that helps form distinct.memories.This flexible process helps a,person
understand and find meaning in their experiences,as well as keep information.
McClay and Clewett, along with Matthew Sachs at Columbia University, hired composers
to create music designed to produce joyous, anxious, sad or calm feelings of varied.intensity.
Study participants listened to the music.while imagining a story to accompany,a series of
neutral images on a computer screen, such as a watermelon slice,a wallet or a soccer ball. They
also tracked moment-to-moment changes in their feelings using a tool developed for tracking
emotional reactions to music.
Then, after performing a task meant to distract them, participants were shown pairs of
images randomly.Participants had a worse memory for the order of items that spanned
emotional changes compared to items they had viewed while in a more stable emotional state.
These effects suggest that a change in emotion resulting from listening to music was pushing
new memories apart.
Memory integration was the best一that is,.memories of sequential(顺序的)items felt
closer together in time, and participants were better at recalling their order-when the shift
was towards more positive emotions. And a shift toward more negative emotions(from calmer
to sadder)tended to separate and expand the mental distance between new memories.
This finding has great promise for helping people with PTSD(创伤后应激障碍).“rIf
traumatic (memories aren't stored away properly, their contents will come flowing out
suddenly. This is why ordinary events, such as fireworks, can touch off flashbacks of traumatic
英语试题第7页共12页
experiences,such as surviving a bombing,"Clewett said."We think.we can use positive
emotions, possibly using music,to help those people put that original memory in a box and
sintegrate it so that negative emotions don't run over into everyday life."
3 What's the first paragraph mainly about?
A.Why expanding details can assist long-term recall.
B.How memory processes recreate personal meaning.
C:Why people selectively remember useful information.
D.How people process and transform information into memories.
33.What does the study focus on?
A.The changes in individuals'emotional states.
B.People's ways of stimulating their imagination.
C..The influence of emotions on memory formation.
D.People's preferences toward various musical works.
34.Which factor may prevent the formation of new memories according to the study?
A.The familiarity with music.
B.Negative emotional shifts.
C.Thesequence of our memory.
D.Complex informational input.
35.What does Clewett suggest as a potential treatment for PTSD patients?
A.Getting exposed to happy music regularly
B.Figuring out the causes of unfavorable memories.
C.Associating emotions with traumatic recollections.
D.Seeking positive aspects from traumatic experiences

For many years working as a leadership consultant.I've noticed that many of the leaders I
work with often feel frustrated when facing constant changes and uncertainty in the
increasingly difficult challenges of their roles.36Throughout their careers, leaders are
conditioned to come up with the final, correct answer.Given that humans'brains are hardwired
to see uncertainty as a risk or threat,it's physiologically normal to feel stressful when faced
with unfamiliar situations.
Sadly,in the world of leadership training,we often celebrate qualities like decisiveness,
innovation,.and resilience(适应力).37
Without it,even the most talented leaders
struggle to sustain their success.

According to the psychological definition, frustration tolerance involves the capacity to
bear discomfort, regulate emotional responses, and maintain a forward mindset in the face of
challenges.38 It not only allows leaders to stand the discomfort of building something
meaningful without giving up but also helps them stay grounded and purposeful, even when
immediate results aren't what they hoped for.
39
Leaders can train their frustration tolerance by pursuing goals outside of
leadership that don't offer instant rewards.Try going to the gym-teaching discipline, patience,
and the value of gradual progress. These experences build resilience and reinforce frustration
tolerance as a transferable skill40 Leadership and entrepreneurship are marathons, not
sprints ()Honoring your energy ensures you're better equipped to handle frustration and
maintain the stamina needed for long-term success
A.They quit their jobs ouf of the blue.

When Sarah started her new job at the marketing agency, she was full of excitement but
also a bit nervous. She had spent weeks researching the company's past campaigns and
practicing her presentation delivery, hoping to make a strong first impression.
As she walked to her desk, she noticed colorful Post-it notes covering the walls, each
written with brainstorming ideas from previous projects. She was assigned to a project team led
by Jake,a confident and experienced colleague who seemed to have everything under control.
At first,Sarah struggled to find her place. She often felt like her ideas were ignored during
team meetings, and Jake always seemed to favor another team member,Lisa, who was
outgoing and had been with the company for a year.During coffee breaks,Sarah would see
Lisa leaning on Jake's desk, laughing at his jokes as they leeked through design drawings.
Once, when Sarah tried to join their conversation,Lisa turned away mid-sentence to continue
chatting with Jake.It began to cross Sarah's mind that Lisa might be trying to embarrass her or
mess up her work.
One day,the three were given a crucial project with a tight deadline.Sarah worked hard
on her part, staying late to research consumer trends and working out campaign concepts on
blank paper. She even interviewed her neighbors to gather feedback on the product. When she
presented her plan,Jake quickly dismissed it,saying it was too risky.Lisa agreed with Jake.
Sarah felt defeated, staring at her slides as her teammates moved on to the next topic.
However,as the project progressed, problems started to arise. The initial plan that Jake
and Lisa had favored wasn't working as well as expected. The client had sent three e-mails
complaining that the ads felt ordinary, and the social media engagement rates were 40%lower
than projected. The team gathered in a conference room, looking at cnarts with worried looks.
Sarah decided to step up.
