Reading
Reading
When teenagers’ bodies and minds go through ① a period of rapid development, every part of their lives can be influenced. The magazine article below is about teenagers’ relationships with their parents. Before you read the article, think about the following questions:
What physical and mental changes ② do you experience as you become a teenager?
How do you deal with them?
What do you think "strangers under the same roof ③ " means?
Strangers under the same roof?
Does every dinner with. .your parents seem to turn into a battle ④ ? Have your once warm and open conversations become cold and guarded ⑤ ? Do you feel that you just cannot see eye to eye with them on ⑥ anything?【1】You are not alone. Heated arguments ⑦ and cold silences are common between teenagers ⑧ and their parents.
Teenagers’ physical changes may result in ⑨ such family tensions ⑩ . You may feel anxious ⑪that you are developing at a different rate ⑫ to your friends, shooting up ⑬ in height or getting left far behind ⑭ (that引导的宾语从句,作anxious的宾语。 .You might worry about your changing voice, weight problems or spots ⑮ . When it all gets too much, your parents are often the first targets ⑯ of your anger ⑰ .
It (形式主语)can be a big headache ⑱ to balance your developing mental needs(动词不定式短语作真正的主语。) too. You enter a strange middle ground ⑲—no longer a small child but not quite an adult ⑳ . You have both a new desire for ㉑ independence and a continued need for your parents’ love and support.
([写作特色]“both…and…” You feel ready to be more responsible and make decisions on your own ㉒ . Unfortunately, your parents do not always(部分否定) agree and that (that指代上文“your parents do not always agree”这件事。) makes you feel unhappy. "Why can’t they just let me go ㉓ ?" you may wonder. On the other hand ㉔, when you are struggling to ㉕ control your feelings,([赏析]作者用on the other hand来引出青少年有两种不同的心理需求。) you wish they could be more caring ㉖ and patient—sometimes they forget that growing up is a rough ride ㉗ .【2】 It can be difficult when your parents treat you like a child but expect you to act like an adult. All of this can lead to a breakdown ㉘ in your relationship.
Although sometimes it may seem impossible to get along ㉙ as a family(although引导的让步状语从句), you can take action to ㉚ improve the situation. The key to ㉛ keeping the peace( 动词-ing短语作介词to的宾语。) is regular ㉜ and honest communication. When you disagree with your parents, take a minute to calm down ㉝ and try to understand the situation from their point of view ㉞ . Perhaps they have experienced something similar and do not want you to go through the same pain. After you have thought it through ㉟ , explain your actions and feelings calmly, listen carefully, and address their concerns ㊱ . Through this kind of healthy discussion, you will learn when to back down ㊲ and when to ask your parents to relax their control.【3】
Just remember that it is completely normal ㊳ to struggle with the stress ㊴ that parent-child tensions create, and that you and your parents can work together to improve your relationship.【4】The good news is that this stormy period ㊵ will not last(that引导的表语从句). Everything will turn out ㊶ all right in the end, and the changes and challenges of your teenage years will prepare you for adulthood.

Family mealtime is when everyone at home sits down and enjoys a meal together. This can be at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It has been shown that families who eat together are healthier and happier. Experts encourage families to cook together, eat together, talk together, and make mealtime a family time.
Eating together helps build a close relationship between parents and children. It gives everyone in the family a chance to learn more about each other. Turn off the TV and do not answer the phone during mealtime. Instead, use this time to talk, connect, and make memories together. It is a lesson children will use for life.
Meals prepared at home are usually more nutritious(有营养的) than meals eaten while dining out. Children learn about correct portion(一份) sizes, food groups, and nutrition when eating with their family. Let children learn by serving themselves at dinner. Teach them to take small amounts at first. Tell them that they can get more if they are still hungry.
Eating with children can give them a sense of safety. Studies show that this decreases the chances that children will take part in activities such as smoking and drinking. Besides, eating at home saves the family money. It is cheaper to cook meals at home than it is to dine out. Get everyone involved in meal preparation. Letting children help prepare food will help them feel valued and part of the family.
Eating together as a family gives children an opportunity to learn and practice their social skills, table manners and conversation skills. Offer children new foods, but do not force them to eat them. Let them choose how much to eat. Children are more likely to enjoy a food when it is their own choice. It also helps them learn to be independent.
1.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Children should choose what to do during the mealtime.
B.Children are more willing to eat out with their family.
C.Dinner is a wonderful time to improve parent-child relationships.
D.Parents should ask their children to eat as much food as possible.

4.What is the most suitable title for the passage?

Everyone is shaped by the people and environment around them, but none so much as the family. For better or worse, our parents and other relatives have a great influence on our lives. 1 As we grow older, we may distance ourselves from them, but their influence remains.
One of the most obvious ways the family shapes us is through genetics(遗传现象). We get our physical characteristics from our parents, like hair color and eye color. 2 We also get tendencies (偏好) and talents, such as a musical talent. Even though we can't choose our genes, we can learn to accept the things that make us unique.
Another way the family shapes us is through its experiences. From an early age, we learn the habits, beliefs, and values of our family members. 3 We may not share all the same views as our parents or grandparents, but their influence is still there. In many ways, this influence is even stronger than genes when it comes to who we become as people.
4 The way our parents treat us and each other has a huge influence on how we see the world and how we treat the people around us. If we grow up in a household where we're shown love and respect, we are more likely to show love and respect to others.
There's no clear-cut answer to the question of nature or nurture(培养). 5 But many other factors(因素) also play a role. By understanding how our family shapes us, we can develop a deeper understanding of our own lives and relationships.
A.But genetics goes beyond appearance.
B.Finally, the family shapes us by example.
C.This can help create a sense of pride within the family.
D.In difficult times, our family is often the first place we turn to.
E.Over time, these things become part of us whether we realize it or not.
F.Our family plays an important role in how we develop as human beings.
G.They are the first people we learn from and the ones we model ourselves on.
