Growing up in England with a British father and a Chinese mother, I’ve enjoyed food from both countries ever since I was able to hold a knife and fork - and chopsticks!
Mum has sweet memories of the food from her home town in Sichuan, and often cooks spicy dishes. Thanks to this, Dad has come to love hot pot! But there are still some dishes that Dad dare not try even after many years of marriage to my mother. He once told me he was surprised by what he saw on the table when he first visited my mother’s parents in China. He was even shocked at their wedding when he saw how the Chinese ate almost every part of an animal. Even today, he still does not easily take to eating things like chicken feet.
But I enjoy that sort of food myself. Last week, I went to the butcher’s and asked, “Do you have pigs’ ears?” “NO,” the butcher said, pulling at his own ears, “just these ordinary ones.” He must have thought I was joking.
Dad can cook a super “full English breakfast” of bacon, eggs, beans, sausages and toast with butter - Mum and I just have to find a way to get him into the kitchen! He also does a typical Sunday roast. We all love roast beef and vegetables, but Mum says we’d better not eat too much roast food as it may make us suffer from heat inside our bodies, according to traditional Chinese medicine.
I’ll never forget my first visit to China. Mum encouraged me to try different kinds of food, and I did! I loved everything. But just when I thought I could deal with all Chinese food, I came across stinky tofu, a horrible grey thing that looked and smelt like a burnt sports shoe. “You needn’t try it if you don’t want to,” Mum said, but I gathered all my courage to take a bite and was amazed to find it wasn’t so bad. It reminded me of blue cheese, a similarly strong smelling type of food you either love or hate. Maybe I’ll fall in love with stinky tofu-someday.
People say that one man’s meat is another man’s poison, but I feel at home with food from both my cultures. To me, there’s nothing better than a cross-cultural afternoon tea of English biscuits and a cup of Chinese oolong tea in a fine china cup!
36. What can be inferred about Dad’s preference for hot pot?
A. He dislikes hot pot completely. B. He is shocked by the idea of hot pot.
C. He is indifferent to hot pot. D. He has developed a taste for it over time.
37. How did the butcher respond to the author’s request for pigs’ ears?
A. The butcher offered to sell the author his own ears instead.
B. The butcher showed the author a selection of different types of ears.
C. The butcher regarded the request ridiculous and made fun of it.
D. The butcher politely declined and directed the author to another shop.
38. Why does Mum ask us to avoid eating too much roast food?
A Because she believes it may lead to an unexpected imbalance in our body.
B. Because she thinks it may not as tasty and healthy as full English breakfast.
C. Because she is concerned about the cost.
D. Because she prefers cooking other types of food that interest us more.
39. What was the author’s reaction after taking the first bite of stinky tofu?
A. He immediately regretted his decision and spat it out in disgust.
B. He was pleasantly surprised and found it really wonderful.
C. He was initially hesitant but quickly realized it wasn’t so bad.
D. He didn’t care the taste and simply fell in love with stinky tofu.
40. What is the author’s attitude towards enjoying food from different cultures?
A. He believes one person’s favorite food is another person’s dislike and avoids trying new things.
B. He is indifferent to the idea of trying foods from other cultures and sticks to his own traditions.
C. He is hesitant to try cross-cultural foods but occasionally try them for a new experience.
D. He feels comfortable and at home with a blend of foods from different cultures.
C
The karst landscape along the Li River is widely considered representative of this kind of inland region. The main features of the river are the green hills, clear water, peculiar (奇怪的) stones and splendid caves. In a list of the World’s Top 15 Rivers quoted CNN, the Li River is the only one from China.
The popular Li River cruise (乘船游览) is the best way to enjoy the charm of the hills and water, and a boat can be taken from the Bamboo River Port. Floating down the river is like being taken into a landscape painting. As you pass hills, caves, bamboo forests and villages, it will be as though you are traveling in the picturesque scenes.
It is hard to take one’s eyes off the continuous undulating (起伏的) hills along the cruise. The hills with their various shapes are truly favors from nature and most of them are named after their extraordinary appearance. Open your heart and let your imagination fly! You will encounter the Elephant Trunk Hill, vividly resembling a giant elephant drinking water, Solitary Beauty Peak like a lonely goddess, Folded Brocade Hill like a pile of colorful silk, and Yangdi Village with a hill resembling a goat’s hooves.
A bamboo raft is a long-established means of the Li River transport. Without the noise of an engine, you will experience the near silence of the river and enjoy twist and turn of the scenery as you slowly drift along. The most beautiful section to appreciate in this unique way is between Yangdi and Xingping. For a one or two hours’ drift, you can start at Yangdi. But if you prefer to spend even more time drifting, you can take raft from the Crown Cave.
Scenery along the Li River is beautiful all year around. However, in fact, the river does not display all its charm during the dry period between November and January. This is when the shallowest stretch of the river is less than 3.3 feet deep. So, the best time to pay a visit is between April and October. After a lot of rainfall in spring, the river puts on a perfect show for visitors.
41. What is the main theme of the passage?
A. The cultural significance of the Li River.
B. The natural beauty and travel experience of the Li River.
C. The geological features of karst landscapes.
D. The impact of tourism on the Li River environment.
42. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a feature of the Li River?
A. Green hills. B. Clear water. C. Sandy beaches. D. Peculiar stones.
43. What does the author imply about the Li River’s cultural importance?
A. It is a symbol of Chinese traditional medicine.
B. It is the only Chinese river listed among the World’s Top 15 Rivers.
C. It is a place for scientific research on karst landscapes.
D. It is a meeting point of British and Chinese cultures.
44 How does the author compare the bamboo raft experience to the cruise?
A. The bamboo raft is faster than the cruise.
B. The bamboo raft offers a quieter and more immersive experience.
C. The bamboo raft is less safe than the cruise.
D. The bamboo raft is more expensive than the cruise.
45. What can we infer about the scenery of the Li River during different seasons?
A. The scenery is the same throughout the year due to consistent weather.
B. The scenery is more vibrant and beautiful during the rainy season.
C. The scenery is not affected by the river’s water level.
D. The scenery is at its worst during the dry period between November and January.

Mr. Boswell, the owner of a hardware (五金制品) store, was looking for a young man to hire. Several dozen young men responded to his ad, but he eventually narrowed his choice down to three. They are Ted, John and Bob. Then he devised (设计) a final test. He gave each of them a new screwdriver (螺丝刀) with an innovative (创新的) design and told them to deliver it to Mr. Henderson at 314 Maple Street.
After a while, Ted phoned the store to ask whether the number was actually 413, rather than 314. Later, he returned saying there was no house at that address.
When John came back, he reported that 314 Maple was a funeral parlor (殡葬馆) and that Mr. Henderson had lived at 314, but had moved away.
Bob took longer than the other two young men. Like John, he also discovered that Mr. Henderson had moved away but he managed to make sure of his new address and had gone there. Mr. Henderson didn’t remember ordering the screwdriver, but when Bob pointed out its unique features and told him the price, Mr. Henderson decided he wanted the screwdriver and paid for it on the spot.
Who was hired? Bob, of course. He was given a task to do and he did it. We shouldn’t let any difficulty put in our paths and stop us from reaching our goals. The secret to success in our lives is to do the common things uncommonly well. Persistence (坚持) and patience produces payoff in our lives. 【原文】Hello everyone, today we gather here to have a send-off party. Our English teacher, Miss Green, is going to return to her own country tomorrow. On behalf of all my schoolmates here, I express our hearty thanks to her. In the past three years, Miss Green has taught us spoken English. We enjoyed her lessons very much because her method of teaching was quite different from other teachers. The lessons she gave us were both lively and interesting. Everyone knows that she is kind and patient, but she is somewhat strict with us at times. She is loved and respected by us all. With her help, we have made rapid progress in English. All of us did well in the English examinations. We will never forget the time that we spent together in the English class. We have made up our mind to contribute to the society in the future, just as she did. Now she is going to leave our school. We thank her very much for her wonderful work and hope that she will be able to come back again. We wish her a pleasant journey. Thank you.

第四部分:写作(共两节,满分25分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容完成下列各题。
Even when it doesn’t appear to do so, it produces a payoff in character.
46. By writing the passage, what does the author want to tell readers? (No more than 8 words)

【46题详解】
考查主旨大意。根据最后一段“Who was hired? Bob, of course. He was given a task to do and he did it. We shouldn't let any difficulty put in our paths and stop us from reaching our goals. The secret to success in our lives is to do the common things uncommonly well. Persistence (坚持) and patience produces payoff in our lives. Even when it doesn't appear to do so, it produces a payoff in character. Persistence and patience leads to success. 或者Persistence and patience produces payoff in our lives.
【47题详解】
考查词句猜测。根据第一段中的“He gave each of them a new screwdriver (螺丝刀) with an innovative (创新的) design and told them (他给了他们每人一个新设计新颖的螺丝刀,并让他们)”和“to Mr. Henderson at 314 Maple Street (到枫树街314号的亨德森那里)”可知,他给了他们每人一个新设计新颖的螺丝刀,并让他们把它送到枫树街314号的亨德森那里。deliver在文中指的是“送,给,把……交给”。故答案为:Send./ Give./ Present.
【48题详解】

【49题详解】
考查细节理解。根据倒数第二段中的“Mr. Henderson didn’t remember ordering the screwdriver, but when Bob pointed out its unique features and told him the price, Mr. Henderson decided he wanted the screwdriver and paid for it on the spot. (亨德森先生不记得订购了这把螺丝刀,但当鲍勃指出它的独特之处并告诉他价格时,亨德森决定要这把螺丝刀,并当场付款。)”可知,Mr. Henderson接受螺丝刀是因为Bob向他指出了螺丝刀的独特之处并告知价格,他被鲍勃说服了。故答案为:He was persuaded by Bob.
【50题详解】
考查细节理解。根据文章最后一段“Who was hired? Bob, of course. He was given a task to do and he did it. We shouldn't let any difficulty put in our paths and stop us from reaching our goals.
