The robot, has successfully joined real antelope groups in nature. For many years, Tibetan antelopes were in serious danger. They were hunted for their soft fur, which is used to make expensive shawls (披肩). As a result, their population dropped greatly from one million to 65, 000 in the 1990s.  Thanks to strong protection effort, the number is now rising again. However, it is still difficult for scientists to study them closely. The antelopes live in the Hoh Xil National Nature Reserve (保护区), which is over 4,600 meters above sea level with cold and little oxygen. Also, the antelopes are very sensitive-they run away from humans 500—800 meters away. Traditional tools like telescopes cannot get close enough, and drones often scare the animals. So the robotic antelope was invented to solve these problems. Not long ago, the robot was recently tested near Zonag Lake where female antelopes go every summer to give birth. Unlike human scientists carrying cameras, the robotic antelope had a small hidden camera under its eyes. It looks just like a real antelope, sharing the same fur colour and body shape, so it doesn’t scare the animals. At first, the real antelopes seemed curious about the newcomer. But soon, it was accepted into the group to walk with the real antelopes and recorded videos. The robot uses artificial intelligence (AI), which allows it to “learn” as it moves. During the test, it successfully travelled 2 kilometers across challenging ground, like slopes (斜坡) and muddy wetlands, collecting valuable videos and data. Scientists believe this robotics technology can provide important information to support the protection of Tibetan antelopes, especially during birth and migration seasons, with very little human interference (干扰). 24.What was the population of Tibetan antelopes in the 1990s? A.1,000,000. B.65,000. C.4,600. D.500—800. 25.The word “sensitive” in Paragraph 3 probably means ________. A.casy to be scared or affected B.very friendly to humans C.difficult to see at night D.slow in moving. 26.Why didn’t the robotic antelope scare real antelopes? A.Because it moves very quickly. B.Because it works only at night. C.Because it makes friendly sounds. D.Because it looks like a real antelope. 27.What is the main idea of the text? A.It explains why Tibetan antelopes were in danger. B.It discusses the importance of protecting Tibetan wild antelopes. C.It reports how scientists use a robotic antelope to protect wild antelopes. D.It compares the differences between real antelopes and robotic antelope. 第二段指出研究发现:“their population dropped greatly from one million to 65, 000 in the 1990s”,这直接说明20世纪90年代藏羚羊的数量为65,000。 25.第三段说明原因:“the antelopes are very sensitive-they run away from humans 500—800 meters away”,并以藏羚羊见到人类会在500—800米外就逃跑为例,说明它们很容易受到惊扰或影响。 26.第四段说明原因:“It looks just like a real antelope, sharing the same fur colour and body shape, so it doesn’t scare the animals”,说明机器羚羊因为外形和真实藏羚羊高度相似,所以不会吓到它们。 27. C Buck did not read the newspapers, or he would know that trouble was coming. In fact, trouble was on its way for every strong dog with warm long hair. This was because men, going through the Arctic darkness, had discovered a yellow metal—gold. And because shipping and transportation companies were advertising the discovery, thousands of men were rushing into the Northland. These men wanted heavy dogs, with strong muscles for working and thick coats to protect them from the cold. Buck lived at Judge Miller’s house in the sunny-kissed Santa Clara Valley. There were big stables, low, grape fields, fruit gardens and a big swimming pool. Buck ruled over the whole kingdom. Here he was born and here he had lived the four years of his life. He protected the Judge’s sons and daughters at long midnight or early morning walks. On cold winter nights he lay at the Judge’s feet in front of the warm library fire. He was king—king over everything, crawled (爬行的), walked, or flew at Judge Miller’s place, including humans. Buck was this kind of dog in the autumn of 1897, when the discovery of gold in the Klondike pulled men from all over the world into the frozen North. But Buck did not read the newspapers. He did not know that Manuel, one of the gardener’s helpers, was not to be trusted. Manuel loved to gamble (赌博). He believed he could win but he was doomed to failure. On the night of Manuel’s betrayal (背叛), no one saw him and Buck went off through the fields. Buck imagined it to be a relaxing walk. They arrived at a little train. A man talked with Manuel and money passed between them. Manuel tied a piece of thick rope around Buck’s neck. Buck accepted it quietly. To be sure, it was unwanted, but Buck had learned to trust men he knew. However, when the ends of the rope were placed in the stranger’s hands, he barked. Then the rope tightened painfully, his tongue hanging out of his mouth. Then his strength disappeared, his eyes grew dim (浑浊), and he knew nothing when the train pulled up. Two men threw him into the baggage car. —Adapted from The Call of the Wild 28.Why were thousands of men rushing into the Northland? A.Because they could live a better life there. B.Because they might discover gold there. C.Because they could find the dogs they needed there. D.Because they wanted to enjoy the beautiful views there. 29.The trouble Buck didn’t know at first was that ________. A.he did not read the newspapers B.Judge Miller would ask someone to send Buck away C.men wanted heavy dogs to work for them in the cold areas D.Manuel was doomed to lose money when gambling 30.Put the following statements in the correct order according to the passage. a. Manuel sold Buck to a man                  b. Manuel and Buck went off through the field c. Manuel and Buck arrived at a train       d. Two men threw him into the baggage car e. His strength disappeared and his eyes grew dim because the rope tightened painfully. A.bcade B.cabed C.cabde D.bcaed 31.Which description about Buck is NOT true according to the story? A.He had lived in Judge Miller’s house since he was born. B.Life before the autumn of 1897 was enjoyable for him. C.Manuel could take him out of Miller’s house because he trusted Manuel. D.The Judge’s family betrayed him so he ran away quietly. 根据第二段第二句“This was because men, going through the Arctic darkness, had discovered a yellow metal—gold.” 29.根据第一段“Buck did not read the newspapers, or he would know that trouble was coming”和第二段的最后一句“These men wanted heavy dogs, with strong muscles for working and thick coats to protect them from the cold.” D Family is important to everyone. In both the East and the West, there are special holidays just for getting together with loved ones. Two great examples are the Mid-Autumn Festival in China and Thanksgiving in the United States. The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. Long ago, it was a time to celebrate the harvest (丰收). After farmers finished working in the fields, they would return home and enjoy a big dinner together. Today, people still follow this tradition. After the family dinner, people like to go outside, look up at the round and bright moon and eat the traditional food—mooncakes with some tea or wine (酒). For Chinese people, this full moon is a symbol of family reunion (团圆). Thanksgiving is on the fourth Thursday of November. Its origin (起源) dates back to 1620, when about 100 English settlers came to America on a ship called the Mayflower. The winter was very cold, but local people helped them. To show thanks, they had a big meal together for three days. Today, Americans still observe this holiday by getting together with their family. They go back home, have a big dinner and give thanks for what they have. On the table, there are many tasty dishes, like pumpkin pies, corn, and most importantly, a large turkey. After eating, people often play a fun game with the turkey’s wishbone (鸡叉骨). Two people pull on each end of the V-shaped bone and make a wish. If a person gets the larger part, he will have good luck. Both holidays remind people to value their families and the good things in their lives. 32.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A.The full moon is a symbol of long life for Chinese people. B.People usually eat pumpkin pies on the Mid-Autumn Festival. C.People pull a V-shaped bone to see who is lucky on Thanksgiving. D.People enjoy the moon and say thanks to others on the Mid-Autumn Festival. 33.Which sentence uses “observe” with the same meaning as the underlined word in Para.3? observe /əbˈzɜːv/ v. A.The scientist spent years observing different birds. B.“The test wasn’t that bad,” he observed with a smile. C.Please observe the school rules while you are in class. D.We observed the opening of a library with a small party. 34.What do the two festivals have in common according to the passage? ①Each festival has its own traditional foods.        ②They both last for three days with fun games. ③Each is a great time to give thanks for people’s lives.    ④People return home and get together with loved ones. A.①③ B.①④ C.②③ D.③④ 35.What is the best title of the passage? A.Special Foods in Two Countries B.History Behind Autumn Holidays C.Being Together: Two Family Festivals D.Different Traditions Around the World 【答案】32.C 33.D 34.B 35.C 【导语】本文介绍了中国的中秋节和美国的感恩节,两者都是家庭团聚的重要节日。 Two people pull on each end of the V-shaped bone... If a person gets the larger part, he will have good luck.(两个人拉着V形骨头的两端…… Americans still observe this holiday意为美国人仍然“庆祝”这个节日。A项意为“观察”鸟类;B项意为“评论”;C项意为“遵守”规则;D 项observed the opening... with a small party意为通过小型派对“庆祝”图书馆开幕,与文中“庆祝节日”的含义一致。 34.①正确,第二段提到中秋吃月饼(mooncakes),第三段提到感恩节吃火鸡等(turkey, pumpkin pies),都有传统食物;④正确,第一段提到 getting together with loved ones,第二、三段均提到人们回家(return home/go back home)与家人团聚。 On average, US firefighters get a fire call every 24 seconds, and a home fire breaks out every 87 seconds. A.NEWS&MORE B.Find out more C.Read more and get involved D.Watch now B Chinese scientists have developed a robotic antelope (羚羊) to watch over wild Tibetan antelopes-a species listed as “near endangered”. To learn more about students’ reading habits and offer better reading guidance, our club will carry out a survey this week. Please share your true reading experiences. With your feedback (反馈), we will further improve our club activities and help more students enjoy reading. Sincerely, Reading Corner Club This question quickly becomes a hot topic. Students hold different opinions about it. Here are some of their ideas. I believe it is better to read a whole book. This way, I can fully follow the story and catch all the important details. Besides, I learn beautiful sentences and useful new words from the book. This greatly helps me improve my reading and writing skills step by step. —Li Yutong I love reading book reviews because they collect different readers’ ideas. They tell me the advantages and disadvantages of a book. With these useful comments, I can clearly know if a book fits my taste. It is helpful for me to pick good books and stay away from boring ones. —Bai Jie I think reading book reviews is a better choice. I am busy with my studies every day and have little free time. Book reviews are short and clear. They directly show the main idea of a book. I can know what the book is about in a few minutes. It allows me to save plenty of time. —Liu Zixuan In my opinion, reading a whole book is much more enjoyable.
