Without action, the future of Changtu Island’s 13,000 people was in danger. So, Hu began encouraging fishermen to collect plastic rubbish and return it to land. Volunteers then sort and process it to sell to recycling companies. Since 2020, over 110,000 plastic bottles and over 80,000 boat batteries have been collected.
