Sellers take their own photos and list their items. They can also deal with the buyer directly. Another advantage of Poshmark is that it offers free shipping to sellers. It takes a 20% commission (佣金) on each sale over $15. If the sale is under $15, it takes a fixed commission of $ 2.95. eBay eBay is by far the biggest platform to sell used clothing and other items. It will get your items in front of millions of buyers and allow you to sell worldwide. eBay charges a 13% commission on everything you sell. You get 50 free listings a month. If you want to list more than that, you will need to open an eBay Store. ThredUp ThredUp works a little differently. Sellers needn’t take pictures, make lists, and ship items by themselves because ThredUp does the work for them! All sellers have to do is box up their things and send them in. All clothing must be in good condition. Shipping is free for both sellers and buyers. But buyers can’t negotiate (协商) with sellers for prices. Besides, it takes a 50% commission on each sale. Mercari Mercari has tools like “Smart Pricing”, which automatically (自动地) adjusts an item’s price to the average or the slightly above-average market price. It also allows buyers to search for an item via just a photo in addition to the text search. Usually, it shows both available and sold items. The platform earns a fixed 10% commission, plus 2.9%+$0.30 payment processing fees. 21. What is the similarity between Poshmark and ThredUp? A. Both require used clothes of high quality. B. Both offer free delivery services to sellers. C. Both permit direct negotiations on discounts. D. Both ask sellers to present the product details. 22. Which platform offers the highest profit to users selling a T-shirt priced at $10? A. Poshmark. B. eBay. C. ThredUp. D. Mercari. 23. What can we know about Mercari? A. It aids in the process of pricing items. B. It organizes sales promotions frequently. C. It removes sold items from the search list. D. It offers a wide variety of search methods. B This summer I came face-to-face with three deep-rooted fears: heights, bears, and ageing. Two friends joined me on a four-day wilderness getaway, and since we were all in our seventies, we decided we’d better go while we still could. Our adventure began with a scary drive up a winding mountain road. On one hike, I found myself hanging onto a wire on a bridge made of two partly rotten (腐烂的) logs, suspended high above rushing rapids. I would never have attempted it without our guide ahead, mouthing encouraging words. Fixing my eyes on her boots, I inched along the shaky logs. Somehow, I made it across, flooded with a rush of intense excitement and huge relief. Later, after spotting bear tracks, we were told to make loud noises, which soon became a game once the tension faded. Until suddenly, time stood still. We had just crossed a stream when the guide whispered, “There’s a bear.” I looked up in disbelief and saw not one, but two, about ten meters above us— the brown mother in front, her cub behind. Though scared speechless, I couldn’t help noticing how beautiful they looked in their natural setting. I wondered if it would be my last memory. As they started towards us, we recovered enough to shout and wave our hiking poles. Taken aback, they stopped, and then slowly turned away. Another fear was overcome! On our final morning, after a quiet, thoughtful walk through the forest, we were asked to bring back a “meaningful” stick, rock, and leaf to share what would “stick” with us, what “rocked,” and what we would “leaf” behind. The bond of friendship would stick with me. Women supporting one another truly rocked. And I hoped to leave some fears behind. Our guide ended by expressing her admiration, praising not only our fitness but also our positive attitude, and saying she hoped to be like us in another thirty or forty years. Those unexpected words warmed my heart and eased my fear of being “over the hill.” Being valued for what we had accomplished felt like winning an Olympic medal — even if just for participation. 24. How did the author cross the bridge? A. By taking mindful steps. B. By rushing across it bravely. C. By using her sense of direction. D. By having the guide drag her over. 25. Why did the bears leave? A. They were attracted by the natural setting. B. They were afraid of the noise of the rapids. C. They were surprised at the group’s actions. D. They were threatened by the guide’s rocks. 26. Why did the guide ask them for a stick, rock, and leaf? A. To pick up some souvenirs. B. To reflect on the journey. C. To symbolize their teamwork. D. To check their observation skills. 27. What does the underlined phrase “over the hill” in the last paragraph mean? A. Past the peak of youth. B. Too high to go down. C. Out of place in society. D. Beyond physical limits. C With a sun hat made of solar panels, a tea picking robot snakes its way through rows of Longing tea bushes in Hangzhou’s West Lake scenic spot, East China’s Zhejiang province. The 550-kg robot picker is a godsend for local tea planters this season. The upcoming Qingming Festival, which falls on Wednesday this year, is the major harvest period for early spring tea, and the local tea gardens are quite understaffed these days. Longing tea, also known as West Lake Dragon Well tea, is a kind of green tea. “The beautiful forms of a bud with one leaf or a bud with two leaves are often acknowledged as quality tea. And the picking work of such tea leaves has relied largely on hand-operated work, very difficult to be replaced by machines,” said Jia Jiangming, developer of the robot. However, most of the tea pickers in the production areas of Longjing tea are all in their 60s, few are in their 50s, and young people are not willing to land jobs in the industry. “If so, the Longjing tea industry may face great embarrassment when there remains nobody to help pick the leaves,” Jia said when explaining why his team started to develop tea-picking robots as early as 2019. Jia’s team introduced the model of convolution neural networks (卷积神经网络) in deep learning, enabling the robot to study many tea tree bud and leaf image data. Using binocular stereo (双目立体) vision, the robot can position where the target bud and leaf are, cut them off accurately, and then suck the leaves into its basket. Earlier this year, Jia’s robot helper developed into its fifth generation. The upgraded robot’s overall tea-picking success rate rose from 40 percent to 60 percent. “The new generation robot can do as well as a human tea picker,” said Chen Jianneng, another researcher of the team, adding that though the robot is still in its trial operation, they plan to improve its practicability, thus allowing the tea industry to enjoy benefits brought by modern mechanization in the coming future. 28. Why is there a lack of human tea pickers in the Longjing tea industry? A. Because machinery has taken the place of human tea pickers. B. Because the tea-leaf picking work can only be done by humans. C. Because human tea pickers are not capable of picking the target tea leaves. D. Because the young generation are not interested in the demanding job. 29. What can we learn about the robot tea-leaf picker? A. It can suck the damaged leaves into its basket. B. It can increase the quality of the early spring. C. It can help pick tea leaves accurately and intelligently. D. It can reach a higher tea-picking success rate than humans. 30. What does Chen Jianneng think of the new generation robot? A. The robot’s picking efficiency has been greatly increased. B. The robot cannot be put into use for it hasn’t been tested yet. C. The benefits of the robot are being enjoyed by the tea industry. D. The robot still needs improvements before coming into common use. 31. What is the best title of this text? A. Robot Joins Longjing Tea Harvest B. The Newest Robot Picker Enjoys Popularity C. Advanced Technology Is Used in Tea Industry D. Longjing Tea-Leaf Picking Work Faces Challenge D Chinese scientists have developed a new refrigeration method that solves a long-standing challenge in cooling technology. Published in Nature, the study responds to rising energy demands in applications ranging from food preservation to data center cooling. Traditional vapor-compression systems consume vast amounts of electricity and rely on harmful refrigerants. In China, refrigeration accounts for nearly 20% of the nation’s electricity use and 7.8% of its carbon emissions (碳排放). While solid-state cooling avoids harmful gases, it suffers from poor heat transfer, limiting its real-world application. Led by Professor Li Bing from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the research team overcame this by combining solid cooling effects with liquid flow. They used a common, non-toxic salt whose dissolution (溶解) in water absorbs large amounts of heat. Conversely, applying pressure causes the salt to come out and release heat. Cycling this pressure achieves continuous cooling. “Unlike traditional solid methods, where heat moves slowly, our system integrates the refrigerant and heat-transfer medium into a single liquid,” Li said. “This solves the ‘impossible triangle’ — achieving low pollution, strong cooling, and fast heat transfer all at once.” Lab tests showed a temperature drop of nearly 30°C in just 20 seconds at room temperature, and up to 54°C at higher temperatures — significantly outperforming existing solid coolers. A prototype cycle achieved a cooling capacity of 67 joules per gram with nearly 77% efficiency. The system also proved stable, reversible, and instantly responsive to pressure changes. “This technology moves beyond traditional refrigeration principles,” Li added. “By turning the coolant into a fluid, it opens the door to high-performance, zero-emission cooling for homes and industry.” He noted the method’s strong high-temperature performance makes it an ideal candidate for heat management in next-generation AI computing facilities. While engineering challenges remain, especially in achieving rapidly switchable pressure cycles, the principle could be adapted to other materials for diverse cooling needs. 32. What is the main problem with traditional solid-state cooling systems? A. They transfer heat poorly. B. They produce harmful gases. C. They fail at high temperature. D. They use too much electricity. 33. What is the key innovation of the new cooling method? A. Using salt instead of chemical refrigerants. B. Increasing pressure inside traditional systems. C. Replacing pressure cycles with continuous flow. D. Combining solid cooling with liquid heat transfer. 34. Why does the author mention the “impossible triangle” in the text? A. To highlight the value of the new system. B. To illustrate the design of the new system. C. To explain why old systems are still in use. D. To show the limitations of previous systems. 35. What does Li Bing see as a promising application of the new technology? A. Preserving food in supply chains. B. Replacing traditional home refrigerators. C. Cooling future AI data centers. D. Achieving rapidly switchable pressure cycles. Many people think they need to walk 10,000 steps every day to be healthy. But new research shows this is not necessarily true for everyone. Scientists say that about 7,000 steps per day can already be good for your health. ___36___ Dr. Melody Ding did this study at the University of Sydney. ___37___ She wanted to know how many steps people need to stay healthy, and whether one number could work for most adults. The studies included people of different ages and lifestyles, so the results were more reliable. ___38___ People who walked around 7,000 steps were healthier than those who walked only about 2,000. In general, walking more was linked to a lower risk of dying early, and a lower risk of heart disease and dementia (痴呆). The benefits increased quickly when people moved from very low activity to a moderate level. After that, the benefits still continued, but they rose more slowly. Where does the 10,000 — step benchmark (基准) come from? Dr. Sean Heffron says this number did not come from science. ___39___ A company made a pedometer (计步器) and called it the “10,000 steps meter”. The number sounded simple and motivating, so it spread worldwide. Dr. Martha Gulati, a heart doctor, does not fully trust round numbers like 10,000 because they are not always based on research. She suggests focusing on steady improvement instead of chasing one perfect number. ___40___ Just walk a little more than you do now — take the stairs, walk after dinner, or get off the bus one stop earlier. Small changes can add up and help your health. A. The number was easy to remember. B. The study gave people a simple answer. C. It became popular because of advertising in Japan. D. She reviewed many studies about walking and health. E. If you can’t walk 10,000 steps every day, don’t worry. F. The research compared people who walked different amounts each day. G. This may make many people feel less stressed, especially those who are busy. Xia Boyu is a 73-year-old Chinese mountaineer. Like any routine order, delivery driver Lisa Burnett accepted the request, picked up the items, and dropped them off at Schilling’s home. But the next day, Burnett noticed something surprising. Her earnings showed an extra $130. Concerned it might be a mistake, she contacted the company but was told the payment was listed as miscellaneous (杂项的). Still worried someone might have been accidentally overcharged, she checked the order details through the platform and found out it was Schilling who had paid. So she decided to do something many people might not have done — she went back to return the money. When Burnett arrived at Schilling’s home and explained why she came, Schilling checked her bank statement. Her eyes widened. She had indeed tipped $ 130 by accident — a careless click she hadn’t even noticed. “You came all the way back to return this?” Schilling said in surprise. The moment was captured on Schilling’s home security camera. Before Burnett left, Schilling asked for her phone number. That night, Schilling watched the video again. Burnett’s honest face and worried explanation stayed with her. “She could have very easily taken the tip, and I would never have heard from her,” Schilling thought to herself, “but she didn’t.” Touched by Burnett’s honesty, Schilling wanted to show her gratitude in a meaningful way. A few days later, Schilling invited Burnett back and surprised her with a new jacket and $250 in gift cards. “I can’t take this,” Burnett protested, but Schilling insisted. As they talked, Burnett finally opened up. Her voice trembled (颤抖) as she spoke: She had lost her daughter five years ago and was now raising her granddaughter alone. “She loves to draw,” Burnett added quietly, “but we can’t afford art supplies right now.” The words hung in the air, heavy with years of grief (悲伤) she had carried silently. Out of sympathy, Schilling decided to do more. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Days later, Burnett found a small package on her doorstep. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2025-2026学年江苏省南京高一下学期期末自编模拟卷 英语 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? A 25. C 26. B 27. 根据第三段的句子“Fixing my eyes on her boots, I inched along the shaky logs.(我盯着她的靴子,小心翼翼地沿着摇晃的圆木慢慢挪动。)” 故选A项。 25. 根据第六段的句子“As they started towards us, we recovered enough to shout and wave our hiking poles. Taken aback, they stopped, and then slowly turned away.(当它们开始向我们走来时,我们缓过神来,大声呼喊并挥舞登山杖。它们吃了一惊,停了下来,然后慢慢转身离开。)”可知,熊被作者一行人的呼喊和挥杖动作吓到,因此转身离开。故选C项。 26.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段的句子“On our final morning, after a quiet, thoughtful walk through the forest, we were asked to bring back a “meaningful” stick, rock, and leaf to share what would “stick” with us, what “rocked,” and what we would “leaf” behind.(在我们旅行的最后一个早晨,我们在森林里安静而沉思地走了一段之后,被要求带回一根“有意义的”木棍、岩石和树叶来分享哪些会“留存”在我们心中,哪些“震撼”了我们,以及我们愿意“放下”什么)”可知,向导通过这些自然物品引导大家反思旅程中的收获与感悟。故选B项。 27. 结合前文提到的“we were all in our seventies(我们都七十多岁了)”以及“ageing(变老)”这一主题,“over the hill”指的是已过青春巅峰、年老体衰的状态。故选A项。 C With a sun hat made of solar panels, a tea picking robot snakes its way through rows of Longing tea bushes in Hangzhou’s West Lake scenic spot, East China’s Zhejiang province. Longjing Tea-Leaf Picking Work Faces Challenge 【答案】28. D 29. C 30. D 31. 32. A 33. D 34. A 35. D. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【参考范文】 Out of sympathy, Schilling decided to do more. Deeply moved by Burnett’s hard life and silent sorrow, she made up her mind to help the little granddaughter realize her artistic dream. She planned to prepare various high-quality art supplies, including colored pencils, sketchbooks, paints and drawing boards. Meanwhile, she shared Burnett’s honest story online, hoping to gather more warmth and support for the poor family. Days later, Burnett found a small package on her doorstep. Opening it, she saw a full set of delicate art supplies and a warm letter inside. In the letter, Schilling encouraged her granddaughter to stick to drawing and promised to always support her. Burnett’s eyes filled with tears. She felt the genuine kindness from a stranger and was grateful for the warmth that lit up her tough life. The two kind-hearted women became close friends ever since. 词类激活 行为类 ①使感动:move/touch ②打算做某事:plan to do/intend to do/be scheduled to do ③打开:open/unfold 情绪类 ①悲伤:sorrow/sadness ②感激的:grateful/appreciative 【点睛】【高分句型1】Meanwhile, she shared Burnett’s honest story online, hoping to gather more warmth and support for the poor family.(运用了现在分词hoping作状语) 【高分句型2】She felt the genuine kindness from a stranger and was grateful for the warmth that lit up her tough life. Hey, tom, what subject do you like best?
