Almost all animals need to sleep to stay healthy. But sleeping can be dangerous because other animals may hunt sleeping animals. To help them stay safe, animals have many different ways of sleeping. Some of these ways may surprise you!
Some seabirds can sleep while they fly. These large birds spend most of their lives over the ocean. They are in danger on the water, but they are safe in the air. They glide (滑行) for many hours without moving their wings up and down. Sometimes they sleep while they glide.
A dolphin sleeps with just half its brain at a time. It must stay awake to breathe and to watch for danger. Dolphins can swim without sleep for two months to stay safe. Ducks sleep with just half their brains, too. These ducks often sleep in a line. The ducks at both ends help keep the group safe. They keep one eye open to watch for danger. The ducks in the middle sleep with both eyes closed.
Seals breathe air, but that doesn’t stop them from sleeping underwater. They hold their breath and dive deep to sleep for up to twenty minutes at a time. Some fish make their own sleeping bags. They make a big bubble and sleep inside it. It also keeps other animals from smelling them. If an animal hits the bubble, the fish swims away quickly.

When Anne was little, Marilla adopted her. Marilla looked on her as her own daughter. They lived happily together on a farm called Green Gables. When Anne was going to a university out of town, Marilla got sick.
Anne came back and found Marilla sitting by the kitchen table. She looked tired.
“Are you OK, Marilla?”
“I saw the doctor,” Marilla said sadly. “But it’s no good talking about it, Anne. Can you get me a cup of tea?”
“Could you tell me what the doctor said?” Anne asked softly as she brought tea to Marilla.
“He said I must give up all reading, sewing, and farming, or I will go blind.”
“Marilla, don’t think of it,” said Anne. “There is still hope.”
“I don’t know,” said Marilla. “I’m afraid I have to sell Green Gables.”
Anne was surprised. “Oh, Marilla, you can’t! It’s our home!”
“What else can I do, Anne? I’m sorry you won’t have a home to come to during your university holidays.” Marilla began to cry.
That night, Anne sat in the darkness, alone with her tears and heavy heart. But before long, there was a smile on her lips (唇角) and peace in her heart.
The next day, she spoke with Marilla. “You mustn’t sell Green Gables. I’m going to teach here. I can’t leave you alone, Marilla. We’ll be happy together.”
“Oh, Anne, you can’t do that for me.”
“But I want to! Nothing is worse than giving up our home.”
“But your dreams…”
“My dreams are the same: to be a good teacher, and to help you stay healthy. Nobody loves Green Gables as we do. We must keep it.”
Most people, not knowing about Marilla’s eyes, thought Anne was foolish. Mrs Lynde, their neighbour, did not. She often found Anne and Marilla sitting outside their home. They liked sitting there at dusk, when the smell of flowers filled the air.

Different people have different ideas about whether friends should be similar or different. In my opinion, friends don't need to be the same. My best friend is Lily. We have many differences.
In appearance, I am tall, but she is short. She has big eyes and short hair. As for personality, I am quiet, while she is very outgoing. We also have different strengths. She runs faster than me, and I sing better than her. However, we share the same habits. We both get up early and work hard.
Although we are different in many ways, we are best friends. I think differences make our friendship more colorful.
