Did you put your old clothes into the donation (捐赠) box in your community? If not, you can do it right now because the clothes donation is very popular (流行的).
“From time to time, my mother clears out the clothes that I don’t wear. You know, we children are growing fast. I think it’s a good way to help others”, Lin Tao, a middle school student says.
“I often pick out some of my clothes that are out of style (过时的) after going shopping. Then I’ll put them into the donation box,” Miss Li, a pretty young lady says.
“That’s a good idea. Some clothes in the box are new. People can wear them or use them to make things such as bags,” Mrs. Wang, an old woman says.
But there are some problems along with the popularity of clothes donation. Here are the results of a survey.
◆Many clothes are too old.
◆The box is full of clothes in a short time. There is no more room for people to give away clothes.
◆Some people sell the clothes in the donation box for making money.
◆Some communities set the box in unsuitable places. So there are few clothes in it.
One of the workers in a community adds,“We often see people throw rubbish into the box when they pass by. We tried to stop them but they didn’t listen. That is a big problem.”
To make the donation box work well, our government (政府) is taking action. Clothes donation will be more convenient for people in need to take the clothes away.

C
Many teenagers complain about strict family rules, saying parents limit their freedom. However, family rules are necessary for every family, and they help teenagers grow into polite and responsible people. Here are three reasons why we need family rules.
First, family rules teach us good manners and respect for others. For example, many families set rules like “don’t shout at family members”, “say thank you when others help you”, “wait for everyone to sit down before starting meals”. These small rules train us to be polite at home, and we will carry these good manners to school and public places. If there are no rules, kids may speak loudly, interrupt others’ talks or take others’ things without asking, which makes them impolite to people around them.
Second, family rules keep our daily life organized. Rules such as “finish homework before watching TV”, “go to bed before 10 p.m.”, “clean your own room every weekend” help us form good living and study habits. Without rules, many teenagers stay up late playing games, put off homework until midnight and leave their rooms in a mess. Good habits built by family rules will benefit us for a long time when we study and work in the future.
Third, family rules protect our safety. Parents make rules to stop us from dangerous things: “don’t go out alone at night”, “don’t talk with strange people online”, “don’t ride bikes on busy roads without adults”. Teenagers don’t have enough experience to judge risks, so these rules keep us away from traffic danger, bad people and bad online information. Some teenagers hate these rules because they want to hang out with friends freely, but parents just worry about their safety.
Of course, family rules shouldn’t be too strict. Parents should listen to teenagers’ ideas and change some unreasonable rules together. For example, if a teenager finishes all homework well, parents can allow him to watch TV for 30 minutes. Rules are not fights between parents and kids; they are a way to make our family warm and orderly. Instead of complaining, we should understand the love behind every family rule.
21.What’s the first reason for family rules?
A.Keep daily life organized. B.Protect teenagers’ safety.
C.Teach good manners and respect. D.Help form study habits.
22.Which rule helps organize daily life?
A.Don’t shout at family. B.Finish homework before watching TV.
C.Don’t go out alone at night. D.Say thank you for help.
23.Why do parents make safety rules?
A.To stop kids from playing outside. B.Because teenagers can’t judge risks well.
C.To limit kids’ online time. D.Because they hate kids hanging out.
24.What’s the writer’s advice on family rules?
A.Follow all rules without questioning.
B.Parents make all rules alone.
C.Talk and change unreasonable rules together.
D.Break strict rules when parents don’t see.
25.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Why We Need Family Rules B.Different Kinds of Family Rules
C.Teenagers’ Complaints About Rules D.Good Manners at Home

根据文中Miss Li说的话“I often pick out some of my clothes that are out of style... Then I’ll put them into the donation box(我经常挑出一些过时的衣服……然后把它们放进捐赠箱)”,可知她捐赠衣服是因为衣服过时了(out of style)。
12.根据文中划线部分所在语境(Mrs. Wang说的话)“Some clothes in the box are new. People can wear them or use them...(箱子里的一些衣服是新的。人们可以穿它们或用它们……)”,这里的them指代的是前文提到的“Some clothes in the box(箱子里的一些衣服)”。
13.根据文中列举的捐赠箱存在的问题“Many clothes are too old(衣服太旧,对应D项);The box is full... no more room(箱子满了没空间,对应A项);Some people sell the clothes(有人卖衣服,对应B项);set the box in unsuitable places(位置不合适);以及工人提到的throw rubbish(扔垃圾)。文中并未明确提到捐赠箱里的衣服“不够干净(not clean enough)”这一具体问题。
14.划线单词unsuitable,由前缀un-(表示否定)和suitable(合适的)组成。根据后文“So there are few clothes in it(所以里面几乎没有衣服)”可知,箱子设置的位置不好,导致没人捐赠。

第二段“First, family rules teach us good manners and respect for others.”
22.第三段“Second, family rules keep our daily life organized. Rules such as ‘finish homework before watching TV’, ‘go to bed before 10 p.m.’, ‘clean your own room every weekend’ help us form good living and study habits.”
23.第四段“Teenagers don’t have enough experience to judge risks, so these rules keep us away from traffic danger, bad people and bad online information.”
24.最后一段“Parents should listen to teenagers’ ideas and change some unreasonable rules together.”
25.文章第一段就点明主旨“Here are three reasons why we need family rules.”,全文都在解释我们为什么需要家规,因此A选项“我们为什么需要家规”是最佳标题。

Last Saturday, the students from Sunshine Middle School took part in a community clean-up activity. It was organized by the school volunteer club. More than 50 students joined in.
The students gathered at the community square at 8:00 a.m. The club leader divided them into different groups. Some students were responsible for picking up litter in the park. Others helped clean the public benches and sweep the pathways. A few students went to the nearby bus stops to wipe the signs and seats.
Li Hua, a Grade 7 student, said, “At first, I thought it was just about cleaning. But when I saw people smiling at us and saying ‘thank you’, I felt very proud. I realized that even small things can help make our community better.”
