China’s Shenzhou-23 Mission: A Big Step in Space
China sent up the Shenzhou-23 manned spaceship successfully at 11:08 p.m. on May 24, 2026. A Long March-2F rocket (长征二号F型火箭) carried the spaceship into the sky from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center (酒泉卫星发射中心). It flew for about 10 minutes and got into its planned space orbit (轨道) safely. This is the first of China’s three manned space tasks in 2026.
This space mission has many new and meaningful achievements. The three astronauts are Zhu Yangzhu, Zhang Zhiyuan and Li Jiaying. Li Jiaying is the first astronaut from Hong Kong. What’s more, the team will try a hard new challenge: one astronaut will stay in space for a whole year. It will be one of the longest space stays around the world.
Scientists also made many useful changes to the Shenzhou-23 spaceship. Earlier, a window on Shenzhou-20 was broken by small space rubbish. To fix this problem, workers made stronger windows for Shenzhou-23. The new windows have three protective layers (层), so they are much safer.
Besides, the spaceship can now bring back more experiment materials to Earth. Before, it could only carry around 50 kilograms of things on the way back. Now its load is over 100 kilograms. With more space for research things, scientists can get more results from space experiments.
The successful launch shows China is making steady progress in space exploration. It also helps prepare for China’s future manned trip to the moon.
19.Why did engineers strengthen the windows of Shenzhou-23?
A.Space rubbish once damaged a window of a former spaceship.
B.The old windows could not help astronauts look outside.
C.The new three-layer windows cost much less than before.
D.People wanted to make the spaceship look more beautiful.
20.What can we know about the return load (承载量) of the spaceship?
A.It is just 50 kilograms now. B.It becomes more than twice as large as before.
C.It can carry 150 kilograms at most. D.It is only used to carry astronauts’ daily things.
21.What is one of the great difficulties for this space mission?
A.Building a new space station in space.
B.Making a future trip to the moon right now.
C.One astronaut will live in space for twelve months.
D.Walking in space every day during the mission.
22.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.The history of China’s space exploration.
B.The meaning of the successful launch of Shenzhou-23.
C.The future plans for all Chinese spaceships.
D.Different tasks of China’s 2026 space missions.
C
Glaciers (冰川) hold about 70% of the earth’s fresh water. They are large pieces of closely packed (压缩的) ice and snow. Glaciers only form in places where it is very cold. Every year, new snow falls on top of the old snow. The layers (层) of snow press down on each other, and then the snow crystals (雪晶) start to change. They get smaller, and the air is pushed out of the snow. This allows the crystals to grow longer. Over time, the snow layer at the bottom becomes ice. The whole process of making a glacier takes about 100 years.
The snow on top of a glacier looks white because it reflects (反射) all of the light. However, the ice layers are packed so closely that they look like they are blue. The reason is that the ice doesn’t have much air, so it absorbs different parts of light and reflects blue light.
Some of the glaciers on the earth may be very old. Scientists think that a few glaciers have ice that is about 8 million years old. Not all of the glaciers are that old, though. A number of glaciers in Alaska (阿拉斯加) are only about 100 years old.
There are different kinds of glaciers. An ice stream is a kind of glacier that forms on another glacier, and it looks like a frozen river. Rock glaciers are made when ice, rock, and other objects get mixed together.
23.Which is the correct process (过程) of forming a glacier?
①New snow falls on top of the old snow.
②The snow crystals grow longer.
③Air is pushed out of the snow.
④The layers of snow press down on each other.
⑤The snow layer at the bottom becomes ice.
A.⑤①②④③ B.①④③②⑤ C.①④②③⑤ D.⑤④②①③
24.The underlined word “absorbs” in Paragraph 2 probably means “________”.
A.takes in B.carries out C.gives up D.cuts down
25.Why does the writer talk about Alaska’s glaciers?
A.Because the writer thinks there are a number of glaciers in Alaska.
B.Because the writer thinks they are the oldest glaciers on the earth.
C.Because the writer explains the rocks in them are valuable.
D.Because the writer explains not all of the glaciers are very old.
26.How does the writer support his idea in the last paragraph?
A.By giving examples. B.By showing numbers.
C.By giving opinions. D.By telling stories.

In recent years, the environmental problems on Mount Qomolangma have become increasingly serious. More rubbish is left on the mountain, but its cleanup can be really difficult. And Mount Qomolangma is not good at cleaning itself.

The climbers should respect nature, follow the rules, and keep this great natural place beautiful. With these useful things done, the great wonder of the world will certainly become clean and safe.
27.Why is it difficult to climb Mount Qomolangma?
A.Because of the increasing climbing price.
B.Because of the terrible natural conditions.
C.Because there are few guides to help climbers.
D.Because most climbers are unable to use climbing tools well.
28.What do the underlined words “relies on” probably mean?
A.Looks for. B.Depends on. C.Gives up. D.Cuts down.
29.What is the main purpose of raising the climbing permit price?
A.To help reduce the number of climbers.
B.To offer people a better climbing experience.
C.To encourage climbers to change their climbing time.
D.To deal with financial and environmental problems.
30.What does the writer feel about the future of Mount Qomolangma?
A.Angry. B.Unsure. C.Hopeful. D.Worried.
第二节 任务型阅读(共5题,每小题2分,满分10分)
What makes a person successful? Many people attribute it to talent or good luck, but I believe the following three things are of great importance. .
A clear goal gives you a direction. Maybe you want to be a doctor, a teacher, or an engineer in the future. You need to know where you are going. Without a goal, it is easy to feel lost. . For example, if you dream of being a writer, you will read more books and write more often. Your goal guides every choice you make each day.
Growing up is not always easy. You may learn something new, or try to get over a failure. These things can be tough. But these hard times help us become stronger. . Think about learning to ride a bike: you fell down many times and it hurt, and you even wanted to stop. But you kept trying, and finally you could ride. That skill will stay with you forever. Problems in school or life are just the same. Today’s difficulties can become tomorrow’s strengths.
Remember, nobody can succeed all by himself or herself. Even a very smart person needs a team. In a good team, people trust each other and talk openly. They help each other when things get difficult. . A strong team can do great things. One person cannot do these things alone. This is true in almost every job. Bosses today want people to work well with others.
So success is not just about being the smartest or the luckiest. It comes from knowing what you want. It comes from facing hard times bravely. And it comes from getting along well with people around you. Start working on these three things now. Then you will be ready for the future.
A.A clear goal turns your big dream into small daily steps.
B.Without trust, a team is just a group of people standing together.
C.They are the real keys to success.
D.The hard times you go through today are signs that you are growing.
E.Some people are born with special talents, but everyone can work hard.

23.根据第一段内容“Every year, new snow falls on top of the old snow. (①) The layers of snow press down on each other, (④)...and the air is pushed out of the snow. (③) This allows the crystals to grow longer. (②) Over time, the snow layer at the bottom becomes ice. (⑤)”可知,冰川形成的正确顺序是:新雪落在旧雪上→雪层相互挤压→空气被挤出→雪晶体变长→底部雪层变成冰。即①④③②⑤。对应选项B。
24.第二段提到“The reason is that the ice doesn’t have much air, so it absorbs different parts of light and reflects blue light.”可知,冰层没有太多空气,因此它会“吸收”不同部分的光线并反射蓝光。absorbs意为“吸收”,与选项A”Takes in (吸收/接纳)”意思相近。
25.第三段提到“Not all of the glaciers are that old, though. A number of glaciers in Alaska are only about 100 years old.”,作者提到阿拉斯加的冰川只有约100年历史,是为了支撑前一句的观点,即解释并非所有的冰川都非常古老。
