After 25 years of hard work, a new kind of tree-like pepper finally grows pretty well in Shaodong, Hunan. Li Pei and his team’s amazing work created this special pepper. It makes pepper farming more efficient and eco-friendly.
At first, many people don’t believe pepper plants can grow like trees. The team kept trying to solved problems and created a strong type of pepper. It can grow well in many places, such as Hunan, Beijing and Shanghai. The biggest new idea is vertical (垂直的) planting. The pepper plant can grow into a 2-meter-tall “tree” in only two months. This way, farmers can grow more peppers in the same area and use the space well. When farmers grow the peppers in greenhouses, the plants won’t get hurt by drought (旱灾) or heavy rain. What’s more, picking the peppers is easy. Farmers can stand or use small ladders to get the peppers, instead of bending (蹲) down all the time.
Zhang Feihua is a local farmer. He tries planting this new kind of pepper. The planting cost is the same as traditional peppers. It is about 3,000 yuan per mu (亩). But each tree-like pepper plant can produce (收获) 15 kg of peppers every year. That’s over four times more than traditional pepper plants. His first harvest brings him over 10,000 yuan per mu.
Now, Li’s team is introducing this type of pepper in other cities in Hunan through online lessons and on-site training. Although it needs greenhouses and takes quite some time to fully grow, they still plan to bring it to Yunnan, Guizhou and other places where people love spicy food.
3. How long does the pepper plant need to grow 2 meters tall?
A. 2 months. B. 2 years. C. 25 years.
4. What does the underlined word “ladder” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
5. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. It costs more money to plant this new kind of pepper.
B. It needs much space to plant this new kind of pepper.
C. It brings farmers more peppers to plant this new kind of pepper.
6. What does the writer write the passage for?
A. Introducing a new type of pepper and its benefits.
B. Advising farmers to learn new planting skills online.
C. Showing how to grow tree-like peppers in greenhouses.

On a nice afternoon, my friend Joe invited me to go fly fishing by a small river near our neighborhood. The water ran gently over the rocks, and the air was filled with peace. I held my fishing rod tightly and watched the small fly dance on the water’s surface (表面). Would I catch any fish? I felt a little nervous but excited.
Soon, I found that fly fishing was much more difficult than usual fishing. Every time I threw the line, I needed to focus all my attention. I tried my best, but the line got tangled (缠结) several times. Joe was much better at fly fishing. He seemed to be able to keep calm all the time. I watched him and didn’t know why I couldn’t do it like that. Joe noticed my worries and came to help me out. He taught me how to keep better balance (平衡) and be more patient. With his help, I finally could feel deeply calm.
After about 40 minutes, I felt a light pull on the line. “Quick, lift the rod!” Joe shouted loudly. I did as he said, and a small fish was on the hook (钩)! We jumped with more joy than ever. It was truly a wonderful experience for me!
The fishing trip wasn’t just a fun afternoon to me. I learned that patience and calmness are so important. With more of them, I’m ready to face new challenges. I will take one step at a time, because growth takes time! I believe this small trip will build a better me in the future.

A 4. B 5. C 6. A
根据第二段“The pepper plant can grow into a 2-meter-tall ‘tree’ in only two months.”
根据第二段“Farmers can stand or use small ladders to get the peppers, instead of bending down all the time.”
根据第三段“Zhang Feihua is a local farmer. He tries…brings him over 10,000 yuan per mu.”
