My mother and I were staying in a town near Pompeii. The earth shook those days. That night, I was sleeping when the ground shook very hard. My mother rushed into my room to wake me up. We had to stay outside for the night. My mother was so scared. She didn’t shut her eyes for even one second. By six o’clock the next morning, many buildings were still shaking. We decided to leave the town.
The road was crowded. We were at a place out of town. Just then, shocking things happened. Our coach (四轮大马车) couldn’t go straight ahead. It began to move from side to side. The sea moved back suddenly, and many sea animals were left on the sand.
We noticed a very dark cloud over Mount Vesuvius (维苏威火山 ). Soon, the cloud moved down and covered the sea. My mother asked me to continue without her, but I refused to leave her behind. We moved on while the cloud was spreading over the land like a flood. It turned day into night. The air was thick with smoke and ash (火山灰) began to fall in heavy showers. All around us, women were calling, children were crying and men were shouting. People were trying to find their families in the dark.
Thankfully, after a while, the daylight returned! Everything was covered in ash, like the snow in winter. After a night of living between hope and fear, we had no thoughts of things to come.

Anger isn’t a good feeling. Anger may make us feel uncomfortable, but it’s seen everywhere. Unluckily, many of us have been used to keeping our feelings hidden. Research suggests that this can have long-term bad influences on your health.
Is it better to cry or break things whenever something makes us angry? The research points out that when we show our anger in this way, we probably can’t get on well with our friends and our family. The longer we stay angry, the worse the result will be. So how can we deal with our angry feelings in a right way?
First, know what makes us angry. Anger is often caused by feelings such as fear, disappointment and so on.
Also, care more about those everyday things that will make us angry. For example, we may get angry in the long lines at the store. Take a step back and think that it isn’t personal. Everyone in the line has dinner to make, just like us. One way to deal with anger is to talk about it. The study has shown that if we name our feelings, we can slowly calm ourselves down and feel better.
Take some deep breaths or find some helpful exercise to do. Exercise helps with feelings of anger.
If we learn to deal with anger, we will be happier and healthier.

The 24 Solar Terms is a traditional Chinese time-calendar system with a history of over 2,000 years.

On May 12th every year, China holds National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day (全国防灾减灾日). We set up this special day to teach people practical (实用的) safety knowledge and necessary survival (生存) skills.
For middle school students, it’s very important to learn some survival skills to prepare for sudden earthquakes. First of all, when an earthquake happens, we must stay calm and never panic or shout loudly, which can help us take action wisely and avoid unnecessary accidents. Second, we should hide under desks in time and avoid falling objects from hitting us, such as windows, lights and other easy-to-break objects. Third, after the earthquake stops, we should not rush out at once. We need to check if there is any danger around first, and then leave the room in an orderly way.
Using these earthquake safety skills brings us a lot of benefits—it can not only protect us from danger but also reduce our fear when facing disasters. Many schools in China hold regular earthquake drills (演习) to help students practice and remember these skills. In order to keep ourselves and others safe when the earthquake hits, we must be serious about the drills, follow teachers’ instructions carefully and learn these skills well.
