Recently, a new lifestyle called the low-carbon life is 7 to every corner of our country. The meaning of low carbon is 8 energy and no waste. It is such an important project that I can’t wait 9 my ideas about how to promote it.
First, we should 10 a no-car day every week in our school. Because cars not only cause serious air pollution but also waste energy. 11 the no-car day, neither students 12 teachers are allowed to come to school by car. We can walk or run, use our 13 and enjoy the fun.
Second, we had better not use plastic bags 14 . No one can stand the “white pollution”, 15 it is wise to use cloth bags which can 16 again and again.
17 , one thing 18 we should keep in mind is that every big thing comes from the small details. So, as students, we ought to turn 19 the lights when we leave a room, use 20 sides of paper, reuse our textbooks and so on.
All in all, it weighs greatly for all of us to put the low-carbon lifestyle into practice. Just set our minds to these: no-car days, no plastic bags and no waste. Let’s do it now.

A whole week with her nature-loving cousin Macy? D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R! Harper spelled in her head as the car stopped at a farmhouse.
Without saying hello, Macy stood holding a prickly (多刺的) plant in a plastic bag. T-R-O-U-B-L-E-M-A-K-E-R, Harper thought.
Aunt Debby waved. “You two run along, but don’t go in the stream. It’s high from the rain.”
As Macy was already heading for the woods, Harper groaned but followed.
“Is that poison ivy (毒蔓)?”
Macy spread the vine’s leaves. “No, this has five leaflets on each leaf. Poison ivy has three.”
Harper giraffe-stepped over the plants, watching for three-leaflet vines. She didn’t hear the rushing stream until they were very close.
The water was racing. Something was coming towards them, holding onto a piece of wood.
“What’s that?” Harper asked.
Macy’s eyes widened. “A field mouse.”
“Ew. Mice carry diseases.” Harper said.
“They’re also important,” said Macy. “They spread seeds and loosen the ground by digging holes.”
“Oh. _▲_.” Harper thought.
The mouse drew closer. “We have to save it!” Harper blurted, surprising herself.
She quickly ran to the ferns (蕨类植物) and asked Macy for help. They pulled out a large, strong fern to the stream. “We’ll help you.” Harper told the mouse.
They pushed the leafy end of the fern into the water. The wood caught on the leaf, but then it broke loose and started floating away again.
“Oh no!” cried Harper.
But then the mouse jumped! It landed on the fern leaf. Harper watched, amazed, as it dashed over the leaf to the bank and stopped to look at them.
“I think it’s saying thanks. You saved a mouse!” said Macy.
Harper smiled, “We saved it together—E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T!”
21.How did Harper feel when she giraffe-stepped over the plants?
A.Calm. B.Surprised. C.Relaxed. D.Nervous.
22.Which of the following is the most suitable for _▲_?

【答案】21.D 22.A 23.A
22.第十三段位于Macy解释田鼠的重要性之后:“They spread seeds and loosen the ground by digging holes.” 此前Harper一直认为Macy是“T-R-O-U-B-L-E-M-A-K-E-R”,但听了Macy关于田鼠传播种子、松土的知识后,她内心开始反思,意识到Macy并非只是个麻烦制造者,因此A选项“Maybe Macy isn’t just a troublemaker”最符合语境。

① The Three Gorges Dam (三峡大坝), lying on the Yangtze River in Hubei Province, is one of the largest and most amazing engineering projects in the world. It stands proudly between the beautiful mountains of Xiling Gorge, showing the wisdom and hard work of the Chinese people.
② The Yangtze River, China’s longest river, often caused serious floods in the past, bringing disasters to millions of people. To solve this problem and create clean energy, the Chinese government decided to build a huge dam.
③ People began to build the Three Gorges Dam in 1994. And it took over 12 years to complete. Thousands of workers used modern machines and technology to make this dream come true. They moved mountains, changed the river’s path (路径) to build the dam, which is about 2.3 kilometers long and 185 meters high—as tall as a 60-story building!
④ Today, the dam plays a key role in China. It has greatly reduced flood risks, protecting cities and farmlands. The dam’s power stations make clean electricity for millions of homes and factories, helping reduce air pollution. Its communicating‐vessels system (连通器系统) helps ships pass. Ships enter a lock (水闸), and gates close. Water level inside the lock rises or falls to match the next section. When the water levels become the same, gates open, and the ship moves to the next lock.
⑤ The Three Gorges Dam is not just a dam—it’s a symbol of China’s courage and creativity. Visitors from around the world come to see this modern wonder. Students learn about its scientific achievements and the spirit of teamwork behind it. The dam teaches us that with determination, humans can overcome even the most difficult challenges of nature.

① Controlling floods ② Making clean energy
③ Creating new tourist places ④ Improving ship transportation
A.①②③ B.①②④ C.①③④ D.②③④
28.What physics principle (原理) allows ships to pass through the dam’s gates smoothly?
A. B.
C. D.
29.Which is the right structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

A.To list the dam’s benefits to society. B.To describe challenges in building the dam.
C.To explain why Chinese people built the dam. D.To praise Chinese people’s wisdom and creativity.
根据第②段“To solve this problem and create clean energy...”和第④段“...has greatly reduced flood risks...helps ships pass.”
28.根据第④段“Water level inside the lock rises or falls to match the next section.”

Wearing in the UK and the US
These days, most people in the UK and the US do not wear very formally. But sometimes it is important to wear the right thing.
Many British people don’t think about clothes very much. They just like to be comfortable. When they go out to enjoy themselves, they can wear almost anything. At theatres, cinemas, and concerts you can put on what you like from beautiful suits and dresses to jeans and sweaters. Anything goes, as long as you look clean and tidy.
But in Britain, as well as in the US, men in offices usually wear suits and ties, and women wear dresses, skirts, or blouses (not trousers). Doctors, lawyers and business people wear formal clothes. And in some hotels and restaurants, men have to wear ties and tidy clothes.
In many ways, Americans are less formal than British people, but they are careful with their clothes. At home, or on holiday, most Americans wear informal or sports clothes. But when they go out in the evening, they like to look nice. In good hotels and restaurants, men have to wear jackets and ties, and women wear pretty clothes.
It is difficult to say exactly what people wear in Britain and the US, because everyone is different. If you are not sure what to wear, watch what other people do and then do the same. You will feel more comfortable if you don’t look too different from everyone else.
31.Why don’t many British people think about clothes very much?
A.Because they are poor.
B.Because they are too busy to think about clothes very much.

27.What are the uses of the Three Gorges Dam according to the passage?
① Controlling floods ② Making clean energy
③ Creating new tourist places ④ Improving ship transportation

30.What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing the text?
A.To list the dam’s benefits to society. B.To describe challenges in building the dam.
C.To explain why Chinese people built the dam. D.To praise Chinese people’s wisdom and creativity.

C.Because they just like to be comfortable.
D.Because they don’t want to do like that.

34.If David is wearing shorts, he can go to ________ in the UK or the US.
