One group wasn't watered for five days, another group had the stems cut off, and the last group remained untouched. The microphones caught sounds at a frequency of forty to eighty killer hurts from the first two groups. The sounds grew louder and louder during the five days of water stress. They then began to decline as the plants dried out. The researchers haven't yet discovered how the sounds are made. After the experiment, the team gathered the data and maid software that could tell how plants feel IT could be useful for farmers and monitoring the conditions of their crops. Nimble CHAMP Pro
Nimble has made a name for its responsible production practices, which involve using 90 percent post-consumer recycled plastic to create their products. Besides, purchases provide access to the company’s e-waste recycling program, which allows you to responsibly dispose of old devices free of charge. And their CHAMP Pro proves that they can both make a quality product and stick to environmentally smart manufacturing.
Anker SOLIX C800 Plus
It has a special telescoping and magnetic camp light, which is easy to set up and take down. Its large capacity can charge an ebike about once, making it perfect for outdoor trails.
Charmast Portable Charger with Built-in Cables

I had been confined to a wheelchair for eight years due to muscular dystrophy. Honestly, I thought I would never walk by myself again. I kept searching for something that could help me stand, but the devices available in Argentina were mostly designed for sports, not for people like me who had lost the basic ability to move their legs.
Then came the Canton Fair this April, where my friend Clara and I wanted to find some beauty products initially. When we passed by the service robot zone, a booth with exoskeleton (外骨骼装置) devices caught our eye. I waited in line for half an hour, my heart full of expectation and doubt. A staff member from Hangzhou Taixi Technology helped me into a lightweight belt-like device weighing just 1.8 kilograms. At first, I was nervous and held tightly onto my companion’s arm. But within minutes, something miraculous happened — I stood up. With the exoskeleton’s gentle support, I took a few steps, completely on my own. Every step I take feels tailor-made for me, comfortable and effortless, without to set anything. My friend broke down in tears beside me, covering her face with both hands.
I was overwhelmed too. For eight years, an electric wheelchair had been my only “feet”. In that moment, I felt truly independent for the first time. I hugged the staff tightly and could barely speak. Later, when the company invited us to Hangzhou to try upgraded models, we went without hesitation. Walking along the West Lake in traditional Chinese outfits, the rain wetting my face, I looked at my legs and said to myself, “Finally, my legs feel strong again.” I even joked, “I feel like Iron Woman!”
Before we left, the company gifted me my very own exoskeleton, specially adjusted so the left side provided extra support for my weaker leg. Back home in Argentina, I even appeared on our national television. Now I hope to introduce this incredible Chinese technology to my country so that more people can experience the freedom of walking again. The device is priced at just $1,200, making it truly accessible — technology with heart, changing real lives.
Those four steps I took at the Canton Fair were not just steps. They were a chance at life.
24.What can we know about the exoskeleton devices?
A.It is initially designed for sports. B.It has been widely used in Argentina.
C.It can only cure people with wheelchairs. D.It meets users’ habits automatically.
25.What does the author imply by calling herself “Iron Woman”?
A.She felt physically invincible and super strong.
B.She was describing the material of the exoskeleton.
C.It reflected her newfound strength and empowerment.
D.It expressed her desire to become a superhero in public.
26.What can we infer from the company?
A.It was invited by the national television in Argentina.
B.It was committed to helping individuals regain mobility.
C.It planned to recruit her as a spokesperson for their products.
D.It wanted to test the device’s performance in a foreign country.
27.What message does the passage convey?
A.Where there is a will, there is a way. B.Every journey begins with a single step.
C.True technology is designed for humanity. D.International fairs are vital for life changes.
C
Conventional wisdom holds that transitioning from oil to plant-based biofuels (生物燃料) carries numerous green advantages. For many people, since such fuels are obtained from agricultural crops, they are naturally renewable. And our own farmers typically produce them domestically, reducing our dependence on unstable foreign sources of oil. Additionally, they cause less pollution than traditional fuels. They also do not have much of contribution of greenhouse gases to the global climate change problem.
Despite the upsides, however, experts point out that a total shift from gas to biofuels, given the number of gas-only cars already on the road and the lack of biofuel filling equipment, would take some time.
Another major obstacle to widespread adoption of biofuels is the challenge of growing enough crops to meet demand — something doubters say might well require turning just about all of the world’s remaining forests and open spaces into agricultural land. “Replacing only 5 percent of the nation’s diesel (柴油) consumption with biodiesel would require applying approximately 60 percent of today’s soy (大豆) crops to biodiesel production,” says Matthew Brown, an energy consultant and former energy program director at the National Conference of State Legislatures. “That’s bad news for tofu lovers.” Of course, soy is now much more likely to be grown as an industrial product than as a food ingredient!
There is no simple, immediate solution to freeing ourselves from traditional fuels and the future will likely see a combination of sources — from wind and ocean currents to hydrogen, solar and, yes, some crops used for biofuels. The “elephant in the living room” that people often pay no attention to when considering energy options, however, is the clear hard reality that we must reduce our consumption, not just replace it with something else. Indeed, conservation is probably the largest single “alternative fuel” available to us.
28.What is the focus of conventional wisdom concerning biofuels?
A.Their numerous sources. B.Their domestic production.
C.Their widespread adoption. D.Their environmental benefits.
29.What do Matthew Brown’s words imply?
A.Soy is more valuable as fuel than as food.
B.Tofu lovers will have to reduce their consumption.
C.Biodiesel requires less soy than expected.
D.Biofuel production might threaten food supply.
30.What does the underlined part “elephant in the living room” in the last paragraph mean?
A.An accessible and valued option. B.A huge but insignificant object.
C.An obvious but ignored issue. D.A time-consuming and hard task.
31.Which can be the suitable title of the text?
A.Biofuels: A Promising Future B.Biofuels: Not a Quick Fix
C.The True Cost of Going Green D.The Battle Between Soy and Oil

What if everything happens for a reason? Burnt toast theory, a modern view on this classic idea, suggests that every little inconvenience we experience in our day-to-day lives happens for a bigger reason.
Imagine you accidentally burn your toast before leaving for work. According to burnt toast theory, this tiny inconvenience can cause a domino effect Your morning gets delayed by three to five minutes — just enough time to leave the house later than usual and avoid a potential car accident. Or perhaps you catch a later train, missing an awkward encounter with someone you don’t intend to see. You might even meet someone new whom you wouldn’t have otherwise met, leading to a friendship or romantic connection.
When we feel like things are outside our control, that can be scary. The burnt toast theory can help some people let go of their need for control and take negative situations more positively.
However, while maintaining a positive mindset can be beneficial, over-optimism can lead to “poisonous positivity”. When we only allow ourselves to focus on positive thoughts, we are denying ourselves the chance to properly deal with challenges and difficult situations to better ourselves, focusing on creating a false positive façade (表象) instead. By constantly avoiding negative experiences, we might ignore their real impact on us and fail to acknowledge when we’re struggling. It can make us feel worse about ourselves, and may lead to pushing down negative feelings or experiences, and refusing to acknowledge or deal with them fully.
Instead of focusing purely on positive thinking, working towards developing a growth mindset may be more helpful. You don’t always have to look for life’s silver linings, or even the meaning behind a little burnt toast. Sometimes things happen, and they suck. But as long as we take time to acknowledge how these things make us feel, and recognize that we can’t always control everything around us, we can still work towards improving ourselves. It is how we handle life’s unexpected changes that really matters.
32.What can be inferred from the burnt toast theory?
A.Lost in the east, gained in the west.
B.Life is a process, not a destination.
C.Lost time will never be found again.
D.Life is full of endless challenges.
33.Which can be an outcome from “poisonous positivity”?
A.Inability to control emotions. B.Decline in physical health.
C.Loss of chances to grow. D.Failure to acknowledge others.
34.Which can be seen as a growth mindset mentioned in the last paragraph?
A.Avoiding pushing others too hard. B.Finding reasons for failure.
C.Always looking on the bright side. D.Accepting misfortunes in life.
35.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To illustrate a theory and its hidden risks.
B.To explain the function of a life theory.
C.To advocate ignoring daily negative things.
D.To prove troubles bring hidden benefits.
Have you ever wondered how to move past your mistakes and find peace within? It’s a question many people ask during their healing (治愈) journey, especially when guilt and shame feel like heavy loads. Self-forgiveness isn’t about excusing your actions or forgetting what happened. 36 It’s also about choosing to release the emotional weight that’s holding you back. The process begins with realizing that keeping guilt only extends your suffering. Instead, focus on the idea of emotional release — letting go of those negative feelings so you can create space for growth and sympathy. This shift doesn’t happen overnight, but every small step you take brings you closer to inner peace.
37 It’s easy to ignore or hide the pain, but real self-forgiveness starts with being honest. You need to sit with your emotions, understand what they’re telling you, and accept that you’re human — not perfect yet capable of change. As you do this, you start to see that your mistakes don’t define your entire being. 38 Emotional release plays a crucial role here; it’s about releasing the shame and guilt that keep you stuck in the past. You might find it helpful to express your emotions through writing, trusted conversations, or mindfulness. This allows you to heal and open the door to forgiveness.
Self-forgiveness also involves kindness toward yourself. It’s easy to be your own worst critic, but you need to treat yourself with the same sympathy you’d offer a close friend. As you continue this journey, remind yourself that healing isn’t linear (线性的). Some days will be harder than others, and that’s okay. 39 Over time, with patience and persistence (坚持), you’ll find that emotional release becomes easier, and self-forgiveness becomes a natural part of your growth. 40
A.It’s about acknowledging your past honestly.
B.What matters is your commitment to progress.
C.Forgiving yourself doesn’t mean you’re avoiding duty.
D.Eventually, you’ll welcome a brighter, more caring future.
E.Instead, they become lessons that guide your path forward.

Since then, the Longhursts have treated 567 hedgehogs, caring for sick, injured, and orphaned ones around the clock.
Archaeologists have won a race against the elements 56 (preserve) a set of 2,000-year-old footprints that were uncovered, and then quickly erased by storms on a Scottish beach.
The impressions, 57 (date) to the late Iron Age, were revealed when strong winds blew away dunes (沙丘) at Lunan Bay in Angus. The footprints were spotted by two residents, Ivor Campbell and Jenny Snedden, as they walked their dogs along the shore. After noticing distinct markings in a 58 (fresh) exposed band of estuarine clay (河口黏土层) they informed Bruce Mann, an archaeologist, 59 contacted specialists at the University of Aberdeen. Within hours, a team led by Professor Kate Britton was 60 the way.
Britton said: “We were dealing with a rare site and this discovery offered a direct view of the past, but it was also clear that the sea would soon take back what had so recently been revealed. We had to work fast in the 61 (bad) conditions I’ve ever encountered for archaeological fieldwork.” Within 48 hours, 62 entire site was destroyed.
Analysis identified tracks from red deer, roe deer and other animals, alongside barefoot human impressions 63 (leave) in what was a muddy estuary rather than today’s sandy bay.
Professor Gordon Noble said: “This is a real and direct link to the region’s past. It’s very exciting to think these prints were made by people around the time of the Roman invasions of Scotland and in the centuries leading up to the 64 (emerge) of the Picts (皮克特人).”
Such sites are exceptionally unusual in Britain: only a handful of sites 65 (record) in England so far.

It was an exciting trekking through the jungles. Our team of four, all hiking enthusiasts, set off early in the morning, aiming to conquer the peak at over 1,500 meters above sea level. The air was fresh, and the dense trees formed a green cover above us. After two hours of hiking, we reached an altitude of 1,000 meters. The path grew steeper and wilder, with thick undergrowth covering hidden dangers. Just then, we encountered a forest ranger (护林员) who reminded us to watch our steps carefully. Eager to press on, I led the way, ignoring the faint sense of unease that had settled over the group as the trail seemed to disappear into the vines and roots.
Suddenly, as I stepped over a fallen log, a sharp pain shot through my right ankle, which was caught in a hidden wire animal trap, likely left by illegal hunters years ago. The more I struggled, the tighter the thin wire bit into my flesh. Panic spread through the group. My friends tried to get it open with a multitool, but the wire was stubbornly strong. Lisa’s hands were shaking badly, so she had to lay her tool down. Mark, usually our calm leader, kept muttering, “Let me think.” but his face turned pale.
Twenty minutes passed. My foot grew numb and swollen from the cut-off circulation, turning a frightening purple color. Each failed attempt and every minute that ticked by deepened our sense of helplessness. Desperation hung heavy in the air. We were miles from any signal, and no one knew what to do. The once-inviting forest now felt like a silent prison.
Just as hope began to fade, a new sound cut through our despair — the distinct and cautious sound of footsteps approaching from behind the dense bushes.
The forest ranger came out of the bushes.

【答案】17.A 18.C 19.B 20.A
Take care of your plants. They may scream if you treat them badly, according to an article published in a magazine in Cell. Plants can make sounds when they are stressed. Plants interact with insects and other animals all the time, and many of these insects and animals use sounds for communication, so it would be very inconvenient for plants not to use sounds at all. Lilach Hadany told BBC science focus. With this in mind, the research team started by recording plants sounds. They divided the plants into three groups. One group wasn’t watered for five days, another group had the stems cut off and the last group remained untouched. The microphones caught sounds at a frequency of 40 to 80 kilohertz from the first two groups. The sounds grew louder and louder during the five days of water stress. They then began to decline as the plants dried out. The researchers haven’t yet discovered how the sounds are made. After the experiment, the team gathered the data and made software that could tell how plants feel it could be useful for farmers in monitoring the conditions of their crops.

B
根据第二段中“With the exoskeleton’s gentle support, I took a few steps, completely on my own. Every step I take feels tailor-made for me, comfortable and effortless, without to set anything. (在外骨骼的温和支撑下,我迈出了几步,完全是依靠自己的力量完成的。我每走一步都感觉都是为我量身定制的,既舒适又轻松,无需进行任何设置。)”可推知,外骨骼设备能自动适应用户的习惯。
25.推理判断题。根据第三段中“I looked at my legs and said to myself, “Finally, my legs feel strong again.” I even joked, “I feel like Iron Woman!” (我看着自己的双腿,对自己说:“终于,我的腿又感到有力了。”我甚至开玩笑说:“我感觉自己像钢铁侠!”)”可知,此处是比喻手法,作者自称“钢铁侠”是在强调她在设备辅助下重获行走能力时的强大感和自我掌控感,反映了她新获得的力量和自主能力。
26.推理判断题。根据第二段中“A staff member from Hangzhou Taixi Technology helped me into a lightweight belt-like device weighing just 1.8 kilograms. (一位来自杭州太希科技公司的工作人员帮我穿上了一个轻便的、类似腰带的装置,该装置重仅1.8千克。)”、第三段中“Later, when the company invited us to Hangzhou to try upgraded models, we went without hesitation. (后来,公司邀请我们去杭州试用升级版产品,我们毫不犹豫地就去了。)”和第四段中“Before we left, the company gifted me my very own exoskeleton, specially adjusted so the left side provided extra support for my weaker leg. (在我们离开之前,公司送给我一台专属的外骨骼装备,它经过了特别的调整,使得左侧能够为我那较为虚弱的腿提供额外的支撑。)”可知,该公司在现场帮助作者体验设备,邀请她去杭州体验升级版产品,并赠送了她一台专门调整过的外骨骼装备,这些行动体现了公司致力于帮助个人重获行动能力。
27.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第二段中“But within minutes, something miraculous happened — I stood up. (但就在几分钟之内,奇迹发生了——我站了起来。)”、第四段中“Before we left, the company gifted me my very own exoskeleton, specially adjusted so the left side provided extra support for my weaker leg. (在我们离开之前,公司送给我一套专属的外骨骼装备,它经过了特别的调整,使得左侧能够为我那较为虚弱的腿提供额外的支撑。)”和“The device is priced at just $1,200, making it truly accessible — technology with heart, changing real lives. (该设备的价格仅为1200美元,使其真正触手可及——用心的技术,改变现实生活。)”可知,全文通过外骨骼设备如何让作者重获行走自由、公司个性化适配设备、亲民定价等细节,点明“用心的技术,改变现实生活”,传达的理念是“真正的技术是为人类服务的”。
根据第一段中的“Conventional wisdom holds that transitioning from oil to plant-based biofuels (生物燃料) carries numerous green advantages. For many people, since such fuels are obtained from agricultural crops, they are naturally renewable. And our own farmers typically produce them domestically, reducing our dependence on unstable foreign sources of oil. Additionally, they cause less pollution than traditional fuels. They also do not have much of contribution of greenhouse gases to the global climate change problem.(传统观点认为,从石油向植物基生物燃料的转型拥有众多环保优势。对许多人来说,由于这类燃料取自农作物,因此它们是天然可再生的。而且本国农民通常可生产这类燃料,减少我们对不稳定的国外石油资源的依赖。此外,它们比传统燃料造成的污染更少,也几乎不会产生加剧全球气候变化的温室气体)”可知,传统观点重点强调生物燃料的各类环保益处。
29.推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Replacing only 5 percent of the nation’s diesel (柴油) consumption with biodiesel would require applying approximately 60 percent of today’s soy (大豆) crops to biodiesel production. That’s bad news for tofu lovers. Of course, soy is now much more likely to be grown as an industrial product than as a food ingredient!(仅用生物柴油替代全国5%的柴油消耗量,就需要将目前约60%的大豆作物用于生物柴油生产。这对豆腐爱好者来说是个坏消息。当然,如今大豆更多是作为工业产品而非食品原料种植)”可知,生产生物燃料需要消耗大量大豆,会挤占粮食种植份额,威胁粮食供应。
30.词句猜测题。划线部分后的定语从句“that people often pay no attention to when considering energy options,(人们在考虑能源选择时常常忽视)”以及后文“however, is the clear hard reality that we must reduce our consumption, not just replace it with something else.(然而,是一个明确而残酷的现实,即我们必须减少消耗,而不仅仅是用其他东西代替它)”可知,“elephant in the living room”指显而易见却被忽视的问题。
根据第二段“Despite the upsides, however, experts point out that a total shift from gas to biofuels, given the number of gas-only cars already on the road and the lack of biofuel filling equipment, would take some time.(然而,尽管有诸多优势,专家指出,考虑到路上已有大量只使用汽油的车辆以及生物燃料加注设备的短缺,从汽油全面转向生物燃料尚需时日)”、第三段 “Another major obstacle to widespread adoption of biofuels is the challenge of growing enough crops to meet demand — something doubters say might well require turning just about all of the world’s remaining forests and open spaces into agricultural land.(生物燃料广泛推广的另一大阻碍是难以种植足够的农作物来满足需求,质疑者称这几乎需要将全球现存所有森林和空地都变为农田)”以及最后一段“There is no simple, immediate solution to freeing ourselves from traditional fuels and the future will likely see a combination of sources — from wind and ocean currents to hydrogen, solar and, yes, some crops used for biofuels.(想要摆脱传统燃料,并没有简单、立竿见影的解决办法,未来或许会综合利用多种能源,包括风能、洋流能、氢能、太阳能以及部分用于生产生物燃料的农作物)”可知,文章介绍了生物燃料的优点,重点阐述其全面推广存在诸多阻碍,无法快速取代传统燃料。
D
【答案】32.A 33.C 34.D 35.A
根据文章第二段“According to burnt toast theory, this tiny inconvenience can cause a domino effect. Your morning gets delayed by three to five minutes — just enough time to leave the house later than usual and avoid a potential car accident.(根据烤焦面包理论,这个小小的不便会引发多米诺效应。你的早晨会推迟三到五分钟 —— 刚好足够让你比平时晚出门,避开一场潜在的车祸)”可推知,小事的不便可能带来意外的好处,对应A项“失之东隅,收之桑榆”。
33.细节理解题。根据文章第四段“However, while maintaining a positive mindset can be beneficial, over-optimism can lead to “poisonous positivity”. When we only allow ourselves to focus on positive thoughts, we are denying ourselves the chance to properly deal with challenges and difficult situations to better ourselves(然而,尽管保持积极的心态是有益的,但过度乐观却可能会导致“有毒正能量”。当我们只允许自己专注于积极乐观的想法时,我们剥夺了自己妥善应对挑战与困境、从而提升自我的机会)”可知,有毒正能量会让人失去成长的机会。
34.细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“But as long as we take time to acknowledge how these things make us feel, and recognize that we can’t always control everything around us, we can still work towards improving ourselves.(但只要我们花时间接纳这些事带来的感受,并认识到我们无法总是控制身边的一切,我们依然可以努力提升自己。)”
根据文章第一段“Burnt toast theory, a modern view on this classic idea, suggests that every little inconvenience we experience in our day-to-day lives happens for a bigger reason.(烤焦面包理论是这一经典观点的现代解读,它认为我们在日常生活中遇到的每一件小不便,背后都有更重要的原因。)”与第四段“However, while maintaining a positive mindset can be beneficial, over-optimism can lead to ‘poisonous positivity’.(然而,尽管保持积极心态有益,但过度乐观会导致 “有毒正能量”。)”
F.A healing journey requires you to face your feelings directly.
G.When you forgive yourself, you reduce feelings of guilt and shame.

56.to preserve 57.dating 58.freshly 59.who 60.on 61.worst 62.the 63.left 64.emergence 65.have been recorded
此处表示“在路上”,是固定短语on the way。
由so far和sites是被记录可知,空格处用现在完成时的被动语态,主语a handful of sites是复数,因此空格处是have been recorded。

Paragraph 1:
The forest ranger came out of the bushes. He quickly assessed the situation. Without a word, he knelt beside me, inspected the wire trap with a practiced eye, and gently felt my swollen ankle. “Don’t move,” he said softly, his voice steady and reassuring. From his pack, he pulled out a pair of heavy-duty wire cutters and a small first-aid kit. He explained that the trap was designed to tighten with movement, and careful precision was needed to avoid causing further injury. As he positioned the cutters, we all held our breath, the only sound being the rhythmic click of the tool against the stubborn wire.Paragraph 2:
The wire animal trap was finally removed. Relieved and thankful, I stared at my bruised ankle. The ranger swiftly cleaned and bandaged the wound, warning me not to put weight on it. He then helped me to my feet, supporting me as we began the slow descent. Along the way, he emphasized the importance of staying on marked trails and carrying proper safety gear. His kindness and expertise turned a near-disaster into a profound lesson. As we reached the forest entrance at dusk, I not only felt gratitude for the rescue, but also a renewed respect for nature and its unseen guardians.
