David’s grandpa made a kite with a long tail for David. That afternoon, he took the kite and followed his grandpa to an open space. He was so excited that he sang all the way.
The wind was strong that day—perfect for flying kites. David let the kite go and watched with pride as it danced beautifully in the sky.
Suddenly, the wind changed its direction. David lost control of the kite, and it fell into a tree. With much difficulty, they managed to get the kite back. However, its tail had fallen off. David’s heart sank.
Noticing his disappointment, his grandpa comforted him softly, “Come on. I’ll make one for you.”
They went to a nearby shop. David’s grandpa borrowed some tools, cut a paper tail and stuck it to the kite.
“Things break sometimes, just like this kite. But face them calmly and everything will work out,” his grandpa said.
Once the kite was repaired, David hurried out and let the wind lift the kite again. It flew even higher! David ran after the kite cheerfully all afternoon.
When the sun began to set, they headed back home. On their way, David said to his grandpa, “I never thought the kite would be fixed, but it turned out much stronger.”
His grandpa nodded, “Being strong is not about never falling. It is about always rising again.”

22.B【22题详解】最后一段,爷爷总结的话:“Being strong is not about never falling. It is about always rising again.”而前一句David说:“I never thought the kite would be fixed, but it turned out much stronger.”说明他从风筝修复的经历中,理解了“坚强”的真正含义。
23.A【23题详解】第四段:安慰大卫“Come on. Have you ever sent a handwritten letter to your family? Or have you received one from someone? Now, we live in a world of fast text messages. With just a touch on the screen, we can send words to anyone. But do you remember the warmth of a handwritten letter? Those pieces of paper hold more than quick messages. They hold worries, dreams, and touching stories.
In Beijing, the Family Letter Museum of Renmin University of China has many special letters. One letter stands out. It was written by a father to his daughter. When you first see it, you’ll be surprised—there are no words on the paper! Just colorful drawings!
The father used drawings to “talk” to his little girl. He drew her smiling face, a big thumbs-up and cute rabbits eating carrots. Each drawing had a special meaning. A happy face with a thumbs-up meant “You’re doing great!” Rabbits eating carrots meant “Time to eat yummy food!” These pictures were like their own secret language, full of joy and love.
Most letters use words to show love. But this dad used pictures. With just a pencil and paper, he built a bridge of love.
Love doesn’t need big words. Just simple drawings can show even warmer feelings. The picture letter reminds us: there are many ways to share our love with the people we care about.

About a week later, Eva seemed much better. She started to play in the garden again, laughing like before. Her father was hopeful and happy, but Miss Ophelia and the doctor were not so sure—and neither was Eva herself.
One afternoon, her father called her over with a gift. “You’re getting better now, aren’t you, dear?” he asked gently, holding her hand.
Eva looked at him and began to cry. “Papa, I’m going to leave you soon. I have things I want to tell you before I get weaker.”
He held her close. “Don’t say that. You’re just tired from the illness.”
“No, Papa. I’m not sad for myself, but for you—and for our slaves (奴隶). They love me and they are so kind to me. I wish they could all be free.”
“Don’t you think we treat them well?” he asked.
“Yes, but what will happen to them if something happens to you? Some people buy husbands but not wives, or mothers but not their children. They separate families. Papa, when I’m gone, will you try to set them free?”
St. Clare held her tighter (更紧地). “You’re all I have in the world. I’ll do anything you ask.”
“Promise me Tom will be free.”
“I promise, my dear child.”

“Imagine that your home is on fire now. You’re only allowed to save one thing. Your family and pets are safe, so don’t worry about them. What is the most important thing you want to save? It can be anything in any size.”
Linda Sue Park wrote a book called The One Thing You’d Save. In it, a teacher named Ms Chang invites her students to think of the question above. She wants to challenge her class to name the most important thing to them.
Some students know the answer right away. Others come to their decisions much more slowly. And some students finally change their minds when they hear their classmates’ answers. As for the answers, some choose baseball cards or toy animals. One student among them picks a sweater that has been passed down in his family for generations (几代人). Another student chooses a box which holds a lot of memories of his childhood.
Even Ms Chang shares with the students her own choice in the end. It is a really thought-provoking (引人深思的) question. As the students are trying to answer it, they discover more about one another and also about themselves.
The book is a collection of poems. The writer tells the story through narrative (故事体的) poems. What makes the book so popular is that it leads people to think deeply.
The book uses black-and-white pictures to show the objects the students choose. When seeing the pictures, the readers may think of scenes of their homes, the classroom, the communities they live in and more. David’s grandpa made a kite with a long tail for David. That afternoon, he took the kite and followed his grandpa to an open space. He was so excited that he sang all the way.

Today is Thursday. You are rich. If you give my aunt some money, you can have her dress and bonnet (女帽).”

Linda Sue Park wrote a book called The One Thing You’d Save. In it, a teacher named Ms Chang invites her students to think of the question above. She wants to challenge her class to name the most important thing to them.
