二、阅读理解
When you pack for an exchange trip, what gifts would you choose? In the past, Chinese students usually chose traditional (传统的) objects like paper-cuts. Now, many Gen Z (born between 1995 and 2009) Chinese students use “guochao” objects as new cultural name cards. This shows how young Chinese people are finding new ways to connect with the world.
Hanfu, Li-Ning clothes with Chinese designs and “White Rabbit” candies are at the top of their gift lists. These choices aren’t random (随意的). They are cheap for students and easy to carry. They also show what China is like—a country that has a long history but is always creating new things. They let young people show cultural confidence quietly. Zhang Lin, an 18-year-old girl, said, “I gave my host sister in Australia a light blue hanfu. She loved it and wore it to a party. We talked about Chinese history and fashion for hours. It felt like sharing part of myself, not just a gift.”
These gifts change people’s old ideas about China. Foreign friends used to think that Chinese culture was all about ancient things like calligraphy. But they are surprised by “guochao” objects—they see a cool and modern China. These gifts make cultural exchanges friendly chats instead of “lessons” about the past.

Last year, I started doing some volunteer work for a charity in my town that helped disabled children. I found that they needed new wheelchairs (轮椅), but they really didn’t have the money. So I began to think about how to raise money, hoping it would also be a good chance to push myself and grow.
When I told my friends about it, they joked, “Amy, why don’t you run the London Marathon?!” We all laughed — I was never into sports and had never run seriously before. I felt nervous and had no idea if I could make it. But I decided to give it a go.
I talked to the charity, and they agreed to sign me up. I began to run every night, and after about a month, I could finish nearly 10 kilometers. The problem, though, was that the marathon is 42 kilometers!
With only five months left until the race, I practised harder than ever and worked my way up to 31 kilometers. I had to finish it — if I did, my sponsors (赞助者) would give enough money to buy new wheelchairs for the kids.
On race day, I wasn’t sure if I was ready. Luckily, the weather was cool, and other runners helped me a lot. After about 36 kilometers, I was completely weary. I was out of breath, and my legs felt so heavy. I almost gave up, but the cheers from the crowd kept me going, and I finally made it to the finishing line with a time of five hours and ten minutes.
I felt incredibly proud of myself. I didn’t become a professional (专业的) runner, but I faced my fear and saw it through. I never realized I could keep trying this hard. Glaciers (冰川) hold about 70% of the earth’s fresh water. They are large pieces of closely packed (压缩的) ice and snow. Glaciers only form in places where it is very cold. Every year, new snow falls on top of the old snow. The layers (层) of snow press down on each other, and then the snow crystals (雪晶) start to change. They get smaller, and the air is pushed out of the snow. This allows the crystals to grow longer. Over time, the snow layer at the bottom becomes ice. The whole process of making a glacier takes about 100 years.
The snow on top of a glacier looks white because it reflects (反射) all of the light. However, the ice layers are packed so closely that they look like they are blue. The reason is that the ice doesn’t have much air, so it absorbs different parts of light and reflects blue light.
Some of the glaciers on the earth may be very old. Scientists think that a few glaciers have ice that is about 8 million years old. Not all of the glaciers are that old, though. A number of glaciers in Alaska (阿拉斯加) are only about 100 years old.
There are different kinds of glaciers. An ice stream is a kind of glacier that forms on another glacier, and it looks like a frozen river. Rock glaciers are made when ice, rock, and other objects get mixed together.

Through these small but meaningful gifts, young Chinese people paint a new picture of China: a creative country that is proud of its past. This move towards “guochao” gifts is a big step forward in cultural exchanges.

In the end, I not only helped the charity get the wheelchairs they needed, but also discovered a stronger and more confident part of myself along the way.

Now AI is common in school. In 2023, Forbes Advisor did a study among 500 teachers in the US about AI 60% of them said they used AI in the classroom. Many teachers say AI helps them plan lessons more efficiently.

Mental health problems are actually very common, affecting about 13 percent of people aged between 10 and 19 around the world. World Mental Health (WMH) Day, October 10th, is a day to remind people to take more care of mental health problems.
② School life isn’t always easy. Exams are stressful, lessons can be hard and it’s also difficult to make good friends sometimes. If you don’t feel good at school, your diet can change how you feel. You should eat enough vegetables and fruit to make you feel well. Drink enough water too. Water makes you full of energy.
③ Besides, it’s healthy to spend time with others. Find people who make you feel safe and comfortable and spend time together with them. If you feel lonely, try volunteering. It’s a good way of meeting new people, and you’ll feel good about helping others. One survey showed that 48 percent of people said they felt less unhappy after volunteering for more than two years.
④ Most people know that exercise is good for your body, but did you know it’s good for your mental health too? Exercise can also help reduce stress and unhappiness. Why not exercise by going for a walk in the park or countryside?
⑤ So, on WMH Day, you can do something that really makes you happy, such as having your favourite food or chatting with your best friend. Take some time to ask yourself: How do I feel right now?
1.Which is the correct process (过程) of forming a glacier?
①New snow falls on top of the old snow.
②The snow crystals grow longer.
③Air is pushed out of the snow.
④The layers of snow press down on each other.
⑤The snow layer at the bottom becomes ice.
A.⑤①②④③ B.①④③②⑤ C.①④②③⑤ D.⑤④②①③
2.The underlined word “absorbs” in Paragraph 2 probably means “________”.
A.takes in B.carries out C.gives up D.cuts down
3.Why does the writer talk about Alaska’s glaciers?
A.Because the writer thinks there are a number of glaciers in Alaska.
B.Because the writer thinks they are the oldest glaciers on the earth.
C.Because the writer explains the rocks in them are valuable.
D.Because the writer explains not all of the glaciers are very old.
4.How does the writer support his idea in the last paragraph?
A.By giving examples. B.By showing numbers.
C.By giving opinions. D.By telling stories.

2.第二段提到“The reason is that the ice doesn’t have much air, so it absorbs different parts of light and reflects blue light.”可知,冰层没有太多空气,因此它会“吸收”不同部分的光线并反射蓝光。absorbs意为“吸收”,与选项A”Takes in (吸收/接纳)”意思相近。
3.第三段提到“Not all of the glaciers are that old, though. A number of glaciers in Alaska are only about 100 years old.”,作者提到阿拉斯加的冰川只有约100年历史,是为了支撑前一句的观点,即解释并非所有的冰川都非常古老。
4.最后一段首句提出“There are different kinds of glaciers.”,随后分别介绍了“An ice stream”和“Rock glaciers”两种具体类型,这是通过举例子的方式来支持观点。

First, online AI doctors can give quick advice. The AI doctor has got much experience from medical experts. By chatting on the smartphone, people can learn what might be wrong with them. They can also get helpful suggestions. This helps people in areas with fewer hospitals get good advice without travelling far.
Also, AI-powered massage (按摩) robots can help improve physical health. These robots can find the acupoints (穴位) on a person’s body in a very short time. They work like human therapists (治疗师). They have given over 350,000 massages so far.
They can play soft music and check sleep quality. In emergencies, they can even call a doctor.
Some companies are already working on such tools to help people sleep better and stay safe. In short, AI is changing healthcare in China. Although some tools are still expensive (昂贵的), we believe costs will drop as technology improves.
A.These robots are already used in some nursing homes and hotels in China.
B.For example, the AQ app allows users to talk to an AI doctor anytime.

Third, remember that no job is small. Every kind of work has its own value. When you do your job well, you are making the world better.
