Seeds (种子) are like the “chips” of farming. In Shouguang, Shandong Province, things changed in the seed field. In the 1990s, foreign (外国的) vegetable seeds in Shouguang took up 70—80% of the market. Liu Shusen, a manager of one seed company, thought it was important 3 (do) something to help. He made up his mind to breed (培育) his own high-quality vegetable seeds in 2012.
With the help of the government and the 4 (raise) of people’s awareness (意识), people realized it was time to breed our own seeds! So more seed companies began to open. In 2015, Shouguang welcomed its 5 (ninety) seed companies of its own. Some of them 6 (fail) at first, but they didn’t give up. Now 15 of these companies breed vegetables and have developed 178 new seed types. “We used to spend a lot on seeds from other countries but now some of our own seeds are even better than 7 (they),” Liu said. Shouguang has become the largest seedling place in China.
The seed revolution brings happiness to Chinese people. Home seeds are cheaper and better. For example, tomato seeds can save farmers 20 million yuan a year. 8 (luck), more people can buy different vegetables at home. However, there are still challenges. China starts late, so it’s too hard for small Shouguang seed companies to enter the world. But we do believe—with more 9 (create) people working on seed development, farming will become more productive and sustainable. If we work together, amazing things 10 (happen). We can surely develop more excellent seeds of our own.

Then I can live there during the week and come home at weekends to look after you. Diana’s father will use our fields and pay us for them, and so we’ll have some money. You see?”
“Oh Anne! I’ll be all right if you’re here. But you must go to Redmond, if you want to study...”
“Redmond College doesn’t matter,” laughed Anne. “I’m going to study at home in the evenings. And I’m going to be a really good teacher! That’s better than anything!”
Marilla was moved and tried not to cry. “You’re a good girl, Anne. Now we can keep Green Gables!”

①Plants can help with climate (气候) change by taking in carbon dioxide (二氧化碳). But if it gets too hot, they might do something bad, a new study said.
②Plants play an important role in our life. They take in air through quite small holes in their leaves. Then, with the help of sunlight, they turn this air into food and give out oxygen (氧气) that we need to breathe at the same time. Before, people thought plants lost most of their water through these small holes. In fact, when the weather is hot, the holes close. This way plants don’t lose too much water. It’s like a smart way for plants to protect themselves.
③However, a new study found something surprising. When it is hot, plants lose more water through a layer (层) on their leaves. This layer is always open and cannot close, just like a window that stays open all the time. So, in very hot weather, plants keep losing water but can’t take in air to make food. Imagine if you are thirsty but can’t drink water or eat food—how hard it will be! That’s how plants feel in hot weather. This makes it hard for them to clean the air by taking in carbon dioxide.
④If it gets too hot, something worse might happen. Plants might even give out carbon dioxide back into the air. This could make climate change worse. Scientists say this could happen when the temperature (温度) is about 30℃. Can you believe it? A little change in temperature can make such a big difference.
⑤We need to take care of the environment (环境) and try to stop the Earth from getting too hot. Planting more trees is good, but we also need to keep the Earth from getting warmer. Every small thing we do to protect the environment helps. Let’s work together to keep the Earth cool and healthy for all plants and animals.
1.Plants usually take in carbon dioxide through ________.
A.sunlight B.oxygen C.the holes in the leaves D.a layer on their leaves
2.According to the new study, what will happen to plants when it is very hot?
A.They will take in more air. B.They will lose more water.
C.More leaves will fall down from them. D.More holes will grow in their leaves.
3.What can we know from the last paragraph?
a. Even small things friendly to the environment work.
b. We need to keep the Earth healthy by working together.
c. Planting trees is the only way to protect the environment.
d. We’d better do something to stop the Earth from getting too hot.
A.abc B.acd C.abd D.bcd
4.Which of the following best shows the structure of this passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2, ……)

What you do after studying is very important. It can decide how well you learn and remember things. Today, on Education Tips, we’ll talk about two free ways to help you study better: wakeful rest and sleep.
Many students like to do other things right after studying. Some check their phones or use computers. Others play video games or watch TV. But studies show that having a rest after studying can help you remember what you’ve learned. The idea is this: by stopping your activity after the study, your brain (大脑) gets a chance to rest. It’s hard for your brain to rest when you’re playing computer games. You might think this is strange, but lots of studies show the good things about “wakeful rest”—________.
In 2019, a study found that both young people and older people could remember what they learned better after doing wakeful rest. If you want to try wakeful rest, it’s easy. Just sit quietly for 5 to 10 minutes. Don’t look at your phone, read books, or play games. That’s all!
Sleep is also very important for learning. The Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School says sleep helps us learn in two ways. Their website says, “If you don’t get enough sleep, you can’t focus on something well, so you can’t learn well.” And sleep helps us remember things, and remembering is key when learning new things.
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) says adults aged 20 to 64 should sleep 6 to 7 hours a day. Teenagers may need a bit more sleep, and people over 65 may need a bit less. So, try some wakeful rest after studying. Then, get a good night’s sleep. These are simple and free ways to help you remember what you learn.
1.Your friend is preparing for the exam. What will you advise him to do after studying?
A.Open your phone and chat with friends on WeChat for a while.
B.Start to play your favourite video game for 30 minutes to relax.
C.Start to prepare for another subject’s study as quickly as you can.
D.Lie down quietly for 8 minutes without using the phone or reading.
2.Which sentence can be put in the ________?
A.it means taking a break without any sleep
B.you should play games to relax your brain
C.you’d better go on with study after having a rest
D.that’s resting after learning while you’ re still awake
3.How long should teenagers sleep each day according to NSF?
A.Less than 6 hours. B.Just 7 hours.
C.Around 8 hours. D.No more than 7 hours.
4.Which may be the best title for the passage?
A.Education Today: The Importance of Wakeful Rest
B.Study Tips: How to Use Phones Wisely After Learning
C.The Power of Rest: Two Free Ways to Better Your Study
D.Sleep Secrets: Why Teenagers Need More Rest Than Adults
Did you know that trees can “talk” with each other? They “talk” not to be helpful, but because they can’t help it, a new study said.
It may look like each tree in a forest stands alone on its roots (根). But they’re connected (连接) underground by mycorrhizal networks (菌根网络). These networks are made of very small threads of fungi (真菌丝).
Between 80 to 90 per cent of trees are on this “wood-wide web”. Earlier studies show that trees use it to warn others about danger, according to The Conversation. For example, when bugs (虫子) come to eat the leaves of a tree, the tree can send chemical signals (化学信号) through the networks. Other trees then pick up the information and make special juice to keep the bugs away.
However, a new study led by the UK’s University of Oxford says something different. After running tests on math models, scientists found that trees do not in fact get anything from being nice. They could protect themselves by lying to plants around them. This is because trees fight for sunlight, water and food all the time. So, it does not make sense for a tree to help others when it is in trouble.
So why do they send signals? Scientists think there may be two reasons. First, trees can’t help sending information, just like we sometimes can’t stop our faces from turning red. Second, the fungi may be the ones spreading the signals because they need plants to live.
1.How are most trees connected underground?
A.Using water in the soil. B.By very small threads of fungi.
C.Through small roots of plants. D.With chemical clouds above ground.
2.Why do trees send signals about bugs according to earlier studies?
A.To ask animals to send help.
B.To make others run away from the area.
C.To tell nearby trees to make special juice.
D.To welcome bugs to help plants produce seeds.
3.Which order shows how trees keep themselves safe from bugs?
①Make special juice ②Get chemical signals ③Bugs eat leaves ④Fungi spread information
A.③→④→②→① B.③→②→④→①
C.③→②→①→④ D.②→③→①→④
4.What does the article mainly tell us about trees?
A.Where fungi learn to send information. B.Why trees fight humans for food.
C.When forests become dangerous places. D.How trees “talk” in surprising ways.
One sunny Saturday morning, as usual, Tom was reading a newspaper to his old neighbour Mrs Bell in her garden. Suddenly Mrs Bell cried out and put her hand to her heart.

My family had a long-running cycle (循环) of growing up poor. Both my mom and dad came from large families with little more than the clothes on their backs. Their parents had also grown up with very little. When I was five, I showed an interest in machine. Before long, I was trying to take apart an old computer in my kindergarten classroom. By Grade 3, I was learning to program using the BASIC language.
Then, one day in high school, my computer science teacher advised me to join a computer camp. He gave me a brochure and I excitedly took it home. That excitement quickly died as my mom saw the price of the camp: three hundred dollars. That evening, I went into my room and cried my eyes out. But a few weeks later, I got a phone call. It was the head of the computer camp telling me I’d be attending the camp. I could hardly believe my ears. At that camp, I met many like-minded kids and learned how to build websites together. It lit a fire in me.
Then, two years after that life-changing summer, one day, I received another call from the camp director. “I've found something I think you’ll want to see,” he said. When we met, he pulled out a long, handwritten letter. My mom sent it when I was 15. She wrote that I was the smartest kid she had ever known. She talked a lot about my early love for machine and computers. She ended by saying she couldn’t pay the cost of the computer camp and hoped in her heart that they would still accept me. I broke down crying right then and there.
Over the years, I continued to learn as much as I could. In 2014, I finally got a job where I could use all my skills.
Now, I’m proud to say that I broke my family’s cycle of living poorly. And all I want to do now is sit down with my mom and thank her for everything she does for me. Without her, I would never have the bright life I have today.

①From friendships to work stress, more Chinese people are now using AI tools like Deep Seek to talk about their problems. They share feelings with the chatbot and get warm advice. This is called “AI therapy”, which is becoming popular online. But can robots really replace (替换) human therapists (治疗师)?
②Around the world, 45 percent of people who needed mental health care in 2024 did not get it because it was too expensive or there weren’t enough doctors, according to Huntington Psychological Services. Daniel Lowd, an associate professor at the University of Oregon, believes AI could give some help. “If people can find some support and ideas by talking to ChatGPT or a chatbot, then I think that’s wonderful,” Lowd said. Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people’s needs for feelings to a point.
③However, AI can’t do everything. Human therapists understand feelings deeply through face-to-face talks and create personalized treatment plans—something robots can’t fully copy.
④Another problem is safety. AI might act like a therapist without proper training or rules. It can’t be as careful as human therapists. Many people believe the key to safe AI therapy is strict rules For example, Wysa, an AI mental health app, follows strict medical rules in the UK.
⑤As AI becomes part of daily life, finding a balance between its benefits and risks is important While AI offers quick help, human can’t be replaced for some serious needs for feelings.
1.According to the passage, which one uses the “AI therapy”?
A.Amy talks about her problems with teachers to get some useful ideas.
B.Suzy shares her sadness with her online friends to get warm comfort.
C.Simon talks to Wysa about his trouble and it offers him some advice.
D.Millie uses AI tools to create fresh pictures for her computer lessons.
2.Why is “AI therapy” good for us?
① meet needs for feelings ②be more careful ③ offer quick help
④ understand feelings deeply ⑤cost very little money
A.①③⑤ B.②③④ C.①②④ D.③④⑤
3.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
4.What is the writer’s idea about “AI therapy”?
A.AI can fully meet different people’s different needs for feelings.
B.AI can replace human therapists by giving some warm feelings.
C.AI can copy the full abilities of a human therapist through talks.
D.AI becomes part of daily life but can’t replace human therapists.
Do you want to take your pets on a long trip? China Railway Express began a pilot pet consignment service (托运服务) on April 8. That means the owners can travel with their pets on the same train.
China Railway Express states that pet owners need to book (预定) at least two days in advance through the 12306 app. Pets must be healthy cats or dogs under 15 kilograms in weight and no taller than 40 centimeters. During the trip, pets are put in special containers in a separate place, away from pet owners. The railway workers give them water, but owners can not feed or visit them. Now this service is only on 10 train routes between five stations: Beijing South, Jinan West, Nanjing South, Shanghai Hongqiao and Hangzhou East. The company says the service is part of efforts to modernize China’s transport system and meet the growing need for pet-friendly travel.
According to the 2025 China Pet Industry White Paper, in 2024, 18.7% of pet owners spent money on pet travel—an increase of 4.9% points compared to 2023. Many pet owners feel both happy and worried about the new service. “I think it’s good,” said Qin Peixuan, 24, a cat owner. “The service meets people’s needs well, as more and more people think pets are part of a family.” However, Qin feels the containers are too small for her cat and is worried about the air quality. Another cat owner, Wang Shanshan, 27, shares similar thoughts. Three years ago, when she moved from Wuhan to Beijing, her short-nosed cat was not allowed to fly, so she used a road transport service for pets. “My cat had to spend a day and night on the road,” Wang said. However, she worries that keeping cats and dogs together might make the cats afraid when dogs bark, which could be life-threatening for some cats.
The policy still needs time to get better, but the new pet consignment service shows that railways are becoming more user-friendly. In the future, more services like “pet transport” will likely appear to meet growing market needs. This will help railways become a bigger part of daily life, not just a way to travel.

Simple songs play an important role in kids’ life. They can change a kid’s life forever. Think about it, you may still remember some songs from when you were little. The same thing happens today. Songs can help kids learn faster and remember new things better in daily life.
Music and speaking both have rhythms. When kids sing, they can feel the rhythms. In talking, we use stops and stress on syllables or words to show feelings and important points. Songs and rhymes can help us remember different kinds of things. Music goes to many parts of the brain, and gets stored (储存) in different memory (记忆) places. When kids store memories in more places, they can remember things better.
Kids learn languages faster by singing than by listening to long talks. Singing helps kids learn new words and expressions quickly. If your kid is young, singing is a good way to teach him new words and expressions. Singing more times helps turn what they learn into long-term (长期的) memory. Small differences in spoken language can influence (影响) young kids’ reading. Consonants such as “b” and “p” are hard for kids to tell apart on paper, but they can learn from songs. This can help them know the difference when reading.
Also, songs can improve (提高) kids’ creativity. When kids listen to songs, they often imagine different pictures and stories in their minds, which helps with their creative thinking. What’s more, singing songs together with friends or family can make kids more confident (自信的) and help them have better social skills. They can share happiness through music and learn how to work together with others.
1.How can songs help kids in daily life?
2.Why do we use stops and stress in talking?
3.What can help kids have long-term memory?
4.When kids find it hard to tell apart “b” and “p” on paper, what can they do?
5.Do you like singing? Why or why not? (请自拟一句话作答)

The Duku Highway is a very famous road in Xinjiang. It is known for its beautiful views and exciting journey. The road was completed in September, 1983, running over 500 kilometers, from a city called Dushanzi to Kuqa.
The highway is surrounded (环绕) by high mountains and wide grasslands. If you drive on this road, you will see amazing snow-covered mountains and green fields. The road takes you through lots of canyons (峡谷) and rivers, and you can see wonderful views at every turn.
One of the best parts of the Duku Highway is the Tianshan Grand Canyon. This is a really big canyon with red and yellow cliffs (悬崖). It is the perfect place to take pictures. You can also go hiking there, and enjoy the fresh air and peaceful surroundings.
Another place you must visit on the Duku Highway is the colorful Danxia landform. It is an area where the rocks and cliffs have been changing over time. The rocks are bright red, orange, and yellow, and they look like a rainbow. That’s why it is called “Colorful Danxia”.
The Duku Highway is really a great place for people who love nature. However, when you enjoy the view, do remember those soldiers who started building the road in 1973, and 168 of them lost their lives for it. Therefore, this road is also known as the “Road of Heroes”.
1.When was the Duku Highway completed?
2.What will people see if they drive on the Duku Highway?
3.Why is the Danxia landform called “Colorful Danxia”?
4.How long did it take the soldiers to build the road?

I put down Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But I kept going over the exciting story in my mind. The book was full of magic. But Charlie's happy family was the most magical part of the story.
Charlie's home was a small house at the side of a big town. His family was very poor. His four grandparents stayed in the only bed in the house. The family never had enough food. They always ate watery cabbage (卷心菜) soup for dinner. In winter, the icy wind swept (扫) across the floor all night long.
To my surprise, the family were happy together. In the evenings, Charlie sat with his grandparents in bed and listened to their stories. Charlie's parents often joined in. Every night, the room became a happy place. The whole family forgot about their hungry and poor life.
This touched me greatly. In some people’s minds, happiness comes from things like money. But love, in fact, is the key to happiness. Oscar Wilde once said, “Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden...” There are so many reasons to be happy. I think love is the most important one. It can move us, change us and give us a life full of happiness.

Blind boxes have become popular in China these days. In the film Forrest Gump, there’s a famous saying: “Life is like a box of chocolate; you never know what you’re going to get.” It’s the same with blind boxes.
A blind box toy is hidden inside but people can not see it from the outside. The buyer doesn’t know which toy they’ve got until they open the package. The characters of the toys mainly come from pop culture, from movies to cartoons.
Blind boxes, first called lucky bags, were first invented in Japan in the late 1860s, reported China Daily. Why can this kind of old lucky bags be popular again? One reason for their popularity is the attractive and cute appearance of the toys inside the boxes. But another, perhaps more important reason is the fun of being surprised. It is the main reason why people buy blind boxes one after another.
The gap between what you want and what you get draws more and more people’s attention. During the Double 11 shopping day, Pop Mart, a leading blind box company in China, sold 55,000 Labubu dolls on Tmall in just 9 seconds, according to a Tmall report.
The market size of blind boxes reached 10 billion in 2021. I Research reported that some researchers predicted that at the end of 2025, the market size would increase by 40 percent.
While the boxes are certainly popular, others worry that children might spend too much money on these toys because they can’t get the toy that they want from the first box. So they might buy another box. But others think it’s okay to buy a blind box once in a while because part of growing up is learning self-control, after all.
1.Where do the characters of the toys mainly come from?
2.When can a buyer know which toy they’ve got?
3.What do the toys inside the boxes look like?
4.Why do children spend too much money on these toys?
5.Do you like blind boxes? Why or why not?(请自拟一句话作答)

For a minute Anne didn’t say anything. Then she said firmly, “Then you must be careful, Marilla.”
“Think how bad it is to be blind! But how lucky you’ve got a free place at Redmond College! I can’t give you any money, you see. All our money’s gone, and I can’t work now. I think I’ll have to sell the farm, and go and live with Rachel Lynde!” poor Marilla cried sadly.
That night Anne sat alone in her bedroom. She thought and thought for some time, and then she smiled. When she went to bed, she knew what she was going to do.
The next day she told Marilla everything.
“You can’t sell Green Gables. It’s our home! Just listen, I’ve planned everything. I’m not going to Redmond College, it’s too far away. I’m going to teach, in one of the village schools near here.

A.①/②③④/⑤ B.①②③/④⑤ C.①②③④⑤ D.①/②③④⑤
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.C 4.A

1.What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence?
A.Pets and their owners live in different places.
B.Pets stay very close to their owners on the train.
C.Pets live together with their owners on the train.
D.Pets and their owners are in the same containers.
2.Which of the following is TRUE according to Paragraph 2?
A.Pet owners must book over three days before the trip.
B.Pet owners can take a 13-kilogram sick dog on the train.
C.Pet owners need to give pets enough water by themselves.
D.Pet owners may warmly welcome this pet-friendly service.
3.Why are some pet owners worried about the service?
A.The air quality in the containers is fantastic.
B.The containers are easily broken by the pets.
C.The pets spend much more time on the road.
D.The cats and dogs are kept in the same place.
