Ravi had always been the quiet one in class. He sat on the last bench by choice, because he didn’t want to be seen. While other students shared jokes and snacks, Ravi sat in silence, eyes fixed on his books. He didn’t know how to communicate with others.
It was the last week of school before the summer break. Class 7B buzzed (嘈杂着) with excitement——picnics, plans to watch movies, basketball matches. Everyone was talking about what they’d do. Ravi just smiled politely and kept reading.
Meera, the class monitor, noticed Ravi’s silence. She wasn’t one to ignore someone being left out. One day during lunch, she walked over with an extra sandwich.
“Hey Ravi,” she said casually, “Mom packed too much again. Want to help me finish this?”
Ravi looked up, surprised, “Are you sure?”
“Of course,” she smiled, handing it to him.
They sat together and talked. Just like that, something changed.
From that day, Meera began including him in everything—in conversations, in group study, even in birthday celebrations. The change was slow, but meaningful. Ravi started speaking up in class. He laughed more. He even scored well in the final exams.
Years passed. Ravi went on to become a teacher in a small town, known for his patience and kindness. He never forgot Meera. Every time he saw a shy child sitting alone, he sat beside him—just like she once did for him.
One day, during Parent-Teacher Day, a young woman came up to him.
“You probably don’t remember me,” she said, “but my name is Meera. We were in 7B together.” Ravi froze for a moment, then smiled. “Of course I remember you.” She handed him a small gift—a fine notebook with golden letters that read, “For the ones who never forget kindness.”
根据材料内容选择最佳答案。
26. Why did Ravi sit on the last bench in class?
A. Because he didn’t want to be noticed. B. Because he was too tall to sit in front.
C. Because it was the only place left in class. D. Because it was his favorite place in class.
27. How did Meera help Ravi at first?
A. She invited Ravi to join the game.
B. She shared her own story with Ravi.
C. She told their teacher about Ravi’s problem.
D. She asked Ravi to “help” her finish the sandwich.
28. What changes happened to Ravi?
A. He moved to the front of the classroom. B. He started to be outgoing and confident.
C. He began to study harder than before. D. He began to play jokes with his classmates.
29. Which words can best describe Meera?
A. Brave and patient. B. Quiet and hardworking.
C. Careful and outgoing. D. Kind and understanding.
30. What can we learn from the story?
A. True friendship begins with a simple act.
B. Communicating with friends brings you joy.
C. A small act of kindness can change one’s life.
D. Happiness grows when it is shared with others.
【答案】26. A 27. D 28. B 29. D 30. C
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了性格内向的Ravi在同学Meera的一个小善举下逐渐变得开朗自信,并最终成为一名善良的老师,将这份善意传递下去的故事。
【26题详解】
根据第一段“He sat on the last bench by choice, because he didn’t want to be seen.”可知Ravi坐最后一排是因为他不想被人注意到。
【27题详解】
根据第四段Meera说的话“Mom packed too much again. Want to help me finish this?”可知Meera最初是以“请Ravi帮忙吃掉多余的三明治”为由接近他的。
【28题详解】
根据“Ravi started speaking up in class. He laughed more. He even scored well in the final exams.”可知Ravi变得更加开朗自信了。
【29题详解】
根据第三段“She wasn’t one to ignore someone being left out”以及后文她主动用善意的方式接近Ravi可知Meera是一个善良且善解人意的人。
【30题详解】
根据全文,Meera一个简单的善意举动(分享三明治)改变了Ravi的一生,而Ravi后来也将这份善意传递给了更多人,因此可以看出,一个小小的善举有时会改变一个人的一生。
C
A recent study has shown that elephants use many different gestures to tell others—including humans—when they want something. It’s the first time that such different use of gestures has been observed in animals other than primates(灵长类). Examples of human gestures include pointing, nodding or shaking your head. In animals, scientists see gestures as a complex(复杂的) form of communication.
Elephants communicate in many ways. Early research has found that they flap (拍打) their ears and make sounds to say hello to their friends. Their poop (粪便) also carries chemical messages, which tell other elephants who they are and how they feel. Now it seems that elephants can also show what they want humans to do.
In this latest study, scientists observed 17 elephants that live in nature reserves (自然保护区) in Zimbabwe, Africa. A researcher showed the elephants two plates: one plate containing six apples, which were a tasty treat for the elephants, and the other plate with nothing on it. The elephants gestured to the researcher to show that they wanted the full plate. Some of the elephants waved their trunks toward the apples or reached toward the researcher.
When the researcher offered them only one apple instead of all six, however, the elephants saw what was happening and gestured for more. They kept waving their trunks. One elephant picked up a stick with its trunk and started hitting the ground, and another threw sand at the researcher. In total, the scientists recorded 38 types of gestures.
Researchers plan to continue studying how elephants use body language to communicate. The next step is to discover how they gesture to each other in the wild, when no humans are around.

A. They carried out a test with two plates.
B. They taught the elephants how to use gestures.
