For years, the idea of humans piloting towering, bipedal mechas (巨型载人机甲) was only in science fiction movies and cartoons. People could only see such cool machines on the screen, never thinking they would come into real life. But in China, the line between sci-fi imagination and real engineering is quickly becoming unclear.
In a scene just like a sci-fi trailer, Unitree Robotics CEO Wang Xingxing tested the GD01,a 2.7-meter-tall machine. It is called the world’s first ready-to-produce manned mecha. Sitting inside the small cockpit (驾驶舱), Wang controlled the heavy machine to move forward slowly. He also used its strong mechanical arms to lift things and break through walls easily, just like robot pilots in movies.
The transformable (可变形的) mecha was first shown to the public on Tuesday, with a price starting at 3.9 million yuan ($650,000). Its first show quickly became popular online. Lots of people watched the test video and left warm comments. Many people called it the great moment when “science fiction becomes reality”.
The GD01 has many amazing functions. It can change its shape freely, work as a civilian vehicle (民用车辆) on the road, and weighs about 500 kg with a person inside. The company said the 3.9-million-yuan price is only a preliminary (初步的) reference. Huang Jiawei, a marketing worker at Unitree, said the final price would be decided according to more users’ needs.
China’s humanoid robot industry is growing fast these years. In 2025, Chinese companies made nearly 90% of the world’s humanoid robot sales. Experts say the GD01 shows China has crossed a key “engineering threshold (门槛)”. Though it is still not ready for common daily use, the mecha could work in theme parks, rescue (救援) efforts and difficult working environments in the future.
29. The underlined phrase “break through” in Paragraph 2 has the same meaning as _________.
A. We should break through our own shortcomings (缺点) in study
B. The sun can break through the dark clouds
C. Soldiers try to break through the enemy’s line
D. She wants to break through her own limits
30. Which picture shows the GD01’s ability to transform?
A. B. C. D.
31. What’s the structure of the text?
A. ①-②③④-⑤ B. ①-②-③-④-⑤ C. ①②-③-④-⑤ D. ①-②③-④-⑤
32. What is the writer’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce China’s new manned mecha and its influence.
B. To explain how to pilot a giant mecha.
C. To tell people how mechas work in movies.
D. To compare mechas with humanoid robots.
C 30. A 31. A 32. A

第二段提到:“break through walls easily”,这里的“break through”指物理上穿透、突破障碍物。C选项“Soldiers try to break through the enemy’s line”同样指物理上突破防线,含义一致。
第四段明确指出“It can change its shape freely, work as a civilian vehicle (民用车辆) on the road, and weighs about 500 kg with a person inside.”,GD01是可变形机甲,可变形作为民用车辆在道路使用。

In 2026, at the China Internet Civilization Conference, actor Yu Shi’s speech caught widespread attention. Instead of using complex jargon (术语), he talked about how young people can help spread Chinese traditional culture around the world in new ways, based on his own experiences.
Putting Culture into Practice: Making Traditions Come Alive
Yu Shi believes that traditional culture does not lack good content; what it lacks is updated ways of expression. He has given his answer through actions.
Showing Eastern Power with Horse Archery (骑射):
Besides being an actor, Yu Shi is also a horse archery lover. He once represented China in international horse archery competitions. During the event, a short video of him riding a horse while holding a flag unexpectedly became popular on overseas platforms. Many foreign netizens were attracted by his vigorous (刚健的), free-spirited and calm manner, and felt the charm of Chinese traditional culture directly.

“Tradition and the modern are not separated. As long as we find the right way, the spiritual power from history can still reach young people today.”
“Beauty is a universal language that needs no translation. Traditional culture is never just an ancient symbol.”
“When young people reimagine and express traditional culture through music, images and actions, it is no longer just the word ‘tradition’ in books. Instead, it is a way of life that is still alive today.”
More Than Words: A True Cultural Communicator
Yu Shi’s cultural promotion (推广) is not just talk. He practices what he says. He serves as the executive director (执行主任) of the Equestrian Archery Sports Center under the Committee of Horse Culture Sports of the China Ethnic Minorities Sports Association. He even leads teams to take part in international events himself, making real contributions to the development of traditional horse archery.
His work has also been recognized by official media, which see him as an excellent example of young people in the new era. D
(Nancy lives with Bill Sikes, a dangerous thief (小偷), and she is also part of the criminal world he belongs to. Oliver is a young orphan (孤儿) who is in danger, as Sikes plans to harm him.)
Scene One
Nancy had known Sikes for a long time. She had learned to read his moods by the sound of his footsteps and the look in his eyes.
That night, the dark room smelled of smoke and damp (潮湿的) walls. Shadows (阴影) moved on the walls, making the room feel smaller and colder. As Sikes spoke of Oliver, his voice was calm, which scared her more than his anger.
“You’ll do as I say,” he told her.
Nancy said nothing, but his words lay heavily on her mind. She held the table hard, trying not to shake.
Scene Two
Later, when Sikes had gone out, Nancy sat alone. The house was silent except for the floor making noise. She thought of Oliver-- small, helpless, and surrounded by people who wanted to hurt him.
“I’m no better than the rest,” she said to herself. “But he is different.”
The cold wind pressed against the window, making the room feel even lonelier. At last, she stood up, pulled her coat closely around her, and went out into the dark streets, where street lights shone on the wet stone road.
Scene Three
Nancy met Rose Maylie and Mr. Brownlow in secret. Fog was around their feet. Nancy spoke quickly and every time she heard voices far away, she looked back.
“I am the cause of all this…I am not worth your notice or your kindness. I don’t ask you to pity me,” she said. “-- only to protect the boy.”
They listened in silence. When she finished, Rose reached for her hand, but Nancy drew it back (抽回).
“It’s enough that you know,” Nancy said. “I must go.”
Scene Four
Nancy returned to Sikes. The room still smelled of smoke. A cold wind came through the small window, making the curtains move a little. She knew what her choice might cost her, but she did not regret it.
Sikes sat on a wooden chair, his eyes fixed on her as if trying to read her mind.
“You’ ve been out,” he said. Nancy stood near the door, her hands folded in front.
“Yes,” Nancy answered.
Nothing more was said, but the danger had already begun.
- Adapted from Oliver Twist
37. What scared Nancy most according to Scene One?
A. Sikes’ shouting. B. Sikes’ calm voice. C. Shadows on the wall. D. The smell of smoke.

Recently, a short drama called ENEMY (also known as The Twin Sons of Li Yuan) has become very popular online. It is not just a story, but also a loving tribute (致敬) to our traditional culture and patriotism (爱国情怀).
The story is set in the Republic of China. It tells the sad story of two Peking Opera (京剧) performers. To save their countrymen, they pretended to sing for the Japanese army. In the end, they gave their lives on the stage. ____41____
The most attractive part of the drama is its careful presentation of Peking Opera elements. From the actors’ exact movements on stage and beautiful water-sleeve gestures (水袖动作) to the fine patterns on the costumes, every detail shows great respect for traditional culture. ____42____ Instead, they put the beauty and power of this old art into the characters and the story. When the main characters sing and act on stage, they are not just playing roles. They are also showing their national spirit of “preferring to die rather than give up”.
____43____ For example, the names of the main characters, “Chen Jiaotou” and “Chen Xiangkou”, refer to two sad historical events: the Lugou Bridge Incident and the Nanjing Street Battle. By connecting the fictional story with real history, it gives the patriotism a clear foundation.
The success of ENEMY lets us see the great charm of traditional culture in modern stories. ____44____ True “intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产)” is not just relics (文物) kept in museums. It is a living culture that can mix with modern tastes and connect with young people today. ____45____ It tells us that the true essence (精髓) of culture and the love for our country are the most important “heritage” to remember and pass down.
A. It tells us that traditional culture can still shine brightly in today’s world.
B. These are not just beautiful visual effects.
C. The core of the story is built around China’s intangible cultural heritage--Peking Opera.
D. What’s more, many parts of the story have deep historical meanings.
E. The drama uses the most moving way to explain this idea.
F. Many young people don’t like traditional culture very much.
C 42. B 43. D 44. A 45. E
前文“It tells the sad story of two Peking Opera performers. To save their countrymen, they pretended to sing for the Japanese army. In the end, they gave their lives on the stage.” 下一段开头提到“The most attractive part of the drama is its careful presentation of Peking Opera elements.”,选项C“The core of the story is built around China's intangible cultural heritage -- Peking Opera.”
前一句“From the actors’ exact movements on stage and beautiful water-sleeve gestures to the fine patterns on the costumes, every detail shows great respect for traditional culture.”,这些都是视觉层面的描写。 B“These are not just beautiful visual effects.”
D“What’s more, many parts of the story have deep historical meanings.”
前文“The success of ENEMY lets us see the great charm of traditional culture in modern stories.” A“It tells us that traditional culture can still shine brightly in today's world.”紧承前文的“great charm of traditional culture in modern stories”,并自然过渡到后文对“非物质文化遗产”的现代解读。
前文“True ‘intangible cultural heritage’ is not just old relics kept in museums. It is a living culture that can mix with modern tastes and connect with young people today.” 后文“It tells us that the true essence of culture and the love for our country are the most important ‘heritage’ to remember and pass down.”,这里的“It”指代的是前文提到的短剧《ENEMY》。选项E“The drama uses the most touching way to explain this idea.”

For the first time in history, a Chinese illustrator (插画家) has won the Hans Christian Andersen Award (HCA)—widely regarded as the “Nobel Prize” for children’s literature. Her name is Cai Gao, who is lovingly known in China as “Picture Book Grandma”.
Cai Gao was born in 1946 in Changsha, Hunan Province. She grew up in a warm and caring environment. Her family encouraged her interest in art from an early age. They would make regular trips to the theatre, and afterwards, young Cai Gao painted the scenes she remembered. Her grandmother also had a strong influence on her. She loved singing nursery rhymes and telling stories to the family.
Cai Gao once said, “My earliest memories are of a world full of stories. That is why I believe good storytelling is so important for children. A good story should bring children enjoyment. Children can learn new things from stories as well. A good story should also bring them knowledge, which helps children grow better.”
As a student, she often drew illustrations for her school magazine. She later taught in a village for nearly twelve years. During this period, Cai Gao began improving and creating for books and magazines.
Cai creates classical picture books based on Chinese folklore (民俗); her well-known works include Bao’er (The Fox Spirit) and several collections of folk art. Her illustrations are influenced by Chinese ink painting, folk art, and soft colours.
In her work, one can clearly sense the quality, artistry and emotional (情感的) depth she brings to each piece. The way she sees the world is beautiful.
The HCA is the highest international recognition awarded to authors and illustrators of children’s books. Upon winning the award, Cai Gao said: “This honor belongs to all my peers who witnessed and nurtured (滋养) Chinese picture books’ early development.”

I memorized new words in the morning and did reading practice after school. Little by little, my English got much better.

He even leads teams to take part in international events himself, making real contributions to the development of traditional horse archery.
