volunteered for“自愿参加”是志愿服务、focused on“专注于”和turned to“转向”均不能表达“参赛”的具体行为。

Last Thursday marked the 7th International Tea Day, which falls on May 21st every year. Our head teacher, Ms. Li, gave us an interesting class about Chinese tea.
First, Ms. Li showed us how to make tea with tea sets. Then she gave each of us a small cup of tea to taste, and asked us to communicate with each other about its taste, color and smell. After that, she introduced the six types of Chinese tea: green tea, white tea, yellow tea, oolong tea (乌龙茶), black tea and dark tea.
Ms. Li also taught us proper manners for drinking tea. For example, we can tap the table lightly with fingers to show thanks when someone pours tea for us. We must not fill guests’ cups to the top. We should avoid making loud noises while tasting tea, yet we can share our thoughts. For example, we may say, “I love the flavor of this tea. It has a lasting sweet aftertaste.” “The smell of this tea is very unique. It fills me with peace.” As the steam rose from our cups, Ms. Li’s voice softened. “Remember,” she said, “every cup of tea holds more than leaves and water—it holds the connection between guests and hosts. It holds the warmth of sharing, and the slow, fine art of living.”
This class provides us with a valuable lesson about Chinese tea culture. Many young people like to drink coffee or soft drinks. Few of us truly understand the charm of traditional Chinese tea. I’d like to call on everyone to carry forward a tradition that is not only a cultural treasure but also a source of our well-being.

根据第一段“Last Thursday marked the 7th International Tea Day...

根据第三段内容分析选项:A项错误,文中提到“avoid making loud noises”(避免大声喧哗);C项错误,文中提到“must not fill guests’ cups to the top”(不可倒满);D项错误,文中提到“when someone pours tea for us... tap the table”(别人倒茶时我们叩指致谢,而非倒茶者叩指);B项正确,文中提到可以“share our thoughts”并举例说“The smell of this tea is very unique”,说明可以闻香并评论。

Chinese wooden arch (拱形) bridges with covered walkways, known as “Mu Gong Lang Qiao,” have a history of over 900 years. More than just river crossings, they symbolize harmony between people and nature. Listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage (联合国教科文组织非物质文化遗产名录), they are widely recognized for their unique value worldwide.
These bridges are mostly in mountain areas of Fujian and Zhejiang. With many rivers and mountains there, local people created the bridges to cross them. The special structure of the bridges is amazing: it uses no nails (钉子) at all. Skilled workers join wood pieces firmly with traditional methods like “sunmao”. They make the bridges strong enough to last for hundreds of years even in bad weather.
The covered walkways are more useful than imagined. Besides protecting people from wind and rain, they are great public places for villagers to talk, rest, or hold small festival activities for safety and good luck. For local communities, these bridges are the warm heart of daily life and cultural value.
However, this ancient skill once faced the risk of disappearing. City development changed local lifestyles. Typhoons and other natural disasters damaged some old bridges. Luckily, years of continuous efforts improved the situation. Local governments took action, old workers taught their skills to young people, and students joined in some related activities.
Today, these bridges grow with new energy, attracting visitors from all over the world. From connecting small villages to sharing world cultures, the bridges are a living part of Chinese heritage, telling us traditional skills can keep shining in the modern world.
16. Which picture is the Chinese wooden arch bridge?
A. B.
C. D.
17. Why did local people in Fujian and Zhejiang create wooden arch bridges?
A. To attract tourists from other places.
B. To show workers’ skilled handcraft ability.
C. To meet daily needs of crossing rivers and mountains.
D. To get listed as UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage.
18. What can the covered walkways be used for?
① Bringing the local people good luck.
② Keeping people away from wind and rain.
③ Offering a space to hold festival activities.
④ Providing a place for villagers for daily talks.
A. ①②③ B. ②③④ C. ①③④ D. ①②④
19. What can we know from the 4th paragraph?
A. The ancient skill is facing the risk of disappearing.
B. Young people learnt the skills from teachers in school.
C. Local governments made an effort to protect the bridges.
D. The bridges disappeared mainly because of natural disasters.
20. Which is the best title of the passage?
A. The History of Chinese Wooden Arch Bridges
B. The Importance of Chinese Wooden Arch Bridges
C. Chinese Wooden Arch Bridges: Sharing Chinese Culture

B 17. C 18. B 19. C 20. D
第二段明确指出:“With many rivers and mountains there, local people created the bridges to cross them.”,说明当地人造桥是为了满足跨越河流和山脉的日常通行需求。
C
I still remember the last geography lesson before the gaokao. After giving us her final tips, Ms. Zhu closed her book and looked at us thoughtfully. “I hope that you’ve learned more than just how to prepare for exams over these years. After all, the gaokao is not an end, but a new start.”
Ms. Zhu then talked about a geography term: orientation. In geography, orientation matters a lot. Explorers must always know where they are and where they are heading. “The same is true with life: always be sure about what you have achieved and what you want next.”
Although I didn’t fully understand then, her words left a lasting impression. Looking back, I realize that this sense of orientation has guided me whenever I feel lost.
Many people feel nervous when they move from one stage of life to another. For example, should I try to enter a top high school far away or an average one nearby? Should I join a summer camp or just finish my homework and relax?
These difficult times are now called the “Odyssey Years (奥德赛时期)” — life stages when people are not sure where they are heading. In the Greek poem The Odyssey, the hero Odysseus tried very hard for ten years to return home after the war. He had to pass the dangerous sea creatures (生物) called Sirens and was stuck on an island for years. Odysseus had moments of doubt, faced hard choices and felt alone at times, like many people now experiencing their “Odyssey Years.” Yet Odysseus always knew where he wanted to go — home — and kept moving. His orientation and determination carried him through.
As the future becomes uncertain, it’s natural to feel nervous or lost. At such times, try to build a sense of orientation. Ask yourself: What have I achieved? What do I want next? Then, keep moving forward.
21. What does the word “orientation” mean in the second paragraph?
A. A feeling of fear and doubt.
B. A summer study trip after the gaokao.
C. A difficult journey full of challenges.
D. A clear sense of your situation and next goal.
22. What does “Odyssey Years” now refer to?
A. The first ten years after the gaokao.
B. The years when everything goes perfectly.
C. The ten years of returning home after the war.
D. The time when people feel lost about life choices.
23. Why does the writer mention the hero Odysseus?
A. To tell what happened to Odysseus after the war.
B. To show even a hero can feel lost during difficult times.
C. To explain where the name “Odyssey Years” comes from.
D. To prove the challenges he faced were bigger than the gaokao.
24. How does the writer develop the passage?
A. By connecting a personal story to a bigger idea.
B. By listing different examples during the “Odyssey years.”
C. By raising questions about life choices and answering them.
D. By comparing the writer’s experience with Odysseus’s journey.
25. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To describe the writer’s geography teacher.
B. To explain why the Odyssey Years are difficult.
C. To advise readers to build a sense of orientation.
D. To compare the story of Odysseus with modern life.
D 22. D 23. C 24. A 25. C
第二段中解释“orientation”时提到:“Explorers must always know where they are and where they are heading.”以及“The same is true with life: always be sure about what you have achieved and what you want next.”,说明“orientation”指的是一种清楚自己处境和下一个目标的清晰感觉。
根据第五段中“These difficult times are now called the ‘Odyssey Years...’ — life stages when people are not sure where they are heading.”(这些困难时期现在被称为“奥德赛时期”——人们不确定何去何从的人生阶段),可知该词指代人们在生活中感到迷茫的时期。
文章最后一段总结道:“At such times, try to build a sense of orientation...

Life is not lacking in beauty; what is lacking is the eye to discover it. My experience of feeling the beauty was in a very special activity.
Last term, I joined a volunteer activity at an old people’s home. We cleaned the rooms, read newspapers to the elderly, and chatted with them. One old lady held my hand and said, “Thank you for coming.” Her smile and warm words touched my heart deeply.
