So she held a puppet show at school and drew more attention. Now the old art is getting more interest and new stories.

Violent Video Games: Harmless Fun or Gateways (途径) to Violence (暴力)?
Video games filled with killing and other acts of violence are a favorite of many teenagers. Are they just harmless fun? Or should they be banned (禁止) for being damaging to young minds? Opinions differ widely. Here’s how seven people of different ages responded when asked, “Are violent video games a proper form of entertainment for teenagers?”
Liam (17): “Yes! They’re just games. I’ve played them for years, and I’m not violent at all. A lot of adults think that young people can’t tell fantasy from reality, but that’s ridiculous. Maybe it’s true for very young children, but not for teens. It’s just like watching action movies. We know they’re just dumb fun, not something to copy in real life.”
Sarah (42): “Not for my teenagers. I worry that by playing violent video games regularly, they’ll start seeing violence as a solution to everything. I don’t want my children’s first reaction to a problem to be shoot, shoot, kill, kill!”
Jordan (25): “Well, I grew up playing them, and I turned out fine. In fact, I was quite an angry teenager, but I found that playing those games helped me let off steam. So in a weird way, they helped make me less aggressive (好斗的).”
Emma (61): “No way. I’m a teacher, and over the years, I’ve noticed the kids in my class have become a lot more aggressive. I’m sure that change comes down to the growing popularity of this type of video games.”
Mia (16): “I don’t personally like them-they scare me! But I think they’re fine if you like that kind of thing and your parents educate you about them. My little brother does, and my dad has spoken to him about them. He knows there’s nothing fun about real-life violence.”
Carlos (30): “If we let kids watch violent movies and violence on the news, then I don’t see why violent video games should be off-limits. The world has violence in it, so these games help prepare teenagers for reality.”
Ryan (36): “Maybe not the ones with super-realistic violence. I can see how they could set a bad example for some young people. But there are lots of games where the violence is really cartoonish. Those types are fine, I think, as they’re so obviously fantasy.”

Teenagers (青少年) will finally grow up some day, leaving their parents and facing the challenges (挑战) in life alone, so they should learn basic life skills and develop good working habits.
The government has been trying to pay attention to the importance of hardworking spirit education (劳动教育). But this has been overlooked in recent years. Many teenagers do not value the importance of working hard. There is a teenage girl named Nancy. She never helps out around the house. Once her mother was on vacation for a week, leaving her alone at home. When her mother came home from vacation, she could not find a clean dish or a clean shirt.
Schools play an important role in teaching students about the value of working hard. Primary and middle schools should provide students with hardworking spirit courses (课程) every week. To our joy, some schools have provided each class with a piece of field to plant their favourite vegetables. For example, No.38 Middle School in Hefei has set up a 500-square-metre farm on an open platform of their teaching building. Each class is asked to grow and pick vegetables there.
Parents should also encourage children to learn how to do chores (家务) at home. Teenagers should get one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing clothes and tidying up their rooms. These basic skills may help teens to solve the problems they will meet in the future.
7.The writer gives the example of Nancy in the second paragraph to show________.
A.Nancy is too busy to help out around the house
B.Many teenagers don’t value the importance of working hard
C.Nancy’s parents don't want her to help with chores at home
D.Many teenagers don't depend on their parents too much.
8.What should primary and middle schools do to teach students the value of hard work?
A.Ask students to help with housework at home.
B.Provide weekly hardworking spirit courses.
C.Let students plant vegetables on school farms only on weekends.
D.Set up farms in every student's community.
9.Which of the following is NOT true?
A.Schools should teach students the value of working hard.
B.Parents should encourage their children to do chores at home.
C.The government never pays attention to hardworking spirit education.
D.Teens should get life skills which may help them solve the problem in the future.
10.Which of the following is the structure (结构) of the passage?
A. B. C. D.

A recent study by the University of Cambridge has shown that a good night’s sleep does more than just rest the body—it actively strengthens memory and learning in teenagers. In the study, 200 students aged 14 to 17 were divided into two groups. One group slept for 8 to 9 hours, while the other group only slept for 5 to 6 hours. Both groups were given a set of new vocabulary words to memorize in the evening. The next morning, they were tested. Surprisingly, the well-slept group scored 30% higher on average.
Brain scans showed that during deep sleep, the brain replays the information learned during the day and transfers it from short-term to long-term memory. Researchers also found that looking at screens before bedtime reduces the quality of sleep and weakens this process. They advise teenagers to turn off electronic devices at least one hour before sleep and keep a regular sleep schedule. Dr. Emily White, the lead researcher, said, “Teens often sacrifice sleep for study, but this research proves that a tired brain is far less effective at remembering.”
11.What did the study find about sleep?
A.It only rests the body. B.It can improve exam scores directly.
C.It strengthens memory and learning. D.It has no effect on teenagers.
12.How were the two groups different?
A.Their ages. B.The amount of sleep.
C.The difficulty of words. D.The time of test.
13.What does the brain do during deep sleep?
A.Creates new words. B.Moves information to long-term memory.
C.Reads vocabulary silently. D.Stops all activities.
14.What is recommended for better sleep?
A.Drink coffee before bed. B.Study until midnight.
C.Avoid screens an hour before sleep. D.Take sleeping pills.

We’re the first generation (一代人) that grew up with smartphones in our hands and social media in our pockets. We chat, study, and even hang out mostly online. It feels like we’re always connected, but many of us feel lonelier than ever. Looking through the texts and videos, we see everyone’s “perfect” life: bright photos, nice trips, and endless successes. We start comparing our real, messy days to their best moments. Slowly, self-doubt comes in—am I good enough? Pretty enough? Successful enough? This pressure shows in our mental health.
Studies from recent years show that anxiety (焦虑) and depression (情绪低落) among young people have risen quickly since 2010. Many of us feel stressed, worried, or sad for no clear reason, and it’s hard to just “cheer up”. Sleep has also become a big problem. We stay up late looking through short videos or chatting, telling ourselves “just five more minutes.” But blue light from screens breaks our sleep cycles (周期). Tired brains will create a bad cycle that’s hard to break.
The good news! More young people are talking openly about mental health now. We’re no longer ashamed to say we feel down or stressed. Small steps help: putting the phone down for an hour, hanging out with friends face-to-face, or even just taking a walk outside.
The digital world brings real challenges to our minds. It’s normal to have difficulties, and it’s okay to ask for help. Our feelings matter, and we can build a healthier relationship with our phones—and with ourselves.
15.Why do many young people feel lonely according to the first paragraph?
A.They have no friends in real life.
B.They spend too much time studying online.
C.They don’t like chatting with people online.
D.They see others’ perfect lives and compare their own.
16.What affects young people’s sleep cycles according to the text?
A.Staying up late to study. B.Blue light from screens.
C.Feeling anxious and negative. D.Chatting with friends for a long time.
17.Which word can take the place of “ashamed” in the third paragraph?
A.shy B.crazy C.sad D.weak
18.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.How to build a healthy relationship with friends.
B.The reason why young people have sleep problems.
C.How young people use smartphones and social media.
D.Digital mental health problems among teens and solutions.
19.What’s the writer’s attitude towards the digital world?
A.Very pleased. B.Worried but hopeful.
C.Completely negative. D.Uninterested but calm.

In today's digital (数字) world, privacy (隐私) is very important, especially for teens using social media. When teens post and share online, they leave behind a digital footprint (足迹) that can stay for a long time.
Digital footprints can be divided into two types. One is active: information you choose to share, like posts and photos. The other is passive (被动的): information collected without you knowing it, like websites that record your visits or apps that collect your position. Both types matter because all these footprints are not easy to take away completely. That is why it is important for teens to develop safe online habits. Here are some tips.
Use privacy settings. This is the first line of protection. Teens should manage who can see their posts and personal pages, and only accept connections from people they know. Also, teens should avoid sharing too much personal information. Even small details, like their school names or vacation plans, can be misused by strangers or bring unwanted attention.
Another thing to keep in mind is to be careful with public Wi-Fi. Public Wi-Fi in coffee shops or libraries is easy to use but often not safe. Teens should not visit their private information on it without protection. Respect digital manners. Teens should treat others with respect and think before posting, especially when angry or upset. Good digital manners help prevent harm to others and also protect teens themselves.
By understanding privacy risks, managing personal information carefully, and developing safe online habits, teens can protect themselves better.
20.Which of the following is an example of the active digital footprint?
A.A website records your visits.
B.A plan you write in your notebook.
C.A photo you post on your personal page.
D.An app gets your position without asking.
21.How can good digital manners help teens?
A.Make more friends online. B.Avoid harming others.
C.Use public Wi-Fi more easily. D.Make their posts popular.
22.What is the structure of the text?
A. B. C. D.
23.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To give advice on how to protect privacy online.
B.To teach teens how to make digital footprints online.
C.To show why sharing personal information is important.
D.To explain the differences between two types of footprints.

In an era of constant connectivity, teenagers are surrounded by smartphones, social media and endless online content. While technology brings convenience, it also leads to problems like shortened attention spans, sleep loss and increased anxiety. To deal with these issues, a growing number of teens are turning to digital minimalism (数字极简主义) —a lifestyle that focuses on using technology intentionally (有意地) rather than mindlessly (无意地).
Digital minimalism isn’t about abandoning technology completely. Instead, it encourages teens to evaluate (评价) which digital tools are truly necessary and limit the use of those that don’t add value to their lives. For example, some teens choose to turn off non-essential notifications (通知), set fixed daily screen time limits, or even take “digital detox” weekends where they avoid social media and games completely. By doing so, they can free up time for face-to-face interactions, hobbies and academic pursuits.
A recent study conducted by a youth research center found that teens who practice digital minimalism show better academic performance and higher levels of emotional well-being. They are more likely to engage in physical activities and have stronger relationships with family and friends. However, adopting this lifestyle isn’t easy. It requires self-discipline and the courage to resist (抵抗) the pressure of constant online updates. Many teens admit that the initial period is challenging, as they feel anxious without checking their phones frequently.
Experts suggest that parents and schools can play an important role in supporting teens’ journey towards digital minimalism. By guiding them to understand the impact of excessive screen time and helping them develop healthy tech habits, adults can help teens build a more balanced relationship with technology. Ultimately, digital minimalism is not just a trend—it’s a valuable skill that helps teens navigate the digital world wisely and grow into well-rounded individuals.
24.What is the core idea of digital minimalism?

During the 2021 Shanghai Fashion Week, a young, thin and confident model who is named Niu Yu with an iron leg drew everyone’s attention. She lost her right leg in the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake when she was only 11 years old.
Niu Yu used to have a deep love for running. However, the sudden change destroyed (摧毁) her dream completely. She had to depend on a man-made leg to walk, which was not only uncomfortable but also caused bleeding on her skin. Worse still, the stares from strangers made her feel uneasy and embarrassed. For years, she always tried to cover her iron leg with long jeans or dresses, refusing to let anyone see her “imperfection”.
With the patient support and encouragement from her family and close friends, Niu Yu gradually stepped out of the darkness of the disaster. In 2018, just before her 21st birthday, she made a brave decision — to stop hiding her leg and face the world with her true self. To her unexpected joy, her choice won encouragement online. Later, she challenged herself to finish a half marathon in about 4 hours, a success that even some healthy people could hardly achieve. This experience marked the end of her 10-year long journey of self-acceptance and self-rediscovery.
Now, Niu Yu shares her life stories and positive attitudes on social media. She often communicates with others who have the same experience as her, encouraging them to look forward to the future instead of thinking too much. In 2023, she was chosen as a torchbearer (火炬手) for the FISU World University Games. “It is a precious chance to show people the amazing power of bravery and strong will, and to tell those who are suffering that they are never alone.”
A disaster (灾难) may leave unforgettable wounds, but it is how we choose to face the hardships and rebuild our lives that really matters.

In students' daily talks, celebrities are usually a hot topic, including their dress, behavior, families and other personal things. Then, is it a celebrity job to be a good role model? Please read the following students' debate.
Is it a celebrity’s job to be a good role model?
It's a celebrity job to be a good role model because people usually look up to stars. If a celebrity drinks and smokes, his fans will follow him because they look up to the celebrity so much. If a celebrity's lifestyle is inappropriate for kids, then their parents should be more careful about what they let their kids see.
I think everyone should try to be a good role model, even if you are not a celebrity! You can still be a role model to your sisters and brothers a younger neighbor, or anyone. But I be very good because they are role models for so many people !
A celebrity doesn't have to try to be a good role model. They are famous because they worked hard at what they love for a living. They should, however, try to make good choices for themselves, not their fans. Lots of stars have to post apology letters after being caught doing bad things. It's good, but if the only reason they do is to win back their fans, it's not good
Although it is a wonderful thing to be a good role model, that's not what the celebrities must do. They are famous because they love what they do and are good at it. Being a role model is never in the job. If the celebrity knows they are affecting the young people, they should try hard to set a good example.
43.Which of the following reasons is Not from the pros?
A.People usually look up to stars.
B.Everyone should try to be a good role model.
C.Although it is a wonderful thing to be a role model, that's not what the celebrities must do.
D.Celebrities are role models for so many people.
44.What does the underlined word “ inappropriate ” mean?
A.难以言说的 B.非同寻常的 C.不恰当的 D.难以置信的
45.According to the cons, how do some people become famous?
A.By working hard at what they love. B.By setting a good example to others.
C.By making good choices for themselves. D.By winning the love of their fans.
46.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to their words?
A.It is easy for stars to win back fans,
B.Celebrities should apologize to the public.
C.Stars may sometimes do something wrong.
D.Family members should encourage kids to be stars.
47.What conclusion(结论)can we draw from their opinions?
A.When you become a celebrity, you have been a good role model, too.
B.Even though a celebrity makes mistakes, young people should follow him.
C.Parents shouldn’t allow kids to look up to stars.
D.Whether a celebrity is a role model or not, he should care about his behavior.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always looked up to my elder brother. No matter how old I am, I’ve always seen myself copying every small thing that he does. I play the video games that he plays, I copy his hairstyle, and I eat the type of food that he eats.
My brother is like a superhero in my eyes. He was a straight A student at high school as well as the captain of the school soccer team. It’s been difficult trying to live up to the expectations that were set by my brother, but whether consciously (有意识地) or not, I’ll always try to be like him. He motivates (激发) me like a rabbit motivates a wolf. The wolf’s goal is food, while mine is to be as outstanding as my brother.
Younger brothers can influence the behavior of elder siblings (brothers and sisters) just as much as an elder brother can influence a younger sibling. I had a conversation with my brother about his experience growing up with me. He joked with me that it felt like the world punished him with having to deal with me. Yet he expressed that he was grateful to me, because he understood I would take inspiration from him so he chose to be his best self. My brother and I have inspired each other to do the best we can.
A researcher Birg Rabe has found a correlation (相关性) between a sibling relationship where younger siblings’ marks have improved because they have an elder sibling as their role model. “The younger siblings’ marks rose by 4%. The effect was greater among siblings from poorer families, and the rise was 11%.” Having a sibling undoubtedly benefits children’s school achievement.
Not only can siblings influence each other’s study, but they can positively benefit each other’s social behavior as well. A study done by researchers in the Brigham Young University shows that children with sound or pleasant sibling relationships have learned important social skills, such as helping and being able to share with others. They’ve also learned to deal with arguments and how to solve them. I bet anyone who has a sibling knows the struggle of having to argue for days with their sibling, but I also bet, that they learn important lessons from every one of their arguments.
Even though you may hear many bad things about having a sibling, it actually has some unexpected benefits. Learn to enjoy all the benefits a sibling brings you, and be the best sibling you can.
48.The writer always copies his elder brother because ______.
A.he looks up to his brother B.he wants to influence his brother
C.his brother is strict with him D.his brother plays video games well
49.Birg Rabe finds having elder siblings as role models helps younger ones ______.
A.make progress in their school achievement
B.become more successful when they grow up
C.get better marks than their brothers and sisters
D.learn more important social skills than their friends
50.The word “sound” in Paragraph 5 probably means “______”.

参考答案
1.
I think the photo named Get Together is great.
In the photo, a big family is sitting around a table, having a big meal happily. Everyone has a big smile on their faces.
This photo reminds me of my own Spring Festival experiences. Every year, no matter how busy my parents are, they will go back home to celebrate the festival with my grandparents. We usually make dumplings and enjoy a big dinner together on New Year’s Eve. We also share our interesting stories and express our best wishes to each other.
In my opinion, the Spring Festival is not only a time for delicious food, but also a great chance for family reunion. That’s why I strongly recommend this photo.

Dear Editor,
I’d like to share my own opinion on this AI-generated poster. I recommend publishing it because it perfectly fits the theme.
In the poster, I can see students doing different things to protect the environment. Some are planting trees, some are making crafts from recycled materials, and others are cleaning up the river. These actions show us how to live a green life.
However, it lacks some words to make it more attractive. I suggest writing a big title like “World Environment Day” at the top. It would be better if we add a slogan such as “Protecting the environment is everyone’s duty”. I believe it will be a great poster after these improvements. Thanks for giving us a say in your decision.
Sincerely yours,

A.Abandoning all digital devices completely.
B.Using technology as much as possible.
C.Using technology in a purposeful way.
D.Limiting all online activities on weekends.
25.What can we infer from the study mentioned in the passage?
A.Digital minimalism benefits teens’ study and mental health.
B.Most teens have already adopted digital minimalism.
