As the saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child.” And one neighborhood in our community truly understands the importance of coming together to support each other.

Every year almost all of the 330 million tennis balls made worldwide are thrown away. Lots of them end up in landfill, where they can take up to 400 years to decompose (分解). Players don’t use tennis balls for very long before they are replaced. In big tennis games, the balls are hit so hard that they are changed after the first seven games, and then every nine games after that. This is to make sure the balls stay smooth and energetic.
The ITF has put together a team of scientists to try to find a way to design a fully recyclable tennis ball. They are also testing to see if tennis balls could be used for longer before being replaced.

Every year almost all of the 330 million tennis balls made worldwide are thrown away. Lots of them end up in landfill, where they can take up to 400 years to decompose (分解). The International Tennis Federation (ITF) is trying to find out if tennis balls can be produced and used in a way that is kinder to the planet.
