You’ve probably seen pretty plates made of special clay (黏土), but did you know they can have little cut-out designs (设计) and clay flowers on them? This is called Tonghua porcelain (瓷器), and it comes from a place called Fengxi town in Chaozhou city, Guangdong Province. It’s so special that it became a national treasure in 2008.
Ye Hao, born in 1995, comes from a family that makes Tonghua porcelain. He’s been learning how to make it for 10 years and is creatively bringing new life to it.
Seeing the number of people with Tonghua skills drop quickly in Chaozhou, he felt sad and he wanted to learn and preserve the art, Ye began learning it in high school, believing that every Tonghua porcelain piece has a life of its own.
“My grandpa always encouraged me to practice more,” Ye said. He learned that the clay needs the right amount of water, or it will crack (裂开). After learning all the skills, he found that designing is the hardest part. Because Tonghua porcelain has lots of little cut-out shapes, and you have to think about how big they are and how they’re put together. If a cut-out is too large, it is likely to crack during firing.
Ye wants to make the art more creative, so he’s combining (结合) Tonghua porcelain with daily things and his hobbies. For example, he made a special pin (胸针) with a clay rose that was picked by the Culture Department in Guangdong as a special gift. He also likes cartoons, so he designed six cups with characters from the cartoon “The Outcast” on top, mixing traditional art with pop culture.
Ye says he will keep finding ways to make the art part of everyday life and show it to more people with new designs.
24. What does the underlined word “preserve” in para.3 mean?

“You are going to show me the future,” Scrooge continued, “Am I right Ghost?” The ghost nodded its head, that was the only answer Scrooge received, “Ghost of the Future,” he said, “I am more afraid of you than the Ghost of Past and the Ghost of the Present. But because I want to be a better man, I will go with you. Please, speak to me.”
It didn’t reply. The hand pointed straight in front of them. “Lead on!” said Scrooge. The ghost moved forwards. Scrooge followed in the shadow of its clothes. And the clothes carried him along. The city appeared around them. There they were, in the heart of it. The Ghost stopped beside some businessmen at the Stock Exchange. His hand was pointing to them, so Scrooge listened to their conversation.
“I only know he’s dead,” said a great fat man. “When did he die?” asked another. “Last night, I think.”
“What was the matter with him?” asked a third, “God knows,” said the first, with a yawn (呵欠).
“What has he done with his money?” Asked a red-faced gentleman, “That’s so much!”
“I don’t know,” said the great fat man, yawning again. “He hasn’t left it to me. That’s all I know.”
This joke was received with a general laugh, “It’s likely to be a very cheap funeral (葬礼),” said the same speaker, “For upon my life I don’t know of anybody to go to it. He is mean and has no friends. Suppose we make up a party, and volunteer?”
“I don’t mind going if a lunch is provided,” said the gentleman, “But I must be fed, if I make one.”
Another laugh.
“Well, I am the most disinterested among you, after all,” said the first speaker, “for I never wear black gloves, and I never eat lunch. But I’ll offer to go, if anybody else will.”
From A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens

Do you love the bright light of the spring sunrise, or the magic hour before a sunset? Do you notice the night sky in many nature photos? As a nature photographer, I love to take pictures of night sky. The way I place things changes when I add the Milky Way swirling (旋转) above, or some shooting stars.
Stars are always my favorite part of nature photos. The night sky connects us to the big universe. It became one part of our traditional culture and art long time ago and let us develop technology to find out more things about space.
But as the world has become more industrialized (工业化), we’ve started to lose the clear view of the night sky that many people and animals used to enjoy. Because we use too much light, stars are not as bright. For photographers who want to capture (捕捉) the beauty of the night sky, they need to find new places.
Thanks to groups that want to protect nature, like the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), we have a chance to make our night skies better. By having International Dark-Sky Week, a yearly event to celebrate the night sky, the IDA is helping cities, communities, and families do their part to make the skies darker. Dark skies are good for more than just photographers, they are important for many kinds of animals that need them too.
Here are some simple steps we all can do:
Change your light bulbs to ones that are better for the night sky. The more the light looks like a fire and not too blue or white, the better it is for nature.
Use a flashlight that directs the light down and away from the sky.
Turn off your lights before bed!
32. How does the writer start this passage?
A. By giving explanations. B. By telling a story.
C. By listing some numbers. D. By asking questions.
33. What is a problem for the writer in the industrial world?
A. Low air quality. B. Fewer places to live in.
C. Light pollution. D. Little interest in stars.
34. What action has the IDA taken for the problem discussed in the text?
A. Holding a photo competition every year. B. Setting up protected areas for wildlife.
C. Selling environmentally-friendly light bulbs. D. Organizing a dark-sky celebration every year.
35. What will the writer probably talk about after the last paragraph?
A. The importance of the little actions. B. The future of the nature photographers.
C. The photos he took in dark skies. D. The reasons why we should control light.

①Since the birth of AI robots, many people have been hoping these smart machines would help us with boring chores. Robots on show at the 2024 World Robot Conference showed that tech companies want to make this happen.
②“People are looking for smarter and more humanized robots,” said Meng Yuan, the boss of DEEP Robotics, who joined in the conference. “We don’t want to spend much time giving orders or controlling them. They can do this by themselves.” Meng said.
③Take the company’s robot dog X30, for example. The robot dog can understand its environment and move around without hitting things. The X30 uses built-in cameras and laser radars (激光雷达) to collect information. It then processes (处理) this information, breaking it down into smaller tasks. After deciding on the skills involved in the mission, the robot chooses skills from its skill set to perform these tasks. Developers at DEEP Robotics explained that the robot’s autonomous behaviors (自主行为) and improvement come about through real-life learning and training, not just from remembering “the rules”.
④The X30 has recently become a household name at Zhejiang University, where it is busy helping students carry their heavy bags across the university. Robot dogs like this one are becoming real helpers in our daily lives.
⑤Atribot S1, another humanoid robot, showed its humanization during the conference through its amazing “hands”. Many were shocked to see it skillfully perform Chinese calligraphy (书法) and dulcimer (扬琴). Atribot S1 also learned how to clean the bottom of a teapot with a cloth.
⑥“The fast growth of generative (生成的) AI, such as ChatGPT, will give humanoid robots a real ‘soul’, improving their decision-making abilities,” Ren C. Luo, a professor from Taiwan, said.
⑦However, as Luo pointed out, “the percentage of real application (应用) of generative AI on robots is now less than 5 percent. There is still a lot of room for improvement.”
36. What is the advantage of the smarter robots according to Meng Yuan?
A. Smaller size. B. Less human control.
C. Lower cost. D. More real applications.
37. In what order does the robot dog X30 work?
a. The robot chooses skills from its skill set. b. The robot processes the information.
c. The robot collects information. d. The robot performs the task.
A. abcd B. cbad C. acdb D. cdba
38. What can be inferred about the X30 robot from the passage?
A. It will completely replace human jobs in a short time.
B. It learns through real-life learning and training as well as the rules.
C. It can perform all difficult tasks without human control.
D. It will come up with a better way to carry the bags after doing this more times.
39. Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?
A. B.
C. D.

Ⅵ. 任务型阅读。(65~67小题,每小题2分,68小题3分,共9分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容,完成下列各题。
Li Jinqi lifted a spear (矛), placed it on her shoulders, and spun (旋转) it quickly. Following her lead, 10 classmates in two rows (列), dressed in the same kung fu cloth, copied her moves.
Li is a student at Beihang University in Beijing, but she is more famous as a martial arts master (武术大师). She has studied various martial arts styles and won several competitions in Beijing. She also led a martial arts club, which has grown from a team of 2 to over 30 members.
“Martial arts has become a big hit on campus, and I heard that my middle school and high school have both offered martial arts courses,” says Li. “I don’t think martial arts is about fighting,” she adds, “Martial arts is about finding the best version of yourself.”
Gao Xiaoya, a student at Beihang, also joined the club. Gao is one of the young people who were first drawn to martial arts as a way to keep fit. But when they realized the advantages of the traditional values and culture, they love the art more. “And when you realize that martial arts have taught you how to face challenges and be confident, you start to enjoy it more.” says the 21-year-old student.
Here’s a discussion between two groups of students. They are expressing their own ideas about “Should martial arts be introduced into middle schools?”
Helen: Hey Betty, have you noticed that a lot of students don’t seem to have much physical strength these days?
Betty: Yeah. They spend so much time sitting in the classroom and doing homework all day. It’s like there’s no time for any whole-body exercise.
Helen: Yes! That’s why I think doing martial arts could be really helpful for them. It can improve their flexibility and even help them develop better balance.
Betty: Oh, sounds great. But are there any mental benefits to it?
Helen: Of course! Martial arts can also help them feel calmer and reduce their stress. It’s not just about physical fitness but about the mind too.
Tom: You know, martial arts can be a great way to exercise. And I heard that our school will introduce it into our P.E. class.
Jack: Wow, really? But the senior high school entrance exam doesn’t include martial arts. It might take up our time.
Tom: Yeah, and there are some other problems we should pay attention to. For example, some of the weapons like swords (剑) and spears (矛) are too sharp. They could hurt some students.
Jack: Exactly. That’s why I think martial arts shouldn’t be introduced into PE class in middle schools.

How many students in your class wear glasses? Probably a lot. To treat nearsightedness (近视), many choose surgery (手术). But can you have good eyesight after the surgery forever?
People with nearsightedness can’t see things correctly because their eyes can’t focus light correctly. Normally, light enters the eye and focuses directly on the retina (视网膜). In nearsighted people, light focuses in front of the retina. As a result, far-away objects appear unclear while close objects remain clear.
Usually, nearsighted adults deal with nearsightedness through surgeries like laser eye surgery (激光手术), which reshapes the cornea (角膜) using lasers, or IOLs, which replace the lenses (晶状体) with a clear one. For kids, they can wear keratoscopes (角膜镜).
“After the surgery, life is more convenient,” said Xu Jiayi. “However, it hurt a lot after the surgery and taking medicine afterward was troublesome.” She added.
“The surgery just lets you ‘take off your glasses’. If you don’t look after your eye health, nearsightedness may return after a surgery. After looking at the computer all day at work and then using my phone, things start to look unclear to me again,” said Du Anni, 32, who had a laser eye surgery nine years ago. She also mentioned that you should go to the doctors to check if your eyes are OK each year.

Spreading Traditional Chinese Culture
My favorite traditional art is paper cutting. It has a long history and is used during festivals to bring good luck and happiness.
Last year, I joined an art club at school. I learned to use scissors to cut paper into beautiful shapes like flowers and animals. I fell in love with paper cutting and made great progress. This art has a great influence on me.
To spread it, I will make posters and post short videos online. On festivals, I will teach my friends to cut “Fu” characters. I hope more people can learn and love paper cutting. Let’s work together to keep our culture alive.
