Dorsa Yavarivafa, a 16-year-old badminton player, once had dreams just like any other child. What made her different was that she never gave up her dream, even when life turned difficult.
Dorsa’s badminton journey started in a small park in Tehran. Every weekend, her father would take her there, patiently teaching her how to hold the racket and hit the shuttlecock. She was only six at that time. The sound of the shuttlecock flying across the park, along with her father’s encouraging smiles, became the happiest part of her life. As she grew older, she began to take part in local competitions. At ten, she won a medal in a junior match and kept it carefully in her badminton bag—as a reminder of her dream.
But two years later, her father died in an accident. Life became difficult. She had to leave her hometown with her mother. They traveled across several countries, sometimes sleeping in small houses and eating food from kind people.
Through those difficult times, Dorsa always carried her badminton bag with her. She didn’t have proper sports clothes, but that didn’t stop her. She ran on dusty roads and across quiet fields. “I didn’t have much, but I had my legs and my will,” she said. Her hard work finally paid off. Last year, she took part in the Paris Olympics. “It felt like a dream come true,” she smiled.
Now living in London, Dorsa continues to train and hopes to take part in more international games. She also serves as a volunteer for a charity that helps children. Last month, she visited a school for kids in need and taught them how to hold a racket and hit a shuttlecock. “I want to tell every child who feels lost,” she said, “never stop dreaming, and never give up.”

Plastic is everywhere in our daily lives. It is used to make bottles, toys and many other common products. However, only about 9% of the plastic we use is recycled. The rest is either burned or thrown away, causing serious environmental problems.
Plastics should break down naturally over time. But right now, existing plastics don’t break down completely in the sea. Instead, they turn into small pieces called microplastics. These small pieces are often eaten by fish, birds and other sea animals, which can harm their health. Scientists even warn that by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in the sea. What’s worse, microplastics can also get into our soil, water, and the food we eat, and may finally enter our bodies.
A new kind of plastic may be a good solution to this problem. It was developed by scientists from the RIKEN Centre. Different from traditional plastics, this new material can fully dissolve in salty seawater. When it dissolves, it breaks down into the natural materials it was made from. Then, tiny living things in the environment can break these materials down quickly. Tests show that the new plastic can break down in just a few hours in seawater and about 10 days in soil.
This new plastic is not only safe for the environment but also hard to burn. When heated to 248°F (about 120℃), it can be easily shaped into different forms. It could also be used in 3D printing and to make common products like medical tools or single-use food bags.
As the lead researcher said, “With this new material, we have created a new family of plastics. Most importantly, these plastics do not produce microplastics and are truly eco-friendly.”

A. Microplastics will become food for fish.
B. There will be no fish in the sea after 2050.
C. Plastic will break down quickly in the ocean.

33. Why does the writer introduce the new plastic?
A. To introduce a possible solution to plastic pollution.
B. To show the advantages of 3D printing technology.
C. To explain why traditional plastic is hard to break down.
D. To describe how scientists work on environmental problems.
34. What is the lead researcher’s attitude towards the new plastic?

根据材料内容选择最佳答案。
31. What problem does the first paragraph mainly talk about?
A. Plastic is used to make too many things.
B. Most plastic waste is not properly dealt with.
C. Burning plastic is bad for people’s health.
D. Making new plastic costs too much money.
32. What might happen if plastic pollution continues?
A. Microplastics will become food for fish.
B. There will be no fish in the sea after 2050.
C. Plastic will break down quickly in the ocean.
D. Plastic waste may finally do harm to humans.

B. We should stop using plastic in our daily lives.
C. Scientists are working hard to protect sea animals.
D. A new invention might help solve plastic pollution.
