On May 10, China’s research ship Tansuo-1 returned to Guangzhou after a 156-day journey. It carried the deep-sea submersible (潜水器) Fendouzhe. The team included 83 young scientists from six countries: China, Chile, Germany, Denmark, Canada, and Spain. They left Sanya on December 6, 2025. During the trip, they travelled over 40,000 kilometers across the Pacific Ocean. This trip was part of the Global Hadal Exploration (探索) Program, a project to research the deepest ocean places.
During the journey, Fendouzhe made 63 dives. Fifty of these were below 6,000 meters. The young scientists collected many materials from sea animals, rocks, and water. They found a special deep-sea ecosystem that lives without sunlight. Instead, it gets energy from chemicals on the seafloor. The team also discovered at least three new types of snailfish (狮子鱼), which can survive under very high pressure. In addition, they even saw signs of big earthquakes on the seabed. All these discoveries show how amazing the deep ocean is.
The 156-day journey was a great success. Young scientists from different countries worked together closely. They found a “dark life oasis (绿洲)”—an area where life uses only chemical energy. It helps people learn more about our planet. The young explorers feel proud of their work. Their discoveries inspire other young people to study science and explore the unknown.
31.How does the writer start the passage?
A.By telling a story. B.By giving facts. C.By showing opinions.
32.What was the purpose of the Global Hadal Exploration Program?

35.What is the main idea of the passage?

B.The success of the deep-sea exploration.
C.The introduction of China's research ship.
D

Do you know about sandstorms? What are they, and why are they dangerous? Let’s find out.
36 Many bad weather events have strong winds, but sandstorms are different. 37 Then, the wind moves these things through the air over a long distance.
Sandstorms do not happen everywhere. They mainly happen in dry areas that have a lot of loose(疏松的) and soft sand, like deserts. 38 The length of a sandstorm mainly depends on two things: how strong the wind is and how much sand is in the area.
If a sandstorm is very strong, it can cause damage. The fast-moving sand can hit buildings, cars, and people’s skin. It can take paint off cars and hurt plants. One big sign of a sandstorm is that it becomes hard to see. 39 If you can’t see well, it becomes very unsafe to walk or drive because you can’t notice dangers on the road. 40 In some cases, sandstorms can cut off phone and Internet connections, making it harder for people to stay connected.
A.A sandstorm is a weather event.
B.Sandstorms can be predicted exactly.
C.The sand in the air covers the sunlight, making the sky dark.
D.In a sandstorm, the wind carries sand and small pieces of dirt.
E.Sand can also get inside machines, causing them to stop working.
F.A sandstorm might last only a few minutes or continue for many hours.

China is a great country. What can stand for (代表) China in foreign students’ eyes? The newspaper reporter interviewed some foreign students.
The Great Wall is one of the ancient walls in the world. I went to the Great Wall with my family last year. I enjoyed the beautiful scenery (风景) when we got to the top. So it is a 46 of China in my eyes.
——Tom, America
China is the name of a country. But the word “china” 47 means porcelain (瓷器) . I think porcelain can stand for China. Chinese people invented it, so China is called “the nation of porcelain”. Chinese porcelain is sold at home and 48 . It is so beautiful that all my family like it. I even have a Chinese porcelain vase (花瓶) in my bedroom.
——Jill, Canada
In my eyes, chopsticks can stand for China. They are quite 49 from our forks and knives. It is hard but fun for me to learn how to use chopsticks. I bought some beautiful chopsticks as gifts when I 50 to France.
——Grace, France
When I think of China, dumplings come 51 my mind. Families in China always get together and make dumplings during festivals. When my family visited China, I learned how to make dumplings from my Chinese friends. We talked and laughed. It was a wonderful 52 .

B
A skill, the ability to do something well, can be completely learned and improved through practice. It covers fun personal abilities and practical daily abilities. For example, it can be something like learning to cook, laying the table, loading and emptying the dishwasher, brushing your shoes or putting away clean clothes. These are skills that you will probably use throughout your life, when you’re a grown-up.
There are also lots of skills you can try and connect with your interests, including learning a musical instrument, playing a sport or learning arts or crafts. You can begin with thinking about what you enjoy doing or what you’d like to try.
▲ Keep practicing every day. Practice makes perfect.
Set clear mini-goals step by step.
Learn patiently and don’t give up easily.
Ask others for advice when you meet difficulties.
Learn from books or online lessons properly.
When picking up a new skill, you can look for local public organizations and classes or see if your school is doing any new after-school activities. You don’t always have to learn a new skill with others, though. If you are probably uncomfortable getting people around you, why not step into the library to get a book and find some inspirations or look online for suggestions to master something new?
As the summer holiday is coming, some students may think about learning a skill to enrich their life. What do people think of their choices? Here are some voices.
Wu Pei, a student, 15
Wang Yuhao, an AI technology worker, 33
Learning new skills can greatly improve my learning and thinking abilities. When I explore new things, I learn to plan, practice and work out problems on my own. It also encourages creativity, which is very important for my next senior school studies and future life. Besides, I need to learn how to cooperate with others in real life situation.
In the fast-changing world, learning new skills makes people actively face or follow the change. For young people, picking up skills like basic coding (编程) or digital design early can open more doors in the future. It also helps them understand how hi-tech products work and stay curious about the world around them.

In China, families celebrate a baby’s first birthday with a traditional activity called zhuazhou. It is a special activity to guess something about the child’s future life.
During the party, parents place different objects like books, toys, food, tools, or pens. Then, they gently put the babies in the middle and let them choose whatever interests them!
Each object has a meaning. For example, if a baby takes a pen, people will say he or she may be a good writer someday. If they choose a toy, it could mean they’ll always enjoy life and have lots of fun. If the baby picks a kitchen tool, like a small spoon or bowl, some may say the child will love taking care of the family.
This custom started over 1,500 years ago, during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. It became even more popular in the Tang and Song Dynasties.
A.To study the deepest parts of the ocean.
B.To collect new types of sea animals and plants.
C.To test the speed of the submersible Fendouzhe.
33.How many dives did Fendouzhe make below 6,000 meters during the journey?
A.156. B.63. C.50.
34.Which can best explain the underlined word “survive”?
A.Stay alive. B.Grow fast. C.Disappear slowly.
35.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.The new findings in the Pacific Ocean.
B.The success of the deep-sea exploration.
C.The introduction of China's research ship.

Cao Yantao, a parent, 42

【答案】A
故选A。
3.—Tom, have you heard the saying “A neighbor nearby is better than a relative far away”?
—Yes, and I can’t agree more. It tells us _________.
A.how can we be neighbors B.why we should love our families
C.that timely support is helpful D.who is the best person in our life
how can we be neighbors我们怎样才能成为邻居(疑问语序);why we should love our families为什么我们应该爱我们的家人;that timely support is helpful及时的帮助很有用;who is the best person in our life谁是我们生活中最好的人。“It tells us”后是宾语从句,应是陈述语序;谚语“远亲不如近邻”强调近邻能在需要时提供及时的帮助,故选用that timely support is helpful。
4.The instructions for assembling the furniture were so ________ that even experienced DIY enthusiasts struggled to understand them, leading many customers to ask for help.
A.explicit B.ambiguous C.concise D.accurate
5.Not only________ contribute to environmental protection, but it also helps save energy for future generations.
A.does recycling B.recycling does C.recycling can D.can recycling
【答案】A
does recycling正确倒装形式;recycling does未倒装;recycling can未倒装;can recycling虽倒装但使用情态动词can,强调能力。根据“Not only…contribute to environmental protection, but it also helps save energy for future generations.”可知,在“Not only…but also…” 故选A。
6.If you ________ more attention to improving your pronunciation when you were in your early years of learning English, you wouldn’t have such great trouble communicating with native speakers now.
A.pay B.paid C.had paid D.would pay
根据“If you … more attention to improving your pronunciation when you were in your early years of learning English,”可知,此处为虚拟语气,if 引导的从句表示与过去事实相反,谓语动词用had+过去分词。故选C。
7.—Could you tell me ________?
—No, you can’t. You must wear the school uniform.
A.when can I wear my jeans to school B.whether I can wear my jeans to school
C.what kind of clothes can I wear to school D.that I can wear my jeans to school
首先分析句子结构,“Could you tell me...” A“when can I wear my jeans to school”和选项C“what kind of clothes can I wear to school”都是疑问句语序,不符合宾语从句的要求,所以排除;选项D“that I can wear my jeans to school”中“that”引导宾语从句时,通常用于陈述一个事实,而这里句子表达的是询问是否可以穿牛仔裤上学,用“that”不合适,所以排除;选项B“whether I can wear my jeans to school”中“whether”表示“是否”,引导宾语从句,且从句是陈述句语序,符合语境和语法要求。故选B。
8.We mustn’t _________ our phones to class. That’s ________ rule.
A.carry; other B.bring; other C.take; other D.bring; another

9.This morning I saw a man ________ on the street on my way ________.
A.lives; there B.lived; to school C.lying; to school D.to lie; home
lives动词三单形式;there那里;lived动词过去分词;to school到学校;lying动词现在分词;to lie动词不定式;home家。see sb. doing sth. lie的现在分词是lying,第一个空选lying;“on one’s way to+地点”,表示“在某人去……的路上”;如果地点是home、there、here等副词,则省略to,直接用“on one’s way home/there/here;school是名词,所以用on my way to school;若选home,应为on my way home。故选C。
10.Remember this, children, ________ careful you are, ________ mistakes you’ll make.
A.more; fewer B.the more; the fewer C.the less; fewer D.the more; the less

结构,排除A选项;mistakes是可数名词复数,不能用less修饰,排除D;根据“ careful you are...mistakes you’ll make.”

31.B 32.A 33.C 34.A 35.B
根据第一段中“On May 10, China’s research ship Tansuo-1 returned to Guangzhou after a 156-day journey. It carried…The team included 83 young scientists…”
32.根据第一段中“This trip was part of the Global Hadal Exploration Program, a project to research the deepest ocean places.”
33.根据第二段中“During the journey, Fendouzhe made 63 dives. Fifty of these were below 6,000 meters.”
34.据第二段中“The team also discovered at least three new types of snailfish…which can survive under very high pressure.”

Cao Yantao, a parent, 42
Cheng Bing, a psychologist, 51
I think learning new skills is good for children’s all-round development. It not only lets them discover their interests but also helps them become more independent. When they learn to cook or fix small things by themselves, they feel proud and learn to take responsibility. These skills will benefit them for a lifetime.
The mental health benefits of learning a new skill for children are huge. A number of different studies show that learning new skills can boost confidence, build independence, reduce stress and lead to positive behavior. When learning new things, people can feel happy and less worried. It is like doing exercise for our brain.
Never fear challenges while learning. Every new skill you learn will bring out the best in you and equip you with more possibilities and opportunities.

People in ancient times saw zhuazhou as an important life ceremony. Today, many Chinese families still keep this custom alive. It’s a light-hearted and joyful (愉快的) way to welcome the child into a new stage of life.
