Most people had never heard of a pet detective (侦探) before watching the old movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. However, real-life pet detectives are different from the noisy and funny detective Ventura in the movie. They are trained detectives who take their jobs very seriously.
Liu Wei, the 37-year-old man from Shanghai, is quite famous in this new business. He entered the business early. In 2012, he read an article about pet detectives by chance. As a lover of cats and dogs and a fan of detective fiction (小说), he decided to give it a try. But his decision wasn’t understood by his family because it was a really new industry. And they didn’t believe someone would want to spend money finding an animal. However, Liu didn’t give up.
Now Liu has a 12-person team working with him. Before heading out, he asks the pet owners many questions about their lost pets, like name, age, looks, hobbies, health history and others. This is very important. Then Liu waits in the long grass secretly, checks underground pipelines (管道) carefully and searches in the parking lots. To find a missing pet, it’s very common for him to walk tens of thousands of steps a day.
So far, Liu has helped reunite (使团聚) more than 1,000 lost cats, dogs and birds with their worried, sad owners. “It’s a great sense of achievement when I finally find a missing pet after days of hard work,” he said.
The pet detective business has grown in China in recent years as more people keep pets at home. Getting a pet detective is not cheap. It can cost a few thousand to more than 10,000 yuan, depending on the area, but it’s worth it for pet owners. “They are not animals. They are members of the family,” Liu said.

A. By sharing a story.

A. How Liu Wei sets up his team.
B. What Liu Wei’s daily work is like.
C. Why Liu Wei becomes a pet detective.
27. What is the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the pet detective business in China?

In recent years, many books generated (生成) by artificial intelligence (人工智能) have appeared online. Some people worry that readers cannot tell whether a book is written by a human or a machine. To solve this problem, a group of writers in the UK has taken action.
On March 10, 2026, the Society of Writers introduced a new logo (徽标) at the London Book Fair. The logo is called “Human Written”. Writers can download it and put it on the covers of their books. This logo tells readers that the book was created by a human, not by artificial intelligence.
Tracy Chevalier, a famous story writer, supports this idea. She said in a BBC interview, “What we’re trying to do is to give readers information. The human author logo will be placed on books, so that readers can make that decision themselves. We’re trying to aim for transparency.”
Chevalier also talked about how she uses AI in her work. She writes historical fiction and does a lot of research. “I do use it for research,” she said. “I look at it as a research helper. For a very specific question, I’ll ask it to find something. But I always check where the information comes from because sometimes what it gives is not true.”
However, she made it clear that she never uses AI to create her stories or write her words. “There’s something about the way humans write that I have a hard time believing AI could ever copy. You can feel it when you read something written by a real person,” she added.
It is said that about 10 out of every 100 self-published books on a big online shop are written by computers. These books do not have to say they are made by computers. The new mark gives human writers a way to show their work and help readers choose.
28. Why does Tracy Chevalier use AI?
A. To help with historical research.
B. To write the words of her stories.
C. To create plots (情节) for her novels.
29. What does the underlined word “transparency” mean in Paragraph 3?
30. What can we learn from Tracy Chevalier’s words in Paragraph 5?
A. AI can write better stories than humans.
B. Human writing has something special that AI cannot copy.
C. Readers cannot feel the difference between human and AI writing.
31. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Writers should stop using AI for any kind of work.
B. The big online shop has too many self-published books.
C. A new mark helps readers know which books are written by humans.
A 29. C 30. B 31. C
第四段“She writes historical fiction and does a lot of research.‘I do use it for research...I look at it as a research helper...’”
第三段“‘What we’re trying to do is to give readers information. The human author logo will be placed on books, so that readers can make that decision themselves...’”
第五段“‘There’s something about the way humans write that I have a hard time believing AI could ever copy...’”

This is about to be a very personal thing, but feel free to keep reading.
Summer is almost here now, so I feel like it’s time to pay attention to my skin (皮肤) condition. The only people who know about it besides me are my sister Kaitlyn and my mom. After some research, my sister has found that I have HS
The thing I have fought with for seven years finally has a name. I didn’t really think much about it at first. I’ve always had allergic reactions (过敏反应) to different things. The serious symptoms (症状) began when I was 18 years old. It truly scared me and I thought there was something seriously wrong with me, and that I must be dirty. For years, I met with different doctors trying to get answers. But no one could tell me what was wrong with me, and my skin was still the same no matter what I tried. I was tired of it and almost gave up.
When Kaitlyn told me that she had found out what it was, it was almost like a light turned on and it mattered a lot to me. I was the happiest girl on the planet at that moment.
If I could sit my old self down, I would tell her:
YOU ARE NOT DIRTY! I know you’re sad right now and it seems like nothing works. But you must know, it’s not your fault (过错) and nothing is wrong with you. Believe me, one day you will find your answers and just keep loving yourself as well as your skin.
